00:01 The experiments you will see
00:02 have been carefully done by professionals,
00:04 and should not be tried at home without parental guidance.
00:06 Please follow the caution signs throughout this program.
00:32 Hey kids, thanks for joining us today
00:34 for Creation Is Science and we have Professor Roy.
00:38 I'm delighted to have you here on the set with us once again.
00:41 Well, you're welcome. And we have some helpers today.
00:44 Can you say your name and how old you are please?
00:46 Julia and I'm six.
00:48 My name is Amy and I'm 15.
00:50 My name is William and I'm eight.
00:54 My name is Colin, I'm eight.
00:56 I'm so glad you're here with us.
00:57 What do you have for us?
00:59 I see something right here and I think this is a cooler.
01:01 Got a cooler, got an ice chest, have something very cold in it.
01:04 Now, today we've got an interesting experiment.
01:06 What we're going to do.
01:07 I'm going to put some air in this balloon.
01:09 Then we're going to take some energy away from it.
01:11 Then we're going to add some more energy to the balloon,
01:13 we'll see what happens.
01:14 Okay? All right. I'm excited.
01:16 So I'm going to start with this one.
01:17 All right, here we go. Let's pull it up.
01:22 That's a squeaky balloon, isn't it?
01:24 I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to tie this,
01:25 and I'm going to put it right into my liquid nitrogen.
01:28 So I'm just going to put it right in there
01:29 and put my glove over there.
01:31 We're going to force that in there.
01:32 Well, it's getting very, very cold, isn't it?
01:34 But what we're doing is we're taking energy away
01:36 from the air inside of the balloon,
01:38 taking a lot of energy away
01:40 from that air inside of the balloon.
01:42 Then I'm going to take it out
01:44 and see what happens right here.
01:45 Look at my balloon. That's pretty cool.
01:47 Now it still has the same amount of air.
01:49 It's just that we've taken some energy away from it
01:51 and the air molecules get closer together
01:53 and they slow down.
01:56 Ain't that cool? That is cool.
01:57 Let's find out more. Wait a minute.
01:59 I got some more. Look what I got.
02:01 I got a few more. I got a few more.
02:02 Oh, we got to go outside. I got a few more.
02:05 Let's come on out, let's go.
02:07 What's gonna happen to those? Come on guys.
02:10 Oh, let's go. Let's go.
02:18 Oh, I see something fun here.
02:21 I can't wait to see what happens.
02:23 What are we doing today?
02:24 You know, we're going to use
02:26 something that's very, very cold, you know,
02:27 and things that are very, very cold are interesting.
02:29 Aren't they? Yeah, they are.
02:31 In fact, we got a container right here
02:33 and that is called a doer.
02:35 It's a dewar and a dewar is a cryogenic container,
02:39 and we've got some cryogenic liquids.
02:41 And that means we got a liquid
02:42 that's really, really, really cold.
02:44 Take a breath, deep breath and exhale.
02:47 Now, most of the air that
02:48 you and I are breathing is nitrogen.
02:50 Did you know that?
02:51 A lot of people think it's oxygen,
02:52 but it's not.
02:54 And today what we have is we have liquid air
02:55 or liquid nitrogen
02:56 in those two containers right there.
02:58 Now I wonder what we're going to do with that.
03:00 You think we could make a liquid nitrogen explode?
03:04 Yes. Yeah.
03:06 We might be able to do that because it's boiling right now.
03:08 Now, what happens if you have a container
03:10 and you put some liquid in it
03:13 and you put a cap on it
03:15 and you heat it up really, really hot,
03:16 what's going to happen to the container?
03:18 It's gonna pop. It's gonna break open.
03:20 That's right. It's going to explode.
03:21 And that could be dangerous, couldn't it?
03:22 All right.
03:24 Well, today we're going to do that with a liquid nitrogen.
03:26 And so what we're going to do
03:27 is we're going to put some of it in a bottle.
03:29 Okay.
03:30 And Auntie Francine is going to help me do that.
03:32 All right.
03:33 So, what we're going to do is we're going to get
03:35 some gloves right here and see, and there's yours glove.
03:37 Okay? Thank you.
03:39 I've got a glove and we're going to put
03:40 some of that right into a bottle.
03:43 Okay?
03:44 But before we do that, we're going to need some water
03:46 because we want this reaction to happen really, really quick.
03:48 Right?
03:50 We're going to have to wait around
03:51 for five minutes or so.
