00:11 Hi, kids.
00:12 You want to hear an amazing fact?
00:14 Every fall in the woods of September
00:16 when it gets cold,
00:17 there are these wood frogs
00:19 they kind of crawl under the leaves,
00:20 but they can't get away from the cold,
00:22 they end up freezing solid.
00:24 Two thirds of their body turns to ice.
00:27 If you pick them up, they would not move.
00:29 If you bent one of their legs, it would break off.
00:32 Inside these frozen frogs,
00:34 other weird physiological things are going on.
00:37 Their hearts stop beating, the lungs stop breathing,
00:41 and their blood no longer flows.
00:43 To all outward appearance, they're dead.
00:46 The craziest thing is they can remain
00:49 in this frozen state withstanding temperatures
00:51 way below zero for as long as seven months.
00:55 And then when spring arrives, they fall out,
00:58 shake themselves and hop away.
01:01 They're able to do this because when the weather turns cold,
01:04 their bodies release a glucose kind of an antifreeze
01:07 into their bloodstream.
01:08 Then, when the weather warms up,
01:10 something within these frogs seems to spark a resurrection.
01:14 Kids, did you know the Bible tells us
01:16 that if you've got the Spirit of God in you,
01:18 if you committed your life to Jesus,
01:20 it will help you survive the winter of death,
01:22 and it'll spark a resurrection when Jesus comes.
01:25 We're going to learn more about that
01:27 in today's program.
01:28 So let's get on board and begin an amazing adventure.
01:49 Good evening, everyone.
01:51 Welcome again to Amazing Adventure,

03:55 Thank you everybody. Please be seated.
03:57 Thank you to our song leaders
03:59 for helping us here with our song.
04:01 Well, Pastor Ross, this has been a joy
04:04 doing this program and meeting
04:05 so many new friends.
04:07 And I hope you'll be telling your friends
04:09 about the Amazing Adventure program
04:10 so they can get closer to Jesus.
04:13 All right, we do have our video Bible questions.
04:16 I think we have an extra one
04:17 that we're gonna be looking at this evening.
04:18 So we'll be ready to look at the first one.
04:21 Hi, Pastor Doug, my name is Abby,
04:24 and my Bible question is,
04:26 how do we know the Bible is real?
04:29 So Abby has a question, important one,
04:31 how do we know that the Bible is real?
04:36 How many of you know your multiplication tables?
04:40 Seven times seven is 49
04:43 and five times five?
04:45 Twenty Five.
04:46 So you memorize that
04:48 probably somewhere in elementary school,
04:50 I'm still working on it, but I know some of them.
04:54 And the reason you use the multiplication table
04:56 is because it works.
04:58 The reason we know the Bible is true
05:01 is because it works.
05:03 It does change lives.
05:05 You've got millions of lives over 6000 years of history
05:10 that have been transformed by the power
05:12 and the message of this book.
05:13 Also because of its supernatural ability
05:17 to foretell the future.
05:19 For example, Jesus said,
05:21 "These teachings of my will go into all the world."
05:25 That was a prophecy Jesus made,
05:27 that His teachings would go into all the world.
05:29 How did He know that?
05:31 He was an uneducated carpenter in a small town.
05:35 He didn't have any degrees or any military experience.
05:39 But did His prophecy come true?
05:42 Christianity is now the largest religion
05:44 in the world, 2.2 billion Christians.
05:46 Jesus teachings went into all the world.
05:49 Jesus foretold Jerusalem would be destroyed.
05:52 Jesus foretold many things,
05:54 the Bible prophecies tell many things
05:55 that all came to pass
05:58 and the reason that we know that Bible is real
06:01 is because it works.
06:03 It has proven itself to be true.
06:04 Jesus said, "Thy Word is truth."
06:08 And then Jesus said,
06:09 "I am the way, the truth and the life."
06:13 And so the evidence of history, bestselling book,
06:17 even after well, for 2000 years,
06:19 at least the last 2000 years.
06:21 It's, they weren't printing it except the last 500 years.
06:26 Yeah.
06:28 Bestselling book in the world because it works.
06:31 It is real.
06:33 All right, very good, our next question.
06:34 Hi, Pastor Doug.
06:36 My name is Laura and I'm from Branch, Michigan.
06:39 My Bible question is,
06:41 how did God choose the disciples?
06:43 Okay, so the next question is a good one.
06:45 I didn't think of that until I saw the question.
06:48 How did Christ choose the disciples?
06:50 Right now when we say disciple,
06:53 technically you are all disciples,
06:56 many times people talk about the 12 disciples,
06:58 they usually mean the apostles.
07:01 Disciple is anybody
07:03 that follows the teachings of Jesus.
07:05 But I think she's asking,
07:07 "How did Jesus pick the 12 apostles?"
07:09 Well, his decision was led by the Holy Spirit.
07:12 A God guided Jesus to the people
07:14 that would have the potential
07:17 to be the leaders of the newly formed church.
07:19 Now with one exception,
07:21 Jesus did not on His own pick Judas,
07:25 as Jesus picked the other apostles,
07:28 they started recommending Judas to Jesus.
07:31 They said, "Oh, he's really smart.
07:32 He's a scribe,
07:34 he can be the treasurer for the group.
07:35 He's got great ability.
07:36 He really would like to be an apostle
07:39 and Jesus gave in to their request
07:41 and Jesus said, "Have I not chosen 12
07:43 and one is the devil."
07:44 So right from the beginning,
07:46 Jesus knew that Judas did not have the best motives.
07:49 In fact,
07:50 when Judas first decided to follow Jesus,
07:52 he said, "Master, I'll follow you anywhere."
07:54 Jesus knew his heart and he said,
07:57 "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have the Nest,
08:01 but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."
08:03 Judas, if you're following me
08:04 because you want riches and fame,
08:06 you're following me for the wrong reason.
08:09 Jesus knew what was going on,
08:10 Judas heart, he wanted power,
08:12 he wanted money.
08:13 And so, but the Holy Spirit guided Jesus
08:15 in choosing the other 11 apostles.
08:18 Okay, our next question that we have.
08:20 Hi, my name is Brooke
08:22 and I am eight years old and I am from California
08:24 and my Bible question is,
08:25 how can Jesus be a man and God at the same time?
08:28 All right, we got a question from someone
08:31 in our home church in California,
08:33 and Brooke is asking
08:34 how could Jesus be both God and man?
08:37 Now the Bible speaks of several mysteries.
08:39 I don't know if I remember them all.
08:40 You got, of course a mystery of iniquity.
08:42 And you get the mystery of godliness
08:45 and the mystery of the resurrection.
08:47 But one of the mysteries is the idea
08:50 of what we call the incarnation,
08:53 how God could fill a man
08:57 and how Jesus could be 100% man and 100% God.
09:01 How many percent is that?
09:03 It seems like 200% but nothing,
09:05 no person can be 200% of the one thing
09:08 and so it is something of a mystery
09:11 that God came into the form of man
09:15 in the incarnation
09:16 when Jesus was born
09:19 and when Jesus rose from the dead,
09:20 did He still have a human form?
