00:17 Hello, I'm Kelly, and welcome to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE.
00:20 We'll be reading today from the King James Version in the
00:23 book of Acts, but before we read, let's pray.
00:26 Dear Jesus, Thank You so much for Your love to us,
00:32 for coming down to save us, and make a way for us to
00:36 live with You forever,
00:37 and thank You that You didn't just make a way for us for us
00:41 for eternity, but right now in this life You've sent us these
00:45 words to be a map for us, and a guiding force in our lives,
00:49 and may they bear fruit.
00:52 May the power of them be used by us to glorify You.
00:56 We love You so much!
00:57 Thank You for hearing us.
00:58 Amen.
01:00 I'm reading today from the book of Acts.
01:03 We'll start in chapter 9, and this is the King James Version.
01:06 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter
01:12 against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
01:16 and desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues,
01:20 that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or
01:23 women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
01:26 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly
01:31 there shined round about him a light from heaven: and he fell
01:36 to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul,
01:40 why persecutest thou me?
01:42 And he said, Who art thou, Lord?
01:45 And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:
01:49 it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
01:53 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou
01:59 have me to do?
02:00 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city,
02:04 and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
02:08 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless,
02:12 hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
02:14 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened,
02:19 he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him
02:24 into Damascus.
02:25 And he was three days without sight, and neither did
02:29 eat nor drink.
02:31 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias;
02:35 and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias.
02:39 And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
02:42 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street
02:46 which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas
02:50 for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
02:55 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in,
02:58 and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
03:02 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man,
03:08 how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
03:12 and here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all
03:16 that call on thy name.
03:17 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen
03:23 vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings,
03:28 and the children of Israel: for I will show him how great things
03:33 he must suffer for my name's sake.
03:36 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house;
03:40 and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord,
03:45 even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest,
03:49 hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled
03:54 with the Holy Ghost.
03:55 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales:
04:01 and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
04:07 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened.
04:11 Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were
04:14 at Damascus.
04:15 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues,
04:19 that he is the Son of God.
04:21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he
04:27 that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem,
04:31 and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound
04:35 unto the chief priests?
04:37 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the
04:42 Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that
04:45 this is very Christ.
04:47 And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel
04:51 to kill him: but their laying await was known of Saul.
04:56 And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.
04:59 Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by
05:03 the wall in a basket.
05:05 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join
05:09 himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him,
05:12 and believed not that he was a disciple.
05:15 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles,
05:19 and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way,
05:22 and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly
05:26 at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
05:28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.
05:33 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed
05:37 against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.
05:41 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to
05:44 Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
05:46 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judea and Galilee
05:51 and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the
05:56 Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
05:59 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters,
06:03 he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.
06:07 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his
06:12 bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.
06:14 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole:
06:20 arise, and make thy bed.
06:22 And he arose immediately.
06:24 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned
06:29 to the Lord.
06:30 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by
06:35 interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good
06:39 works and almsdeeds which she did.
06:41 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick,
06:45 and died: whom when they had washed, thy laid her in an
06:50 upper chamber.
06:51 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had
06:55 heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men,
06:59 desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.
07:02 Then Peter arose and went with them.
07:05 When he was come, thy brought him into the upper chamber:
07:09 and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats
07:13 and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
07:16 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed;
07:21 and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise.
07:26 And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
07:31 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up; and when he had
07:35 called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
07:38 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed
07:43 in the Lord.
07:44 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa
07:47 with one Simon a tanner.
07:50 We're reading in the book of Acts, in the King James Version,
07:53 and beginning now with chapter 10.
07:56 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius,
08:02 a centurion of the band called the Italian band, a devout man,
08:07 and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms
08:11 to the people, and prayed to God always.
08:14 He saw in a vision evidently, about the ninth hour of the day,
08:18 an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him,
08:22 Cornelius.
08:23 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said,
08:27 What is it, Lord?
08:28 And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come
08:33 up for a memorial before God.
08:35 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon,
08:41 whose surname is Peter: he lodgeth with one Simon a tanner,
08:46 whose house is by the seaside: he shall tell thee what thou
08:49 oughtest to do.
08:51 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed,
08:54 he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier
08:58 of them that waited on him continually; and when he had
09:01 declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
09:04 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh
09:08 unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray
09:12 about the sixth hour: and he became very hungry, and would
09:17 have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
09:21 and saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending
09:25 unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners,
09:30 and let down to the earth: wherein were all manner of
09:34 four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping
09:37 things, and fowls of the air.
09:39 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
09:45 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing
09:50 that is common or unclean.
09:52 And the voice spake unto him again the second time,
09:55 What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
10:01 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again
10:06 into heaven.
10:07 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which
10:12 he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from
10:16 Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before
10:19 the gate, and called, and asked whether Simon, which was
10:23 surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
10:26 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto
10:29 him, Behold, three men seek thee.
10:33 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them,
10:37 doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
10:40 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from
10:44 Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek:
10:49 what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
10:52 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man,
10:57 and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation
11:00 of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for
11:05 thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
11:08 Then called he them in, and lodged them.
11:11 And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain
11:15 brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
11:17 And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea.
11:21 And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his
11:25 kinsmen and near friends.
11:27 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell
11:30 down at his feet, and worshiped him.
11:32 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also
11:36 am a man.
11:37 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many
11:41 that were come together.
11:42 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing
11:48 for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one
11:52 of another nation; but God hath showed me that I should not
11:56 call any man common or unclean.
11:59 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon
12:04 as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent
12:12 ye have sent for me?
12:13 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this
12:18 hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold,
12:22 a man stood before me in bright clothing, and said, Cornelius,
12:25 thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance
12:29 in the sight of God.
12:30 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname
12:34 is Peter;
12:35 he is lodged in the house
12:36 of one Simon a tanner
12:37 by the seaside: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
12:43 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done
12:47 that thou art come.
12:48 Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all
12:53 things that are commanded thee of God.
12:56 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive
13:01 that God is no respecter of persons: but in every nation he
13:07 that feareth him, and worketh righteousness,
13:10 is accepted with him.
13:11 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel,
13:14 preaching peace by Jesus Christ: that word,
13:21 I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea,
13:24 and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
13:28 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost
13:31 and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that
13:35 were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
13:38 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the
13:41 land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew
13:45 and hanged on a tree: him God raised up the third day,
13:50 and showed him openly; not to all the people,
13:53 but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat
13:59 and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
14:02 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify
14:06 that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick
14:10 and dead.
14:11 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name
14:15 whosoever believeth him shall receive remission of sins.
14:19 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on
14:24 all them which heard the word.
14:26 Thank you again, for being with us today for HIS WORDS ARE LIFE,
14:31 until next time, may God keep you.
14:33 Goodbye.
