00:16 Hi, and welcome to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and I'll be reading today
00:21 from the King James Version. You know when Jesus time
00:25 with his disciples was coming to a close, one of the last things
00:28 that he told them was, heaven and earth will pass away,
00:31 but my words will never pass away, and today we can
00:35 come to the very Word of God, that stands sure and firm,
00:39 throughout all time and beyond time, and we can read it
00:42 and be blessed by it, but before we read, let's go to Him
00:45 in prayer. O Holy Father, thank you so much for this opportunity
00:50 to put aside the different things that we all have
00:54 in our lives right now, and come into your
00:56 presence and hear your words, words that
00:59 will stand forever, when everything else is ended,
01:02 and passed away, your word stands firm.
01:06 Thank you for this gift, bless us now as we read, give
01:09 us understanding. We ask in Jesus name. Amen.
01:13 Again, I am reading from the King James version, the book of
01:18 Matthew, chapter 26 and beginning with verse 30.
01:21 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of
01:26 Olives. Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended
01:30 because of me this night: for it is written,
01:33 I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be
01:36 scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before
01:40 you into Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all
01:45 men shall be offended because of thee,
01:47 yet will I never be offended. Jesus said unto him, Verily I
01:53 say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow,
01:57 thou shalt deny me thrice. Peter said unto him,
02:01 Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee.
02:05 Likewise also said all the disciples. Then cometh Jesus
02:10 with them unto a place called Gethsemane,
02:13 and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray
02:17 yonder. And he took with him Peter and the 2 sons of Zebedee,
02:21 and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
02:24 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful,
02:29 even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
02:33 He went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed,
02:37 saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass
02:41 from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
02:46 And he cometh unto the disciples and findeth them asleep,
02:51 and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me
02:55 one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation:
02:59 the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
03:03 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying,
03:07 O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me,
03:11 except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them
03:17 asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them,
03:21 and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same
03:25 words. Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them,
03:29 Sleep on now and take your rest, behold, the hour is at hand,
03:35 and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
03:38 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray
03:45 me. And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came
03:51 and with him a great multitude with swords and staves,
03:54 from the chief priests and elders of the people.
03:56 now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, whomsoever
04:01 I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. And forthwith
04:07 he came to Jesus, and said, Hail Master; and kissed him.
04:10 And Jesus said unto him, Friend wherefore art thou come?
04:16 Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
04:20 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out
04:24 his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the
04:27 high priest's and smote off his ear. Then said Jesus unto him,
04:32 Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take
04:37 the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I
04:41 cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me
04:45 more than twelve legions of angels? But how then
04:49 shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
04:52 In that same hour, said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out
04:57 as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me?
05:00 I sat daily with you teaching in the temple and ye laid no hold
05:05 on me. But all this was done, that the scriptures
05:09 of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the
05:12 disciples forsook him, and fled.
05:15 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away
05:20 to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders
05:23 were assembled. But Peter followed him afar off.
05:26 unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the
05:29 servants, to see the end. Now the priests, and the elders,
05:34 and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus,
05:38 to put him to death; But found none: yea, though many false
05:43 witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two
05:48 false witnesses, and said, This fellow said,
05:51 I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three
05:54 days. And the high priest arose and said unto him, Answerest
05:59 thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
06:02 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered
06:07 and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God,
06:10 that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
06:13 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto
06:20 you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right
06:24 hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
06:27 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken
06:31 blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold,
06:35 now ye have heard his blasphemy What think ye? They answered
06:39 and said, He is guilty of death. Then did they spit in his face,
06:45 and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of
06:49 their hands, Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he
06:52 that smote thee? Now Peter sat without in the palace:
06:58 and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with
07:02 Jesus of Galilee. But he denied before them all, saying,
07:06 I know not what thou sayest. And when he was gone out
07:10 into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them
07:13 that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
07:16 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
07:21 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to
07:24 Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech
07:27 bewrayeth thee. Then began he to curse and to swear, saying,
07:32 I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
07:36 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him,
07:39 Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out,
07:44 and wept bitterly. Reading from the book of Matthew,
07:48 chapter 27. When the morning was come, all the chief priests
07:55 and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put
07:59 him to death: And when they had bound him, they led him away,
08:02 and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
08:05 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was
08:09 condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces
08:14 of silver to the chief priests and elders, Saying,
08:16 I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood.
08:20 And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
08:25 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple,
08:28 and departed, and went and hanged himself.
08:31 And the Chief priests took the silver pieces, and said,
08:35 It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because
08:39 it is the price of blood. And they took counsel, and bought
08:42 with them the potter's field to bury strangers in. Wherefore
08:47 that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
08:51 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy
08:55 the prophet, saying, And they took
08:57 the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued,
09:01 whom they of the children of Israel did value;
09:04 and gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
09:08 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor
09:11 asked him, saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? And Jesus said
09:16 unto him, Thou sayest. And when he was accused
09:20 of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
09:23 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many
09:28 things they witness against thee? And he answered him
09:31 to never a word; insomuch that the governor marveled greatly.
09:37 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the
09:41 people a prisoner, whom they would. And they had then a
09:44 notable prisoner, called Barabbas. Therefore
09:47 when they were gathered together Pilate said unto them, Whom will
09:50 ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is
09:54 called Christ? For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
09:58 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent
10:01 unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man
10:04 for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of
10:08 him. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude
10:12 that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
10:16 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain
10:20 will ye that I release unto you? They said Barabbas.
10:24 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus
10:28 which is called Christ? They all say unto him,
10:31 Let him be crucified. And the governor said, Why, what evil
10:35 hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying,
10:38 Let him be crucified. When Pilate saw that he could prevail
10:42 nothing, but that rather a tumult was made,
10:45 he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude,
10:49 saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person:
10:53 see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood
10:57 be on us, and on our children. Then released he Barabbas
11:01 unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered
11:04 him to be crucified. Then the soldiers of the governor took
11:10 Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band
11:14 of soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet
11:17 robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it
11:21 upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the
11:24 knee before him, and mocked him saying, Hail, King of the Jews.
11:28 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him
11:31 on the head. And after that they had mocked him,
11:35 the took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him,
11:38 and led him away to crucify him. And as they came out,
11:43 they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name:
11:46 him they compelled to bear his cross. And when they were come
11:50 unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a
11:54 skull, they gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall:
11:58 and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
12:01 And they crucified him, and parted his garments,
12:05 casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken
12:08 by the prophet, They parted my garments among them,
12:12 and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down
12:17 they watched him there; and set up over his head his accusation
12:21 written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
12:25 Then there were two thieves crucified with him, one on the
12:29 right hand, and another on the left. And they that passed by
12:33 reviled him, wagging their heads, and saying, Thou
12:37 that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
12:40 save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross
12:44 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes
12:48 and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
12:52 If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down
12:55 from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God;
12:59 let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I
13:03 am the Son of God. The thieves also, which were crucified with
13:06 him cast the same in his teeth. Now from the sixth hour
13:10 there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
13:14 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,
13:18 Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, My God,
13:25 why hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there,
13:30 when the heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
13:34 And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge,
13:37 and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him
13:40 to drink. The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias
13:44 will come to save him. Jesus, when he had cried again
13:49 with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold,
13:52 the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the
13:57 bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
14:00 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints
14:04 which slept arose, and came out of the graves
14:07 after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared
14:10 unto many. Now when the centurion and they that
14:15 were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake,
14:18 and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying,
14:23 Truly, this was the Son of God. Until we come together again,
14:30 May the love that Jesus showed upon the cross, keep you.
