00:26 Well, you can see the children behind me,
00:28 you know, they start out young here
00:29 with the lollipops and the soda pops,
00:31 and I don't know, the chewing gum,
00:32 whatever it is, but a really bad diet.
00:35 By the time many of them are in their 20s,
00:38 they find that they've got diabetes
00:39 or the onset of diabetes.
00:42 But Canvasback Missions has seen that,
00:44 they started a wellness center here in Majuro,
00:47 they've set up teams that come to the neighborhoods,
00:50 they do monitoring,
00:51 they're finding a lot of people with big problems
00:54 and they're helping them out in many ways.
00:56 Going to have more
00:57 what they're doing in just a moment.
01:34 Pastor, we're down here on the north end of the island.
01:38 You got people coming in and out
01:40 and what what's happening here and why is it happening?
01:45 It's really important
01:47 for the young people need to know
01:49 that they got diseases like diabetes
01:52 and high blood pressure.
01:54 And as the most of the problem here in the Marshall Islands.
01:58 So our awareness under our program
02:01 is a good program
02:03 to go around the Majuro and help people to know.
02:08 Because most of the people they don't know,
02:10 they got diabetes, they got high blood pressure,
02:13 but that's because of this program
02:15 they know where they have now.
02:17 And they revert them
02:18 to a hospital to check with the doctor
02:21 and try to train them on like a medicine or a pill.
02:25 Diabetes, I understand
02:27 is the number one killer in this area
02:30 and really in the Marshall Islands.
02:34 So, what's happening here right now
02:37 and there's screening, I guess, going on behind you?
02:40 You know, they've been
02:41 screening people
02:43 since last Friday,
02:48 I think, and they have referred people
02:51 to like, to see doctor,
02:56 they can afford men and most of the people here,
03:00 they are happy to have joined this program,
03:04 especially all the core members
03:08 and a lot of service around.
03:10 And you can see all these people
03:12 they come from, they are all sick
03:17 and be part of this health screening.
03:19 Now, I also understand that
03:21 not only do you have health screening,
03:23 but the wellness center partner with you
03:26 and other organizations are teaching them
03:28 how to maybe grow
03:30 their own vegetables again,
03:32 and kind of get back to a more natural diet?
03:35 Yes, that's, you know, when is,
03:38 one of the organization here in the Marshall Islands
03:42 is helping people to,
03:43 you know, plan at least on our island.
03:47 You know, because our body needs
03:51 what we have to eat,
03:53 what is good to protect our health and,
03:56 you know, and when it's under
03:59 is one of the organization here
04:00 in the Marshall Islands helping people,
04:03 and we are so blessed to have them here.
04:06 I know that, you know,
04:09 wellness center would like to expand this program out
04:12 to other islands and other locations.
04:14 What would you say as a pastor who sees the need of people?
04:17 What would you say to them that
04:19 they should take this program
04:21 up to help their people in health?
04:23 So I'm just going to say to,
04:25 to the people here in the Marshall Island
04:26 that wellness program is,
04:31 it can help them to overcome their disease
04:36 and there's, you know,
04:39 common set they're like
04:43 super and high blood pressure.
04:47 Now you used the word overcome with this disease.
04:50 Would you unpack that a little bit more for me?
04:53 Like overcome is to like
04:57 when we eat,
04:59 like use the wheat and rice
05:01 and all that so we have to change
05:03 a little bit more of what we eat.
05:05 Is there anything you'd like to share with us today?
05:07 Anything else that's on your heart
05:08 about this program, about the love for the people
05:12 and what you'd like to see them do?
05:15 You know, all I can say is God is good.
05:19 God is good, because again, you know,
05:22 led wellness program to come here
05:25 and we invite people,
05:28 like here in the community to offer to come
05:32 and, you know, screening.
05:34 In the time you've been here,
05:36 have you seen some changes in life that say,
05:39 oh, that person's life changed,
05:41 I'm so glad I was able to, you know,
05:43 invite them, or bring them here?
05:46 Yeah, I see a lot of people that changed their life,
05:49 even not only, like come to Christ,
05:52 but to, you know, change what they,
05:55 what they need, and they are looking good now,
05:59 they're healthy, and you know,
06:01 they always come here and they say they like,
06:05 they like this program.
