00:15 Hi, and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining me today. 00:21 We'll be reading from the King James version of the Bible, 00:24 But before we read let's go to Him in prayer. 00:26 Dear God, thank you so much for giving us your word. 00:31 to comfort and strengthen and encourage us to assure us that 00:35 because of the great love of you and your son, we have a 00:38 life with you for all eternity. Please be with us now as we 00:43 read. Help us to understand what we read and may it bear fruit 00:46 in our lives. We love you. Amen. 00:48 When last we read, it was the story of the crucifixion. 00:53 Jesus had been laid to rest in the tomb and a heavy stone 00:56 had been put in front of the entry. And early on the first 00:59 day of the week some women came to anoint him with spices, and 01:03 wondered how they were going to move the stone; 01:04 But when they arrived, they found that the stone was already 01:07 removed. We're picking up now again in Mark, chapter 16, 01:12 verse 5. And entering into the sepulcher, they saw a young man 01:18 sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; 01:21 and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, 01:24 Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified 01:29 He is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they 01:33 laid him. But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter 01:38 that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, 01:42 as he said unto you. And they went out quickly, and fled 01:46 from the sepulcher; for they trembled and were amazed: 01:49 neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid. 01:53 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, 01:58 he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom 02:02 he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them 02:06 that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 02:09 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been 02:13 seen of her, believed not. After that he appeared 02:18 in another form unto two of them, as they walked, 02:20 and went into the country. And they went and told it unto the 02:24 residue: neither believed they them. Afterward he appeared 02:30 unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them 02:34 with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed 02:38 not them which had seen him after he was risen. 02:41 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach 02:45 the gospel to every creature. He that believeth 02:49 and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not 02:53 shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that 02:57 believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; 03:00 they shall speak with new tongues; 03:02 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly 03:05 thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick 03:09 and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken 03:13 unto them, he was received up into heaven, 03:16 and sat on the right hand of God and they went forth, 03:20 and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, 03:23 and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. 03:27 And now reading the Gospel according to Luke, 03:31 beginning with chapter one. Forasmuch as many have taken 03:37 in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things 03:41 which are most surely believed among us, 03:43 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning 03:46 were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; it seemed good 03:49 to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things 03:53 from the very first, to write unto thee in order, 03:57 most excellent Theophilus, that thou mightest know 04:00 the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been 04:04 instructed. There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea 04:08 a certain priest named Zacharias of the course of Abia: 04:12 and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, 04:15 and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous 04:19 before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances 04:22 of the Lord blameless. And they had no child, 04:25 because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were 04:29 now well stricken in years. And it came to pass, 04:32 that while he executed the priest's office before God 04:36 in the order of his course, According to the custom 04:39 of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense 04:43 when he went into the temple of the Lord. 04:45 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without 04:49 at the time of incense. And there appeared unto him 04:52 an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar 04:56 of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, 04:59 and fear fell upon him. But the angel said unto him, 05:04 fear not Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife 05:08 Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name 05:12 John. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; 05:15 and many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great 05:18 in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine 05:21 nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, 05:25 even from his mother's womb. And many of the children of Israel 05:29 shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him 05:34 in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts 05:37 of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient 05:40 to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared 05:44 for the Lord. And Zacharias said unto the angel, 05:48 Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife 05:52 well stricken in years. And the angel answering said unto him, 05:57 I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent 06:02 to speak unto thee, and to shew the these glad tidings. 06:04 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, 06:09 until the day that that these things shall be performed, 06:12 because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled 06:16 in their season. And the people waited for Zacharias, 06:21 and marveled that he tarried so long in the temple. 06:23 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: 06:27 and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: 06:30 for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless. 06:33 and it came to pass, that as soon as the days of 06:37 his ministration were accomplished, 06:39 he departed to his own house. And after those days his wife 06:43 Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, 06:48 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he 06:51 looked on me, to take away my reproach among men. 06:54 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God 06:59 unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 07:01 to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, 07:05 of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 07:09 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, 07:12 thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: 07:16 blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, 07:20 she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner 07:24 of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, 07:28 Fear not Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. 07:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, 07:35 and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 07:39 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: 07:43 and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father 07:47 David: and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; 07:52 and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 07:55 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know 08:00 not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, 08:04 The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, 08:07 and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: 08:10 therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee 08:13 shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin 08:19 Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: 08:23 and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 08:27 For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, 08:32 Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me 08:37 according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. 08:40 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country 08:45 with haste, into a city of Judah and entered into the house of 08:48 Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that 08:53 when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary 08:55 the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with 08:58 the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said 09:02 blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy 09:06 womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord 09:11 should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice 09:14 of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped 09:18 in my womb for joy. And blessed is she that believed: for there 09:22 shall be a performance of those things which were told her 09:25 from the Lord. And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord. 09:30 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath 09:34 regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, 09:37 from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 09:40 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; 09:43 and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear 09:48 him from generation to generation. 09:50 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered 09:54 the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down 09:57 the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 10:00 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich 10:04 he hath sent empty away. He hath helpen his servant Israel, 10:08 in remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, 10:12 to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. And Mary abode with her 10:17 about three months, and returned to her own house. 10:20 Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; 10:25 and she brought forth a son. And her neighbors and her cousins 10:29 heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and 10:32 they rejoiced with her. And it came to pass, 10:36 that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; 10:39 and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 10:42 And his mother answered and said, Not so; 10:45 but he shall be called John. And they said unto her, 10:49 There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. 10:52 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him 10:56 called. And he asked for a writing table, and wrote 10:59 saying, His name is John. And they marveled all. 11:04 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue 11:08 was loosed, and he spake, and praised God. 11:10 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: 11:14 and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout 11:17 all the hill country of Judea. And all they that heard them 11:21 laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child 11:24 shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him. 11:27 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, 11:31 and prophesied, saying, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; 11:35 for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 11:38 and hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house 11:41 of his servant David; As he spake by the mouth of his 11:45 holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 11:49 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of 11:52 all that hate us; to perform the mercy promised to our fathers, 11:57 and to remember his holy covenant; 11:59 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 12:01 that he would grant unto us, that we being delivered 12:05 out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 12:09 in holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of 12:12 our life. And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet 12:16 of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord 12:19 to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation 12:23 unto his people by the remission of their sins, 12:25 through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring 12:30 from on high hath visited us, to give light to them 12:33 that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, 12:36 to guide our feet into the way of peace. 12:39 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, 12:43 and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel. 12:47 I'm reading from the book of Luke, chapter two. 12:51 And it came to pass in those days, 12:55 that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, 12:58 that all the world should be taxed. - And this taxing 13:01 was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. - 13:04 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 13:08 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, 13:10 out of the city of Nazareth, unto Judaea, unto the city 13:14 of David, which is called Bethlehem; 13:16 because he was of the house and lineage of David: 13:19 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, 13:23 being great with child And so it was, that, 13:27 while they were there, the days were accomplished 13:29 that she should be delivered. And she brought forth 13:32 her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, 13:35 and laid him in a manger; because there was no room 13:38 for them in the inn. And there were in the same country 13:41 shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock 13:45 by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, 13:48 and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: 13:51 and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 13:55 Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, 13:59 which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day 14:03 in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 14:07 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe 14:12 wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 14:15 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude 14:19 of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14:22 Glory to God in the highest, and on the earth peace, good will 14:27 toward men. - Thank you for joining me today, 14:31 for the reading of the word of God. Goodbye. |
