00:11 Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh, my!
00:14 Are you afraid of being eaten by a lion?
00:16 In most cases you don't need to worry.
00:18 They like eating other things.
00:20 But every now and then in history,
00:22 lions do get a taste for people.
00:25 There's one case back in 1899, when a couple of lions called
00:29 the man-eating lions of Tsavo
00:31 began to terrorize a camp of workers
00:33 that were trying to build a bridge for England.
00:36 As the death toll from the lions continued to rise,
00:39 construction was brought to a virtual standstill.
00:42 Finally, the British sent in
00:44 Lieutenant Colonel J. H. Patterson,
00:46 he succeeded in tracking down
00:47 and killing the two man-eating lions,
00:49 who by now had devoured 135 men.
00:54 The lions are now on display in the Field Museum in Chicago.
00:57 But even more deadly, a tigress in India
01:01 was before being shot was reported to have kill
01:03 and eaten 436 people between 1906 and 1907.
01:10 But there is one lion that has eaten
01:13 even more people than all the others put together.
01:15 It's the devil.
01:17 The Bible says, "The devil goes around
01:18 as a roaring lion seeking whom he might devour."
01:22 But I've got good news, in the Word of God,
01:24 we find the tools to defeat this deadly lion.
01:27 So join me now, let's get on board,
01:29 we're gonna take an amazing adventure.
01:49 Hello, friends.
01:51 Welcome again to an Amazing Adventure,
01:53 A Journey for Life with Jesus.
01:55 I'd like to welcome, boys and girls,
01:57 right here in Michigan
01:59 and also those who are joining us
02:00 across the country,
02:02 part of our extended discovery team.
02:05 And over the next few programs together,
02:06 we're gonna be looking at some very important
02:08 and fascinating truths in the Bible.
02:11 Well, before we get to our message this evening,
02:15 I'd like to invite Pastor Doug Batchelor
02:17 who will be helping guiding us in our discovery.
02:20 So, Pastor Doug, why don't you come out?
02:25 Hello, boys and girls. Welcome to the HMS Adventure.
02:31 This is A Journey for Life with Jesus,
02:33 and we're gonna be talking about things that are gonna
02:35 really help you in your walk with Christ,
02:38 and help you know how to get to heaven.
02:40 We're so thankful that you're part of this program.
02:42 Well, we're gonna begin by singing our theme song,
02:44 "Life is an Adventure."
02:46 I'd like to invite our song leaders to come forward,
02:47 and Pastor Doug is gonna grab his guitar,
02:50 and why don't we all stand as we sing together
02:52 our theme song Life is an Adventure.
03:00 Life is an adventure following the King
03:05 Every day with Jesus makes us want to sing
03:10 Walking in the spirit he will lead the way
03:15 With his words who guide us scrolling deep inside us
03:20 Nothing can divide us following the King
03:27 Life is an adventure following the King
03:33 Every day with Jesus makes us want to sing
03:38 Conquering with kindness everywhere we go
03:44 Voices we are raising Jesus we are praising
03:49 Life is so amazing following the King
03:55 Life is so amazing
03:59 Following the King
04:05 Amen. And thank you, Pastor Ross.
04:08 Well, friends, I want to welcome you
04:09 to this special Amazing Adventure program.
04:12 And before each program
04:13 we take some questions from kids
04:16 that are literally around the world.
04:18 All right, well,
04:19 we're ready for our first video question that's come in.
04:21 So we will take a look at that now.
04:24 Hi, Pastor Doug, I'm Audrey and I live in Manikonda, India.
04:29 And my Bible question is,
04:31 how many miracles did Jesus perform in His life?
04:34 All right, so the question is,
04:36 how many miracles did Jesus perform in His life?
04:40 Well, Jesus performed about 37 miracles in His life.
04:44 And some of these miracles were miracles of healing,
04:47 or they were miracles of multiplying the bread,
04:50 or walking on the water, but someone added up,
04:52 now sometimes you'll find the same miracle
04:54 in several gospels, so that would count for one.
04:56 He probably multiplied the bread two times,
04:59 and so all together about 37 miracles.
05:02 Now it's interesting not only did Jesus perform miracles
05:04 when He was on the earth, but as you know,
05:06 Jesus performs miracles even today
05:09 in the hearts and the lives of people.
05:12 So Christ's miracle, they're ongoing and, of course,
05:14 before Jesus came,
05:16 He was still performing miracles.
05:17 All right, I think we're ready for our next video question.
05:21 Hi, I'm Asel.
05:23 I'm 11 years old from the Philippines.
05:26 My question is, how can I focus
05:28 when I am in the middle of worship?
05:32 All right, how do we focus
05:33 when we're studying or reading the Bible?
05:36 How many of you sometimes you're praying,
05:38 and you're talking to God, but your mind begins to wander,
05:42 you think, "Oh, I'm supposed to be praying.
05:44 And I'm thinking about my homework
05:45 or I'm thinking about
05:47 what my brother or sister said."
05:48 Or you thinking some crazy goofy thing
05:51 and you're thinking, "Oh, Lord, I'm sorry.
05:53 I'm supposed to be praying and my mind is wandering."
05:55 You ever have that problem?
05:58 You're praying for the food.
06:01 And you can't wait for the prayer to be over
06:02 so you can eat.
06:05 I remember when our children were little,
06:07 one of them, whenever we say, amen after the food prayer,
06:10 he'd say, "Eat now."
06:12 He couldn't wait for the prayer to be over,
06:14 so we could eat.
06:15 And that's not really prayer.
06:17 Prayer's when you're giving God your mind and your thoughts.
06:20 It's normal for your mind to wander,
06:24 but you bring it back.
06:26 You know, when you're real little as a child.
06:29 Sometimes it's hard to control what you're thinking or saying.
06:32 And one of the signs that you're growing up
06:34 is you gain more and more control
06:37 over your thoughts and your actions.
06:39 It's a sign of maturity.
06:40 You don't say everything you think,
06:42 you think about what you're gonna say,
06:44 what you're gonna do.
06:45 And when you're praying, it takes practice,
06:48 just like everything in life.
06:50 Your mind wanders, bring it back.
06:51 If it wanders, bring it back and you'll get good at it.
06:54 And if you ever take a dog for a walk
06:56 and he keeps wanting to run off,
06:57 and he pulls you on the leash
06:58 and he pulls on the leash.
07:00 Yeah, well, eventually the dog will learn
07:04 if you teach it to heal,
07:05 to stay with the master when you're walking.
07:08 You can train your mind to stay with your master
07:11 when you're praying, when you're reading His Word.
07:14 Don't become discouraged if, you know,
07:16 your mind begins to wander a little bit.
07:18 It happens to everybody. Just bring it back.
07:21 All right, be ready for our next video question.
07:24 Hi, my name is Philip Simmons IV.
07:26 I live in Crofton, Maryland, and my...
07:28 And I am 11 years old.
