00:02 male announcer: This presentation is brought to you
00:03 by the friends of the Amazing Facts ministry.
00:09 Doug Batchelor: It was first called Salem, a small town
00:11 ruled by a king named Melchizedek about 1900 BC.
00:16 Today, Jerusalem is believed to be one of the most hotly
00:20 contested pieces of real estate in the world.
00:23 It's considered a holy place by Jews, Catholics,
00:26 Protestants, Muslims, and others.
00:29 The city has been destroyed through war
00:31 and rebuilt 27 times.
00:34 The amazing irony is that the word "Jerusalem,"
00:37 pronounced Jeru-Shalom, means city of peace.
00:42 You know, the Bible teaches that God's people are on a pilgrimage
00:45 following Jesus to the new Jerusalem.
00:48 You can read in Hebrews 11:16, "But now they desire
00:52 a better country, that is, a heavenly country.
00:55 Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God,
00:58 because He has prepared for them a city."
01:01 Today, we're going to do something special.
01:03 We're going to join some friends in old Jerusalem and hear
01:06 a message about walking with Jesus to the new Jerusalem.
01:14 Doug: I'm very thankful to be here with you.
01:17 And I appreciate so much all the work and preparation our friends
01:21 from the TBN studios have done here in Jerusalem.
01:24 And we praise God for this beautiful location, where we can
01:28 just absorb the blessings of being here in the Promised Land.
01:32 How many of you have never been in Jerusalem until this trip?
01:36 Quite a few, isn't this exciting?
01:39 One of my favorite stories is in this message we call
01:42 "Back to Jerusalem."
01:44 I thought that would be appropriate.
01:46 And you only find it in one gospel.
01:47 It's in the Gospel of Luke chapter 24, last chapter.
01:51 And it begins in verse 13.
01:53 Now, just to give you the background, it takes place
01:56 after that very dreadful and sad afternoon
02:01 where Jesus is crucified.
02:03 Now, it's good news for you and I, but for the disciples,
02:05 it was absolute devastation because they had
02:08 a whole different picture of what the Messiah
02:10 was going to do.
02:12 And when they saw Jesus crucified and dead, and witness
02:15 Him being laid in a tomb, all their hopes
02:18 were completely dashed.
02:20 And after spending the Sabbath together in Jerusalem, some of
02:26 the disciples began to migrate back to their hometowns.
02:30 And that's where we pick up our story.
02:32 Luke chapter 24, verse 13, "Now, two of them were traveling
02:36 that same day to a village called Emmaus,
02:39 which is about seven miles from Jerusalem.
02:42 And they talked together of these things that had happened.
02:45 And it was, while they conversed and reasoned,
02:48 that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.
02:52 But their eyes were restrained, that they did not know Him."
02:56 Now, as they're walking down the road, they're suddenly joined
03:00 by a stranger that comes alongside of them.
03:03 And that wasn't uncommon, they used to like to travel together
03:06 for safety back then.
03:07 So, they're commiserating with each other
03:09 about the terrible thing that had happened.
03:12 And as they're going, He just kind of walks alongside.
03:14 And He listens for a while, He doesn't reveal Who He is.
03:18 And then finally, He can't hold Himself back anymore,
03:20 and He says-- they don't know Who He is,
03:22 they don't recognize Him.
03:24 It says they should not know Him, their eyes were restrained.
03:29 And He said, "What kind of conversation is this you have
03:31 one with another as you walk and are sad?"
03:34 Now, what does that tell us right away?
03:36 Does Jesus want us to have a sad walk?
03:40 What does the word "gospel" mean?
03:43 Good news.
03:45 And what does the word "good news" mean?
03:47 Something that's happy, something that's joyful.
03:49 Christians ought to be the happiest people
03:51 in the world, right?
03:53 And so, He basically chastises them and says, "What kind of
03:57 conversation is this as you walk and are sad?"
03:59 Now, don't miss this important point.