06:07 So there's not only hope on an internal level,
06:09 but hope on a physical level right now too.
06:12 Change lifestyle, feel better.
06:14 Yeah, I see that people that they feel better now.
06:18 Now, another thing I understand,
06:20 as soon as this part of the program is over,
06:22 then you're going to have a cooking school to show them
06:24 how to cook more healthfully too?
06:26 Yeah.
06:27 To me that is one of the things that I really want to learn
06:31 how to cook like mixed vegetable
06:33 and eat them.
06:35 Because throughout my life,
06:39 I have eaten lot of carrots and cabbages
06:42 and that's because of this program,
06:44 I started to eat and, you know,
06:46 my blood pressure is good, my sugar is good.
06:52 And, so you're benefiting from the program too?
06:55 I benefited from this program too
06:56 and I'm so happy.
06:58 Pastor, thank you so much for spending time with us.
07:00 Thank you for your help in this organization.
07:02 Thank you. Thank you.
07:03 All right. You're always welcome.
07:05 Thank you.
07:08 Ingrid, you seem like you're a long way from home.
07:11 Where are you from?
07:12 I'm from Taiwan. Taiwan.
07:14 What brings you to Majuro?
07:16 We bring Majuro, we have to,
07:19 we try to help Majuro about the older medical things.
07:24 Because I'm a nurse here before,
07:28 and we try to bring us there.
07:30 Here has a major diabetic problem
07:34 and a lot of issue also.
07:36 And we try to help them to figure out how we can help.
07:41 And so that's why we are here.
07:43 We do the screening here
07:45 and let people know they have diabetes,
07:48 because a lot of people they never know,
07:50 they never know they are diabetic.
07:53 So we do the health check here.
07:55 So you're working with the Canvasback
07:57 Wellness Center?
07:58 Yes, yes. Okay.
07:59 What specifically do you do?
08:01 I get the feeling you're an organizer here
08:03 and help things in this area?
08:05 Yes.
08:06 A standard we,
08:09 we organize that we plan,
08:13 every year we plan how many communities
08:16 we're going to visit and what's our goal.
08:19 But we're going to education those people,
08:22 so we said about our schedule and we visit the community
08:27 every weeks, every Friday and do the screening.
08:31 If they are diabetic, we refer them to the hospital
08:34 and Tanner will help us to organize
08:37 their maybe sometimes their transportation.
08:40 And sometimes we have to remind them
08:42 to come to the hospital
08:44 because people here will forgot what they have appointment.
08:47 Okay. Yeah.
08:48 And now we are trying to training the health worker
08:52 in the community.
08:53 So I saw you were training,
08:55 it looked like you were training some people.
08:56 What were you actually doing?
08:58 The people here they are now the nurse to name, be trainers
09:02 coming for the health worker, but we need them
09:06 to help us to help people to measure their blood pressure
09:11 or measure their blood sugar,
09:14 but then we have to teach them
09:15 how to use it and how the data
09:18 they need to be referred as the normal data
09:21 why is it is diabetes, the pre-diabetes or diabetes,
09:24 or pre-hypertension, hypertension,
09:26 we have to teach them before they do the screening.
09:30 And after that we don't have to be here every week.
09:34 The health worker can help us
09:36 to screening those community people here
09:39 and just show, just give us a referral.
09:42 How many people they screen every week
09:45 and how many people
09:46 they may be referred to the hospital.
09:49 Okay, now, how many people in a clinic like this?
09:52 How many people do you find that
09:54 have a real problem with diabetes,
09:56 that's looking pretty bad?
09:58 Oh, way a lot.
09:59 A lot. A lot.
10:00 I can't tell the number
10:02 because every committee was some way bigger
10:05 or some maybe smaller, but wow.
10:08 Now what's a healthy blood sugar level?
10:12 Healthy blood sugar?
10:13 If you are fasting, below 120.
10:16 Below 120? Yes.
10:18 And some of the people you test here,
10:19 how high are they?
10:21 Oh, sometimes they're over 200 and sometimes they're over 500.
10:25 That's almost critical, isn't it?