07:30 My Bible question is, how can you tell
07:32 if God or the devil is talking to you?
07:34 All right.
07:36 So I think his question is to do with
07:37 those thoughts or impressions that we get
07:39 and sometimes we wonder,
07:40 "Is this God telling me something
07:42 or is this coming from a bad angel?"
07:44 So how do you know the difference?
07:47 Well, first of all, if you are in doubt,
07:52 The Bible says if you commit your way to the Lord,
07:55 He will direct your paths, and so ask God for wisdom.
07:59 The other thing is, look at what is happening
08:02 or what the impressions are
08:03 and make sure that it fits with the Word of God.
08:06 Now I can think of somebody in the Bible,
08:08 he heard a voice speak to him.
08:10 And it must have been real difficult for him to know.
08:14 One time God said to Abraham, "Take your son, your only son,
08:19 Isaac, who you love,
08:20 bring him to the mountains of Moriah
08:22 and offer him there as a burnt offering."
08:25 How did he know that was God?
08:27 You think, well, maybe
08:29 that would be the devil telling you to do that.
08:31 You know how he knows.
08:33 Because he had spent so much time listening to God,
08:36 he knew God's voice.
08:39 You know, whenever Mrs.Batchelor calls me,
08:42 she doesn't need to say very much
08:44 when she gets on the phone.
08:46 And she just says, "Hi." I know her voice so well.
08:49 That's all she needs to say is, "Hi."
08:52 And I know it's her.
08:54 And when you spend a lot of time with people,
08:56 you know their voice.
08:58 And so as you walk with the Lord
09:00 and the Bible tells us in 1 John,
09:02 we will know when it is His spirit.
09:05 The spirit teaches us,
09:06 but that comes from walking in the spirit
09:08 and from studying the Word.
09:10 All right, our last video question for this morning.
09:13 My name is Matt, I am from Michigan.
09:16 My question is,
09:18 why do we go to church if God is everywhere?
09:21 Well, that's a good question.
09:23 If God is everywhere,
09:24 is it important for us to go to a specific place?
09:27 Do we need to go to church?
09:29 Well, that's a good question because God is everywhere.
09:32 Is God here now? Yes.
09:34 For us this is a special day.
09:35 And so we come together into church,
09:37 not just for a program, but this is a day of worship.
09:40 If God is everywhere,
09:43 but sometimes when we're out doing our work
09:45 and doing our business, we forget about God.
09:47 And so when we set aside those things,
09:49 and we come in a special way to a special place
09:52 at a special time,
09:54 to give God our special focus, that's different.
09:58 And so, yes, God is everywhere
10:00 and we should worship Him all the time
10:02 and talk to Him all the time.
10:03 But we have work to do, we have school,
10:05 we have homework, we have chores.
10:07 And when we set aside a special time and say,
10:10 "No work, no chores, I'm gonna come
10:12 and I'm gonna talk to you.
10:14 "And, you know, we don't...
10:15 Not only come to church, because of God,
10:18 we come to church to be with God's family,
10:21 that you're not with all the time,
10:23 that aren't everywhere.
10:24 And so it's a time for us to fellowship with others
10:27 when we come to church, as well as worship God.
10:29 All right.
10:30 Well, that is it for our Bible questions today.
10:33 All right, Pastor Doug, our study today is entitled
10:36 "Slaying the Dragon."
10:38 Thank you very much.
10:40 You know, the Bible is a book
10:43 that talks about a battle between good and evil.
10:47 And we're going to be talking about those
10:49 two great forces of good and evil in this study,
10:52 and they're everywhere in the world.
10:55 Matter of fact, even here,
10:57 you got God and you got the devil.
10:59 God is speaking to our hearts.
11:01 The devil is trying to distract all the time.
11:03 He doesn't want us to hear the voice of God.
11:06 In the Bible, God is invisible.
11:09 He's a spirit, but the devil is sometimes portrayed
11:13 as a serpent, a dragon.
11:16 He's called the devil. He's called Satan.
11:19 He's called the deceiver.
11:21 Now where did he get the idea?
11:23 Where does the idea come from
11:24 that the devil is like a serpent?
11:26 You can see on the screen.
11:27 It talks in Isaiah 14:29, it says,
11:31 "And its offspring will be a fiery flying serpent."
11:36 We've had a lot of movies
11:37 come out in the last few years about dragons
11:39 and making friends with dragons,
11:41 and how to train a dragon,
11:42 and everybody's preoccupied with dragons,
11:45 but, you know, dragons go way back.
11:48 And there are a number of reptiles
11:51 that actually do glide, not fly.
11:55 There's a mammal that flies, it's called a bat.
11:57 Here's a lizard
11:59 and it looks like that lizard's got wings,
12:00 but it actually, it jumps from tree to tree,
12:02 it spreads out its rib cage and it makes wings
12:06 and it glides.
12:08 There's a snake in Indonesia that can jump from one tree
12:12 and glide to another tree.
12:13 It spreads out its rib cage,
12:15 and it almost looks like it's swimming through the air.
12:18 It floats from tree to tree, it'll crawl up another tree
12:21 and it'll jump in, it'll glide down to another tree.
12:24 And it's amazing
12:25 how some of these creatures God has made them to fly.
12:28 There's even squirrels that fly or they glide.
12:31 They don't flap.
12:33 But you know, when we look at the fossil record
12:35 in the world around us, there's a lot of evidence
12:38 for some of these giant reptiles
12:41 that used to be able to fly.
12:43 They've got big wings, one of them,
12:45 they got some petrosaurus,
12:46 you've heard of the pterodactyls
12:48 and one of these extinct creatures
12:51 had a wingspan like a small plane
12:54 weighed hundreds of pounds.
12:56 They were huge and in some of their skeletons
12:59 and the bones that they found,
13:01 they've got big fins on their head.
13:02 And some scientists and paleontologists thought,
13:05 "Was that like the rudder on a plane
13:06 to help them turn through the air."
13:08 And some of them, they have these big heads,
13:10 and they had empty chambers in their heads
13:12 and they thought, "What were those for?"
13:14 With those empty chambers
13:15 so that they could make a loud roar or a honk?
13:19 Or they wondered maybe the empty chambers were there
13:22 because they would mix chemicals.
13:24 How many of you have heard of a bombardier beetle?
13:26 These beetles that can send out scorching hot fluid to burn.
13:31 They thought, maybe they call them fiery dragons
13:33 because they could blow out this hot fluid.
13:35 We don't know.
13:37 It's a lot of theories out there.
13:38 But all around the world,
13:40 all of the ancient civilizations
13:42 had stories about dragons and often flying dragons
13:46 and some dragons that could breathe fire.
13:48 And it's just interesting.
13:49 There are so many legends,
13:51 and they wonder if they're based upon
13:52 some of these extinct dinosaurs that once lived.
13:56 Well, you know, in the Bible,
13:58 it talks about a serpent that is our enemy.
