00:16 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we'll be reading
00:20 from the Gospel of Luke in the King James version.
00:22 The last time we read, there was the story of how Jesus' mother
00:27 and brothers came to see him. And some people came in to tell
00:31 Jesus that his family was waiting outside and Jesus
00:34 answered, My family are those who hear my words and do them.
00:38 And I thought, often of the prayer we pray together
00:42 as we begin to read that the word will take root in our heart
00:45 we will be come God's family by both hearing the word
00:48 and doing it. Let's pray together now.
00:50 Dear Father, thank you that we can be the sons and daughters
00:54 of God through the blood of Jesus. And that by hearing
00:58 your Word and by doing it, we will be your family.
01:01 Please keep us now as we study this Word together.
01:05 Keep our hearts and send the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom.
01:08 Thank you so much. We love you. Amen.
01:12 I'm reading in the gospel of Luke, chapter 8 and starting
01:17 with verse 30. Jesus has just come ashore and been met by
01:21 a man possessed by devils. - And Jesus asked him saying,
01:25 What is thy name? And he answered, Legion, because
01:30 many devils were entered into him. And they besought him
01:34 that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
01:36 And there was there an herd of many swine, feeding on the
01:40 mountain. And they besought him that he would suffer them
01:43 to enter into them. And he suffered them.
01:46 Then went the devils out of the man and entered into the swine
01:50 and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake,
01:54 and were choked. When they that fed them saw what was done,
01:58 they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
02:02 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus,
02:07 and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed,
02:09 sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind:
02:14 and they were afraid. They also which saw it told them
02:19 by what means he that was possessed of the devils
02:22 was healed. Then the whole multitude of the country
02:25 of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from
02:28 them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into
02:32 the ship, and returned back again. Now the man out of whom
02:37 the devils were departed besought him that he might
02:41 be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to thine
02:46 own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee.
02:51 And he went his way, and published throughout the
02:55 whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
02:59 And it came to pass, that when Jesus was returned, the people
03:04 gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
03:07 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler
03:12 of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet,
03:15 and besought him that he would come into his house:
03:17 for he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age,
03:21 and she lay a-dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
03:26 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had
03:31 spent all her living upon physicians, neither could
03:34 be healed of any, came behind him, and touched the border
03:38 of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
03:43 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they
03:48 that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and
03:52 press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me: and Jesus said,
03:56 Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone
04:00 out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she
04:04 came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto
04:08 him before all the people for what cause she had touched him,
04:12 and how she was healed immediately. And he said
04:16 unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made
04:20 thee whole; go in peace. While he yet spake,
04:24 there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's
04:27 house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead;
04:30 trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him
04:34 saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
04:39 And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in,
04:43 save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother
04:46 of the maiden. And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said,
04:51 Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed
04:56 him to scorn, knowing that she was dead, and he put them all
04:59 out and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.
05:03 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he
05:09 commanded to give her meat. And her parents were astonished:
05:13 but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done
05:17 I'm reading in the gospel of Luke, chapter 9.
05:21 Then he called his 12 disciples together, and gave them power
05:26 and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
05:29 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the
05:33 sick. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey,
05:36 neither staves, nor script, neither bread, neither money
05:40 neither have two coats apiece. And whatsoever house ye enter
05:44 into, there abide, and thence depart. And whosoever will
05:49 not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very
05:53 dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
05:56 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching
06:00 the gospel, and healing every where.
06:02 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him:
06:06 and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that
06:09 John was risen from the dead; And of some, that Elias had
06:13 appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets
06:15 was risen again. And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who
06:20 is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to
06:23 see him. And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all
06:28 that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately
06:32 into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
06:37 And the people, when they knew it followed him: and he received
06:42 them and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them
06:45 that had need of healing. And when the day began to wear away
06:49 then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude
06:53 away that they may go into the towns, and country round about
06:57 and lodge and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.
07:01 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said,
07:07 We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should
07:11 go and buy meat for all this people. For they were about
07:14 five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit
07:19 down by fifties in a company. And they did so,
07:22 and made them all sit down. Then he took the five loaves
07:26 and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them,
07:29 and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the
07:33 multitude. And they did eat, and were all filled:
07:36 and there was taken up of the fragments that remained to
07:40 them twelve baskets. And it came to pass, as was alone praying,
07:46 his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying,
07:49 Whom say the people that I am? They answering said,
07:54 John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say,
07:57 that one of the old prophets is risen again. He said unto them,
08:02 But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said,
08:07 The Christ of God. And he straightly charged them,
08:11 and commanded them to tell no man that thing; saying,
08:14 the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected
08:18 of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain,
08:22 and be raised the third day. And he said to them all,
08:26 If any man will come after me, let him deny himself,
08:29 and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will
08:33 save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life
08:37 for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged
08:42 if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
08:45 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him
08:50 shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own
08:54 glory, and in his Father's and of the holy angels.
08:57 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here,
09:01 which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God
09:05 And it came to pass about an 8 days after these sayings,
09:10 he took Peter and John and James and went up into a mountain
09:13 to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance
09:18 was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
09:21 And, behold, there talked with him two men,
09:24 which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of
09:29 his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
09:32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep.
09:38 and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men
09:42 that stood with him. And it came to pass,
09:45 as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master,
09:49 it is good for us to be here: and let us make 3 tabernacles;
09:53 one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias:
09:56 not knowing what he said. While he thus spake there came a cloud
10:02 and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered
10:06 into the cloud. And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying,
10:09 This is my beloved Son: hear him. And when the voice was past
10:15 Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man
10:20 in those days any of those things which they had seen.
10:23 And it came to pass, that on the next day,
10:26 when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.
10:30 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying,
10:34 Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son:
10:37 for he is mine only child. And lo, a spirit taketh him,
10:41 and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth
10:45 again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.
10:49 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not
10:53 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse
10:58 generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you?
11:01 Bring thy son hither. And as he was yet a-coming the devil
11:07 threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean
11:11 spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again
11:15 to his father. And they were all amazed at the mighty power
11:19 of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which
11:23 Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, Let these sayings
11:28 sink down into your ears for the Son of man shall be delivered
11:32 into the hands of men. But they understood not this saying,
11:36 and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not:
11:39 and they feared to ask him of that saying. Then there arose
11:44 a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.
11:47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart,
11:51 took a child, and set him by him. and said unto them,
11:56 Whosoever shall receive this child in my name
11:59 receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him
12:04 that sent me: for he that is least among you all,
12:07 the same shall be great. And John answered and said,
12:12 Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name:
12:16 and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
12:18 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not:
12:22 for he that is not against us is for us. And it came to pass,
12:27 when the time was come that he should be received up,
12:30 he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
12:34 and sent messengers before his face: and they went,
12:37 and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready
12:41 for him. And they did not receive him, because his face
12:44 was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
12:47 And when his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said,
12:51 Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven,
12:55 and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked
13:00 them and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
13:04 For the son of man is not come to destroy men's lives,
13:09 but to save them. And they went to another village.
13:12 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way,
13:16 a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee
13:20 whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him.
13:23 Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests;
13:26 but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
13:30 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said,
13:35 Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
13:37 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead:
13:41 but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
13:44 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee;
13:48 but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home
13:51 at my house. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand
13:56 to the plough, and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.
14:00 I'm reading in the gospel of Luke, chapter 10.
14:03 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also
14:08 and sent them two and two before his face into every city
14:13 and place, whither he himself would come.
14:16 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great,
14:19 but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord
14:23 of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers
14:26 into his harvest. - Thank you for joining with me today
14:30 to read the word of God. God Bless you. Goodbye.