09:23 He did.
09:24 Did He appear to the disciples after the resurrection?
09:27 Was he still human? Did they touch him?
09:29 After the resurrection,
09:31 Jesus ate in front of the disciples.
09:33 Did He still have scars in His hands?
09:35 He did.
09:37 So even in eternity, Jesus is retaining this form
09:40 He took as the person on earth.
09:42 Now, of course, man was made in the image of God.
09:44 So it started out with our imitating His image,
09:47 but it is something of a mystery.
09:50 You know, I heard a story one time,
09:53 this man couldn't understand the story of the incarnation.
09:59 He was an old farmer
10:00 and his wife kept telling him to go to church
10:02 and he didn't want to go to church.
10:03 He couldn't understand how Jesus become a man.
10:06 Why would He do that?
10:08 He didn't need to become a man to save them.
10:09 And while the man was thinking about
10:11 that there was a terrible blizzard outside
10:13 and he went to look out the window
10:15 and just as he looked out the window,
10:16 he heard bang, and he looked up
10:19 and a goose had flown into the window.
10:23 And so he thought, oh, they're caught in the blizzard.
10:27 They don't know what to do. They're cold.
10:29 He thought I will open the barn
10:30 and he got a lantern and he went out.
10:32 He said, "I'll open the barn
10:33 'cause there's a whole flock of geese
10:34 that were outside freezing."
10:36 He went to open the barn,
10:37 and he tried to shoot the geese into the barn,
10:41 but they wouldn't follow him.
10:43 And he finally realized I'll get one of my geese
10:47 and he got one of his tamed geese.
10:49 He brought it outside.
10:51 He let the other geese see his tamed goose.
10:53 He brought that one into the barn
10:54 and then they followed him in.
10:56 He realized the reason God had to become a man
10:58 is because we needed to know that he understood us.
11:03 God already knows everything.
11:05 But it is, the incarnation is something of a mystery.
11:08 All right.
11:09 Well, that is it for our Bible questions this evening.
11:11 We'll take some more tomorrow.
11:12 Thank you very much, Pastor Ross,
11:14 and thank you young people for your good questions.
11:16 We have, I think,
11:17 what's gonna be a very interesting
11:19 and important lesson tonight, and it's called
11:21 "Whistling through the Graveyard."
11:24 And I remember one time
11:27 I ran away from home and at night,
11:31 I had to go from the street to the mountains
11:32 where I lived by going through a graveyard,
11:35 and I was a little scared
11:37 because I had watched all these stories about,
11:39 you know, ghosts coming out of the grave,
11:41 I used to watch Casper the ghost,
11:43 he was a friendly ghost,
11:45 and there were you know, boogeyman under the bed.
11:47 And you know, you grow up
11:49 and you have all these things you're afraid of
11:50 and so going through the cemetery,
11:52 I just thought, boy,
11:54 I hope nobody jumps out of the grave
11:55 and grabs me by the ankle and pulls me in
11:58 'cause there could be zombies out there
11:59 and a lot of people are scared.
12:01 The subject of death spooks and scares people.
12:04 And the devil uses this, and I'm gonna explain tonight
12:07 what the Bible says about the subject.
12:09 So, of course, we had our memory verse,
12:11 1 Thessalonians 4:16,
12:13 "The Lord will descend from heaven with a shout,
12:16 with the voice of the archangel,
12:18 and the trumpet of God
12:19 and the dead in Christ will rise."
12:21 We do not need to worry about death
12:22 because those who die believing in Jesus
12:25 will live again.
12:27 Now this year, Pastor Doug and Mrs. Batchelor
12:29 and a couple of our Amazing Facts team
12:31 that are here tonight, we were in France
12:34 and there is a creepy cemetery in France.
12:37 It is the biggest cemetery in the world.
12:39 It is underground.
12:40 What happened?
12:42 About 150 years ago,
12:44 they ran out of room in Paris to bury all the dead people,
12:47 you know, they had plagues and cemeteries
12:48 filled a lot of spots
12:50 and they weren't cremating people,
12:51 they needed a new grave and sometimes they try
12:53 and put two or three people in a grave
12:54 and they got where the graves were
12:56 so overcrowded with bodies, every square inch,
12:59 they put a body, then it rained real hard,
13:02 and the cemeteries were collapsing
13:04 and land sliding,
13:06 where they had all these skeletons
13:07 in the street
13:09 and the officials in Paris said,
13:10 "We got to do something.
13:11 This is unsanitary.
13:13 We got this dead people bodies everywhere.
13:14 We don't know what to do."
13:16 Underneath the city of Paris,
13:18 they had 200 miles of tunnels
13:23 that were dug by workmen that dug out limestone
13:26 when they were building up the city of Paris,
13:28 200 miles of tunnels.
13:31 And they said, "Well, why don't we just dig up
13:33 all the graves and we will put them
13:35 in the tunnels under Paris and they spent a hundred,
13:39 over a hundred years of moving the cemetery.
13:42 There are now 6 million bodies buried underneath.
13:47 Six million former Parisians
13:49 buried underneath the city of Paris
13:51 and when we were there, we went down
13:53 and we videotaped a creepy amazing fact about,
13:56 you know, Ezekiel has this vision
13:57 full of bones, a valley full of bones
13:59 and we talked about the bones in Paris
14:02 and they've only opened one mile we went,
14:04 we took a tour one mile of the tunnels
14:06 and it's kind of weird, you know,
14:08 you're walking along and,
14:09 and they got them all stacked up.
14:10 It's like a work of art.
14:12 And some of the stack I mean,
14:13 they make artistic designs with the bones.
14:14 They wanted to stack them
14:16 so they wouldn't keep falling over into the aisles
14:18 and you're not allowed to go
14:20 into some of the unexplored tunnels
14:22 or some of the distant tunnels.
14:23 They've got them all gated off
14:25 because a few years ago, one man,
14:27 I just remember his first name was Nestor.
14:30 He decided to go exploring on his own
14:32 and they never saw him again
14:34 until 11 years later they found him.
14:38 He got lost among all the bones.
14:41 That'd be awful, huh.
14:44 Does cemetery scare you?
14:46 You don't need to be scared.
14:48 I wouldn't be one bit scared.
14:50 You know, I heard a story once about a boy.
14:52 He decided to take a shortcut home from school
14:55 and it was a little creepy going through the cemetery
14:58 but it's on daytime I should be safe
15:00 and he stopped and he read some of the tombstones.
15:02 And he saw one
15:03 that he thought was very interesting.
15:05 The tombstone was really a message to the living.
15:07 Here's what it said, "Stop my friend,
15:10 as you go by, as you are now so once was I,
15:16 as I am now, you soon will be.
15:20 So prepare yourself to follow me."
15:23 He looked at that for a minute.
15:25 And then he looked to his right and he looked to his left
15:26 and he got a crayon out of his bag.