14:01 It says, "In that day the Lord with his sore and his great
14:05 and strong sword will punish the crooked serpent."
14:08 This is Isaiah 27:1,
14:11 "And he will slay the dragon, the serpent,
14:13 the dragon in the sea."
14:15 So the Bible talks about this serpent
14:17 right there in the Garden of Eden
14:19 the first time the devil manifested himself,
14:21 he was in the form of a serpent,
14:23 which is sometimes called the dragon.
14:25 A lot of these cold blooded reptiles are that way.
14:27 So we're gonna learn about the enemy.
14:29 Now I don't want to spend our time
14:31 talking about the enemy just for the sake of that,
14:34 but Jesus tells us about the devil
14:37 so we can be on our guard,
14:39 and we will not be deceived.
14:41 So we're gonna learn what the Bible says about this,
14:43 and how to slay the dragon.
14:46 First of all, who is the dragon and where did he come from?
14:51 You can read the answer in Luke 10:18.
14:55 Jesus said, "I saw Satan like lightning fall from" where?
15:00 Heaven. "From Heaven."
15:01 Why would there be a devil in heaven?
15:06 These are the words of Jesus.
15:07 Jesus says, "I was there when he was cast out."
15:10 You can read in Revelation 12:9.
15:13 "So the great dragon was cast out,
15:16 that serpent of old, called the devil and Satan,
15:20 who deceives the whole world."
15:21 How much of the world is being deceived by the devil?
15:25 Just about everybody.
15:26 In fact, Jesus called the devil,
15:30 the prince of this world.
15:33 The Apostle Paul calls him, the prince of this world,
15:37 because most people in the world
15:38 are not listening to God and Jesus in His spirit.
15:41 They're listening to the enemy.
15:43 And it says that he was cast out of heaven,
15:46 the one who deceives him.
15:47 "He was cast to the earth..."
15:49 Now was the devil cast out by himself?
15:52 No, it says, "And His angels were cast out with him."
15:56 There were a lot of angels that left heaven with Lucifer
16:01 when he was cast out.
16:03 Question number two, who made the devil?
16:08 And was he really a dragon?
16:10 Did God make a dragon,
16:11 a fire breathing dragon to bother us all?
16:14 No, he wasn't a dragon.
16:15 It says, "You were created the anointed cherub
16:19 who covers, for I established you."
16:22 You know, the Bible tells us,
16:23 you know, what a covering cherub is?
16:25 By the throne of God in heaven,
16:27 it speaks of there being two great angels.
16:30 You can read about this in the Book of Isaiah.
16:33 Isaiah said, I saw the Lord sitting on His throne
16:35 and the seraphim on the right and the left,
16:37 each had six wings and they say,
16:39 holy, holy, these are the greatest,
16:41 the highest of the angels of God.
16:43 And there was an angel
16:44 that held one of these great positions in heaven.
16:48 And he was an angel when God made him.
16:52 Where did sin start with? 1 John 3:8.
16:56 It says, "The devil sins from the beginning."
17:00 But God did not make a devil. Everything God makes is good.
17:05 But he turned into a devil.
17:06 You can read it again in Revelation 12:9,
17:09 "That old serpent, called the devil, and Satan."
17:13 The word Satan means the enemy, the adversary.
17:17 And he's the one that starts all the problems in the world.
17:22 People say, if God is good...
17:24 If God is good, why is there so much evil?
17:28 If God is good,
17:30 why is there pain and suffering?
17:32 Do you sometimes know someone who was born sick?
17:35 What did they do wrong?
17:37 They were born sick, they didn't deserve it.
17:40 If God is powerful,
17:42 why doesn't God destroy the devil?
17:44 Is God more powerful than the devil?
17:47 Yes.
17:49 Why doesn't He just destroy him?
17:50 Why is there suffering in the world?
17:52 If God is love, if God is good, if God is powerful,
17:55 why does He allow the devil to cause so many problems?
17:59 This lesson today is gonna help explain those things.
18:03 Number two,
18:04 what was Satan's name before he sinned?
18:07 And where was he living at the time?
18:09 Well, his name wasn't Satan back then.
18:11 God did not make a creature called Satan.
18:13 This is Isaiah 14:12-14.
18:16 "How you are fallen from heaven.
18:18 O..." What was his name?
18:21 "Lucifer, son of the morning.
18:24 For you said in your heart,
18:26 I will exalt my throne above the stars of God,
18:29 I will be like the Most High."
18:31 Lucifer wanted God's position.
18:34 So, one of the first and the most powerful
18:38 of all of God's creatures was this leader of His angels.
18:43 See, God has an army, they're called angels.
18:45 They're ministering spirits. How many angels are there?
18:50 Well, let's think about it.
18:51 You know, the Bible seems to say
18:53 that there's a guardian angel for each one of you.
18:55 So if we've got 250 young people in here,
18:59 there's 250 angels, there's good angels.
19:03 The Bible says God has angels recording
19:05 every idle word that you speak.
19:07 God says He records.
19:09 You know, you got cameras everywhere, you're going out,
19:11 they're recording everything.
19:12 God's been recording for a long time.
19:14 So you might have guardian angels,
19:15 you might have recording angels.
19:18 And there are how many people in the world?
19:21 7.8 billion so far.
19:25 So that's at least 7.8 billion good angels.
19:30 And God's got other worlds that are unfallen.
19:32 There are billions and billions of angels
19:34 and God knows every one of them by name.
19:37 The Bible says, God knows every star by name,
19:40 the God says...
19:41 God knows, He's numbered the hairs of your head.
19:44 God numbered the hairs of my head,
19:45 but that's not so important because I did too.
19:47 Not that many.
19:49 And so there are millions and billions of angels.
19:52 The highest of the angels was a beautiful angel.
19:55 You would have loved him. He was good.
19:59 Every good and perfect gift comes from God.
20:01 God made all of His creatures good.
20:04 And his name was Lucifer.
20:06 Now, it was a good name. It means light-bearer.
20:09 But now it's not a good name.
20:11 You might name your dog Lucifer.
20:12 It's probably not a good dog if you name him Lucifer.
20:15 I don't know too many people.
20:17 You know, actually, I take that back.
20:19 I was doing a meeting like this,
20:21 I was in a laundromat washing my clothes.
20:23 And while I was waiting for my clothes
20:24 to dry watching them, I saw there was a boy,
20:27 he was playing with a little matchbox car
20:29 on the linoleum, on the floor.
20:31 I said, "Hi, how you doing?" "Fine."
20:34 "What's your name?"
20:36 Without even looking up he said, "Lucifer."
20:39 Little boy told me his name was Lucifer.
20:42 I said, "I guess your folks don't go to church, huh?"
20:45 No, I didn't say that.
20:46 That's what I was thinking though.
20:48 But it was a good name at one point,
20:51 but Lucifer went bad and it became associated with evil.
20:54 Now, if I was to ask you...