04:02 There's a connection between their not knowing Him
04:06 and their being sad.
04:08 It says they did not know Him and they were sad.
04:11 So, at the end of the story, you're going to see that all
04:13 changes, and you'll figure out what it is that changes it.
04:16 So, they're walking along and He says, "What is this?"
04:19 And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, he's mentioned also
04:21 in the book of Acts, "He answered and he said to Him,
04:25 'Are you only a stranger in Jerusalem?'"
04:27 What a thing to say to Jesus.
04:29 "'And have you not known the things that are happened
04:31 there in these days?'
04:33 And He said, 'What things?'"
04:35 Now, does God ask questions because He doesn't know,
04:37 or does He ask questions 'cause He wants us to think?
04:40 And sometimes He draws us out with our own--His own questions.
04:43 He said to Adam, "Where are you?"
04:45 Well, He knew where Adam was.
04:46 He said to the disciples, "What were you arguing about on your
04:49 way to the upper room?"
04:51 He knew what they were arguing about,
04:53 which of them was greatest.
04:55 And so, Cleopas says, "Are You only a stranger in Jerusalem?"
04:59 You know, Jesus was born in Bethlehem, not far away.
05:03 And He was dedicated in Jerusalem.
05:06 He came 12 years old and taught and asked questions
05:09 in the temple.
05:11 He had been teaching and preaching
05:13 for 3 1/2 years in Jerusalem.
05:15 And so, it was a strange thing to ask Him.
05:19 And He says, "What things?"
05:21 They said, "Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, Who was a prophet
05:24 mighty in deed and word before God and all the people.
05:27 And how the chief priests and all of our rulers delivered Him
05:30 to be condemned to death, and crucified Him.
05:33 But we were hoping that He would be the one
05:36 that would deliver Israel."
05:38 Now, what does that mean when they say, "We were hoping"?
05:40 That's past tense, isn't it?
05:42 What had happened to their hope?
05:45 It had been destroyed.
05:48 "And finally Jesus said to them, 'O fools and slow of heart
05:52 to believe that all the prophets have spoken!
05:54 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things
05:57 and entered into His glory?'"
05:59 And notice this, "Beginning at Moses and all the prophets,
06:04 He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures
06:07 the things concerning Himself."
06:09 Now, how much of the Bible was written at that point?
06:14 Just the Old Testament.
06:16 And so, what does He do?
06:18 He expounds in all the Scriptures, speaking of
06:20 the Old Testament Scriptures, things concerning Himself.
06:23 What are the Scriptures talking about?
06:26 The Old Testament is principally pointing us to Jesus.
06:31 When you read in the Bible about Adam, on the sixth day he goes
06:37 to sleep, His side is opened up, and a wife is born.
06:42 Jesus on the sixth day of the week, hung on the cross,
06:45 He said, "It is finished," He went to sleep, His side
06:48 was opened up, and the church was born.
06:52 When you read in the Bible about Abraham going up the mountain
06:55 with Isaac, and Isaac has the wood on his back, and Isaac
06:58 says, "Father, we've got the--we've got the wood
07:01 and we've got what it takes to make the fire,
07:03 but where is the lamb?"
07:05 And Abraham says, "My son, God will provide himself a lamb."
07:10 Isaac is the son of Abraham, and he's a willing sacrifice
07:14 when they get to the top of the mountain.
07:16 And just before the knife comes down, the angel stops Abraham
07:21 and directs him to a ram who's caught in the--
07:26 in a thicket by a crown of thorns.
07:28 It's a ram with a crown of thorns in a thorn bush.
07:32 He's a type of Christ.
07:34 When you read in the Bible about Samson, who is standing,
07:37 and the last act of his life, he says, "Let me die."
07:42 He stretches out his hands and he brings down
07:44 the temple of Dagon.
07:47 He lays down his life to save God's people from their enemies.
07:50 That is a type of Christ.
