00:17 Hi, and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and I'll be reading today 00:21 from the King James Version of the bible. When we last read 00:24 together, it was about the parable of the wedding feast. 00:27 and how the king had prepared this delicious banquet and the 00:31 people who had been invited were too busy with other things 00:34 to be bothered. And they didn't come. And it's easy for me to 00:38 look at that and think how foolish that is. Until I stop 00:42 to realize that I have here the wonderful word of God; 00:45 and too many times it seems that life is busy and full of 00:48 things that would distract us and take our attention away 00:51 from it. Let's not be like those foolish wedding guests 00:55 and ignore this wonderful gift. Now that we're here and can 00:59 read the words of life, let's begin but first let's go to God 01:02 and thank him for this wonderful gift. - Dear heavenly Father, 01:06 thank you for giving us the precious gift of life. 01:10 Life that we can come to and access over and over again, 01:14 whenever we need it. Help us not to be the people who hear 01:19 and don't actually listen, the people who see but don't 01:22 have their eyes open to the treasure. But give us ears 01:26 to hear and a heart to understand that we may 01:29 be wise and grow in wisdom with you. We ask it in Jesus name and 01:33 we love you. Amen. - Again, I'm reading from the King James 01:37 version in the book of Matthew, chapter 22, and I'll begin with 01:43 verse 11. - And when the king came in to see the guests, 01:48 he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment. 01:53 and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not 01:57 having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the 02:02 king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him 02:05 away and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping 02:09 and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen. 02:14 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might 02:18 entangle him in his talk. And they sent out unto him 02:21 their disciples with the Herodians, saying, 02:24 Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way 02:28 of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou 02:32 regardest not the person of men. Tell us therefore, What 02:36 thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, 02:40 or not? But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, 02:45 Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Shew me the tribute money. 02:50 And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, 02:54 whose is this image and superscription? 02:57 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, 03:02 Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; 03:05 and unto God the things that are God's. When they had heard these 03:11 words, they marveled, and left him, and went their way. 03:14 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there 03:19 is no resurrection, and asked, him, Saying, Master, Moses said, 03:24 If a man die having no children, his brother shall marry his wife 03:29 and raise up seed unto his brother. Now there were 03:33 with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a 03:37 wife, deceased, and having no issue, left his wife unto his 03:42 brother: Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the 03:47 seventh. And last of all the woman died also. Therefore 03:51 in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? 03:56 for they all had her. Jesus answered and said unto them 04:00 Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power 04:05 of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are 04:09 given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 04:13 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read 04:18 that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of 04:22 Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not 04:27 the God of the dead, but of the living. And when the multitude 04:32 heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. But when the 04:36 Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, 04:40 they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was 04:44 a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 04:48 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 04:52 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all 04:57 thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 05:01 This is the first and great commandment. And the 05:05 second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as 05:09 thyself. On these two commandments, hang 05:13 all the law and the prophets. While the Pharisees were 05:17 gathered together, Jesus asked them, Saying, What think ye of 05:22 Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. 05:27 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him 05:33 Lord, saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my 05:38 right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 05:41 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? 05:45 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any 05:51 man from that day forth ask him any more questions. 05:54 I'm reading from the book of Matthew, 05:57 and beginning with chapter 23. 06:00 Then spake Jesus to the multitude and to his disciples, 06:05 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 06:10 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe 06:14 and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, 06:20 and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne 06:26 and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not 06:29 move them with one of their fingers. But all their works 06:33 they do for to be seen of men: they make broad 06:38 their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments. 06:41 And love the uppermost rooms at the feasts, and the chief seats 06:45 in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets, 06:47 and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. But be not ye called 06:52 Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye 06:57 are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: 07:02 for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called 07:07 master: for one is your Master, even Christ. 07:10 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 07:15 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; 07:19 and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. 07:23 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye 07:29 shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go 07:33 in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. 07:36 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! 07:40 for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long 07:44 prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. 07:49 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, Hypocrites! 07:52 for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, 07:56 and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell 08:00 than yourselves. Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, 08:05 Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; 08:09 but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, 08:12 he is a debtor! Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, 08:18 the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? 08:21 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing: 08:26 but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, 08:29 he is guilty. Ye fools and blind, for whether is greater, 08:35 the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? 08:38 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, 08:43 and by all things thereon. And whoso shall swear by the temple, 08:47 sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. 08:51 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the 08:56 throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. 08:59 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! 09:04 for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have 09:08 omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, 09:12 and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave 09:18 the other undone. Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, 09:23 and swallow a camel. Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, 09:27 hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of 09:31 the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. 09:36 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the 09:40 cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean 09:44 also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! 09:49 for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed 09:53 appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's 09:57 bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly 10:03 appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy 10:07 and iniquity. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, 10:10 hypocrites! because ye build the tomb of the prophets, 10:13 and garnish the sepulchers of the righteous, and say, If we 10:17 had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been 10:20 partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. 10:22 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the 10:28 children of them which killed the prophets. Fill ye up then 10:32 the measure of your fathers. Ye serpents, ye generation 10:36 of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell. Wherefore, 10:42 behold, I send unto you prophets and wise men, and scribes: 10:46 and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them 10:50 shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute 10:52 them from city to city: That upon you may come all the 10:57 righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood 11:00 of righteous Able unto the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, 11:04 whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto 11:08 you, All these things shall come upon this generation. 11:12 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, 11:17 and stoneth them which are sent unto thee, how often would I 11:21 have gathered thy children together, even as a hen 11:25 gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 11:28 Behold your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you 11:34 You shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he 11:40 that cometh in the name of the Lord. 11:43 Reading from the book Matthew chapter 24, 11:47 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: 11:51 and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings 11:55 of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these 11:59 things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here 12:03 one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down 12:07 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto 12:13 him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? 12:17 and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of 12:20 the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed 12:24 that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, 12:28 saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall 12:33 hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: 12:37 for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 12:42 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against 12:46 kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, 12:49 and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the 12:53 beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up 12:56 to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated 13:00 of all nations for thy name's sake. And then shall many be 13:04 offended, and shall betray one another and shall hate one 13:07 another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive 13:11 many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many 13:16 shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, 13:20 the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom 13:25 shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all 13:28 nations; and then shall the end come. When ye therefore shall 13:33 see the abomination of desolation, spoken of 13:36 by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, 13:39 - whoso readeth, let him understand: - 13:42 Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains: 13:46 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take anything 13:50 out of his house: neither let him which is in the field 13:53 return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are 13:58 with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 14:00 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, 14:04 neither on the Sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, 14:08 such as was not since the beginning of the world 14:12 to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days 14:17 should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved. 14:20 But for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. 14:25 Thank you again, for joining me for the reading of these 14:29 wonderful words of life. Until we come together again, 14:32 may God bless you and keep you and your family 14:35 in His care. Goodbye. |