20:57 All right, just close your eyes for a moment.
20:59 Everybody, you can close your eyes, trust me.
21:00 Just close your eyes, all right.
21:02 Picture what the devil looks like.
21:05 When you close your eyes and you think of the devil,
21:07 now, I'm not wanting you to, you know, pray to the devil,
21:09 but if you were to picture what he looks like,
21:11 what did you see?
21:13 First of all, what color is he? Red.
21:15 Red how many said red?
21:17 Does he have a beard? No.
21:21 No, my devil, I always pictured had a beard.
21:24 What's on top of his head? Horns.
21:27 You see, he got horns.
21:28 What's he holding in his hand? Pitchfork.
21:31 Pitchfork, is that because that the devil is a farmer
21:34 and he's using it for hay.
21:37 No, they say that the devil...
21:40 The devil, he's in charge of hell,
21:43 some people think he is not, and they use the pitchfork
21:45 to make sure people get cooked evenly in hell,
21:48 but that's not true.
21:50 So many people when they think about the devil,
21:51 you know what they see?
21:55 They think the devil looks like a Halloween costume
21:59 where you got this guy.
22:00 He's wearing, he's got a black cape
22:02 and he's got bat wings and he's got a goatee.
22:06 And he's got horns and he's got the pitchfork
22:08 and he's got goat feet, and they got all these ugly,
22:11 terrible, strange looking grotesque
22:14 pictures of the devil.
22:16 But what does the Bible say Lucifer was really like?
22:20 He was a beautiful angel. All right, so question three.
22:25 How did Lucifer change?
22:27 It says in Ezekiel 28:15,
22:31 "You were perfect in your ways
22:33 from the day that you were created,
22:35 until iniquity was found in you."
22:37 Did God make an ugly devil
22:38 or did He make a beautiful devil?
22:41 He was a perfect, beautiful devil.
22:44 But he began to want God's position,
22:47 something changed in his heart.
22:48 Now, listen to what happened?
22:50 Lucifer was so beautiful, so powerful.
22:54 Bible says, he was covered and adorned
22:56 with the most majestic looking garments,
22:59 powerful, intelligent, you look at him,
23:02 the light that streamed out of him.
23:03 He was the most glorious of God's creatures.
23:06 But then he saw all the other angels
23:07 worshiping God, the Father and Jesus, the Son.
23:10 And he started thinking,
23:12 "How come they're not worshiping me?"
23:14 And then he saw God, the Father,
23:15 the Son and the Spirit creating things.
23:17 He thought, how come I can't make life?
23:21 And he started thinking, I should be God,
23:23 I should have more power.
23:26 And he'd look at himself in the mirror
23:28 and he'd think, "I'm so beautiful,
23:29 people should worship me."
23:32 And Lucifer,
23:34 he began to encourage selfishness in his heart.
23:37 So he wanted the position of God.
23:41 You know, some people are beautiful,
23:44 they're handsome.
23:46 But if they think they're handsome,
23:47 and they think about it, it kind of makes them proud.
23:50 It's okay to be attractive.
23:53 But you need to be humble, the Bible says.
23:55 But Lucifer, he became proud
23:57 and he could make beautiful music.
23:58 Lucifer understands music and he could probably sing
24:01 five part harmony all by himself.
24:03 He was a leader of the heavenly choir.
24:05 And the devil still knows how to use music today.
24:08 The Bible tells us in Ezekiel 28,
24:10 "You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor."
24:15 His beauty became corrupted.
24:18 Isaiah 14:13, "You have said in your heart:
24:21 'I will exalt my throne above the stars of God,
24:25 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
24:28 I will be like the Most High.'
24:32 " Lucifer said, "I want to be God."
24:34 Now was Lucifer, the creator, or a creation?
24:40 He was a creation,
24:41 but he wanted to be the Creator.
24:43 And how can you destroy your Creator?
24:45 It's kind of crazy to think about it.
24:47 So here's the big question.
24:49 If God is good, did God make a devil?
24:53 No.
24:54 God made a beautiful angel, but some of you are thinking,
24:58 "Did God know that
25:00 Lucifer was going to become selfish and proud?"
25:02 Yes.
25:04 Why did God still make him if He knew?
25:08 Did God make a mistake?
25:10 No.
25:11 God doesn't make mistakes.
25:13 Why did God make Lucifer
25:14 if He knew that Lucifer would become selfish and proud?
25:16 Was there a defect at the factory
25:19 when Lucifer came off the assembly line?
25:22 All right.
25:23 I want to illustrate this to somebody.
25:26 I need a volunteer.

27:00 Young man, someone who hasn't yet...
27:01 You haven't been up already. Have you been up yet?
27:03 All right, come on up now.
27:05 No, this gentleman right here.
27:07 Okay, you can both come up.
27:08 I'll tell you what, why don't you both come up here.
27:10 What's your name?
27:12 You forget your name, huh?
27:14 Arlie. Arlie?
27:16 And your name? Levi.
27:17 Levi. That's a good name.
27:19 All right, look in the treasure chest
27:20 and see if you can find a dog.
27:25 You can do that together.
27:26 All right, Levi, look on the bottom of the dog.
27:28 Look on the bottom of dog. Do you see an off/on switch?
27:31 Turn them, turn them on.
27:36 Okay, this is Gizmo.
27:41 Gizmo is called an artificial intelligence dog.
27:46 Gizmo, sit.
27:51 Gizmo, rollover.
28:02 Gizmo, fetch.
28:05 You don't know what that means, do you?
28:12 All right, Gizmo, get up.
28:16 Gizmo, you're free.
28:21 Do you want to go anywhere?
28:27 Gizmo, can you do anything else?
28:32 Gizmo, go to sleep.
28:41 Go to sleep.
28:48 That's not what I said.
28:52 Okay.
28:55 So, we're gonna...
28:56 You're not cooperating, I'm turning you off.
28:59 Now, this looks like a fun dog, huh?
29:03 No. Yeah.
29:07 This would be a fun dog for about a half an hour.
29:12 But you would get tired of it
29:13 because he does the same four or five tricks.
29:17 But what's more exciting, this or what about a real dog?
29:25 All right, so I wonder where we're gonna find
29:27 a real puppy dog.
29:29 Do we got a real...
29:30 Mrs. Batchelor gonna bring out...
29:32 Oh, look, someone's coming out of the captain's lodge.
29:37 So...
29:43 So here we've got Gizmo, and here we've got...
29:46 Oreo. Oreo.
29:48 This is a little girl puppy,
29:50 and they're both black and white.
29:53 And which one would be more fun?
29:55 Oreo.
29:59 Which one is gonna cause more...
30:02 Which one is gonna cause more problems?
30:04 Oreo.
30:06 Which one's gonna need more care?
30:07 Oreo.
30:09 Why would you want Oreo rather than Gizmo?
30:13 Because he's a real dog.
30:17 I wonder what Oreo will do here.