07:51 Matter of fact, you can go from cover to cover in the Bible, and
07:54 if you read about Gideon, if you read about any of the prophets,
07:58 if you read about Esther, they're all telling us
08:00 something about Jesus.
08:02 And so, the Bible is an amazing book.
08:05 It says He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things
08:07 concerning Himself.
08:09 Now, I'm going to do something I don't often do.
08:11 You name an Old Testament story.
08:15 You can call it out.
08:16 Name an Old Testament character.
08:19 Noah.
08:21 All right, the Bible tells us that Noah found grace,
08:23 we find grace through Jesus, that there was only one
08:26 way to be saved in the days of Noah.
08:28 You had to go through the door.
08:30 Jesus said, "I am the door."
08:31 And it was through going in the side of that ark
08:34 that they found life.
08:36 And the whole world was repopulated
08:38 or recreated through Noah.
08:40 It is through Christ the whole world is repopulated.
08:44 Jesus is in the story of Noah.
08:46 The gospel of salvation is in the story of Noah.
08:49 They are saved through grace.
08:50 Noah found grace.
08:53 I want to give you a chance for more stories, name another one.
08:56 Solomon.
08:58 Solomon is the son of David.
08:59 Jesus is the Son of David.
09:01 Solomon is the king of peace.
09:03 Jesus is the son of peace.
09:04 Solomon is the wisest of those who had ever lived.
09:06 Jesus is the wisest.
09:08 Solomon is the richest, Jesus is the richest.
09:11 Solomon was the king of Jerusalem in its highest glory.
09:14 Jesus is the king of the new Jerusalem in the ultimate glory.
09:18 And you can go on and on and find, you know,
09:22 the examples of Jesus in the story of Solomon.
09:24 There was a battle before Solomon was king.
09:27 Someone tried to take the throne from him.
09:29 And yeah, in the same way there's a battle trying
09:32 to take the throne from Jesus.
09:34 Someone else.
09:36 Daniel, all right, let's say--
09:38 I heard Daniel, young man over here.
09:40 Daniel was never married.
09:42 I won't go into the details, but trust me, he was never married.
09:46 And the Bible tells us that spies followed Daniel around to
09:51 find something wrong with him because the king thought
09:53 to set him over the whole realm.
09:55 And they tried to find some occasion.
09:57 Did spies follow Jesus around?
09:59 The Bible tells us that finally they made a law, they brought
10:03 an accusation against Daniel, saying that he was breaking
10:06 the law of the king.
10:07 It was a false accusation.
10:09 Daniel was willing to die rather than deny
10:11 his relationship with God.
10:13 Jesus, more than anything He said, "Not My will,
10:16 Thy will be done."
10:17 God was first.
10:19 Daniel prayed, and then he went to the lion's den.
10:22 Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane, which you can see
10:24 not too far away over there on the Mount of Olives.
10:29 Jesus prayed there, and then He went to the cross.
10:32 They took Jesus from the cross, and they put Him in a tomb,
10:34 and they sealed it with a government seal.
10:37 But the devil couldn't keep Him there.
10:39 Daniel was placed in a tomb, in a hole in the ground full of
10:42 lions, a stone was placed over the mouth, a government seal.
10:48 But Jesus came out alive.
10:50 And the lions, the devil is like a roaring lion, going around
10:53 seeking whom he might devour.
10:55 The lion could not keep Daniel.
10:57 The devil could not keep Jesus, amen?
11:00 I heard some other Bible stories.
11:03 Oh, you're getting excited now.
11:05 Joseph I heard, okay.
11:06 Now I get to pick the ones I like.
11:10 Joseph, oh.
11:12 It's like Paul says, "What shall I more say?"
11:15 For time would fail me to tell you of Joseph.
11:18 Here you have the beloved son of an ancient patriarch.
11:24 God is called the ancient of days.
11:26 And he gives him a special robe.