10:27 Yes, and sometimes
10:29 the glucometer can't show the data
10:33 because too high and I...
10:35 and we will send them,
10:37 sometimes we will send them to the hospital right away.
10:41 They're too high and also the blood pressure.
10:43 The people here sometimes we make sure over 200.
10:47 So tell me what a good blood pressure is?
10:50 It should be all around
10:52 to 120 over 90 is better range.
10:57 And you get some that are way over 200?
11:00 Yes, way over 200 is really dangerous.
11:03 You'll be shocked or everything...
11:05 I've seen with the wellness center with diet
11:07 and things there's, they can help change this,
11:10 one of these things.
11:11 Healthy diet.
11:12 Yes, we sometimes we teach them
11:14 how they can have the healthy diet.
11:17 It's not easy to get healthy diet here
11:19 because the vegetables are so expensive.
11:22 But we try to help them to teach them how to use local,
11:27 local food to stay healthy.
11:30 All right.
11:31 Well, thank you, Ingrid, so much.
11:33 Thank you. Appreciate it.
11:34 Thanks for all your hard work. Thank you.
11:36 All right.
11:45 Rain, rain, rain.
11:47 But, you know, that's typically what it does in the islands.
11:49 That's what it does here in Majuro in this wonderful,
11:52 beautiful atoll,
11:54 it does quit once in a while, but it goes a lot.
11:57 We're going to have a lot more.
11:59 Stay tuned, we'll be right back.
12:03 According to the World Health Organization,
12:05 depression is the leading cause of worldwide disability
12:09 that happens to a lot of people.
12:12 Are you depressed?
12:13 Have you become discouraged lately?
12:15 The list is endless of things
12:17 that can trigger discouragement,
12:18 despair, or even depression.
12:21 If you are someone you know is experiencing
12:23 one or more of these difficulties,
12:25 we have a great little booklet for you.
12:27 It's written by author
12:28 and international speaker Jim Ayer.
12:30 Overcoming the 3Ds contains timely advice
12:34 set in a lighthearted manner,
12:35 meant to help lift you up and out of your problems.
12:39 Understand, we all have problems,
12:41 trials and troubles,
12:42 but we don't need to focus on them.

12:56 Get your copy today.
13:11 Tell me, at what point you realized
13:13 something was wrong with your son?
13:16 We didn't recognize the problem with the kid when he was born.
13:20 But getting older and order,
13:21 we started because of every time
13:24 he has to, you know, way of looking at people
13:27 and even a bright light
13:30 really bothers him a lot.
13:33 I mean how old was he then before you really realized
13:36 that he had some type of problem?
13:38 We started noticing when he was three years old.
13:42 Three years old. And what was that like?
13:46 I mean, when all of a sudden
13:47 when you realize he's got a problem?
13:49 What did you do?
13:52 We took him to the hospital
13:54 and to check with the eye doctor.
13:58 And according to him, he said he has
14:00 some kind of cataract in his eyes.
14:06 And so, we asked him, well,
14:10 so what can we do for him.
14:11 Any possibility that you can help him
14:15 and because of,
14:18 he wasn't sure as of he never had,
14:22 he probably never,
14:25 he never did any operation on small kids, children.
14:29 So he wanted to get some advice from abroad from his friends,
14:33 especially from the Philippines
14:35 because the doctors are Filipino.
14:39 So we waited for so long.
14:42 Then he gave us and said,
14:44 "Well the only way we can do
14:46 is to send him over
14:48 to do surgery maybe in the Philippines,
14:52 but I need some advice
14:56 from my friends
14:58 if they can help him."
15:00 So we waited so long.
15:03 How long did you wait?
15:06 Until I think, last year he had.
15:12 So you waited maybe at least a couple of years?
15:14 Yeah, maybe two to three years.
15:15 Oh my.
15:16 So, and you're seeing that he's getting worse,
15:19 maybe you're starting to really realize he,
15:21 he is virtually blind.
15:23 Right.
15:24 And when the team Canvasback
15:28 came to the island,
15:30 we started to hoping that
15:32 maybe would have done something.
15:34 But we weren't there at the beginning.