30:20 Let's put Oreo down, who knows?
30:26 Gizmo, go to sleep.
30:28 Gizmo, dance.
30:34 We better hang on to Oreo,
30:35 we don't know what could happen.
30:37 Thank you.
30:39 Thank you very much, guys.
30:41 Now, let me tell you why I showed you this.
30:46 Let me tell you why I showed you this,
30:48 is, what's the difference between
30:50 a robot puppy and a real puppy?
30:55 The robot...
30:57 Are you robots or are you free?
30:59 Free!
31:01 You make your own intelligent decisions with your wills.
31:04 You know, even a dog has some freedom
31:07 to make decisions.
31:08 Dogs can even have personality, in one puppy litter,
31:12 all of them can be different and act differently.
31:15 And you know that dog, if he chooses to love you,
31:18 it's gonna be real.
31:19 He has real affection for you.
31:20 He'll want to come to you. He want to be with you.
31:22 He'll want to snuggle, he want to lick you.
31:24 It's real.
31:26 God wants to make His creatures with real love.
31:28 Now, if God... Does God make robots?
31:30 No. No.
31:33 God does not make robots.
31:35 God makes His creatures real and He gives them freedom.
31:39 God could have made Lucifer as a robot.
31:43 But would he have love?
31:46 Can a robot love? No.
31:50 Now when your parents decided to have you?
31:53 Did your parents get a written guarantee from the doctor
31:56 that you would always be good, and obedient, and loving?
32:02 Have you sometimes been disobedient and difficult?
32:08 Why did your parents still have you?
32:12 Because they want to love you and they want you to love them.
32:16 To have love, you must choose, you must be free.
32:20 Are you getting the idea here?
32:22 God makes all of His creatures free
32:24 and He knew that one day some of them
32:26 would choose not to love Him.
32:27 So He made Lucifer even though
32:29 He knew Lucifer was not gonna love Him.
32:31 God chose us freedom, but we get to choose.
32:33 Right, next question.
32:35 Let's move back to our lesson now.
32:36 How many angels joined Lucifer in his rebellion against God?
32:39 So what happened is,
32:41 in heaven, Lucifer went around, he told all the angels,
32:44 "You know, God, He makes all these rules.
32:46 We don't need His laws and rules.
32:48 We're smart enough to take care of ourselves."
32:51 And so, the devil began to get one third of the angels,
32:55 he wanted all of them.
32:57 One third of the angels followed Satan
32:59 in his rebellion.
33:00 You can read in Revelation 12:3, 4.
33:03 "Another sign appeared in heaven,
33:05 a great red dragon and his tail drew
33:08 a third of the stars of heaven."
33:10 Those angels in Revelation are often called stars,
33:13 a third of His angels.
33:15 The Bible tells us that Satan and his angels were cast out.
33:20 And they ended up breaking this,
33:22 the devil and his angels all fighting against God,
33:25 and protesting against God turned into rebellion.
33:29 So the next question is,
33:31 what was the result of Lucifer's rebellion?
33:34 Finally, it broke out into an all out war, where?
33:39 In heaven.
33:40 It's hard to imagine a war in heaven.
33:42 What kind of instruments
33:43 and what kind of weapons would they use?
33:45 There was war in heaven,
33:47 and Michael and his angels fought against the dragon
33:50 and the dragon fought and his angels.
33:54 The Bible says, the devil was cast out
33:56 and drew one third of those angels to earth with him.
33:59 So how did Satan trick humans to join his rebellion?
34:05 See what happened was
34:06 once the devil was cast out of heaven,
34:09 he had no home base.
34:11 The devil went roaming through the universe
34:12 looking for other creatures of God to follow him.
34:16 See, I think God not only has life on this planet,
34:19 the universe is so infinite.
34:20 God probably has other unfallen,
34:23 perfect, intelligent creatures in other worlds,
34:26 they may have lasted for millions of years.
34:28 We can't see them
34:29 because we got a sickness called sin on this planet.
34:31 So we're quarantined.
34:33 Just like when you're sick,
34:35 your parents don't want you getting around someone else
34:37 so they catch your cold.
34:38 Our whole planet's got a really bad disease.
34:41 So we can't communicate with the other unfallen worlds
34:43 but the devil was given an opportunity.
34:45 Just like God gave the devil freedom
34:47 to talk to the other angels.
34:49 He said, "If they want to follow you,
34:51 they can follow you.
34:52 I will not force you to follow Me."
34:53 See, God will not force you to follow Him.
34:56 You must choose to follow Him.
34:58 He gives you freedom.
35:00 So the devil went to these other worlds,
35:01 and the devil...
35:03 God said to the devil,
35:04 "You can't hassle them everywhere.
35:05 But I'll pick one spot on the planet
35:07 where you could talk to them."
35:09 God told Adam and Eve now,
35:11 I've given you all these trees to eat from in the garden.
35:14 But don't go near this tree
35:15 of the knowledge of good and evil.
35:18 I don't want you to experience the evil with good,
35:20 I only want you to have good.
35:22 He said in Genesis 2:17.
35:25 "God warned them of the tree
35:26 of the knowledge of good and evil,
35:28 you shall not eat of it.
35:31 For in the day that you eat of it,
35:32 you will surely die."
35:35 And then it introduces an interesting character.
35:38 One day as Eve was walking through the garden,
35:41 doing her pleasant work and training the vines
35:43 and maybe gathering some fruit,
35:45 she saw the forbidden tree.
35:47 It was a beautiful tree, and it had beautiful,
35:49 luscious looking fruit on it.
35:51 And she was looking at the tree and the devil saw his chance.
35:54 So the devil possessed a serpent
35:58 and he spoke through this serpent
36:00 which was a beautiful creature at the time.
36:03 And it says, the serpent was more cunning,
36:05 more beautiful than any beasts of the field
36:08 which the Lord God had made.
36:10 And the serpent said to the woman,
36:13 "Has God said, 'You can't eat from the trees.'
36:14 " And she said, "No, we can eat from the trees.
36:16 We're just not supposed to eat from this tree
36:18 or even touch it, lest we die."
36:20 And the devil said, "He lied, you will not surely die."
36:24 You know the first question in the Bible.
36:27 The first question in the Bible is asked by the devil,
36:30 he says, "Has God said..."
36:33 The devil is questioning the Word of God.
36:35 The devil wants you to doubt the Word of God.
36:38 And after Adam and Eve began to doubt the Word of God,
36:40 all kinds of problems came in.
36:43 He said, "You will not surely die."
36:45 So Adam and Eve have to...
36:46 They've got to make a decision.
36:48 The devil said, you're not gonna die.
36:49 God said, you will die.
36:51 They have to decide who are we gonna follow?
36:54 The Bible says whoever you follow,
36:56 that's whose servant you become.
36:58 Are you gonna follow the serpent
37:00 or you gonna follow God?
37:02 I need a volunteer.