03:52 So, my bottle helpers,
03:55 okay, so you were going to help me
03:57 pour one of those two liter bottles in here
03:59 and you work with somebody else,
04:00 who's gonna pour that bottle in.
04:02 Okay, let's see. William, come on over.
04:03 Okay, so here and I'll take the lid off of this.
04:06 Okay. All right.
04:07 I'll take the lid off of this one.
04:08 Okay.
04:10 And you can take the lid off of the other one.
04:11 What we're going to do is
04:13 we're going to try to have a little race.
04:14 We're going to try to see
04:15 who can pour the water out the fastest.
04:17 Okay. All right.
04:19 So are we ready to start? Okay.
04:21 Three, two, one, and go ahead.
04:23 Let's see if you can get it out faster.
04:27 Oh, what's happening?
04:28 Look at this one.
04:30 The winner right here. This is our winner right here.
04:32 Interesting.
04:34 Now how come hers came out faster than the other one?
04:37 You see what she did?
04:39 What did she do with her bottle?
04:40 Like swirl it.
04:41 That's right, she made it swirling around.
04:43 And what did that do?
04:45 It caused, it caused a little vent tube
04:47 of air going up the center,
04:49 which is kind of like, kind of like a tornado, right?
04:52 Like a vortex. That's really, really cool.
04:54 And this one right here was jugging,
04:55 juggle up, juggle up, juggle up,
04:57 take a long time for that water to go out of the bottle.
04:58 It did take a long time.
04:59 Hey, that's a neat way of pouring water.
05:01 I like that.
05:02 Hey, so all we got, we got a water in here.
05:04 The next thing we're going to need
05:06 is we're going to put
05:07 some liquid nitrogen in another bottle.
05:08 So why don't you get,
05:10 you got an empty bottle with a lid.
05:11 Okay. All right.
05:13 And an empty bottle with a lid. Okay.
05:15 And, hey, why don't you move over there with them?
05:18 Right? Okay.
05:19 Let's see what we're going to do.
05:21 Now, I've got some liquid nitrogen in here.
05:23 We're going to pour about 100 milliliters,
05:25 okay, of liquid into
05:27 their container right there, right?
05:29 All right, then I'm going to put the cap on
05:31 and you've got the cap in your hand.
05:32 All right, good.
05:33 And then we're going to put the bottle
05:35 right inside of that water.
05:36 And that water is going to do what?
05:38 It's going to take a lot of heat
05:40 away from this.
05:41 And we're going to warm this liquid nitrogen up.
05:43 And we're going to have the liquid nitrogen
05:45 turning into an air gas inside of the bottles,
05:48 we gonna over what?
05:49 Pressurize the bottle. Cool.
05:51 It's going to break open.
05:53 We're going to have a lot of energy
05:54 going up into the air.
05:55 It's going to make a lot of noise,
05:57 but we're going to cover our ears.
05:58 Okay. All right.
05:59 So here, let me get you guys to move back
06:01 just a little more.
06:02 Because this is going to be kind of loud.
06:03 Keep going, keep going, keep going.
06:06 All right, right there. That's perfect.
06:08 All right. Are you ready?
06:09 I'm ready.
06:11 So what we're going to do is we're going to go ahead
06:12 and we're going to pour some in here.
06:13 All right. There we go. It's very, very cold.
06:15 If your hand gets too cold, just scream.
06:18 I mean, just let me know and I'll stop.
06:21 I'll stop. Okay, there we go. We got to go.
06:24 We're going to put a little more in,
06:25 so we're trying to get about 100 milliliters
06:28 or so of liquid nitrogen in there.
06:31 Okay. That's about right.
06:32 Okay. And I'm going to trade you.
06:33 I'm going to hand you this right here.
06:35 Let's see what we got. Oh, okay.
06:37 And let's see.
06:39 I think maybe what we're going to do
06:40 is we're going to need maybe a little more.
06:42 Okay. So we got some more over here.
06:45 All right.
06:46 Because it goes back into the air
06:48 and we just can't keep it as a liquid
06:50 because it's boiling right now.
06:52 I'm going to put this down right here.
06:53 You want me to hold that one? Oh, no, no.
06:55 I'm going to put the lid on it.
06:56 I'm going to put the bottle in there
06:58 and you guys need to cover your ears
07:00 because it's really, really loud.
07:02 All right.
07:03 We're going to cool down the water molecules in the air
07:06 and we're going to make a little cloud
07:08 and it's going to make a mess.
