00:16 Hi, and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and I'll be reading today
00:21 from the King James Version of the Bible. Before we begin
00:24 reading, let's go to God in prayer. O my Father,
00:28 thank you so much that you have given us these words
00:31 that profit us, and are health to us - meat and honey and
00:37 sweet in our mouth and filling us with all good things. Make us
00:41 fit for your service. Please bless us now as we read
00:44 together these words of life. May we give you honor and glory
00:48 in all that we do. We love you so much and we ask all these
00:51 things in the name of Jesus. Amen. I'm reading from the
00:55 King James version, the book of Mark, chapter two
00:59 and beginning with verse 23. And it came to pass that he went
01:04 through the corn fields on the Sabbath day; and his disciples
01:07 began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
01:10 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the
01:15 Sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said unto them,
01:20 Have ye never read what David did, when he had need,
01:23 and was an hungered, he, and they that were with him?
01:26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar
01:29 the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful
01:33 to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were
01:36 with him? And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man,
01:41 and not man for the Sabbath: Therefore the Son of man
01:46 is Lord also of the Sabbath. - I'm reading in the book of Mark,
01:51 chapter 3. - And he entered again into the synagogue;
01:55 and there was a man there which had a withered hand.
01:57 And they watched him, whether he would heal him
02:01 on the Sabbath day; that they might accuse him.
02:03 And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand,
02:06 Stand forth. And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good
02:11 on the Sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill?
02:16 But they held their peace. And when he had looked round about
02:20 on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness
02:24 of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth
02:28 thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored
02:31 whole as the other. And the Pharisees went forth,
02:35 and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him,
02:39 how they might destroy him. But Jesus withdrew himself
02:43 with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from
02:47 Galilee followed him, and from Judea, and from Jerusalem,
02:50 and from Idumea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and
02:55 Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things
02:59 he did, came unto him. And he spake to his disciples,
03:03 that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude,
03:06 lest they should throng him. For he had healed many; insomuch
03:11 that they pressed upon him for to touch him,
03:14 as many as had plagues. And unclean spirits, when they saw
03:18 him fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son
03:21 of God. And he straitly charged them that they should not make
03:25 him known. And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him
03:30 whom he would: and they came unto him. And he ordained 12,
03:35 that they should be with him, and that he might send them
03:38 forth to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses,
03:42 and to cast out devils: And Simon he surnamed Peter;
03:46 and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James;
03:51 and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:
03:57 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew,
04:01 and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus, and
04:06 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed
04:10 him: and they went into an house. And the multitude
04:14 cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat
04:18 bread. And when his friends heard of it, they went out
04:21 to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
04:24 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said,
04:27 He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he
04:31 out devils. And he called them unto him, and said unto them
04:35 in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? And if a kingdom
04:41 be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
04:44 And if a house be divided against itself, that house
04:48 cannot stand. And if Satan rise up against himself,
04:52 and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
04:55 No man can enter into a strong man's house,
04:59 and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man;
05:03 and then he will spoil his house. Verily I say unto you,
05:07 All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies
05:12 wherewithsoever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall
05:16 blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness,
05:19 but is in danger of eternal damnation:
05:22 because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. There came then
05:28 his brethren and his mother, and standing without, sent unto him
05:32 calling him. And the multitude sat about him, and they said
05:35 unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without
05:38 seek for thee. And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother,
05:42 or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat
05:46 about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
05:50 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother,
05:54 and my sister, and mother. - I'm reading from the book of Mark,
06:00 Chapter 4. - And he began again to teach by the sea side:
06:05 and there was gathered unto him a great multitude,
06:09 so that he entered into ship, and sat in the sea;
06:12 and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.