37:04 All right, let me see, we get a girl.
37:07 On the end here.
37:08 Young lady, you had your hand up.
37:10 Yeah. You're the one. All right.
37:11 I want you to look.
37:12 Are you afraid of snakes? No.
37:15 All right, you're gonna find a little snake in there.
37:17 Go ahead and grab, grab the snake.
37:20 Take your pick.
37:21 We can get another girl up here.
37:23 Or you can come up.
37:24 There's another snake in there.
37:26 You can go in the treasure chest.
37:33 You know what kind of snake you've got there?
37:35 You, you know what kind of snake that is?
37:38 Shake it.
37:40 It's a rattlesnake.
37:41 It rattles. Now I'm just teasing.
37:42 Okay. What's your name?
37:44 Lucia. Lucia.
37:46 Elena. Elena?
37:48 Yeah. All right.
37:50 Now, are some people scared of snakes?
37:52 Yes. Why?
37:54 Because they are venomous and they can kill...
37:56 Some snakes are venomous and they can kill you.
37:59 Are some snakes beautiful? Yes.
38:02 Can snakes be hypnotic?
38:04 Yes, snakes, sometimes they're weary,
38:07 they move and they slither
38:09 and they've got beautiful designs.
38:11 They can camouflage themselves so that you can't see them.
38:15 And they hide, and they wait for something,
38:17 and they have heat sinking in there.
38:19 They can smell when there's something warm,
38:22 and they strike very suddenly.
38:25 Now I used to live up in the mountains
38:26 where there was a lot of snakes,
38:28 and I used to watch out for rattlesnakes.
38:29 Matter of fact, I killed several rattlesnakes,
38:32 and before I knew better,
38:35 I ate one or two rattlesnakes, too.
38:37 You don't want to do that because there's no,
38:39 doesn't taste very good and it's not worth it anyway.
38:42 But snakes are cold blooded.
38:45 Snakes don't care about their babies,
38:47 typically, they'll have their babies,
38:48 they crawl away and they leave them.
38:50 The devil is cold blooded.
38:52 He uses camouflage.
38:54 He's hypnotic.
38:55 He does not care about anybody but himself.
38:59 And the devil spoke through this serpent.
39:02 And he used it because from that point
39:04 in the Garden of Eden all the way to Revelation
39:06 where it says the serpent.
39:08 The devil is a symbol for the serpent.
39:10 You know, it says in the Bible, you can put that snake down
39:12 on the ground there for a second.
39:15 One of the first prophecies in the Bible talks about
39:17 stepping on the head of the serpent.
39:19 You want to step on the head of the serpent?
39:21 Oh! No, he didn't say that.
39:24 And it says that's what Jesus is gonna do to the devil.
39:28 But it says the devil bit his heel...
39:31 Do you know?
39:32 I've got a friend, he's stood on a snake's head
39:35 and he thought that he could pick it up
39:37 and it was able to spin around and bite him.
39:40 So even when you think you've hurt them,
39:42 you got to be very careful because they're tenacious.
39:45 I heard about a man,
39:46 he saw a poor little snake on the road,
39:49 and it was winter
39:50 and it got cold, it got too cold.
39:52 You know, snakes are cold blooded,
39:53 they can't move if it gets too cold.
39:55 And he saw that snake could not move,
39:56 he was so cold.
39:57 He felt sorry for the snake.
39:59 So he picked up the snake and he put it under his shirt
40:01 to warm it up.
40:03 And you know what it did?
40:05 It warmed up, and then it bit him.
40:09 The devil will tell you to do something wrong.
40:12 He'll try and get you to feel sorry for him
40:13 and he'll bite you.
40:14 He does not care about you.
40:16 He'll tempt you to sin and then he will turn you in
40:18 and accuse you before God.
40:19 All right, you get to keep that.
40:21 I don't know if that's okay with your parents,
40:22 you can keep that one too.
40:24 Thank you very much.
40:25 You know, the most important decision
40:27 a young person can make
40:28 is that decision to follow Jesus
40:30 and begin that amazing adventure to eternity.
40:33 That's why we're so excited to tell you about
40:35 the new Amazing Adventure programs that are available.
40:38 During these nearly 10 hours
40:40 of exciting high definition programs,
40:42 the young people will do science experiments,
40:44 learn about history, nature, encounter some wild animals,
40:48 and most of all, they'll learn about Jesus
40:50 from the Word of God.
40:52 There's a beautifully illustrated Bible Study Guide
40:54 to go along with each of the video presentations.
40:57 These beautiful illustrated study guides
40:59 are full of pictures, and puzzles,
41:01 and Bible stories.
41:02 They'll lead your kids
41:04 through an incredible journey with Jesus.
41:06 But for me the most exciting,
41:07 is this new Amazing Adventure series
41:09 goes along with the Amazing Facts Adventure Bible.
41:12 The Bible, the study guides, the DVDs are all designed
41:16 to lead your young person
41:17 on a Journey for Life with Jesus.
41:20 Call the number on your screen
41:21 or contact us at afbookstore.com.
41:25 Well, let's get back to our lesson.
41:28 Why didn't Adam and Eve die
41:29 as soon as they ate the forbidden fruit?
41:32 Well, they did die spiritually.
41:36 As soon as they sinned, the robes of light went away,
41:38 they saw their nakedness and they were scared.
41:43 And the Bible says, a day with the Lord
41:45 is like 1000 years and 1000 years like a day.
41:47 How long did Adam live?
41:49 Who knows?
41:51 930 years.
41:54 The man who lived the longest, what was his name?
41:57 How long did he live?
41:59 969, very good.
42:03 Technically, Methuselah wasn't the man
42:05 who's lived the longest, Methuselah's father,
42:07 Enoch is still alive.
42:09 He is the longest living man,
42:11 the man who died after living the longest was Methuselah.
42:15 So God said, "In the day you eat thereof, you'll die."
42:17 No man lived 1000 years.
42:19 See, God made man to live forever.
42:21 So when you die after 900 years,
42:22 you're dying in that first millennial day,
42:24 but he began to die spiritually that day.
42:27 But why are we not dead now?
42:29 If the penalty for sin is death and if everybody has sinned?
42:33 Oh, the answer is on the screen.
42:36 Do you know this verse?
42:38 You want to say it with me?
42:39 "For God so loved the world
42:43 that He gave His only begotten Son,
42:47 that whoever believes in Him should not perish
42:52 but have everlasting life."
42:55 So you got two choices, the devil brings death
42:58 and God sent His Son.
43:00 Jesus said, "I will take the venom of the serpent."
43:03 You know, there's a prophecy in the Bible.
43:08 And it says, "As Moses lifted up the serpent
43:12 in the wilderness,
43:14 even so the Son of man must be lifted up.
43:16 You know all of the shepherds in the Bible,
43:19 they were worried about snakes
43:21 because snakes would kill their sheep.
43:23 And so, when you kill a serpent...
