00:17 Hi, I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining me today
00:20 for His Words are Life. Today we are going to be reading
00:23 some of the most beautiful words about the incredible gift
00:26 of eternal life that God has made possible to us and then
00:30 how we should conduct ourselves and behave,
00:33 knowing that we have been given this gift
00:35 that we are so unworthy of. But before we read these words,
00:38 let's go to him in prayer. Oh, heavenly Father thank you
00:42 for sending us your son. Thank you, Jesus, for dying for us and
00:47 for making it possible for all who believe in you
00:50 to be with you forever. Please send your Holy Spirit to bless
00:55 us as we read these words. May we not only hear them:
00:58 but may they bear fruit in our lives, to your honor
01:01 and glory. We love you. Amen I'm reading today from the
01:06 King James version, the book of Mark, chapter 9 and beginning
01:10 with verse 49. - For everyone shall be salted with fire, and
01:15 every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. Salt is good: but if
01:19 the salt have lost his saltiness wherewith will ye season it?
01:23 Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
01:28 This is Mark, chapter 10. - And he arose from thence,
01:34 and cometh into the coasts of Judea by the farther side of
01:37 Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and as he was
01:41 wont, he taught them again. And the Pharisees came to him,
01:44 and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife?
01:48 tempting him. And he answered and said unto them,
01:52 What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered
01:57 to write a bill of divorcement and to put her away.
02:00 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness
02:04 of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning
02:07 of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause
02:12 shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to
02:15 his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are
02:20 no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined
02:25 together, let not man put asunder. And in the house
02:29 his disciples asked him again of the same matter. And he saith
02:33 unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another,
02:37 committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put
02:41 away her husband, and be married to another,
02:44 she committeth adultery. And they brought young children
02:47 to him that he should touch them: and his disciples
02:51 rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was
02:55 much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children
02:59 to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom
03:03 of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive
03:08 the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter
03:11 therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon
03:16 them and blessed them. And when he was gone forth into the way,
03:20 there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him.
03:23 Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
03:28 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good?
03:33 there is none good but one, that is, God.
03:36 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not
03:40 kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not,
03:45 Honor thy father and mother. And he answered and said
03:49 unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
03:52 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him,
03:58 One thing thou lackest; go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast,
04:04 and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:
04:08 and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad
04:13 at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great
04:17 possessions. And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his
04:21 disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter
04:25 into the kingdom of God! And the disciples were astonished
04:28 at his words. But Jesus answereth again,
04:31 and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them
04:34 that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God.
04:38 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle,
04:42 than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
04:45 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves
04:50 Who then can be saved? And Jesus looking upon them saith,
04:55 With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God
05:00 all things are possible. Then Peter began to say unto him,
05:05 Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
05:09 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is
05:14 no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father,
05:18 or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake,
05:23 and the gospel's, but he shall receive and hundredfold now
05:26 in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters,
05:29 and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions;
05:32 and in the world to come eternal life. But many that are first
05:38 shall be last; and the last first.
05:40 And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went
05:45 before: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were
05:48 afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them
05:52 what things should happen unto him, saying, Behold, we go up to
05:56 Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the
06:00 chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn
06:03 him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: And they
06:06 shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit
06:09 upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall
06:12 rise again. And James and John, the sons of Zebedee,
06:17 come unto them, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest
06:21 do for us whatsoever we shall desire. And he said unto them,
06:25 What would ye that I should do for you? They said unto him,
06:30 Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand,
06:34 and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory. But Jesus said
06:41 unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup
06:45 that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism
06:48 that I am baptized with? And they said unto him,
06:51 We can. And Jesus said unto them
06:54 Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the
06:59 baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized
07:02 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine
07:06 give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
07:10 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased
07:16 with James and John. But Jesus called them to him, and saith
07:20 unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule
07:25 over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them;
07:28 and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
07:31 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great
07:36 among you shall be your minister: And whosoever
07:41 of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
07:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but
07:50 to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
07:54 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho
07:58 with his disciples and a great number of people,
08:01 blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway
08:05 beside begging. And when he head that it was Jesus
08:09 of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, Jesus thou son of David
08:13 have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should
08:17 hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal,
08:20 Thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still,
08:25 and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man,
08:28 saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise: he calleth thee.
08:32 And he, casting away his garment rose, and came to Jesus.
08:36 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou
08:40 that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him,
08:43 Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him,
08:48 Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately
08:53 he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
08:56 I'm reading from the book of Mark, chapter eleven.
08:59 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage
09:04 and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two
09:07 of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go your way into the
09:11 village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it
09:15 ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat;
09:19 loose him, and bring him. And if any man say unto you, Why do
09:24 ye this, say ye that the Lord hath need of him;
09:28 and straightway he will send him hither. And they went
09:32 their way and found the colt tied by the door
09:35 without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.
09:38 And certain of them that stood there said unto them,
09:41 What do ye, loosing the colt? And they said unto them
09:45 even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go. And they
09:49 brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him;
09:52 and he sat upon him. And many spread their garments in the way
09:56 and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them
09:59 in the way. And they that went before, and they that followed,
10:03 cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name
10:07 of the Lord: Blessed be the kingdom of our father David,
10:11 that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
10:14 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem and into the temple: and when he
10:19 had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide
10:22 was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
10:25 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany,
10:29 he was hungry: And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves;
10:33 he came if haply he might find anything thereon: and when he
10:38 came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs
10:41 was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it,
10:45 No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever.
10:49 And his disciples heard it. And they come to Jerusalem:
10:54 and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them
10:57 that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew
11:00 the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them
11:03 that sold doves; And would not suffer that any man should
11:06 carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying
11:10 unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called
11:13 of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it
11:17 a den of thieves. And the scribes and chief priests
11:21 heard it and sought how they might destroy him: for they
11:25 feared him, because all the people were astonished
11:27 at his doctrine. And when even was come, he went
11:30 out of the city. And in the morning, as they passed by,
11:34 they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
11:38 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold,
11:43 the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
11:46 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
11:51 For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this
11:55 mountain, Be thou removed, and be cast into the sea;
11:59 and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe
12:02 that those things which he saith shall come to pass;
12:05 he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you,
12:10 What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye
12:15 receive them and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying,
12:19 forgive if ye have aught against any: that your Father also which
12:24 is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
12:27 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father
12:31 which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. And they come again
12:35 to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple,
12:37 there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes,
12:40 and the elders, and say unto him, By what authority
12:44 doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority
12:47 to do these things? And Jesus answered and said unto them,
12:51 I will also ask of you one question, and answer me,
12:56 and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
12:58 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
13:03 Answer me. And they reasoned with themselves, saying,
13:07 If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye
13:11 not believe him? But if we shall say, Of men;
13:14 they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was
13:18 a prophet indeed. And they answered and said unto Jesus,
13:21 We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them,
13:25 Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
13:29 I'm reading from the book of Mark, chapter twelve.
13:33 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man
13:37 planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a
13:41 place for the winevat, and built a tower, and let it out
13:44 to husbandmen, and went into a far country. And at the season
13:48 he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive
13:51 from the husbandmen the fruit of the vineyard.
13:53 And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
13:57 And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him
14:01 they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him
14:04 away shamefully handled. And again he sent another;
14:09 and him they killed, and many others; beating some,
14:12 and killing some. Having yet therefore one son,
14:17 his well beloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying,
14:21 They will reverence my son. - Thank you again for joining me
14:27 today to read His Words are Life.
14:29 Until we're together again, May God bless you
14:32 and keep you in his care. Goodbye.