15:29 And he wrote underneath the tombstone,
15:32 "To follow you, I'm not content
15:34 until I know just where you went."
15:38 Where do people go when they die?
15:41 He was a little worried about that.
15:42 We're going to find out what the Bible says
15:44 about the death and what happens
15:46 'cause you need to understand this
15:48 so you won't be deceived by the devil.
15:50 Number one.
15:51 What really happens when you die?
15:54 And where do you go?
15:55 What does the Bible say?
15:57 Genesis 2:7, God told Adam and Eve,
16:00 "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground."
16:04 And it says, "He breathed
16:05 into his nostrils the breath of life,
16:09 and man became a living soul."
16:11 So God took the elements of the earth there,
16:13 the dust, and the ground, and the clay,
16:15 and He formed Adam
16:17 and then He gave him, have you ever seen
16:20 when someone may be stopped breathing
16:21 'cause they were drowned
16:23 and someone else will give them a artificial respiration.
16:25 That means you kind of gotta kiss a person,
16:27 and you blow in their mouth.
16:30 And some people have,
16:32 many people had been saved because of that.
16:34 They get the water out and they blow in n their mouth
16:36 and God sort of gave Adam the kiss of life,
16:38 you might say, He breathed into him,
16:41 and Adam became a living soul.
16:44 And the Bible says when a person dies,
16:47 that's sort of his creation in reverse.
16:50 Ecclesiastes 12:7.
16:52 It says, "Then the dust will return
16:54 to the earth as it was,
16:56 and the spirit will return to God who gave it."
16:58 Now this is where people get mixed up.
17:01 Solomon here in Ecclesiastes,
17:03 he says, "The spirit returns to God."
17:06 So what is happening when the spirit returns to God?
17:08 Does that mean that when you die,
17:11 that some little butterfly light goes flutters out of you
17:14 and goes off to be with God, the spirit?
17:19 Is that what happens?
17:21 No, the spirit the Bible tells us
17:23 is the breath of life.
17:24 Now I need one person to come up here
17:26 and help me illustrate something fairly simple.
17:29 So, let's see here.
17:34 All right, you young man right here.
17:36 Okay, come on. Yeah, you, you are the one.
17:40 Okay, come on, what's your name?
17:42 Levi.
17:43 That's a great name, Levi.
17:45 All right here.
17:49 You know what that is?
17:50 No.
17:52 This is called a plasma ball.
17:56 Now see that little socket on the back.
17:58 Yeah.
17:59 You want to plug that in there for me?
18:01 I'll help you.
18:02 Ah.
18:03 I am just kidding.
18:06 You want to touch that and see what happens?
18:08 It follows your fingers, isn't it?
18:10 It's got plasma, look at that, whoa.
18:14 So now what's making it do this?
18:17 We plugged it in.
18:19 What's coming through this wire?
18:21 Energy. Energy, yeah.
18:23 You know what makes the lights come on?
18:26 Have you heard the word electricity?
18:27 Yeah, that's what this is.
18:29 All right, so we got electricity coming through.
18:30 Now it's giving it life.
18:32 See it all moving?
18:34 It's kind of, you know, it's kind of follows my hand.
18:35 Whoa, that looks creepy, doesn't it?
18:38 I wonder what would happen if you kissed it?
18:41 No, I'm not gonna try it.
18:43 Anyway, unplug it now very carefully.
18:47 Oh, where did the plasma go?
18:52 I don't know.
18:54 It went back to the electric company,
18:55 didn't it?
18:57 What happens when God breathes the breath of life,
19:00 it's like electricity into man.
19:04 It gives him power,
19:05 it brings the energy combines with the body
19:08 and you've got the plasma ball and it does interesting things.
19:12 And when you then unplug it,
19:14 power is just back at the power company.
19:17 Thank you very much. Let's give him a hand.
19:22 When you die, and it says a spirit returns to God,
19:25 it's not talking about a little personalized ghost.
19:28 As a matter of fact, it says the spirit of you,
19:31 it could be an animal, a dog or a cat,
19:33 the spirit of life of any creature
19:36 when it dies, returns to God.
19:38 It's not saying the ghost jumps out of them
19:40 and goes off to heaven.
19:42 The spirit returns to God who gave it,
19:44 and that's Ecclesiastes 12:7.
19:45 Number two.
19:47 What is the spirit that returns to God when someone dies?
19:52 Hey, here's an interesting verse,
19:54 Job 27:3, it says,
19:56 "The Spirit of God is in my nostrils."
20:00 Now if the spirit is a ghost,
20:02 how many of you ever thought you had a ghost in your nose?
20:06 Job said, "The Spirit of God's in my nostrils."
20:09 That's not talking about a ghost
20:10 or a spirit going up your nose.
20:13 It's talking about wind, air.
20:17 The breath of life.
20:19 You know, in Hebrew,
20:20 the word is ruach, just means breath.
20:23 In Greek, it's the same word except its pneuma
20:26 and that means breath.
20:27 It means the same thing.
20:29 You ever heard, you boys,
20:30 some of you know about what a pneumatic tool is?
20:32 Anyone know what a pneumatic tool is?
20:34 Pneumatic tools are tools
20:35 that are driven in a shop by air,
20:37 air, and if someone gets sick, they get pneumonia.
20:41 That's a disease of your breathing.
20:43 Pneuma means spirit breath.
20:45 And so some people think that there's a ghost.
20:48 And it's really just talking about
20:49 the breath of God that gives life
20:51 so when a person dies,
20:53 you've got creation in reverse.
20:56 The body without the spirit is what?
20:59 It's dead.
21:01 If a person dies, they cease to exist,
21:04 the Spirit of God, the life goes back to God
21:06 who gave it, the body,
21:08 now you know, if a person is not mummified
21:10 like the Egyptians used to very carefully wrap
21:12 and mummify a body.
21:13 What happens when a deer gets hit by car
21:15 and it lays on the road long enough?
21:17 What happens to that deer?
21:19 It just sort of rots and turns back
21:20 into soil after a while, doesn't it?
21:23 And that's what the Bible says ashes to ashes.
21:26 God said to Adam and Eve, "Ashes you are,
21:28 unto ashes you'll return, dust you are,
21:30 unto dust you'll return.
21:32 That's why the resurrection is so important.
21:34 So if the spirit is the breath of life,
21:38 what is a soul?
21:41 Bible says in Genesis 2:7,
21:43 "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,
21:48 and he breathed into his nostrils
21:50 the breath of life, and man",
21:52 here it is, "became a soul."
21:56 Notice the combination,
21:58 breath of life into his nostrils
22:00 plus the body, man becomes a living soul.
22:03 Okay, I just, I want to make sure
22:05 you guys don't miss this
22:06 'cause the devil's fooling with a lot of people.
22:08 I need a couple of people who are good cooks.
22:11 And we'll get over here and just,
22:13 you're going to do some real important cooking.
22:15 Okay, young lady here, you can come and yeah,
22:17 I'll get two together, yeah, there we go,
22:19 I'll get two, don't worry, we're not done.