43:25 I've killed a lot of snakes.
43:26 I had a snake stick when I lived in the cave,
43:28 and I'd whack it over the head
43:30 and then I'd pick it up with a noose
43:31 on the end of the stick
43:32 because you don't want to grab it.
43:34 You may think it's dead,
43:35 and even after you've broken it up,
43:37 it'll spin around and bite you, they're very tenacious.
43:39 So the shepherds when they killed a snake,
43:41 they pick it up on a stick.
43:43 And all these people in Israel had been bitten by serpents
43:46 and God said, "Make a bronze serpent,
43:49 put it up on a pole.
43:51 And whoever looks at that,
43:52 it'll represent a defeated serpent.
43:55 He will live."
43:56 When Jesus died on the cross,
43:58 the blood of Christ is the anti-venom
44:01 for the bite of the serpent.
44:03 You can be healed from the deadly disease of sin
44:07 by realizing Jesus destroyed the power of the serpent
44:10 there on the cross.
44:11 And the serpent was crushed because of Christ.
44:15 But the devil, even after a serpent's wounded,
44:18 can it still bite?
44:20 Even though he's defeated,
44:21 you don't want to play with snakes,
44:23 because it can be dangerous.
44:26 The Bible says, "Be sober, be vigilant,
44:29 because your adversary the devil,
44:31 is going around not only like a serpent,
44:33 but like" what?
44:35 "A roaring lion seeking whom he might devour."
44:38 He's a man-eater, you might say.
44:40 Devil is going around looking for someone to destroy.
44:44 And the Lord said to Satan, "Where did you come from?"
44:48 And he said, "I have come from going to and fro on the earth
44:51 and walking up and down in it."
44:54 Satan is always looking for ways to hurt people.
44:56 Now why does the devil want to hurt humans?
45:00 The devil doesn't really care about you.
45:02 The devil used to be just under God.
45:04 But the devil knows that God so loves you.
45:09 And the way to hurt you
45:11 or to hurt God is by hurting you.
45:13 If I was gonna hurt your parents,
45:16 the best way to hurt your parents
45:17 is by hurting you because they love you.
45:20 When did it hurt you to see someone else
45:21 in your family suffer.
45:23 The devil wants to hurt God and so he hurts his children.
45:29 The devil is cold blooded.
45:32 "The dragon was wroth with the woman,"
45:34 it says in Revelation 12:17,
45:36 "And he goes to make war with the remnant of her seed
45:40 that keep the commandments of God
45:42 and have the testimony of Jesus."
45:44 That woman represents God's church.
45:46 The dragon is trying to destroy those who obey God,
45:49 who have the faith of Christ
45:51 and they obey the commandments of God.
45:53 The devil hates God's bride, God's church,
45:56 and you are part of God's people.
45:58 Once you accept Jesus, you become part of His church.
46:02 But do we need to be afraid of the devil?
46:04 Well, you don't want to pick up snakes,
46:05 but I'm not afraid of snakes.
46:08 It says, "Greater is He that is in you
46:11 than he that is in the devil.
46:12 So you've probably seen these cartoons before
46:14 where you've got, someone is tempted.
46:17 And they got a little good angel on the right side
46:19 and he's saying, "Don't do it.
46:20 This is bad."
46:22 Then you got a little evil angel on the other side.
46:24 "Ah, do it. It'll be fun, who cares?"
46:26 And it's like you got this battle going on inside
46:29 between these two forces?
46:30 Well, that's sort of real,
46:32 we get tempted sometimes to do things
46:34 and we hear a voice to our conscience.
46:36 Holy Spirit says, "No, don't do that."
46:37 And the devil says, "Nobody will know."
46:40 And you get to make decisions every day what to do?
46:43 Can you do the right thing if you ask God for help?
46:47 As soon as you're tempted,
46:48 you pray and then He will send His angels to help you.
46:53 You know when sailors go to sea,
46:56 they often have one of these.
46:58 You know what this is?
47:00 You know why?
47:01 'Cause if sailors have to jump off the ship in the night
47:03 and they need to find each other
47:05 and they're in a lifeboat,
47:06 they send out a distress signal.
47:11 And they use these loud whistles on boats.
47:13 So, you whistle and it sends help,
47:17 you know on all the airplanes you fly,
47:19 there's a life jacket.
47:20 You know the life jackets on the airplanes
47:21 you fly have a whistle.
47:23 So if the plane goes down in the water,
47:24 people can whistle and they can come together,
47:25 find each other in the dark.
47:29 What's our whistle?
47:31 Prayer.
47:32 Whenever we're in trouble,
47:34 what do we do when we're tempted?
47:36 Pray, and God will send help to you right away.
47:40 What will be Satan's final punishment?
47:44 The devil who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire.
47:48 The devil wanted to be God but he's going to lake of fire.
47:51 The Bible says also in Matthew 25:41,
47:54 "Depart for me ye cursed,
47:56 into everlasting fire prepared for the devil,
48:00 and" who?
48:02 "Satan's angels."
48:03 Now, does God wants you to be destroyed in the fires of hell.
48:05 No.
48:07 Who are the fires of hell prepared for?
48:09 For Satan's angels.
48:11 But if you choose to reject God,
48:15 God gives you the freedom to say no to God.
48:17 You can choose to love God
48:19 or you can choose to love yourself first.
48:21 You see, Satan is perfect evil.
48:26 Jesus is perfect good.
48:28 Satan is perfect selfishness.
48:31 Jesus is perfect love.
48:33 It's not that God made evil, God is light.
48:38 What happens when you take away the light?
48:39 What do you have? Darkness.
48:42 What happens when you take away the warmth?
48:46 Cold. It's not that God made a devil.
48:48 It's that when you reject the light of God,
48:50 you end up in darkness.
48:52 When you reject the warmth of God,
48:54 you end up in the cold.
48:55 When you reject the love of God,
48:57 you end up selfish and you will self destruct.
49:01 God wants to save you from the devil.
49:03 He wants to save you from sin.
49:05 All you have to do is choose to invite Him
49:08 into your heart.
49:09 Otherwise, Satan is gonna be destroyed.
49:11 You can read in Ezekiel 28,
49:13 those who follow Him will be destroyed.
49:15 "I will bring you to ashes upon the earth
49:17 in the sight of all them that behold you."
49:20 Says, you will be a terror and never will you be anymore.
49:24 But until Jesus comes, until the devil is destroyed,
49:27 how can we be protected from the devil?
49:31 Answer, "Put on," what?
49:34 "The whole armor of God
49:36 that you might be able to stand against the wiles,"
49:38 the wiles mean the tricks, "of the devil."
49:41 And then what else do we do?
49:43 It says, "The sword of the spirit,
49:45 which is The word of God."
49:48 All right, I need a volunteer.
49:51 All right, well, we picked a couple girls last time,
49:53 we'll pick a boy.
49:55 Let me see here.