11:30 The brothers, he comes seeking their welfare.
11:32 The brothers are missing, he comes to seek his lost brothers
11:35 sent by the father.
11:37 Jesus is sent by the Father to come and seek and save the lost.
11:41 They take him, they throw him in a pit.
11:44 Jesus is put in a tomb.
11:46 They sell him as a slave for silver.
11:49 Now, it's true Joseph was sold for 20 pieces of silver
11:52 and Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
11:54 And you might be thinking, "Pastor Doug, that doesn't fit."
11:56 But you got to keep in mind over 1,000 years go by and there's
11:59 inflation in the price of a slave between the time of Joseph
12:03 and the time of Judas.
12:05 And He goes down to Egypt.
12:07 Did Jesus also go down, spend some time in Egypt?
12:12 And He's betrayed by one of the 12.
12:16 They think it was Simeon that was the ringleader
12:18 and the one that wanted to kill Joseph.
12:21 His brothers finally come seeking bread from him,
12:25 but He doesn't reveal Himself to them.
12:28 He speaks through a translator even though He understands
12:30 everything they're saying 'cause He speaks
12:32 perfect Hebrew, Aramaic.
12:34 They don't know that He's hearing everything.
12:36 They don't recognize Him.
12:38 The Bible says, "Jesus came unto His own,
12:40 and His own received Him not."
12:41 So often we don't recognize Him.
12:43 In the story of Emmaus, He's walking right with
12:45 His disciples, and they don't know Him.
12:48 Doug: Don't go anywhere, friends.
12:50 We'll be back in just a moment with the rest
12:52 of today's presentation.
12:53 No, the Bible never says that Eve ate an apple, nor does it
12:57 say that three wise men came to see Jesus in the manger.
13:02 Neither does the Bible say that God made a devil.
13:05 So, how well do you know your Bible?
13:08 And what does it really say about heaven and hell,
13:11 the origin of the devil, and the Second Coming of Jesus?"
13:14 There are so many common misunderstandings

13:55 Let's return now to today's presentation and learn
13:58 some more amazing facts from the Word of God.
14:03 Doug: Here he was, he came unto them as--
14:06 he was their brother, seeking them.
14:08 They thought he was just a shepherd.
14:10 At the end of the story of Joseph, he is the king.
14:12 He's second only to the king.
14:14 They didn't know who he was.
14:16 Jesus is second to the Father.
14:17 They didn't know Who He was.
14:19 He indeed is one with God as you know, but I mean,
14:22 He makes Himself subjected to the Father.
14:26 Joseph reveals himself to his brothers at a feast.
14:29 He sits down with 12.
14:31 He puts them all out.
14:33 There's a cup in the story that is a test.
14:37 And Jesus says, "Take this cup."
14:39 And it talks about bread at that dinner.
14:41 Jesus says, "There's a cup and there's bread."
14:44 And you know, the first thing that Joseph says when he
14:46 finally--he tests them and he puts his cup in Benjamin's sack,
14:52 and then he has his soldiers arrest him and say,
14:54 "Oh, Benjamin's got to be my slave."
14:56 And he wants to know, have you really learned anything?
14:58 Are you still the jealous, conniving brothers I knew,
15:00 you know, 25, 30 years ago?
15:03 Oh, by the way, when did Jesus begin His ministry?
15:06 He was baptized at 30 years of age.
15:08 When did Joseph go out to rule over Egypt?
15:10 At 30.
15:12 How old was David when he began to reign over Hebron
15:14 and then later Jerusalem?
15:16 Thirty.
15:18 They're types of Christ.
15:20 And so, Joseph says, "I'm going to arrest Benjamin.
15:22 You guys can go home."
15:24 And Judah says, "No, I've offered to lay myself down
15:26 for my brother."
15:28 He comes to Joseph and he pours out his heart.
15:29 He said, "Our father will be brokenhearted
15:32 if we don't come back with his son.