22:20 We'll get more chances.
22:22 Look in the treasure chest and one of you see
22:25 if you can find some bread.
22:27 One of you see if you can find something,
22:29 wave to the camera while you're in there.
22:30 Say hi. Go ahead.
22:32 Find some bread and find something
22:33 to put on the bread.
22:35 There you go. Okay, come on over here.
22:38 Now, what's your name? Lanayi.
22:39 Lanayi, can you open up those pieces of bread?
22:42 I need two pieces of bread.
22:43 And your name? Sophia.
22:44 Sophia, why don't you open up those two pieces?
22:46 What are those? Cheese.
22:48 What is that? Cheese.
22:50 What do you say when you get a picture taken?
22:52 Cheese Except that's actually vegan cheese.
22:55 Oh, that's good. I like it.
22:57 It's better.
22:58 Okay, that's gonna be hard to take apart.
23:00 All right, I'll hold that one for you
23:01 when open the other one up here.
23:03 Let me take your, masseur.
23:05 All right, yeah, I'll take your wrappers,
23:07 in which I'm just very sanitary that way.
23:10 Here, you wanna me to hold your cheese?
23:13 Okay, now why don't you put that on the bread?
23:16 You a good cook?
23:18 Okay, here we go.
23:22 And we don't want to scam
23:24 so we had two pieces of vegan cheese in.
23:26 Well, you want to finish off this masterpiece,
23:29 put that on there.
23:30 Now what did we just create? Let me take your wrappers.
23:33 What is this now? Cheese sandwich.
23:35 A sandwich.
23:37 You mean all we had to do
23:39 was put together two pieces of bread
23:43 and two pieces of cheese and voila,
23:45 miracle has transpired.
23:48 These guys are great cooks, aren't they?
23:51 You didn't know you had it,
23:52 you can probably start your own television show now.
23:54 You know where the word sandwich
23:55 comes from,
23:57 the Earl of Sandwich was a gambler
24:01 and he was so involved, gambling was very wealthy.
24:04 He told the servants he said, I need something to eat.
24:06 Well, eating was a big affair back then.
24:08 He said, just make me something quick and bring it,
24:10 I can't stop playing this card game.
24:12 So they took a couple pieces of bread
24:14 and stuck some cheese
24:16 and meat on it and handed to him.
24:17 And it became very popular among his guests
24:19 and they called it a sandwich.
24:21 That's where the word comes from anyway, but don't gamble.
24:23 So now, I want you to disassemble.
24:29 You can let want her holding the bread.
24:33 You take the cheese.
24:35 All right.
24:37 Where did the sandwich go?
24:40 Where did it go?
24:42 Is that a sandwich? Is that a sandwich?
24:46 That's two pieces of bread.
24:47 If you said, "Mom,
24:49 can you make me a sandwich for lunch."
24:50 And you look in your lunch box
24:51 and you open up and you got that?
24:53 You gonna say, "I want another mother," right?
24:56 If that's my sandwich,
24:57 I think you have a right to protest
24:59 and call the authorities and if you say, "Mom.
25:02 I want a sandwich," and you look in your lunch box
25:04 and she says, "There's your sandwich."
25:07 What? Is that a sandwich?
25:09 No. Is that a sandwich?
25:12 Put them back together again.
25:15 Now what do we have?
25:17 It's not much of a sandwich.
25:19 I mean, I'd like something some lettuce
25:20 and something else on there
25:21 but it does qualify as a sandwich.
25:23 All right. Split it up again.
25:27 Yeah, there we go.
25:28 I asked you again. Where did the sandwich go?
25:32 It stops being a sandwich when you separate the two.
25:37 You got the body, you got the spirit.
25:41 When you separate the body from the spirit,
25:43 you don't have a soul.
25:45 Everyone says, "Where does the soul go
25:47 when the spirit and the body are separated?"
25:49 It stops being a soul.
25:52 Now if you guys really want it bad enough,
25:53 I'll let you keep that stuff or you can leave with me.
25:56 Why don't you put the cheese back on there?
25:58 We will auction that off after the program,
26:00 now that everybody's touched it here.
26:03 Thank you. Let's give him a hand.
26:04 Thank you very much.
26:10 So you beginning to get the idea
26:12 when people say, "Yeah,
26:14 but they died, where did the soul go?"
26:16 It stops being a soul,
26:17 because it's a combination of the breath of God
26:20 and the body that equals a soul.
26:23 So when a person dies and they're saved,
26:26 do they go immediately to heaven?
26:30 What does the Bible say?
26:32 Peter preaching at Pentecost.
26:34 Now this is after Jesus died.
26:36 Peter says, "Men and brethren,"
26:38 he's talking to a crowd of thousands of Jewish men.
26:40 He says, "Let me freely speak to you of the patriarch David."
26:44 You all know, David killed Goliath.
26:45 Is David good or bad? Good.
26:47 Will David be in heaven? Yes.
26:49 Okay, here's what Peter says about King David,
26:52 who's been dead for a 1000 years
26:53 when Peter said this.
26:55 "Let me freely speak to you of the patriarch David
26:58 that he is dead and buried, his sepulcher, his tomb,
27:02 his grave is with us to this day."
27:05 And then he says,
27:07 "David is not ascended in heaven."
27:09 Now how can that be misunderstood?
27:10 Peter said, "David is dead,
27:12 he's buried, his tomb is here,
27:14 he's not in heaven."
27:16 So when people die,
27:17 do they go to heaven before the resurrection?
27:20 No, they stay in their graves.
27:22 You can read about this in Psalm 115:17,
27:26 "The dead do not praise the Lord nor any
27:29 who go down into silence."
27:32 Now, if you die and you went right to heaven,
27:34 the first thing I would do is praise the Lord,
27:36 that I'm there, right?
27:38 But it says, "The dead aren't praising the Lord."
27:40 You see, the resurrection, is it past or future?
27:43 The Great Resurrection Day? Future.
27:46 The Great Judgment Day,
27:47 is it in the past or in the future?
27:49 The Great Resurrection doesn't happen
27:51 until after the Great Judgment
27:54 and so, it's all gonna be in the future.
27:57 So where are people who died?
28:01 They're in their graves or they're asleep,
28:03 they're unconscious until that day comes.
28:06 Listen to what the Bible says.
28:08 What do dead people know after they die?
28:14 Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived.
28:16 Here's what he wrote about that.
28:18 "The Living know that they will die.
28:20 But the dead know," you see it on our sale up here,
28:23 the dead know how much,
28:25 zero, nada, zip, nothing.
28:29 They don't know anything.
28:31 They're not thinking anything.
28:33 You know, in the Bible, there are 12 resurrections,
28:36 approximately 12 resurrections.
28:38 We're not sure when Paul was stoned
28:41 if he was stoned to death
28:42 and God did rose him or if he was just unconscious
28:44 and God healed him, it's not clear.
28:46 But there's about 12 resurrections.
28:48 Now if you knew somebody that was dead for several days
28:50 and they were resurrected,
28:52 what would be the first thing you'd want to ask them?