49:57 Young man, right there, yeah, yeah.
49:59 Well, yeah.
50:00 Let's bring both of you here. Two with the glasses.
50:02 All right, come on up here. You related.
50:05 What your name?
50:07 Joshua. Joshua and...
50:09 Benjamin. Good Bible names.
50:11 All right.
50:12 So how do we fight the devil?
50:14 All right, Benjamin, this one's for you.
50:16 Oh, hang on to that for a second.
50:17 Okay. Hang on.
50:19 I gotta go check back here in the captain's deck.
50:27 Now this is Goliath sword.
50:30 That's quite a sword, huh?
50:31 Be careful. Don't hit the stage with that.
50:33 That's sharp.
50:34 Now, I can't let you take those home,
50:36 mom and dad may not allow it.
50:38 The Bible says, that the Bible...
50:40 Your mom would allow?
50:43 The Bible says, "The Word of God is quick,
50:44 and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword."
50:46 In Revelation, Jesus appears,
50:48 He's coming with a sword in His mouth.
50:50 Does Jesus really have a sword in His mouth?
50:52 It's a symbol for what?
50:53 The Word of God.
50:55 Why is the Bible compared to a two edged sword?
50:58 Well, you know the Bible is made up
50:59 and it's got the law and the prophets,
51:02 the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus.
51:06 It's got the two witnesses.
51:08 When you're tempted by the devil,
51:10 how do you fight the temptations of the devil?
51:13 How did Jesus fight the temptations of the devil?
51:16 He said, what did he say? What's it on the screen?
51:19 "It is written."
51:20 All three times Jesus turned to the Word of God,
51:23 you can resist the devil, claim the promises of God.
51:27 You can claim the power of God, when the devil tempts you,
51:29 if you hide God's Word in your heart,
51:31 it becomes a weapon to fight the enemy.
51:36 You feel a little safer against the devil
51:37 if you had something like that.
51:41 So what do we do with the sword when we're tempted?
51:46 There you go, chop off the head of snake, okay.
51:49 I'll tell you what?
51:51 I'll let you hold those for me when you go back to your seats.
51:53 You just got to put them down though.
51:54 You can carry those back to you seats,
51:56 but I can't let you take them home.
51:57 There'd probably be some liability issues on that.
52:01 All right, so how do we fight the devil?
52:04 This was our scripture we started with,
52:06 "Therefore submit to God.
52:08 Resist the devil" and what will the devil do?
52:11 "He'll run from you."
52:12 And Jesus resisted the devil, he ran.
52:14 "Draw near to God,
52:16 and He will draw near to you."
52:19 You know, I remember hearing it number of years ago.
52:21 A boat was sailing off
52:25 the south eastern shore of South Africa.
52:27 Now Pastor Ross, he's from South Africa.
52:30 They've got a lot of sharks,
52:31 they got great white sharks out there.
52:34 They actually take people out and put them in cages
52:36 and let them feed the sharks.
52:38 And the boat, the motor died.
52:39 There's a whole family
52:41 and some friends out in this boat
52:42 and they were about 15 miles offshore
52:44 trying to fish them out.
52:45 The inboard motor died and then they tried to get
52:47 the outboard motor too, and it died,
52:49 and they were stuck and their radio stopped working
52:52 and nobody knew where they were.
52:54 And then after about a day,
52:55 the weather changed and the waves got really big
52:58 and the water started coming into the boat.
52:59 The boat started leaking
53:01 because of where the motor broke,
53:04 and eventually the boat was swamped with water.
53:06 The boat was capsized.
53:10 And it looked like everybody was gonna drown
53:12 because the water was cold out in that part of the ocean.
53:15 After a day and the night in the water,
53:18 one person drowned.
53:19 And there was a young girl, her name was Yvonne.
53:21 She was 17 years old.
53:23 She said, "Our only hope is for me to swim for help."
53:25 She was on a swimming team,
53:27 and she was a really good swimmer.
53:29 They could tell from the sun
53:31 which way to go towards the shore.
53:33 And she took off swimming.
53:35 And she swam and she swam
53:37 and she claimed the promise in the Bible.
53:40 It was a promise.
53:41 It says when I pass through the waters you will be with me.
53:46 And she was swimming and then she saw sharks.
53:49 She knew that sharks were there.
53:50 There are a lot of sharks in that water.
53:52 And they started to circle.
53:53 And she started praying.
53:55 She said, "Oh, Lord, when you pass through the waters,
53:56 you'll be with me."
53:58 And then she saw the sharks were...
53:59 more were gathering.
54:01 And she thought, and she had swum now for hours.
54:05 And she saw, eventually they're closing the circle
54:07 and she was praying, "Lord, don't let me die slowly.
54:09 Don't let them bite off an arm and then a leg,
54:11 help me die quickly."
54:13 But she kept swimming.
54:14 And she kept claiming that promise
54:16 when I pass through the waters, you will be with me.
54:19 And she saw one of the sharks was coming in,
54:21 and it was gonna attack, it was swimming very quickly.
54:24 And then out of nowhere, boom,
54:26 a dolphin came and banged against the shark.
54:29 And another shark started coming.
54:31 Another dolphin came and banged against the shark.
54:33 And then Yvonne fainted.
54:36 The next thing she knew there was a Coast Guard ship.
54:41 And they picked her up and they came over
54:43 and they found there were two dolphins
54:45 that were holding her up out of the water
54:48 protecting her and they were witnesses.
54:50 They saved her.
54:52 They found that she had swam 15 miles.
54:55 By the time they picked her up and they went back
54:57 and they rescued the rest of the party.
54:58 How did she fight against the devil?
55:02 She claimed the promises of God.
55:04 It doesn't mean there won't be temptation.
55:06 It doesn't mean there might not be some times of fear.
55:08 But when we're in trouble, if we come to Jesus,
55:11 will He let the devil hurt us?
55:14 You might be tempted,
55:16 you might be tested like Job was,
55:17 but if you put your trust in the Lord,
55:19 He will save you now,
55:21 and He will save you for eternity.
55:23 Now the devil is like a serpent.
55:25 Bible says he's like a scorpion,
55:27 says he's like a lion.
55:29 He's an evil.
55:30 He's bent on your destruction.
55:32 Your only safety
55:34 is to put your life in God's hands
55:36 and Jesus will take care of you.
55:38 So here's my question for you.
55:40 You have an opportunity right now.
55:43 Do you want to follow Jesus and put on His armor
55:46 and be protected from the dragon?
55:48 Are you willing to accept Jesus' sacrifice
55:50 and His blood to save you from the venom of sin
55:53 to wash away all of your sins?
55:55 Is that your desire?
55:57 And to guard you, God will send His angels.
55:59 The angel of the Lord encamps around
56:01 about those that serve him."
56:03 How many of you want God's angels to watch over you,
56:05 protect you from the devil and his angels?
56:59 Hi, friends, you know, the most important decision
57:02 a young person can make