15:34 He loves his son so much.
15:36 And I've told my father that I will be a substitute."
15:40 Now, Judah's from what tribe?
15:42 That's a trick question.
15:44 Who's in Grant's tomb?
15:46 So, Judah of course is the tribe of Judah.
15:48 What tribe does Jesus come from?
15:50 Tribe of Judah.
15:52 Judah intercedes, he offers himself.
15:53 He says to Joseph, "Take me.
15:55 How can I go home and see my father brought down to the
15:58 grave, his grey hairs brought down to the grave with sorrow?"
16:02 Joseph can't take it anymore, he says, "These men have changed.
16:04 They've spent years regretting what they did to me."
16:07 And instead of getting even-- he has the power to get even.
16:10 He has--and they are guilty.
16:13 They were going to kill him, and then they sold him as a slave,
16:16 where he suffered.
16:17 He suffered in prison.
16:19 Was Jesus in prison?
16:20 He forgives them.
16:22 What does Jesus do for us?
16:24 He not only forgives Him, he feeds them with bread.
16:28 And he reveals himself to his brothers.
16:29 And I want to get to heaven, I want to see this DVD
16:31 when I get there.
16:33 I want to see the look on their faces when finally he says to
16:37 them--he begins to sob and weep after Joseph reveals himself.
16:42 And they're wondering what's happened to this ruler of Egypt
16:46 that's just having a meltdown.
16:48 And then he sobs out in their language for the first time,
16:51 "I am Joseph."
16:54 Doesn't Jesus say, "I am"?
16:56 And God says, "I am that I am."
16:59 Jesus says, "Before Abraham was, I am."
17:04 And the look on the brother's face when he says,
17:06 "I am Joseph," they must have thought,
17:09 "Oh, it's curtains now."
17:12 But he says, "Is my father yet alive?"
17:15 More than anything, he was brokenhearted
17:18 because of the separation with the father.
17:21 And I love the way the book Genesis ends, when you see
17:23 the father and the son finally meeting, and you hear the news
17:26 of Jacob when he gets the news Joseph lives.
17:30 And his heart stops, and he sees the wagon train full of gifts
17:34 coming from Egypt, then he believes.
17:36 When he saw the gifts, then he believed.
17:38 At Pentecost, people saw the gifts, and then they believe.
17:41 And so, you see the gospel story in Joseph?
17:44 So, Jesus Himself, He's walking down the road.
17:48 And as they're going down the road and He's opening
17:50 the Scriptures for them, they are just overwhelmed.
17:53 They're thinking, "'Wow, we've never heard anything like this.
17:56 You mean to tell us that everything that happened
17:58 was part of God's will?'
18:00 And they drew near the village where they were going,
18:02 and he indicated that he would have gone further.
18:05 But they constrained Him, they begged Him,
18:07 'Please abide with us.'"
18:09 Have you heard that song, "Abide with Me,
18:10 for fast falls the eventide"?
18:12 It's based on this verse.
18:14 It's toward evening and the day is far spent.
18:16 He would have kept going, but they asked Him in.
18:19 Do you know we need to ask Jesus, don't we?
18:21 Every day, we need to ask Him in.
18:23 He'll come, and He will not force Himself into your life.
18:26 "And as they come and sit at the table, He took the bread,
18:30 and He blessed it."
18:32 He said that prayer that Malcolm shared with us last night,
18:34 "B'ruch atah Adonai Eloheinu melech ha-olam
18:37 hamotzi lechem min ha-aretz."
18:40 That's I'm sure a corrupt English or American version,
18:42 but He broke the bread, He blessed it.
18:45 And it says when He broke the bread, their eyes were opened,
18:49 and they knew Him.
18:52 He was known in the breaking of bread.
18:55 How are we going to know that Jesus is Who He says He is?
18:58 It's in the breaking of bread.