15:37 And the doctors, they said, "Well, yeah, we can do that,
15:40 but the problem is, they also,
15:43 they weren't sure whether they're not confident
15:45 if they could do it.
15:49 Because of maybe as a kid,
15:51 but somehow, maybe thank, thank God for.
15:55 Somebody came up
15:57 from within their team a day after
16:00 and we didn't realize that
16:03 she could have done, she could have done it.
16:07 So they call us early in the morning,
16:10 I think on Sunday,
16:12 or something that we need to take him back
16:14 to the hospital right away.
16:16 So they told us that they could do it.
16:19 So one of the ophthalmology team
16:20 from Canvasback called and said,
16:22 "Come back to the hospital, we can do this."
16:25 We were...
16:27 My wife and I...
16:28 I told my wife and said, "Wow, our prayers have been,
16:33 you know, she's been praying for her son for so long,
16:37 to help him trying to find help than even myself,
16:40 I was thinking that nothing happened.
16:44 I have no choice
16:45 but maybe I have to stop working
16:47 and find ways to help him,
16:49 to take him maybe to the States and find help for him.
16:55 Which is very expensive to do all that.
16:58 Yeah. Okay, it's the day of surgery.
17:02 What was going through your mind?
17:05 We actually, we are very confident
17:07 with the team
17:08 because they said that we could do it.
17:10 And we've been praying for that.
17:13 So you've got a real anchor on the dock.
17:14 Yes.
17:16 And also our son was really strong at that.
17:18 Every time when we took him to the hospital,
17:22 he never cries or never even they took his blood out.
17:28 Now people like, as a small kid,
17:32 a lot of kids are always crying
17:35 if you come to having an injection
17:38 or something with the needle.
17:40 But for him,
17:41 he was very confident and strong.
17:43 Showing confidence that he could do it.
17:47 Buti, mom and dad said they call you Buti.
17:51 Can I call you Buti? Okay?
17:56 Yeah.
17:57 Were you scared when you went to the doctor?
18:02 No. No.
18:04 Did you believe in God?
18:11 Yes.
18:14 Can you tell me what happened when after the surgery
18:18 and the doctors took off the bandage?
18:21 What happened then?
18:27 Yeah.
18:29 You can see?
18:31 Yeah.
18:32 Somebody told me who was there at that surgery
18:36 that you pointed up to the sky.
18:39 Tell me why you pointed up to the sky?
18:43 Actually, he wasn't pointing at the sky
18:46 but because of his faith, as in the church of one God.
18:51 One God.
18:53 That's where we can point for God.
18:54 Yeah. So you're pointing up to God.
18:57 You're thanking God for now you can see.
19:00 How about you, dad? How does that make you feel?
19:03 I was really, I was really thankful
19:08 for all that what they have done for him.
19:11 And I couldn't believe that our prayers were answered.
19:17 Tell me what you think of the Canvasback team?
19:20 Every time I visit the hospital,
19:25 I always see a lot of these team members
19:28 coming back and forth.
19:30 And I never realized that
19:32 I would ever have the chance to meet with them.
19:36 Even myself, I had eye surgery too with the team.
19:42 And...
19:43 So now your whole family? The whole family.
19:46 Mom had both eyes cataracts removed, you too.
19:48 Yes. Wow.
19:50 So we were really thankful
19:52 for the great job that Canvasback
19:56 is helping us especially in the Marshall Islands.
19:59 It's changed the whole family.
20:01 It's changed the whole family
20:03 and we are very thankful for that.
20:05 God has not forgotten people of the islands, has He?
20:08 Yes, we are very thankful for them, yeah.
20:13 I want to thank all of you today so much.
20:16 Thank you also for. Thank you.
20:18 Thank you for inviting.
20:23 Jesus said, "Suffer the little children
20:25 to come unto Me."
20:26 He also said, "Go into all the world."
20:28 And that's exactly
20:29 what Canvasback has been doing is going into all the world
20:32 and changing hearts
20:33 and lives of Robuti, his family.
20:36 But it is so exciting to see
20:38 how God is working through Canvasback Ministries.
20:41 I hope you join with the ministry too.
20:43 It is absolutely amazing what God is doing.