28:56 What did you see? What was it like?
29:00 And yet the people who are resurrected,
29:03 they never make any comment on what they saw
29:05 when they were dead.
29:06 You know why? The dead know how much?
29:09 They don't know anything.
29:10 They're not praising the Lord.
29:11 They're unconscious.
29:13 Here's what Solomon also says in Ecclesiastes 9:10,
29:17 "Whatever your hand finds to do,
29:20 do it with your might."
29:22 While you're alive, young people,
29:23 do what you're going to do
29:24 while you're alive because he says,
29:26 "There is no work or device or knowledge
29:30 or wisdom in the grave where you're going."
29:33 If you're going to live, live while you're young
29:36 and you're alive and your hands,
29:37 and your body,
29:39 and your mind are all working, live life to the fullest.
29:42 It says, "You're not going to be doing anything for God
29:44 when you're dead, do it while you're alive."
29:48 Can a dead person's soul or spirit come back
29:53 and talk to the living?
29:55 What does the Bible say?
29:57 Can they see what's happening on this earth?
30:01 No.
30:02 The Bible says,
30:03 "He will be brought to the grave
30:06 and a vigil will be kept over him."
30:08 Scripture say he remains in the tomb.
30:11 "So man lieth down
30:13 and he riseth not till the heavens be no more."
30:18 When does he rise?
30:19 When the heavens are no more.
30:21 What does the Bible say?
30:22 The Bible says, "The heavens will depart as a scroll
30:26 when Jesus comes."
30:27 So it's not until the resurrection
30:28 they know anything.
30:30 So when somebody says,
30:32 well, you know, that house is haunted,
30:36 somebody died in that house and there's spirits there.
30:41 Could a person sense there's evil spirits somewhere?
30:46 Oh, sure.
30:48 Does the devil have fallen angels?
30:50 Yeah.
30:52 So when a person feels like they're being spooked,
30:55 its fallen angels impersonating the dead.
30:59 Dead people don't know anything.
31:00 It is not your grandma and your grandpa.
31:02 Now I don't know how you feel.
31:05 But my father's mom,
31:07 Grandma Batchelor was a Christian.
31:09 She was a Baptist.
31:11 She died.
31:12 If you die and you went right to heaven,
31:14 and she'd be up there in heaven looking down on you,
31:16 I even heard it on the news today in my hotel room,
31:18 they talked about so and so is up in heaven
31:20 now looking down on everybody.
31:22 Everybody says this.
31:24 You go to funerals.
31:26 There'll be the body sitting there
31:27 in the grave in the casket.
31:29 You know, if you've ever been to a funeral,
31:30 sometimes the body is right there
31:31 and there's a casket.
31:33 Sometimes it's open, sometimes it's closed.
31:34 Preacher is up there, he's preaching.
31:35 And he's saying,
31:37 "Our dear beloved loved one is up in heaven
31:39 singing with the angels."
31:41 And you're looking at their body right there.
31:42 You know, no, they are not right there.
31:44 But they make everybody seem like they're right in heaven.
31:47 But I'll explain that in a minute
31:48 why there's so much confusion.
31:51 Mrs. Batchelor and I bought a house.
31:55 The person we bought the house from,
31:58 the man died in the house before we bought it,
32:02 and some people heard that they said,
32:04 don't you think that's creepy?
32:05 I said, "No, not at all.
32:06 Doesn't bother me one bit."
32:08 We lived in that house, 22 years
32:09 we loved it, we miss it.
32:11 Never got haunted.
32:13 If we did get haunted, we weren't aware of it.
32:16 You know, once you know what the devil's tricks are,
32:19 I have people they say, something moved on my table.
32:24 It moved all by itself.
32:26 I said, "Yeah, so what?"
32:28 I say, "You curse those devils, they might haunt you,
32:31 if you ignore them, they get upset
32:32 and they leave you alone."
32:34 The Bible says, "Resist the devil
32:36 and he will flee from you."
32:38 You don't have to be afraid of things like that.
32:41 When you're with Christ,
32:42 the Bible says greater is He that is in you.
32:45 Who's stronger, Jesus or the devil?
32:47 Who's stronger, Jesus' angels or the devil's angels?
32:51 He will give His angels guard over you.
32:54 The Bible says,
32:55 "The angel of the Lord encamps round about you."
32:58 Jesus said, "They are angels,"
33:00 speaking of children, "they are angels,
33:01 do behold the face of my Father in heaven."
33:04 You got good angels around you.
33:05 And so if you ever seen anything spooky,
33:07 just tell your good angels,
33:08 can you please take care of these guys for me?
33:10 These bad angels are trying to scare me.
33:12 You don't have to be afraid.
33:15 Bible says when a person dies, Job 7:10,
33:19 He, person who dies,
33:20 "Will never return to his house,
33:23 nor will his place know him anymore."
33:25 When they're dead,
33:26 they're not going back to haunt their house
33:28 and what exactly would be the purpose
33:29 of haunting your house?
33:32 Why would someone want to do that?
33:35 Well, you know, I'm bored.
33:37 So until the resurrection,
33:38 I'm going to scare everybody who moves into my house.
33:41 Why would they do that?
33:43 Now people they say, I am in astrology.
33:46 I'm gonna look at the stars
33:47 and based on when you're born and what the stars are doing,
33:50 your destiny is there.
33:52 My mother used to write songs about astrology,
33:56 and I knew a lot of her friends that were astrologers
33:59 and I asked him, I said, "Do you believe this stuff?"
34:01 They said," No."
34:02 They said, "We write astrology,
34:04 astrology things for the newspaper,
34:05 we don't even believe it, but they pay us."
34:09 So it's nonsense.
34:10 I know people that used to go to sA(C)ances,
34:13 and they said, "Yes we,
34:14 we felt the curtains move and we felt the spirit
34:17 and we saw a mist."
34:19 And usually the people who are the mediums
34:21 are doing that to trick people.
34:23 You know what it says in the Bible?
34:24 Leviticus 20:27,
34:26 "A man or a woman who has a familiar spirit,"
34:30 someone who says they can talk to the dead,
34:33 "who is a wizard, also says this about witches
34:36 and anyone in the occult shall be put to death,
34:39 because they were involved in diabolical worship."
34:43 You can read a story in the Bible about King Saul.
34:46 He was a good king, started out a good king
34:49 but then he turned away from the Lord
34:51 and in the end, he went and talked to a witch
34:54 and because he talked to a witch
34:55 the Spirit of God withdrew from him,
34:57 the next day he killed himself.
34:59 Do not dabble in astrology, watching TV programs
35:03 that talk about talking to the dead and zombies.
35:06 Why would a Christian wants that stuff?
35:08 Huh?
35:09 Playing video games about spirits and ghosts?
35:12 Ha, you got real quiet.
35:15 Christians shouldn't have anything to do with that.
35:17 Can I have an amen out there somewhere?
35:19 Amen.