19:01 And after He revealed Himself, then He disappears 'cause He
19:04 wants them to know Him from the bread, not because they see.
19:07 He says, "Blessed are those who believe without seeing."
19:10 They are so excited, they cannot constrain themself.
19:12 They've just walked seven miles downhill to--by the way,
19:15 notice they're going--they're back to Jerusalem down
19:19 to Emmaus, which means hot water.
19:21 They're going from the city of peace to hot water, and Jesus
19:24 saves them from hot water, and they go back
19:26 to the city of peace.
19:28 And it's night now, and they're going uphill.
19:30 But they are happier going uphill now in the dark with
19:35 Jesus, knowing He's alive, than they were going downhill
19:38 in the daytime, thinking they were alone.
19:41 And when they get to the upper room and they say,
19:43 "Jesus is alive, and He's appeared to Simon."
19:46 They can't wait to share these news with them, they said,
19:48 "He was known to us in the breaking of bread."
19:51 As they are talking about Jesus, He stood in their midst.
19:55 Christ said, "Where two or three are gathered in My name,
19:57 I am there among them."
19:59 Do you know as you talk to others about Jesus,
20:01 He draws near?
20:03 When did He draw near to them in the story of Emmaus?
20:05 As they were walking down the road talking about Jesus,
20:07 He drew near.
20:09 Now, they're in the upper room talking about Jesus,
20:11 and He draws near.
20:12 You notice Jesus will be with you when you're gathered
20:14 together with the other believers.
20:16 And He will be with you on the way as you're walking
20:19 down the road.
20:21 He wants you to be witness not only in the upper room, He wants
20:24 you to be a witness--they were sad walking down the road.
20:27 They weren't converting anybody walking down the road.
20:29 Jesus said, "What's this deal, you're so sad?"
20:33 Spurgeon used to teach preachers.
20:35 And He said to the preachers, He said, "When you preach,
20:39 your face ought to reflect the subject you're talking about."
20:44 Said, "If you're talking about heaven, your eyes ought
20:46 to sparkle as you talk about the golden streets, and your face
20:49 should shine as you talk about the pearly gates."
20:52 And He said, "If you happen to be preaching about hell,
20:53 just use your everyday, normal expression."
20:57 Unfortunately, sometimes Christians don't look like
21:02 the gospel is good news.
21:04 And we'd do a lot more to reach people if we were happier
21:07 about what we believe.
21:09 And then they couldn't believe it.
21:11 While they're talking about Jesus, He appears.
21:13 And they were terrified and frightened,
21:15 and thought they saw a ghost.
21:17 Now, I want you to think about this.
21:19 When they went down the road, He was with them, they saw Him.
21:23 When He went up the road, He was still with them.
21:26 You can read in the book "Desire of Ages,"
21:28 it says He was with them going up.
21:30 When they entered the upper room,
21:31 He entered invisible with them.
21:33 He didn't break through the door, He didn't go through
21:35 the walls like a ghost.
21:37 He went with them, they just didn't know He was with them
21:40 the whole time.
21:41 How often do we forget that Christ is with us
21:44 wherever we go?
21:46 And then sometimes we're afraid.
21:48 They were terrified, thought He was a spirit.
21:50 And He says, "No, look, I'm not--I'm not a ghost.
21:52 I'm a real and a living God."
21:54 He said, "Peace to you."
21:55 He doesn't want us sad, He wants us to have peace.
21:58 "And they were terrified and frightened.
22:00 He said, 'Why are you troubled?
22:02 And why do doubts arise in your heart?
22:04 Behold My hands and feet.
22:05 It is I Myself.
22:07 Handle Me and see, for the spirit doesn't have flesh
22:09 and bone as you see that I have.'
22:11 When He said these things, He showed them His hands and His
22:14 feet, while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled.
22:18 He said to them, 'Do you have any food to eat?'
22:20 They gave Him a piece of broiled fish and some honeycomb.
22:23 He took and ate in their presence."
