00:17 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and I'll be reading today 00:20 from the King James Version, sometimes, we talk about the 00:25 word and hearing the word of the Lord and letting it take root 00:28 in our hearts, and today, Jesus tells what the person is like 00:32 who actually does hear the word, and do the word. 00:34 We're going to read that coming up here but before we begin 00:37 to read let's go to God in prayer. - Dear Heavenly Father, 00:41 thank you so much for the blessings 00:43 that you have given to us, for bringing us safely to this 00:46 point where we can come into your presence and read your word 00:49 and we want to be not just hearers of the word, 00:53 but doers of the word. We want to be the wise man who builds 00:56 his house on the rock, the solid rock of your word of life. 01:00 Be with us now and thank you again. We love you. Amen 01:04 I'm reading today from the book of Luke, starting in chapter 6 01:10 and verse 45. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart, 01:17 bringeth forth that which is good. 01:19 And an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart, 01:24 bringeth forth that which is evil. For the abundance of 01:28 the heart his mouth speaketh. And why call ye me Lord, Lord, 01:33 and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me 01:39 and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to 01:43 whom he is like: He like a man which built an house, and digged 01:47 deep and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose 01:51 the stream beat vehemently upon that house and could not shake 01:55 it, for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, 02:00 and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation 02:04 built an house upon the earth: against which the stream 02:08 did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; 02:11 and the ruin of that house was great. 02:14 Again, I'm reading from the gospel of Luke, 02:17 and we're now on chapter 7. Now when he had ended all 02:22 his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into 02:25 Capernaum. And a certain centurion's servant, 02:28 who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. 02:31 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders 02:35 of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal 02:39 his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they besought him 02:43 instantly, saying, That he was worthy 02:45 for whom he should do this: For he loveth our nation, 02:47 and he hath built us a synagogue. 02:49 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far 02:54 from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto 02:58 him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou 03:03 shouldest enter under my roof: Wherefore neither thought I 03:06 myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word and my servant 03:10 shall be healed. For I also am a man set under authority, 03:14 having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he Goethe; 03:18 and to another, come, and he cometh; and to my servant, 03:22 Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard these things, 03:26 he marvelled at him, and turned him about, 03:29 and said unto the people that followed him, 03:31 I say unto you, I have not found so great faith no not in Israel. 03:37 And they that were sent, returning to the house 03:41 found the servant whole that had been sick. 03:44 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city 03:49 called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, 03:52 and much people. Now when he came nigh to the gate 03:56 of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, 03:59 the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; 04:03 and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw 04:07 her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. 04:12 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him 04:16 stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. 04:21 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. 04:25 And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear 04:30 on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet 04:34 is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited 04:38 his people. And this rumour of him went forth throughtout 04:42 all Judea, and throughout all the region round about. 04:45 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things. 04:50 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus 04:54 saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? 04:58 When the men were come unto him, they said, 05:01 John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, 05:05 Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? 05:08 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities 05:13 and plagues, and of evil spirits and unto many that were blind 05:17 he gave sight. Then Jesus answering said unto them 05:21 Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; 05:26 how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, 05:31 the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel 05:35 is preached. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended 05:40 in me. And when the messengers of John were departed, 05:45 he began to speak unto the people concerning John, 05:48 What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? 05:52 A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? 05:57 A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold they which are gorgeously 06:01 appareled, and live delicately, are in kings courts. 06:05 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say 06:10 unto you, and much more than a prophet. This is he, of whom 06:14 it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, 06:18 which shall prepare thy way before thee. 06:21 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women 06:26 there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: 06:29 but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater 06:33 than he. And all the people that heard him and the publicans, 06:37 justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. 06:42 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God 06:47 against themselves, being not baptized of him. 06:51 And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of 06:56 generation? and to what are they like? They are like unto 06:59 children sitting in the marketplace, and calling 07:02 one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, 07:05 and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not 07:08 wept. For John the Baptist came neither eating bread 07:12 nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil. The son of man 07:17 has come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous 07:21 man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! 07:24 But wisdom is justified of all her children. 07:28 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. 07:32 And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. 07:35 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, 07:40 when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, 07:44 brought an alabaster box of ointment, and stood at his feet 07:49 behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, 07:53 and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet 07:57 and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee 08:01 which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, 08:05 This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what 08:09 manner of woman this is that toucheth him for she is a sinner 08:14 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat 08:19 to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. 08:23 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: 08:27 the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. 08:32 and when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them 08:36 both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? 08:40 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, 08:45 to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, 08:48 Thou hast rightly judged. And he turned to the woman, and 08:53 said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? 08:56 I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water 09:00 for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped 09:05 them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss: 09:09 but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased 09:13 to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint; 09:18 but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore 09:23 I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; 09:27 for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, 09:31 the same loveth little And he said unto her, 09:35 Thy sins are forgiven. And they that sat at meat with him 09:39 began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins 09:43 also? And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; 09:48 go in peace. - I'm reading from the gospel of Luke, chapter 8 09:53 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every 09:57 city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the 10:01 kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, and certain women 10:05 which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary 10:09 called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, and Joanna 10:13 the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, 10:17 and many others which ministered unto him of their substance. 10:20 And when much people were gathered together, and were 10:24 come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: 10:27 A sower went out to sow his seed and as he sowed, some fell 10:32 by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls 10:36 of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon 10:40 as it was sprung up it withered away, because it lacked moisture 10:44 and some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, 10:49 and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, 10:54 and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these 10:59 things he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 11:03 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable 11:07 be? And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of 11:12 the kingdom of God but to others in parables; that seeing 11:17 they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. 11:20 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 11:24 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil 11:30 and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should 11:34 believe and be saved. They on the rock are they, which, 11:39 when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root 11:43 which for a while believe and in time of temptation fall away. 11:48 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have 11:53 heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches 11:57 and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 12:01 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest 12:05 and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, 12:09 and bring forth fruit with patience. No man, 12:13 when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, 12:16 or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, 12:20 that they which enter in may see the light. For nothing is 12:25 secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, 12:29 that shall not be known and come abroad. Take heed therefore 12:33 how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; 12:37 and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that 12:41 which he seemeth to have. Then came to him his mother 12:45 and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press. 12:48 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother 12:52 and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. 12:54 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren 12:59 are these which hear the word of God, and do it. 13:03 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship 13:08 with his disciples: and he said said unto them. Let us go over 13:11 unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. 13:14 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a 13:18 storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, 13:22 and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, 13:25 saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose 13:29 and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: 13:32 and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, 13:37 Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying, 13:42 one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth 13:46 even the winds and water, and they obey him. And they arrived 13:50 at the country of the Gadarenes which is over against Galilee. 13:54 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city 13:57 a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, 14:02 neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, 14:06 he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud 14:10 voice said, What have I to do with thee Jesus, thou Son of God 14:14 most high, I beseech thee, torment me not. 14:17 for he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. 14:21 for oftentimes it had caught him and he was kept bound with 14:24 chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven 14:27 of the devil into the wilderness. - Thank you 14:30 for joining with me today to read the word of God. Goodbye. |