35:20 Yeah, the Bible says have nothing to do
35:23 with the unfruitful works of darkness,
35:26 but rather reprove them.
35:29 What does the Bible say death is like?
35:32 We read in John 11,
35:34 Jesus had a friend, good friend,
35:36 he had a friend, Martha, Mary, and Lazarus
35:41 were three siblings
35:43 and he would stay in their house in Bethany.
35:45 And one day Lazarus got sick and he was very sick,
35:49 so Mary and Martha sent a message to Jesus
35:52 and they said,
35:53 "Can you please come and heal Lazarus?
35:56 He's sick."
35:57 Well, Jesus knew what He was going to do.
35:59 So He didn't come right away.
36:00 And while Jesus was gone up in Galilee, Lazarus died.
36:05 Finally, Jesus told the apostles,
36:09 they said, "Our friend Lazarus sleeps,
36:12 but I go that I might wake him up."
36:14 All the disciples heard the Lazarus was sick
36:15 and you know, they believe,
36:17 well, if you sleep, you're resting.
36:18 That's good.
36:19 Maybe his fever will subside, you'll get better
36:21 and that's wonderful.
36:22 And Jesus said to them, no, no,
36:23 when I said Lazarus is sleeping,
36:25 I'm going to wake him up.
36:26 He said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
36:30 What does that mean?
36:32 He's dead.
36:33 As my grandpa used to say, deader than a doornail.
36:36 Lazarus was not breathing,
36:40 most certainly dead.
36:43 There's no life.
36:44 He was already beginning to decompose.
36:47 Now when he said this, he comes to the grave and...
36:53 Oh, you know, I might need a couple of friends here.
36:58 I might want to help illustrate this.
37:00 So have you been up?
37:02 Yeah, come on up.
37:05 I need two girls and one boy.
37:06 I need two Marthas and a Lazarus here.
37:11 You think you can be Lazarus?
37:13 All right, come on up.
37:14 You gotta be Mary and Martha.
37:16 Come on up, hurry.
37:17 Right, come on.
37:20 All right, girls, I need you to look in the treasure chest
37:23 and find some bandages.
37:25 You go find something that tells time in there.
37:27 Wave at the camera when you look in the treasure chest.
37:30 You wave.
37:31 Yep, there you go, all right.
37:33 Now share one of those wraps of bandages with...
37:37 All right, you are Martha, you are Mary.
37:39 What's your real name?
37:40 Shaya.
37:41 All right, we'll call you Mary and your real name?
37:43 Abigail. Abigail, and you are?
37:44 Edith. You are Lazarus.
37:46 Okay. All right.
37:47 Hang on to that for a second now.
37:49 After Lazarus died, his sisters had to wrap him up.
37:52 I'll give you this in just a second, okay?
37:54 So you guys gotta wrap him up here
37:56 'cause you're gonna bury him.
37:58 All right, you know,
37:59 you just start like make a mummy out of him,
38:01 I know you've never met before, but don't be afraid.
38:03 Let's, I'll get you started.
38:04 Put your hands at your side, you're dead.
38:06 Okay, here we go.
38:08 You're talking way too much for a person that's dead.
38:11 So here we go, you got to get his legs.
38:15 Yeah, now don't try and walk, this won't end well.
38:20 He's gonna start stinking if you don't hurry up.
38:25 There we go.
38:26 Keep going here, do you want to hand it to me?
38:30 Mary is beating Martha.
38:32 Let's go.
38:33 Well, I you know,
38:35 I'm not gonna put him in a pyramid
38:36 so you don't have to, like totally,
38:40 is it getting hard to breathe Lazarus?
38:42 No, not yet. Okay.
38:44 All right.
38:45 Let's suppose that's gonna be good for now.
38:47 All right, you got them. Okay.
38:50 Do you ever get tired in church?
38:52 Come on sometimes.
38:54 Have you ever fallen asleep in church?
38:55 Never. Never?
38:56 Never. Well, you're gonna now.
38:58 All right, so let me help you.
39:03 Just now before you go to sleep,
39:06 can you tell time, Lazarus?
39:09 What time does that say?
39:11 It says 7:32.
39:14 7:32, okay, go sleep.
39:18 All right, just stay there.
39:20 Don't open your eyes.
39:21 You all watch him. Make sure he doesn't cheat.
39:23 Hang on here.
39:26 All right.
39:28 Lazarus awake.
39:31 What time is it now?
39:33 It's 10:32.
39:35 So you've been asleep three hours.
39:38 How did it feel?
39:41 You get a little rest.
39:43 We were all, we've been waiting for you to wake up.
39:44 We've been here three hours waiting for you to wake up
39:47 and you just woke up.
39:50 All right, girls you want to help him up?
39:51 The Bible says that after Jesus rose him,
39:54 He told them loose him.
39:56 So you got to lose him.
39:57 You know that would be fun as if you both grab one
39:58 and pull real fast and see what happens.
40:00 See if he just kind of rolls out.
40:02 Rolls out.
40:03 Here, let's stand him up, that will be easier.
40:05 No.
40:07 Oh, he's alive.
40:09 You say, "Praise the Lord."
40:10 Let's give him a hand. Okay.
40:14 You know, the most important decision
40:15 a young person can make
40:17 is that decision to follow Jesus
40:19 and begin that amazing adventure to eternity.
40:22 That's why we're so excited to tell you
40:23 about the new Amazing Adventure programs

41:09 Call the number on your screen
41:10 or contact us at afbookstore.com.
41:15 The Bible calls death a sleep.
41:17 It's a dreamless sleep.
41:20 So when Lazarus died, how long was he dead?
41:23 Four days. How long did it feel for him?
41:27 Minutes.
41:28 He died from a fever
41:30 and next thing you knew he's in a tomb,
41:31 he's all wrapped up and Jesus is saying let him go.
41:35 You know, Lazarus never commented
41:38 on experiencing anything in death.
41:41 Think about this, if you die and went right to hell,
41:43 or if you die and went right to heaven,
41:46 first of all, why would God send someone to hell
41:48 right after they die before a judgment?
41:51 And wouldn't that be mean if Lazarus died,
41:53 he went right to heaven.
41:54 He's up in heaven.
41:56 He's singing with the angels. He's getting ready.
41:57 He's reaching out for the tree of life
41:59 and just before he gets to the Tree of Life,
42:01 boom, he's back on earth
42:02 and he's in the grave clothes again as you want.
42:05 Well, thanks, Jesus.
42:07 That wouldn't be a nice thing to do to your friend.
42:10 No, Lazarus didn't have any comment
42:13 because the living know they'll die,
42:14 the dead know nothing.
42:17 He said, "Our friend Lazarus is asleep."
42:21 Then he said, "Lazarus come forth,
42:23 and he who had died came out bound hand
42:26 and foot with grave clothes,
42:27 and they set him free."
42:29 Is there anyone in heaven now?
42:33 Yes, there are.
42:35 Bible says that when Jesus died,
42:37 that there was a great earthquake
42:39 and many of the graves were open,
42:41 not all but around Jerusalem,
42:42 many graves were open
42:44 and the bodies of the saints
42:45 who had fallen asleep were raised.