07:10 Are we ready? Okay.
07:11 I'm going to put this on really, really tight.
07:14 I put it on real tight. Here we go.
07:16 I'm going to put it in there like that.
07:18 And I think when I'm going to come over here with you guys.
07:21 Okay.
07:22 And how about a countdown starting with 20.
07:24 Are you ready?
07:25 Okay, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16.
07:31 Oh, boy. Oh, boy.
07:33 What, did you hear that? Yes.
07:35 Oh, my, was that loud? Yes, it was loud.
07:37 Now, the question is, did we do any work?
07:41 You know, we didn't do any work, did we?
07:44 No work was done, but you know what we did.
07:45 We made a lot of noise, right?
07:47 And noise isn't really work. We made a cloud.
07:50 We took the water molecules in the air,
07:51 made a cloud out of them.
07:53 But hey, what about you?
07:54 Shall we do some work this time, next time?
07:56 Yes. We're going to do some work.
07:57 Okay. So what we need to do is.
07:58 We are doing it again?
08:00 Yeah, we're going to do it again.
08:01 Oh, yes.
08:03 We're going to focus a lot of energy
08:04 in one direction only.
08:05 Okay.
08:07 See that blue barrel right there,
08:08 the big, tall blue,
08:09 we're going to turn that into a rocket
08:11 and we're going to focus all of that energy
08:12 out of the bottle, into that blue trash can.
08:14 We're going to make a rocket out of it.
08:15 Okay.
08:17 So here, we're going to fill that up again.
08:18 Okay.
08:19 You guys stay right where you're at.
08:21 Okay. Okay.
08:22 Let's see what we got right here.
08:24 Do we need more? Let's see, all right.
08:25 And let's see, you know what?
08:26 I think I'm going to need just a little more
08:28 of our liquid nitrogen here.
08:30 So I'm going to pour a little more out.
08:31 We're going to pour it into there.
08:33 No, I can get it. I can get it right here.
08:35 All right, here we go. Let's pour that in there.
08:38 Right. There we go.
08:39 And now we're going to fill up, not fill up,
08:42 but we're going to put our about
08:44 150 milliliters right inside of another empty bottle
08:48 which is setting right over there.
08:50 Okay. And you know what?
08:52 Hey, we need our water race again.
08:54 So can we get our two water bottles?
08:55 I want two other people? Two other people?
08:57 Here we go. Come on over.
08:59 Williams and Amy come on over. Come on over.
09:00 Yeah, take the lids off of those bottles.
09:02 Take the lids off the bottle. Take the lids off.
09:05 We might need a helper. Okay.
09:07 We got it. Okay.
09:08 You remember how to do it. So we have a water race?
09:10 A water race, who can do it? Who can dump it in quicker?
09:12 One two three, go.
09:15 Go, go, go, go, go...
09:18 There we go.
09:19 Oh, they're squeezing it.
09:20 They're squeezing it.
09:22 Oh, I don't know. Hey, thanks.
09:25 Okay, take those bottles over there with you.
09:27 Take the bottles over there. Thank you.
09:28 All right. We're going to go ahead.
09:30 And, we are going to put about 150 milliliters
09:33 inside of that bottle If it'll stop moving around.
09:36 Okay.
09:37 We've got our safety glasses on?
09:38 Yes, we do.
09:40 Everybody has their safety glasses on?
09:41 Yeah. I got mine on.
09:43 Okay. Here we go. Now hang on.
09:45 Okay, we've got to hold it up just a little more.
09:48 Let's see where we're at. Need a little more.
09:50 Okay. All right, there we go.
09:52 All right, let's pour some more in here.
09:54 I can't see with the clouds. Okay.
09:56 Yeah, I know, it makes a nice cloud,
09:58 doesn't it?
09:59 But we're seeing that cloud
10:00 because of the water molecules in the air,
10:02 we're getting them so cold
10:04 and they condense the form of cloud.
10:06 That's what happens outside.
10:07 That's interesting, isn't it?
10:09 It's very interesting. All right.
10:10 Let's see what we got right here.
10:12 I can't wait.
10:13 I don't know if I want a bigger boom shout.
10:14 Okay, let me, let me check.
10:16 See what we got. All right.
10:17 We're going to need some more.
10:18 I'm gonna pour the rest in there.
10:20 I think that's what we're going to do.
10:21 All right.
