00:16 Hi, and welcome to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and I'll be reading today from the 00:21 King James Version. You know the last time we read together, 00:25 Part of what we read was Jesus warning his disciples to not 00:29 simply hear the word, but to hear it and to do it. 00:32 And that, that would be like building a house upon a rock. 00:35 When the storms of life come, there is a firm foundation. 00:39 Before we go to that foundation, today, let's go to God in prayer 00:43 Dear Heavenly Father help us not to be just hearers of the word, 00:50 but doers of the Word. May we not be foolish and squander away 00:54 this wonderful gift that you've given to us. But may we wisely 00:58 turn to You and to this wealth of wisdom, and thus bring honor 01:02 and glory to your name in every thing we do. We love you 01:05 and we pray these things in the name of Jesus, Amen. 01:08 I'll be reading today from the book of Matthew, chapter 10. 01:13 Jesus has just called his disciples together and 01:16 commissioned them to go out and share the good news. 01:19 I'll begin in verse 9. Provide neither gold, nor silver, 01:25 nor brass in your purses, nor script for your journey, neither 01:29 two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman 01:33 is worthy of his meat. And into whatsoever city or town 01:37 ye shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and there abide 01:43 till ye go thence. And when ye come into an house, salute it. 01:47 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it; 01:51 but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 01:56 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, 02:00 when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust 02:04 of your feet. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more 02:08 tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of 02:11 Judgment, than for that city. Behold, I send you forth 02:16 as sheep in the midst of wolves be ye therefore wise as serpents 02:21 and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will 02:26 deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in 02:29 their synagogues; and ye shall be brought before governor 02:32 and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them 02:36 and the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, take no thought 02:41 how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that 02:45 same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, 02:50 but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 02:53 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, 02:57 and the father the child: and the children shall rise up 03:01 against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 03:03 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that 03:08 endureth to the end shall be saved. But when they persecute 03:13 you in this city, flee ye into into another; for verily I say 03:18 unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, 03:21 till the Son of man be come. The disciple is not above his master 03:26 nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple 03:30 that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. 03:35 If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, 03:39 how much more shall they call them of his household? 03:42 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, 03:48 that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 03:52 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: 03:56 and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye 04:00 upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body, but 04:03 are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is 04:07 able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 04:10 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them 04:16 shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 04:19 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 04:23 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. 04:28 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, 04:33 him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 04:37 But whosoever shall deny me before men him will I also deny 04:43 before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am 04:48 come to send peace on earth; I came not to send peace, 04:52 but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against 04:57 his father, and the daughter against her mother, 05:00 and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 05:03 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 05:07 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me 05:12 and he that loveth son or daughter more than me 05:16 is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, 05:21 and followeth after me is not worthy of me. 05:25 He that findeth his live shall lose it: and he that loseth 05:30 his life for my sake shall find it. He that receiveth you 05:35 receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him 05:39 that sent me. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a 05:43 prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; 05:46 and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of 05:49 a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. 05:52 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little 05:57 ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, 06:00 verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. 06:06 I'm reading from the book of Matthew, chapter eleven. 06:11 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding 06:16 his twelve disciples, he departed thence 06:18 to teach and to preach in their cities. Now when John had heard 06:23 in the prison the works of Christ, 06:25 he sent two of his disciples, and said unto him, Art thou he 06:30 that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered 06:34 and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which 06:38 ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, 06:42 and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, 06:46 the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached 06:50 to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended 06:54 in me. And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the 06:59 multitudes concerning John, What went ye out 07:02 into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken in the wind? 07:06 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed 07:09 in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are 07:13 in king's houses. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? 07:18 Yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he, 07:24 of whom it is written, Behold I send my messenger before 07:28 thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 07:31 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women 07:35 there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: 07:39 notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven 07:43 is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist 07:48 until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, 07:50 and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets 07:54 and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, 07:58 this is Elias, which was for to come. He that hath ears to hear, 08:04 let him hear. But whereunto shall I liken this generation? 08:08 It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling 08:12 unto their fellows, and saying, We have piped unto you, 08:16 and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, 08:18 and ye have not lamented. For John came neither eating 08:22 nor drinking, and they say, he hath a devil. The Son of man 08:26 came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man 08:29 gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and 08:33 sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children. 08:37 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his 08:42 mighty works were done, because they repented not: Woe unto thee 08:47 Chorazin! woe unto thee Bethsaida! for if the mighty 08:51 works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, 08:55 they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 08:59 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre 09:03 and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. 09:06 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, 09:10 shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which 09:14 have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, 09:17 it would have remained until this day. But I say unto you, 09:22 That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day 09:26 of judgment, than for thee. At that time Jesus answered 09:31 and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven 09:34 and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise, and 09:38 prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: 09:45 for so it seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered 09:49 unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; 09:52 neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, 09:56 and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, 10:01 all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 10:05 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly 10:11 in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 10:15 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. 10:19 I'm reading from the book of Matthew, chapter twelve. 10:22 At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; 10:27 and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck 10:31 the ears of corn, and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, 10:34 they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not 10:39 lawful to do upon the Sabbath day. But he said unto them, 10:43 Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungered, and 10:47 they that were with him; How he entered into the house of God, 10:51 and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, 10:54 neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? 10:58 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days 11:02 the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, 11:05 and are blameless? But I say unto you, That in this place 11:10 is one greater than the temple. But if ye had known what this 11:15 meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have 11:20 condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is Lord, even 11:25 of the Sabbath day. And when he was departed thence, 11:29 he went into their synagogue: And behold, there was a man 11:33 which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, 11:36 is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days? 11:39 that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man 11:44 shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it 11:47 fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, 11:51 and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? 11:55 Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days. 12:00 Then saith he to the man, stretch forth thine hand, 12:04 And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, 12:08 like as the other. Then the Pharisees went out, 12:11 and held a council against him, how they might destroy him. 12:14 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence. 12:19 and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all; 12:22 And charged them that they should not make him known. 12:26 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet 12:30 saying, Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in 12:36 whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, 12:40 and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not 12:45 strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the 12:49 streets. A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax 12:55 shall he not quench till he send forth judgment unto victory. 12:59 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust. 13:02 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind 13:08 and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb 13:12 both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, 13:18 Is not this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, 13:22 they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils but by Beelzebub 13:26 the prince of devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said 13:30 unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself 13:34 is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided 13:38 against itself shall not stand: And if Satan cast out Satan, 13:43 he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom 13:47 stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do 13:52 your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your 13:56 judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the 14:01 kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else how can one enter into a 14:06 strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind 14:10 the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. He that is not 14:15 with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me 14:19 scattereth abroad. - Thank you again for joining me 14:26 for the reading of His Words Are Life. 14:27 And until we meet again, may you find these words to be bread 14:31 and meat to your soul. Goodbye, and God bless you. |