42:47 It might have been Isaiah or Jeremiah
42:50 or some of the prophets,
42:52 not David, we already learnt that.
42:54 There's a small resurrection.
42:56 Bible tells us Moses and Elijah are in heaven
42:58 and Enoch is in heaven.
43:00 There are some that are there, but not very many.
43:04 Next question, if nobody's in heaven now
43:07 what about the other place?
43:09 Is anybody in Hellfire now?
43:13 Scriptures say, Job 21:30,"
43:16 For the wicked are reserved for the day of doom.
43:20 They will be brought on for the day of wrath."
43:24 They are waiting in the grave.
43:26 You can read in Revelation 20:5,
43:29 "The rest of the dead do not live again
43:31 until the thousand years are over."
43:34 When Jesus comes, the dead in Christ rise,
43:37 the rest of the dead,
43:39 they don't live again until the millennium goes by.
43:42 They stay in their graves.
43:45 They've not even been judged yet.
43:47 They're sleeping a dreamless sleep.
43:50 Now this is important to know
43:52 because I know people that believe
43:53 that when you die,
43:56 if you're good, you go to heaven right away
43:58 and if you're bad you go to hell,
44:00 and you burn forever and ever.
44:01 Have you heard that? Some people believe that.
44:04 I know this mother, she had a son that died,
44:08 son was not a Christian, he died drinking,
44:10 he drove into a tree, he was living the lost life
44:13 and a preacher told her, he's burning in hell now.
44:17 And that poor woman nearly went insane
44:20 thinking that every day she was walking around,
44:23 her son was blistering in the flames.
44:26 But that's so sad
44:27 because that's not what the Bible teaches,
44:30 and yet a lot of people think that's what God does.
44:33 When are the wicked judged?
44:35 Let's read in the Bible.
44:37 At the end of the 1000 years, John 21:2,
44:40 "Then I, John, saw the Holy City."
44:44 See, when Jesus comes,
44:45 we go up to meet Him in the air.
44:46 We're talking about that tomorrow night.
44:49 And then at the end of the 1000 years,
44:51 the New Jerusalem comes down from heaven,
44:53 comes to the earth.
44:55 Jesus has a great judgment day, when He's here on earth,
44:59 He raises all the wicked who have ever lived.
45:02 This is great judgment,
45:03 you read about it in Revelation 20:11.
45:06 You know, the Bible tells us all will stand
45:08 before the judgment seat of God.
45:11 The Lord has video and audio of everything
45:16 we have ever said, done, or thought.
45:19 God knows everything, will give an account,
45:20 that's why we need Jesus to wash away all of our sins
45:24 and give us a new beginning.
45:26 "Great white throne and him who sat on it,
45:28 from whom face the earth and the heaven fled away.
45:33 And I saw the dead, small and great,
45:35 standing before God, and the books were open
45:39 and another book, which was open,
45:41 which is the book of life."
45:43 Your name, you want in that book.
45:46 "And the dead were judged,"
45:48 you had the Book of Records, The Book of Life,
45:50 "the dead were judged according to" what?
45:54 "Their works."
45:56 We are saved by faith,
45:57 but we're judged according to our works,
45:58 'cause our works show if we were saved by faith.
46:02 "And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast,"
46:07 what's it say?
46:09 "Into the lake of fire."
46:10 So is there a place the Bible calls Hellfire?
46:14 There is a lake of fire.
46:15 Is it burning now?
46:18 Is anyone in there now?
46:20 No.
46:21 How long will they burn?
46:26 No, they don't burn 1000 years.
46:28 That'd be terrible.
46:30 Any of you ever burned your finger?
46:33 How'd you like to do that?
46:35 Burn your finger for 60 seconds.
46:38 I'll tell you a story.
46:39 This is important point.
46:41 I know you're going to think this is rough,
46:42 but I used to live in the mountains in the cave.
46:45 I had a pet cat named Stranger.
46:47 I fed, she just showed up one day
46:49 so I called him a stranger
46:50 and he lived with me for about a year.
46:52 And I would feed Stranger a little bit,
46:54 but I liked him to feed himself
46:55 because he would catch the little lizards.
46:57 I didn't like that he caught the lizards,
46:59 they're probably good because they eat the bugs
47:01 but he catch the mice
47:03 and they used to get into my food.
47:06 He was like a tiger sometimes he catch a squirrel
47:09 and there would be a vicious fight
47:11 between Stranger and this big squirrel.
47:14 And then he always wanted to bring it up
47:16 and drop it on my sleeping bag as a prize.
47:19 But one day I was cooking dinner one evening
47:24 and Stranger caught a mouse
47:26 and you know cats are a little bit sadistic.
47:28 You know what that means?
47:30 Sadistic means they like to watch things suffer.
47:32 Now a dog, if he catches a mouse,
47:33 he swallows it with one gulp,
47:37 dog, they don't even chew and they're happy
47:39 and they're on their way.
47:40 Cat, no, no, no, no,
47:41 cat catches a mouse and he's got it there.
47:43 He's going, look what I got?
47:46 Just try and get away.
47:50 They throw it up in the air and they bat it
47:51 and they go catch it again.
47:54 And they kind of torture the poor things
47:55 and my cat caught this cute little kangaroo mouse.
47:59 They're kind of cute, you know, a little round body big feet
48:01 and they kind of hopping.
48:03 And you know I hated to see the thing suffer
48:05 but you know the cat had to eat so I was making my dinner,
48:10 and Stranger was getting ready for his dinner.
48:13 He's playing with a little rat,
48:14 but the poor thing was so dazed that it hopped to get away
48:18 and in its desperation to get away from the Stranger,
48:21 it hopped into my campfire.
48:27 And I felt so bad
48:28 because there's nothing I could do.
48:30 He just fell right off in the hot coals
48:32 and I saw the poor thing, squeak and writhe,
48:35 I thought, oh, just like you, oh,
48:38 the old poor little mouse is suffering.
48:41 Now your heart, didn't you hurt to hear?
48:43 Doesn't that bother you to think
48:45 a little mouse burning?
48:47 Do you think God would burn His children forever and ever?
48:50 You wouldn't do it to your dog.
48:53 You wouldn't do it to a mouse.
48:55 And yet there are churches full of people
48:58 who think that God is gonna take
49:00 bad children that died lost,
49:03 once they reach the age of accountability and they die,
49:07 and He's going to put them
49:08 in blistering sulfur and brimstone,
49:10 and they're going to burn there forever and ever and ever.
49:13 Think about how terrible that is.
49:14 It's not what the Bible teaches.
49:17 Thank God. Amen?
49:19 God is not gonna have a universe
49:21 where people are gonna be tortured through eternity
49:23 for the sins of one lifetime.
49:25 That is why you call a doctrine of devils.
49:28 What does the Bible say?
49:29 "The wicked will perish into smoke."
49:33 They'll do what?
49:35 "They will consume away."
