00:16 Hi, and thank you for joining me today
00:18 for the reading of God's word. I'm Kelly Mowrer, 00:21 and this is HIS WORDS ARE LIFE 00:22 Before we go to the word of God, let's go to him in prayer 00:25 together. Dear Heavenly Father Thank you for bringing us here 00:30 today, to read your word and you promised us that if we will 00:34 hide your word in our heart, we won't sin against you. 00:37 We want to be close to you. We don't want our sins separating 00:40 us from your presence and from your blessings. 00:44 So help us to hide these words in our heart. May they bear 00:47 fruit to your glory. We love you, Amen. 00:50 I'm reading today from the King James Version. 00:53 This is the gospel of Luke, chapter 13, verse 34, 00:58 and we're starting right in the middle of verse 34. 01:01 How often would I have gathered thy children together as a hen 01:05 doth gather her brood under her wings. But ye would not. 01:09 Behold your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say 01:14 unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time when ye shall 01:17 say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. 01:21 Again, reading from the gospel of Luke, now chapter 14. 01:26 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the 01:29 chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath day, 01:32 that they watched him. And behold, there was a certain man 01:35 before him which had the dropsy. And Jesus answering, spake unto 01:40 the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal 01:42 on the Sabbath day? And they held their peace. 01:46 And he took him and healed him, and let him go; and answered 01:50 them saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into 01:54 a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day? 01:58 And they could not answer him again to these things. 02:01 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, 02:05 when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; 02:08 saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, 02:12 sit not down in the highest room lest a more honourable man 02:17 than thou be bidden of him. and he that bade thee and him come 02:22 and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame 02:26 to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, 02:29 Go and sit down in the lowest room that when he that bade thee 02:34 cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: 02:37 then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit 02:41 at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself 02:44 shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself 02:47 shall be exalted. Then said he also unto him that bade him, 02:53 When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, 02:57 nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors 03:00 lest they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee. 03:04 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, 03:09 the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; 03:12 For they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed 03:16 at the resurrection of the just. And when one of them that sat 03:20 at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, 03:23 Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. 03:27 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper 03:31 and bade many: and sent his servant at supper time to say to 03:35 them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 03:38 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. 03:43 The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, 03:46 and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 03:50 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to 03:55 prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, 04:00 I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. 04:02 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. 04:06 Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, 04:10 Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, 04:13 and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt 04:16 and the blind. And the servant said, Lord it is done as thou 04:20 hast commanded, and yet there is room. And the lord said unto 04:24 the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, 04:27 and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 04:30 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden 04:34 shall taste of my supper. And there went great multitudes 04:38 with him: and he turned and said unto them, If any man come to me 04:42 and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, 04:46 and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, 04:50 he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever does not bear 04:54 his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 04:57 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down 05:02 first and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient 05:06 to finish it? lest haply, after he hath laid the 05:09 foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it 05:13 begin to mock him, saying, This man began to build, 05:16 and was not able to finish. Or what king, going to make war 05:23 against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth 05:26 whether he be able with 10,000 to meet him that cometh against 05:30 him with 20,000? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off 05:34 he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. 05:38 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that 05:43 he hath, he cannot be my disciple. 05:46 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savor, 05:50 wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, 05:53 nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. 05:57 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 06:00 We're reading in the gospel of Luke, chapter fifteen. 06:04 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners 06:09 for to hear him. And the Pharisees and scribes 06:12 murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth 06:15 with them. And he spake this parable unto them, saying, 06:19 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one 06:23 of them, doth not leave the ninety & nine in the wilderness, 06:27 and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 06:30 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, 06:33 rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together 06:37 his friends and neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice 06:39 with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 06:42 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over 06:47 one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine 06:50 just persons, which need no repentance. 06:53 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver if she lose one 06:58 piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, 07:02 and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath 07:05 found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbors 07:07 together, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece 07:10 which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy 07:14 in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner 07:18 that repenteth. And he said, a certain man had two sons: 07:22 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the 07:27 portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them 07:30 his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered 07:34 it all together, and took his journey into a far country, 07:37 and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 07:41 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine 07:45 in that land; and he began to be in want. 07:48 And he went and joined himself to a 07:51 citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields 07:54 to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly 07:58 with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto 08:01 him. And when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants 08:06 of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish 08:10 with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say 08:15 unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 08:19 and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one 08:23 of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. 08:27 But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had 08:32 compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 08:36 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against 08:41 heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called 08:45 thy son. But the father said to his servants, 08:48 Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring 08:51 on his hand, and shoes on his feet: and bring hither 08:54 the fatted calf and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry. 08:58 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, 09:02 and is found. And they began to be merry. Now his elder son 09:06 was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, 09:09 he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants, 09:12 and asked what these things meant. And he said unto him, 09:15 Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted 09:18 calf because he hath received him safe and sound. 09:20 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his 09:25 father out, and entreated him. And he answering said 09:29 to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, 09:32 neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: 09:35 and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry 09:39 with my friends: But as soon as this thy son was come 09:42 which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed 09:45 for him the fatted calf. And he said unto him, Son, thou art 09:51 ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet 09:55 that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother 09:58 was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. 10:02 I am reading from the gospel of Luke, chapter sixteen. 10:06 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain 10:10 rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused 10:13 unto him that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and 10:17 said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? 10:20 Give an account of thy stewardship; 10:22 for thou mayest be no longer steward. Then the steward 10:26 said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away 10:30 from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. 10:34 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out 10:38 of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. 10:40 So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, 10:45 and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? 10:48 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, 10:53 Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. 10:56 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, 11:01 An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, 11:04 Take thy bill and write fourscore. 11:06 And the lord commended the unjust steward, 11:09 because he had done wisely: for the children of this world 11:13 are, in their generation wiser than the children of light. 11:16 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon 11:22 of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you 11:25 into everlasting habitations. He that is faithful in that which 11:30 is least is faithful also in much. And he that is unjust 11:35 in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not 11:41 been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your 11:46 trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that 11:51 which is another man's who shall give you that which is your own? 11:54 No servant can serve two masters for either he will hate the one, 11:59 and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise 12:03 the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 12:06 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, 12:09 heard all these things: and they derided him. And he said 12:14 unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; 12:18 but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed 12:22 among men is abomination in the sight of God. 12:25 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the 12:30 kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. 12:33 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle 12:37 of the law to fail. Whosoever putteth away his wife, 12:41 and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever 12:45 marrieth her that is put away from her husband 12:48 committeth adultery. There was a certain rich man, which was 12:53 clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously 12:56 every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, 13:00 which was laid at his gate, full of sores. And desiring to be fed 13:04 with crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: 13:06 Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 13:09 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried 13:12 by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, 13:16 and was buried: And in hell he lift up his eyes, 13:20 being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus 13:24 in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, 13:27 have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip 13:31 of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented 13:34 in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy 13:40 lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus 13:43 evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou 13:47 art tormented. And beside all this, between us any you 13:51 there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass 13:54 from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, 13:58 that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee 14:01 therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's 14:05 house: for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, 14:08 lest they also come into this place of torment. 14:11 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; 14:15 let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham, 14:19 but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 14:21 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, 14:25 neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. 14:29 Thank you for joining me today for the reading 14:32 of the word of God.