20:48 As a leader in the field of health in Micronesia,
20:51 Canvasback Missions
20:53 has been helping people reverse diabetes for years.
20:57 Yes, you heard correctly, reverse diabetes.
21:01 In addition, we are helping
21:02 to reduce the incident of heart disease.
21:05 At least 34 million people in the US have diabetes.
21:09 Many have no idea they have it until it's almost too late.
21:13 Many children have diabetes.
21:16 It's time to stop it in its tracks.
21:18 What's the key?
21:19 Certain foods,
21:21 exercise and many other simple yet critical items
21:24 are combined to produce amazing results.

22:26 Jamie and Jacque Spence are an amazing couple.
22:29 They're the co-founders of Canvasback Ministries.
22:32 As I thought of them, I also thought of Isaiah 6.
22:36 Isaiah 6 is a very interesting chapter
22:38 because it starts out,
22:40 "In the year the King Uzziah died,
22:42 I saw also the Lord sitting on a throne
22:44 high and lifted up
22:46 and His train filled the temple."
22:49 Here is a vision of God.
22:51 Isaiah's ministry hadn't been going really anywhere to well,
22:55 I don't believe as I read these chapters.
22:58 But here all of a sudden, he sees a vision of God, high,
23:03 lifted up sitting on His throne,
23:05 His garments filled the entire temple,
23:08 filled the entire building, and above it stood seraphim.
23:11 Seraphim are angels and these angels had six wings.
23:15 Two it says covered their face,
23:16 two their bodies,
23:18 two their feet as they were flying.
23:21 Why did they do this?
23:23 Because they didn't even want to look at God.
23:26 God is so holy, so high and lifted up.
23:29 They didn't want to look at God,
23:30 they didn't want God to see them.
23:32 Everything was all about God.
23:35 Then they cried, "Holy, holy, holy God,
23:39 the Father, God, the Son, God, the Holy Spirit,"
23:42 they recognized the three right there.
23:45 As they continued on as Isaiah, that as the angel spoke,
23:49 even the temple begin to shake,
23:53 it was almost like an earthquake.
23:56 And what did he say?
23:57 He says, "Woe is me, oh, I am undone.
24:01 I really see God for who God is now.
24:04 I see myself the way I am.
24:07 What am I going to do?"
24:10 And it's so interesting.
24:12 An angel flew, took tongs off the altar
24:16 the fire of God and touched his lips
24:18 and cleansed him.
24:21 God's fire cleanses us,
24:23 God changes when we're willing and open.
24:26 Isaiah was willing and open.
24:28 He humbled himself, He surrendered fully to God.
24:32 Now what's exciting about this even further
24:34 is now God says, well, basically,
24:39 let me preface this for a moment
24:41 because Isaiah hears the conversation with God.
24:46 And God, Father, Son,
24:48 Holy Spirit are saying, "Who shall we send?
24:53 Who shall go for us?"
24:54 And Isaiah hears this conversation.
24:56 He's led in on the divine conversation of God.
24:59 He says, "Lord, here I am, send me.
25:04 Here I am, send me."
25:06 Only after he saw God high and lifted up,
25:10 he saw himself for who he was,
25:13 was able to say, God, I'm ready to do Your work.
25:17 Jacque and Jamie, they had,
25:21 had traveled the world sailing.
25:24 And when God touched their hearts
25:26 and touched their lives,
25:27 God led them in on a holy conversation,
25:30 saying, who will we send?
25:32 Who will we send to the islands?
25:34 And their hearts were impressed.
25:35 And they said, "God, send us."
25:38 And Jacque and Jamie for 38 years
25:40 have been serving the islands,
25:42 doing a tremendous work for Him.
25:45 Praise God that they heard His voice.
26:00 Oh, how I love Rovis,
26:02 he grabbed hold of my heart the day
26:04 I met him at the hospital.
26:07 And when we took the bandages off,
26:09 and he saw his mama and papa for the first time,
26:13 there wasn't a dry eye among the staff.
26:16 When I asked him,
26:18 why was he pointing to the heavens,
26:20 he said, there's only one God.
26:23 He was praising the Lord
26:25 for giving sight to him and his mom.