49:37 All right, I need a brave volunteer.
49:41 I'm gonna go around,
49:43 I sometimes neglect the edges here.
49:45 And so last time I had two girls and a boy
49:47 and so I said, no, don't raise your hands
49:49 if you've had your hands up before.
49:52 You all right, you got a friend who's advocating for you
49:54 so you can come on, okay.
49:56 When you're advocating for you to know...
49:57 Well, no, I just needed one.
49:59 Sorry guys sit down.
50:00 Just one sorry, but don't worry,
50:01 no we're not done yet.
50:03 All right.
50:09 Let's see here.
50:15 Are you strong enough to do that if you use both hands?
50:18 You don't know. I appreciate your honesty.
50:21 But let's put your jacket down here
50:22 'cause we don't want that to go up in flames.
50:25 Try use both hands, see if you can,
50:26 just click the handle here clicks in,
50:29 let me show you how it works.
50:31 Oh, yeah, I see. Squeeze real hard.
50:33 No you just, with your hands like a grip here.
50:35 Give me a hand, give me both hands.
50:37 You go.
50:39 You can do that?
50:41 All right, you can let go now.
50:43 See if you can do it on your own now.
50:45 You can.
50:46 I know you could, all right come on back here.
50:48 What's your name?
50:49 Elliot. Elliot.
50:51 All right, are sinners gonna be immortalized.
50:55 What do you think?
50:57 What did we just read?
50:58 The wicked shall perish in the smoke,
51:00 they will vanish away.
51:02 Let's see, don't you, you just,
51:04 you let me bring the paper to you.
51:05 Okay, go ahead.
51:07 Let's see if you can get it going.
51:09 All right.
51:10 How is this going to happen?
51:11 Are they're gonna burn forever?
51:23 There's no ashes.
51:25 My hair all still there?
51:28 Thank you very much.
51:29 He did a good job, huh.
51:31 Brave man.
51:39 How much was left?
51:42 Nothing was left.
51:43 The Bible says, notice this in Malachi 4:1,
51:48 "The day comes that will burn as an oven,
51:51 and all that do wickedly, will be stubble."
51:55 You know in California we have rice fields
51:57 and they burn the rice, after they harvest the rice,
52:00 they burn the stubble so that it just burns it down,
52:03 they can plow it up and it's all gone
52:05 is what the Bible is saying.
52:07 Bible says the day will come that will burn us in oven.
52:10 Now how is God going to destroy the wicked?
52:14 This is actually picture I've been there years ago,
52:16 I was 16 years old.
52:17 So that's a long time ago.
52:19 I went to the ancient city of Pompei,
52:22 Volcano Mount Vesuvius blew up,
52:24 and it was a wicked Roman,
52:25 it was like Las Vegas back then,
52:27 it was a Roman Party City,
52:29 we can tell from the excavations,
52:31 they lived a pretty wild life,
52:33 and it was like, fire fell down upon them.
52:36 They're hot ash and people were all sort of frozen in position,
52:39 and they haven't even excavated at all yet.
52:42 But whenever I think of Sodom and Gomorrah,
52:44 I think of this,
52:45 it says in Malachi Chapter 4,
52:47 "You will tread down the wicked,
52:49 for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet."
52:52 Now here's the question.
52:54 Are Sodom and Gomorrah still burning today?
52:57 No.
52:58 They're set forth as an example
53:00 of what is going to happen to the wicked.
53:01 They were consumed, the cities were never rebuilt.
53:04 The people died and they are dead and gone.
53:07 It says in Revelation 20:14, "This is the second death."
53:13 What was the first lie there on earth?
53:17 And how do we know it was a lie?
53:19 What did the devil tell Eve?
53:22 "The serpent said unto the woman,
53:23 eat from the forbidden tree,
53:26 you will not surely," what?
53:30 "Die." Said you're not gonna die.
53:31 What did God say what happened
53:33 if they ate the forbidden fruit?
53:35 He said, "You'll die."
53:36 The devil said, "You won't die."
53:37 See what the devil says
53:39 is you'll live forever in heaven
53:40 or you'll live forever in hell, but you're immortal.
53:43 But are people immortal?
53:45 Bible says, "God and God only has immortality."
53:48 What does the Bible say about sinners?
53:50 The soul who sins what will happen?
53:54 You got two choices.
53:55 You remember John 3:16, "For God so loved the world,
54:00 He gave His only begotten Son,
54:02 that whoever believes in Him might not perish, means die,
54:06 but have...?"
54:08 You got two choices?
54:09 Moses said, "I set before you this day,
54:12 life and good and blessing, death and evil and cursing."
54:15 You've got two choices, life and death.
54:17 It's not life in heaven and life in hell.
54:21 So the wicked don't burn forever.
54:23 They perish.
54:25 Bible tells us only God has immortality.
54:29 When will the dead live again?
54:32 Bible tells us, you read in 1 Thessalonians 4:16,
54:36 "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven
54:38 with a shout,
54:39 with the voice of the archangel,
54:41 with the trump of God,
54:43 and the dead in Christ will rise first."
54:47 Then it says, "We who are alive."
54:48 You know, most people through history have died.
54:51 There's going to be a generation of people alive
54:54 when Jesus comes that will never have to die.
54:57 Like Enoch, who's the other one that didn't die?
55:00 Elijah.
55:02 There, the Bible says Enoch was the seventh from Adam.
55:06 There'll be people who I think are living
55:07 on the verge of the seventh millennium
55:09 who will not die, they will be translated.
55:11 I hope some of you young people are in that category.
55:14 We don't need to be afraid of dying,
55:16 because we'll get glorified bodies,
55:18 but those of us who are alive and remain will be changed.
55:21 In a moment you'll get your glorified body,
55:23 God will put you who you are in there,
55:26 in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump,
55:29 for the trumpet will sound
55:30 and the dead will be raised incorruptible,
55:32 that means a body that never gets old or die or sick.
55:35 And this mortal would put on immortality.
55:39 Bible promises, he that has the son has life.
55:43 He that does not have the son does not have life.
55:45 If you've got Jesus, you may die
55:49 but as it says in 1 Corinthians,
55:50 you don't need to be afraid.
55:52 Are you glad that God has promised
55:54 to resurrect from the dead
55:56 those who love Him when Jesus comes?
55:58 Do Christians die?
56:00 Christians never really die.
56:02 They go to sleep
56:03 and when Jesus comes, they wake up.
56:05 Amen?
56:07 The Bible says that when you accept Christ,
56:09 you get eternal life.
56:10 When do you get eternal life?
56:11 When Jesus comes back or right now?
56:13 The gift of eternal life
56:15 is being offered to you right now
56:17 and the devil can't take it away.
56:19 If you surrender your life to Jesus,
56:21 you continue following Him, He will be with you,
56:24 you don't have to be afraid of death.
56:25 You don't have to be afraid of hell.
56:27 You just walk with Jesus day by day,
56:29 and He will finish the work He started in your life.
56:31 Don't you want that life?