22:25 Said, "Look, I'm not a ghost.
22:27 I'm still the same Jesus."
22:29 In the resurrection, we get glorified bodies,
22:31 but we're still real.
22:33 God made Adam and Eve with a purpose.
22:35 He put them in a garden to eat, and says we're going to plant
22:37 vineyards and eat the fruit of them in heaven.
22:39 We're going to build houses and inhabit them.
22:42 And it tells us it's very real.
22:44 We're not on clouds floating around as, like, chubby cherubs
22:47 shooting arrows to make people fall in love.
22:51 You know, we're doing real things in the new earth.
22:54 And then when He got done eating, He shared a meal
22:56 with them again.
22:58 He said, "These are the words that I spoke to you while I was
23:02 still with you, that all things must be fulfilled that are
23:05 written in the law of Moses," all the way from Moses.
23:08 You know, Moses says in Deuteronomy 18,
23:11 "The Lord your God will raise up a prophet unto you like me.
23:15 Him you shall hear."
23:17 Jesus is that prophet like Moses that was raised up.
23:19 He is the great lawgiver.
23:21 "All things written in the law of Moses and the prophets."
23:26 And you know, you go all the way from Moses to Malachi,
23:28 where it says, "Behold, I send you Elijah the prophet.
23:31 Remember ye the law of Moses, My servant."
23:33 It's all talking about Jesus all along the way.
23:37 Jesus is in every line.
23:38 Jesus is in Genesis, He's in Exodus, He's in Leviticus,
23:41 He's in Numbers, He's in Deuteronomy, in Joshua.
23:45 You know the story of Jericho.
23:47 I shared that in Jerusalem last week.
23:49 Joshua is the way you say Jesus in Hebrew, Yeshua.
23:53 He comes, he blows the trumpets, they shout, the city walls fall,
23:58 and only Rahab and her family are saved.
24:00 That's the story of salvation.
24:02 Jesus says, "I'm coming.
24:04 The Lord will descend from heaven with a shout,
24:06 the trump of God.
24:08 The dead in Christ will rise."
24:10 There's a great earthquake, and only those who are in the house
24:13 of Rahab with that red rope, it's a symbol of salvation,
24:15 are saved.
24:17 All these stories you read about in the Old Testament
24:19 are talking about Christ.
24:21 "All things that are written in the law of Moses and the
24:24 prophets and the psalms."
24:26 What did Jesus say in Psalm 22?
24:30 Hanging on the cross.
24:32 Everyone wonders, why did Jesus say, "My God, My God,
24:34 why have you forsaken Me?"
24:37 He was quoting from a messianic psalm.
24:40 And you read later in that very psalm, what does it say?
24:42 "They pierced My hands and My feet.
24:45 They gambled for My clothing," the very things that were
24:47 happening right there around the cross.
24:49 He's directing their attention.
24:51 He didn't get discouraged.
24:53 He's quoting like the priest from one of the psalms.
24:56 That was supposed to strengthen their faith.
24:58 It could be the reason the thief on the cross realized
25:00 it was Jesus.
25:01 "All things written in the prophets
25:03 and the psalms concerning Me."
25:05 And this is my last verse, "And He opened their understanding,
25:09 that they might comprehend the Scripture."
25:12 Every time Jesus met with them, it says He opened their
25:15 understanding, that they might comprehend the Scripture.
25:18 You know, they went from Jerusalem and they were sad.
25:21 They came back to Jerusalem knowing that Jesus was alive,
25:24 and they were happy.
25:25 We're here on earth.
25:27 Our object is to get to the new Jerusalem.
25:29 We need to know He's real, He's alive.
25:31 How did these disciples know Jesus?
25:34 He was known in the breaking of bread.
25:36 Jesus said, "This is eternal life," John chapter 17,
25:40 "that they might know Thee, the only true God,
25:43 and Jesus Christ Who You have sent."
