00:16 Hi, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we'll be reading from the book, 00:23 Acts of the Apostles, from the King James version. 00:25 But before we read, let's go to God and ask Him to be with us, 00:28 to bless us, and to guide our hearts. 00:31 Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the Bible that we have; 00:35 that we have the freedom to read it still, and that we can take 00:38 these words into our lives. 00:40 We ask You to make them bear fruit to Your honor and to Your 00:45 glory, for we love You so much. 00:47 Thank You again for these precious, precious words. 00:50 Amen. 00:51 I'll be reading today from the Acts of the Apostles in the 00:55 King James Version. 00:56 And when we were last together the disciples had been gathered 00:59 in the upper room and were praying. 01:01 And as they prayed the Holy Spirit descended on them and 01:04 each of them began to speak in a different language. 01:07 At that time in Jerusalem there were visitors from every nation 01:11 in the world, and they all heard the gospel being preached 01:14 in their own tongue. 01:15 I'm picking up in verse 7, and it says: 01:18 And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, 01:21 Behold, are not all these which speak Galileans? 01:25 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, 01:29 wherein we were born? 01:31 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in 01:35 Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 01:41 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya 01:45 about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 01:49 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues 01:53 the wonderful works of God. 01:55 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one 02:00 to another, What meaneth this? 02:02 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. 02:07 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, 02:12 and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at 02:16 Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and harken to my words: 02:20 for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the 02:24 third hour of the day. 02:26 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 02:30 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, 02:33 I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons 02:38 and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men 02:41 shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 02:45 and on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out 02:49 in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 02:52 and I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the 02:55 earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke: 02:59 the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into 03:03 blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 03:06 and it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name 03:10 of the Lord shall be saved. 03:13 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man 03:18 approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, 03:23 which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves 03:26 also know: him being delivered by the determinate counsel and 03:30 foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have 03:35 crucified and slain: whom God hath raised up, having loosed 03:41 the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should 03:44 behold of it. 03:46 For David speaketh concerning him, I forsaw the Lord always 03:50 before my face; for he is on my right hand, that I should not be 03:54 moved: therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; 03:59 moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: because thou wilt 04:03 not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine 04:07 Holy One to see corruption. 04:09 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me 04:14 full of joy with thy countenance. 04:16 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch 04:21 David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is 04:25 with us unto this day. 04:26 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn 04:31 with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to 04:35 the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 04:39 he, seeing this before, spake of the resurrection of Christ, 04:44 that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did 04:47 see corruption. 04:48 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 04:55 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having 05:00 received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, 05:03 he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 05:07 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith 05:12 himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 05:17 until I make thy foes thy footstool. 05:19 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God 05:24 hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, 05:28 both Lord and Christ. 05:31 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, 05:35 and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, 05:38 Men and brethren, what shall we do? 05:39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized 05:44 every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission 05:47 of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 05:52 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all 05:55 that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 06:01 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, 06:05 Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 06:09 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: 06:13 and the same day there were added unto them about 06:16 three thousand souls. 06:18 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and 06:21 fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 06:25 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were 06:30 done by the apostles. 06:31 And all that believed were together, and had all things 06:35 common; and sold their possessions and goods, 06:38 and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 06:42 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, 06:46 and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with 06:50 gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having 06:55 favor with all the people. 06:57 And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. 07:01 (We're reading from the King James Version in the 07:03 Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 3.) 07:05 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the 07:10 hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. 07:13 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, 07:17 whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called 07:21 Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 07:25 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, 07:29 asked an alms. 07:31 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, 07:36 Look on us. 07:38 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive 07:42 something of them. 07:43 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have 07:50 give I thee: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth 07:54 rise up and walk. 07:57 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: 08:00 and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 08:04 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them 08:09 into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 08:12 And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 08:14 and they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the 08:17 Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder 08:20 and amazement at that which had happened unto him. 08:23 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, 08:28 all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called 08:30 Solomon's, greatly wondering. 08:33 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, 08:35 Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so 08:41 earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had 08:45 made this man to walk? 08:46 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of 08:50 our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, 08:55 and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was 08:57 determined to let him go. 08:59 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer 09:03 to be granted unto you; and killed the Prince of life, 09:07 whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. 09:11 And his name, through faith in his name, hath made this man 09:16 strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him 09:22 hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence 09:25 of you all. 09:26 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, 09:30 as did also your rulers. 09:32 But those things, which God before had showed by the mouth 09:36 of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, 09:39 he hath so fulfilled. 09:41 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be 09:47 blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the 09:51 presence of the Lord; and he shall send Jesus Christ, 09:54 which before was preached unto you: whom the heaven must 09:57 receive until the times of restitution of all things, 10:01 which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets 10:05 since the world began. 10:06 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A Prophet shall the 10:11 Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; 10:15 him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall 10:20 say unto you. 10:21 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear 10:24 that Prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. 10:28 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow 10:32 after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold 10:36 of these days. 10:37 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant 10:41 which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy 10:44 seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 10:48 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, 10:53 sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you 10:58 from his iniquities. 11:00 (Continuing with Chapter 4 of the book, the Acts 11:05 of the Apostles.) 11:06 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the 11:10 captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, 11:13 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through 11:16 Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 11:19 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next 11:23 day: for it was now eventide. 11:25 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; 11:29 and the number of the men was about five thousand. 11:32 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, 11:36 and elders, and scribes, and Annas the high priest, 11:40 and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were 11:43 of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together 11:47 at Jerusalem. 11:48 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what 11:51 power, or by what name, have ye done this? 11:54 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers 12:00 of the people, and elders of Israel, if we this day be 12:05 examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what 12:08 means he is made whole; be it known unto you all, and to all 12:13 the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of 12:17 Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, 12:21 even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 12:27 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, 12:32 which is become the head of the corner. 12:35 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none 12:39 other name under heaven given among men, whereby we 12:43 must be saved. 12:45 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived 12:49 that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; 12:53 and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. 12:58 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, 13:02 they could say nothing against it. 13:04 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the 13:07 council, they conferred among themselves, saying, What shall 13:11 we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath 13:15 been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in 13:18 Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. 13:21 But that it spread no further among the people, let us 13:24 straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man 13:27 in this name. 13:29 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak 13:33 at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 13:35 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be 13:39 right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto 13:43 God, judge ye. 13:44 For we cannot but speak the things which we have 13:47 seen and heard. 13:49 So when they had further threatened them, they let them 13:51 go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of 13:54 the people: for all men glorified God for that 13:58 which was done. 13:59 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle 14:02 of healing was showed. 14:03 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported 14:07 all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. 14:10 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God 14:13 with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made 14:17 heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: who by 14:22 the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen 14:25 rage, and the people imagine vain things? 14:28 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered 14:31 together against the Lord, and against his Christ. |