10:23 Because this stuff is going back
10:24 into the air very, very quickly.
10:25 It's really hot out here. It is hot.
10:27 It really is hot out here.
10:30 Right, there we go. Let's see what we got.
10:32 Okay. All right.
10:33 I think we're ready to go. That is much better.
10:36 All right.
10:37 So, I'm going to put this in there
10:39 and what's going to happen?
10:40 Explode.
10:41 It's going to break open, it's going to explode.
10:43 And then, but after I do that, I'm just going to put this.
10:47 After I put the bottle in there,
10:48 I'm going to put this upside down
10:49 right on top of the bottle.
10:51 We're going to focus all of that energy
10:53 into that trash can.
10:54 Oh, wow. Are you ready?
10:56 Yes. Okay.
10:57 And move this way a little more,
10:58 because we got a little wind blowing.
11:00 I don't want to go over there.
11:01 It should go with the wind, we hope.
11:03 All Right. All right, here we go.
11:06 I'm going to put the lid on really tight.
11:07 All right.
11:09 Let's get this one really, really tight.
11:10 We definitely need to turn on. You ready?
11:13 All right, here we go. Oh, we have to count.
11:16 Right, the children have to count sooner this time.
11:17 There we go, y'all let's count again.
11:19 We go, ten, nine, eight, seven,
11:23 six, five, four, three, two, one.
11:28 Whoa!
11:29 Look out, move over here.
11:31 Move it over this way.
11:33 Whoa! That's so cool.
11:35 Do you see that rocket?
11:36 Oh my, that's interesting.
11:38 Hey, come on over. Let's talk about this.
11:41 Now, that's interesting.
11:42 Somebody can get our trash can. Yeah, pick it up.
11:44 Thank you. Come on over here.
11:46 Look at that. What was this?
11:49 What was that? Water bottle.
11:51 It was a water bottle,
11:53 but the water bottle broke open.
11:54 Why did it break open?
11:55 Because it wasn't that tough.
11:57 It wasn't that tough. You're right.
11:59 Well, you know, and these bottles are strong,
12:01 but they can't take all of that pressure.
12:03 Tremendous amount of pressure was in here.
12:05 Did we do any work? Did we do any work?
12:09 Other than pouring it in.
12:10 We did work, didn't we? What did we do?
12:11 Did we make a rocket out of it? Yes.
12:14 We made a rocket
12:15 because we focused all of the energy
12:18 from our liquid nitrogen changing back into a vapor
12:21 and all of that energy went into that barrel
12:23 and it shot it up in the air.
12:25 Isn't that cool? That really is.
12:28 You know, that's what can happen
12:29 if we focus our energy, we've got to focus our energy.
12:33 You know, a lot of people do this,
12:35 that, and the other thing, they do all kinds of things,
12:37 but they never seem to accomplish a whole lot.
12:40 That's because they're doing what?
12:41 They're all over the place and they just can't focus.
12:44 But you know what?
12:46 You know, Jesus tells us about focusing, doesn't He?
12:48 You know, in Matthew, Jesus tells us this.
12:50 He says, seek ye first the what?
12:53 Kingdom. The kingdom of God.
12:55 He says, that's what we're supposed to do.
12:57 We're supposed to focus our attention on Him.
12:59 Seek ye first the kingdom of God.
13:01 And he says, I'm going to add all of these things to you.
13:04 Isn't that cool?
13:06 So what we need to do is we need to do
13:08 what's the most important thing,
13:09 and that is what?
13:11 Put Christ first.
13:12 That's right, put Jesus first and He's going to help us
13:14 with all the rest.
13:16 Isn't that cool? That is wonderful.
13:20 Thank you. That was awesome. Cool.
13:21 So we made a cloud, but not a fun cloud.
13:24 Didn't do any work. We just made a cloud.
13:26 I love to see that trash can going up.
13:28 It was. That was spot on.
13:31 It did. That's amazing to us. Yeah.
13:34 Are you guys ready to head back inside?
13:36 All right, let's go.
13:39 I'm going to bring the barrel.
13:40 All right. Let's go.
13:42 Did you like that?
13:47 How fun was that? Did you enjoy that?
13:49 Yes. Oh, that was amazing.
13:52 Ooh, look at that. I like what you did.
13:54 It reminds me of Philippians 4:13 that says,
13:58 "I can do all things through Christ
14:00 who strengthens me."
14:03 We can see creation all around us
14:05 because creation is science.