06:15 And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them
06:19 in his doctrine, Hearken; Behold there went out a sower to sow:
06:25 And it came to pass, as he sowed some fell by the way side, and
06:30 the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
06:32 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth;
06:36 and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth
06:40 but when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no
06:44 root, it withered away. And some fell among thorns,
06:48 and the thorns grew up, and choked it,
06:50 and it yielded no fruit. And other fell on good ground,
06:54 and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased;
06:58 and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty,
07:01 and some an hundred. And he said unto them, He that hath ears to
07:05 hear, let him hear. And when he was alone, they that were about
07:10 him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
07:12 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery
07:17 of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without,
07:20 all these things are done in parables:
07:22 that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they
07:27 may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be
07:32 converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
07:34 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable?
07:38 and how then will ye know all parables?
07:41 The sower soweth the word. And these are they by the way side,
07:46 where the word is sown; but when they have heard,
07:50 Satan cometh immediately and taketh away the word
07:53 that was sown in their hearts. And these are they likewise
07:56 which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the
08:00 word, immediately receive it with gladness; and have no root
08:04 in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward,
08:09 when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake,
08:13 immediately they are offended. And these are they which are
08:17 sown among thorns; such as hear the word, and the cares of this
08:22 world and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other
08:25 things entering in, choke the word and it becometh unfruitful.
08:30 And these are they which are sown on good ground;
08:34 such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth
08:38 fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
08:42 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under
08:47 a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
08:51 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested;
08:54 neither was anything kept secret but that it should come abroad.
08:58 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
09:02 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure
09:07 ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear
09:11 shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given:
09:16 and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that
09:20 which he hath. And he said, So is the kingdom of God,
09:24 as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
09:28 and should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should
09:32 spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth
09:38 forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear,
09:41 after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit
09:45 is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle,
09:48 because the harvest is come. And he said, Whereunto shall
09:53 we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we
09:56 compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which,
10:00 when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds
10:03 that be in the earth: But when it is sown, it groweth up, and
10:08 becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches;
10:12 so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
10:16 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them,
10:20 as they were able to hear it. But without a parable spake
10:24 he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all
10:28 things to his disciples. And the same day, when the even was come
10:33 he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
10:36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him
10:40 even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other
10:44 little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and
10:48 the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
10:51 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow:
10:55 and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not
10:59 that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind,
11:03 and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased,
11:09 and there was a great calm. And he said unto them,
11:13 Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
11:17 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another,
11:21 What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea
11:25 obey him? - I'm reading in the book of Mark, chapter 5.
11:29 And they had came over unto the other side of the sea,
11:34 into the country of the Gadarenes.
11:37 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him
11:41 out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
11:43 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him
11:47 no, not with chains: because that he had been often bound
11:52 with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder
11:55 by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man
11:59 tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains
12:03 and in the tombs, crying and cutting himself with stones.
12:07 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
12:11 and cried with a loud voice and said, What have I to do
12:14 with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure
12:18 the by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him,
12:22 Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked
12:27 him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying,
12:30 My name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much
12:34 that he would not send them away out of the country.
12:37 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of
12:41 swine feeding. And all the devils besought him,
12:44 saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
12:47 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits
12:53 went out, and entered into the swine and the herd ran violently
12:57 down a steep place into the sea they were about two thousand;
13:00 and were choked in the sea. And they that fed the swine fled,
13:06 and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out
13:09 to see what it was that was done. And they come to Jesus,
13:14 and see him that was possessed with the devil,
13:16 and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind:
13:21 and they were afraid. And they that saw it told them
13:25 how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil,
13:28 and also concerning the swine. And they began to pray him to
13:32 depart out of their coasts. And when he was come into the ship,
13:35 he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he
13:39 might be with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not,
13:43 but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how
13:48 great things the Lord hath done for thee and hath had compassion
13:51 on thee. And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis
13:55 how great things Jesus has done for him: and all men did marvel.
14:00 And when Jess was passed over again by ship unto the other
14:04 side, much people gathered unto him and he was nigh unto the sea
14:09 and behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue,
14:12 Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet.
14:16 and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter
14:19 lieth at the point of death: I pray thee,
14:22 come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed;
14:26 and she shall live. - Thank you for joining me for the reading
14:30 of God's word. Until we're together again,
14:33 May God keep you in His care.
