00:15 Hi, and thank you for joining me today for the reading
00:19 of God's word.
00:20 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and this is His Words Are Life.
00:23 Before we go to the word of God, let's go to Him in prayer
00:25 together.
00:26 Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing us here today
00:31 to read Your word.
00:32 You've promised us that if we will hide Your word in our heart
00:36 we won't sin against You.
00:37 We want to be close to You.
00:38 We don't want our sins separating us from your
00:42 presence and from Your blessings, so help us to hide
00:45 these words in our heart,
00:46 and may they bear fruit o Your glory.
00:48 We love You.
00:49 Amen.
00:51 I'm reading today from the King James Version,
00:53 and this is the gospel of Luke, chapter 13, verse 34, and we're
00:58 starting right in the middle of verse 34.
01:00 how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen
01:05 doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
01:09 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say
01:14 unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye
01:17 shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
01:21 Again, reading from the gospel of Luke, now chapter 14.
01:25 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the
01:29 chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath day,
01:32 that they watched him.
01:33 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had
01:37 the dropsy.
01:38 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees,
01:41 saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?
01:43 And they held their peace.
01:46 And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; and answered
01:50 them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox
01:53 fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out
01:57 on the Sabbath day?
01:58 And they could not answer him again to these things.
02:01 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden,
02:05 when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms;
02:08 saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding,
02:12 sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honorable man
02:17 than thou be bidden of him; and he that bade thee and him
02:22 to come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin
02:25 with shame to take the lowest room.
02:28 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room;
02:32 that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee,
02:36 Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the
02:39 presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
02:42 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that
02:46 humbleth himself shall be exalted.
02:49 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a
02:54 dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren,
02:58 neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also
03:01 bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.
03:04 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed,
03:09 the lame, the blind: and thou shalt be blessed; for they
03:13 cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed
03:16 at the resurrection of the just.
03:18 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these
03:22 things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat
03:25 bread in the kingdom of God.
03:27 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper,
03:31 and bade many: and sent his servant at supper time to say to
03:35 them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
03:38 And they all with one consent began to make excuse.
03:43 The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground,
03:46 and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
03:50 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to
03:55 prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
03:58 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore
04:01 I cannot come.
04:03 So that servant came, and showed his lord these things.
04:06 Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant,
04:10 Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring
04:14 in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt,
04:16 and the blind.
04:18 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast
04:21 commanded, and yet there is room.
04:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the
04:26 highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house
04:30 may be filled.
04:31 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden
04:34 shall taste of my supper.
04:36 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned,
04:40 and said unto them, If any man come to me, and hate not his
04:44 father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren,
04:47 and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot
04:51 be my disciple.
04:52 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me,
04:56 cannot be my disciple.
04:57 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down
05:02 first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient
05:06 to finish it?
05:07 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able
05:10 to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, saying,
05:15 This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
05:18 Or what king, going to make war against another king,
05:23 sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be
05:27 able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with
05:30 twenty thousand?
05:31 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an
05:35 ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
05:38 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all
05:43 that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
05:46 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savor,
05:50 wherewith shall it be seasoned?
05:52 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill;
05:55 but men cast it out.
05:57 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
06:00 We're reading in the gospel of Luke, chapter 15.
06:04 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners
06:09 for to hear him.
06:10 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man
06:14 receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
06:15 And he spake this parable unto them, saying, What man of you,
06:21 having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave
06:25 the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that
06:28 which is lost, until he find it?
06:30 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders,
06:34 rejoicing.
06:35 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and
06:37 neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have
06:40 found my sheep which was lost.
06:42 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one
06:47 sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just
06:51 persons, which need no repentance.
06:53 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose
06:58 one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house,
07:02 and seek diligently till she find it.
07:04 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her
07:07 neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have
07:10 found the piece which I had lost.
07:11 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the
07:15 angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
07:19 And he said, A certain man had two sons: and the younger of
07:24 them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods
07:27 that falleth to me.
07:28 And he divided unto them his living.
07:31 And not many days after the younger son gathered all
07:34 together, and took his journey into a far country, and there
07:38 wasted his substance with riotous living.
07:41 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine
07:45 in that land; and he began to be in want.
07:48 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country;
07:52 and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
07:55 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks
07:59 that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
08:02 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired
08:06 servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare,
08:09 and I perish with hunger!
08:11 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him,
08:15 Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
08:19 and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as
08:23 one of thy hired servants.
08:24 And he arose, and came to his father.
08:27 But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him,
08:31 and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck,
08:35 and kissed him.
08:37 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against
08:41 heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be
08:44 called thy son.
08:45 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best
08:49 robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on
08:53 his feet: and bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it;
08:56 and let us eat, and be merry: for this my son was dead,
08:59 and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.
09:02 And they began to be merry.
09:04 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew
09:08 nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing.
09:11 And he called one of the servants, and asked what
09:13 these things meant.
09:14 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come;
09:16 and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath
09:19 received him safe and sound.
09:20 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his
09:25 father out, and entreated him.
09:27 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do
09:31 I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy
09:34 commandment; and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might
09:38 make merry with my friends; but as soon as this thy son was
09:42 come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast
09:45 killed for him the fatted calf.
09:47 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I
09:53 have is thine.
09:54 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this
09:58 thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost,
10:01 and is found.
10:03 I'm reading from the gospel of Luke, chapter 16.
10:06 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain
10:10 rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto
10:14 him that he had wasted his goods.
10:16 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this
10:19 of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be
10:23 no longer steward.
10:24 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my
10:29 lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig;
10:32 to beg I am ashamed.
10:35 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the
10:38 stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
10:40 So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him,
10:45 and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?
10:48 And he said, An hundred measures of oil.
10:51 And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly,
10:55 and write fifty.
10:56 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou?
10:59 And he said, An hundred measures of wheat.
11:02 And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.
11:06 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had
11:10 done wisely: for the children of this world are in their
11:14 generation wiser than the children of light.
11:16 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon
11:22 of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you
11:25 into everlasting habitations.
11:27 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also
11:33 in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust
11:37 also in much.
11:39 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous
11:43 mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
11:48 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's,
11:52 who shall give you that which is your own?
11:54 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will
11:58 hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to
12:02 the one and despise the other.
12:03 Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
12:06 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these
12:10 things: and they derided him.
12:12 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves
12:17 before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is
12:21 highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
12:25 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the
12:30 kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
12:33 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle
12:37 of the law to fail.
12:39 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another,
12:43 committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is
12:46 put away from her husband committeth adultery.
12:49 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and
12:54 fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
12:57 and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at
13:01 his gate, full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the
13:04 crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs
13:08 came and licked his sores.
13:09 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by
13:13 the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was
13:17 buried; and in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments,
13:21 and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
13:25 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me,
13:28 and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in
13:31 water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
13:35 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime
13:40 receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things:
13:44 but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
13:48 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf
13:51 fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot;
13:56 neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
14:00 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou
14:03 wouldest send him to my father's house: for I have five
14:06 brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come
14:10 into this place of torment.
14:11 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets;
14:15 let them hear them.
14:17 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto
14:20 them from the dead, they will repent.
14:21 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets,
14:25 neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
