00:15 Hi, and welcome again to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer 00:20 We'll be reading today from the King James Version in the 00:23 book of Acts, 00:24 But before we start let's pray together. 00:26 Dear Jesus, thank You so much for coming down here to become 00:32 for us the way to live with You forever, 00:35 and that day, we want that to come soon, 00:38 but until that time, thank you also, for this bible that we can 00:43 read to know more about You, 00:45 and today as we read about Your disciples and how they went out 00:50 and spread the word, please show us if there's anything more that 00:53 You would have us to do to take your good news around, and 00:56 we love You so much, thank you, Amen. 01:00 We're reading today from the book of Acts in the King James 01:04 Version, and we're in chapter 10. 01:06 When we were last together, we were reading about Cornelius 01:08 who had gathered together a bunch of his friends and 01:11 family, and then gone and brought Peter to preach the word 01:14 of God to them (Gentiles). 01:15 Peter came and the Holy Ghost was poured out on them, 01:18 and everyone rejoiced. 01:21 We're picking up in verse 45. 01:24 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, 01:28 as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles 01:33 also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 01:36 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. 01:39 Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should 01:44 not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost 01:47 as well as we? 01:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name 01:51 of the Lord. 01:52 Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. 01:56 Reading on in chapter 11. 01:58 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judea heard that 02:02 the Gentiles had also received the word of God. 02:04 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the 02:08 circumcision contended with him, saying, Thou wentest in to men 02:14 uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. 02:17 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, 02:21 and expounded it by order unto them, saying, I was in the city 02:26 of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain 02:31 vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from 02:35 heaven by four corners; and it came even to me: upon the which 02:40 when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw 02:44 four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping 02:49 things, and fowls of the air. 02:51 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat. 02:56 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath 03:02 at any time entered into my mouth. 03:04 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath 03:09 cleansed, that call not thou common. 03:14 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again 03:18 into heaven. 03:19 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto 03:22 the house were I was, sent from Caesarea unto me. 03:26 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. 03:30 Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered 03:34 into the man's house: and he showed us how he had seen an 03:37 angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to 03:41 Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; who shall tell 03:45 thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. 03:50 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, 03:55 as on us at the beginning. 03:57 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, 04:01 John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with 04:06 the Holy Ghost. 04:07 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, 04:13 who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, what was I, that I could 04:18 withstand God? 04:19 When they heard these things, they held their peace, 04:23 and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles 04:29 granted repentance unto life. 04:32 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that 04:36 arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, 04:40 and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only. 04:44 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, 04:49 when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, 04:52 preaching the Lord Jesus. 04:54 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number 04:58 believed, and turned unto the Lord. 05:01 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church 05:05 which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, 05:09 that he should go as far as Antioch. 05:11 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, 05:17 and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would 05:20 cleave unto the Lord. 05:22 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: 05:26 and much people was added unto the Lord. 05:29 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 05:34 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. 05:38 And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled 05:42 themselves with the church, and taught much people. 05:45 And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. 05:49 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. 05:54 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by 05:58 the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the 06:02 world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar. 06:07 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, 06:10 determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in 06:14 Judea: which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the 06:18 hands of Barnabas and Saul. 06:21 We're reading from the King James Version in the book 06:24 of Acts, and now we're starting chapter 12. 06:27 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands 06:33 to vex certain of the church. 06:36 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. 06:40 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further 06:44 to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleaven bread) 06:48 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, 06:52 and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep 06:57 him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. 07:01 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made 07:06 without ceasing of the church unto God for him. 07:10 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same 07:15 night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two 07:19 chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. 07:24 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light 07:28 shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, 07:31 and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. 07:33 And his chains fell off from his hands. 07:36 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on 07:40 thy sandals. And so he did. 07:43 And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, 07:46 and follow me. 07:47 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was 07:52 true which was done by the angel; but thought he 07:54 saw a vision. 07:55 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came 08:00 unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to 08:03 them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on 08:07 through one street; and forthwith the angel 08:10 departed from him. 08:11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of 08:16 a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath 08:20 delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the 08:23 expectation of the people of the Jews. 08:25 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of 08:29 Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many 08:34 were gathered together praying. 08:36 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to 08:40 harken, named Rhoda. 08:42 And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate 08:45 for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood 08:48 before the gate. 08:49 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. 08:53 But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. 08:56 Then said they, It is his angel. 08:59 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the 09:02 door, and saw him, they were astonished. 09:06 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, 09:11 declared unto them how the Lord had brought him 09:13 out of the prison. 09:15 And he said, Go show these things unto James, 09:18 and to the brethren. 09:19 And he departed, and went into another place. 09:22 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the 09:26 soldiers, what was become of Peter. 09:28 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, 09:32 he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be 09:35 put to death. 09:37 And he went down from Judea to Caesarea, and there abode. 09:41 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: 09:46 but they came with one accord to him, and having made Blastus 09:51 the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; 09:55 because their country was nourished by the king's country. 09:58 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, 10:03 sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. 10:07 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice 10:10 of a god, and not of a man. 10:13 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave 10:18 not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, 10:22 and gave up the ghost. 10:24 But the word of God grew and multiplied. 10:27 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had 10:30 fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, 10:33 whose surname was Mark. 10:35 We're reading from the book of Acts, and we are now beginning 10:38 chapter 13. 10:39 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain 10:44 prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was 10:48 called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had 10:52 been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 10:55 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, 10:59 Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto 11:03 I have called them. 11:04 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on 11:08 them, they sent them away. 11:10 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto 11:14 Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. 11:18 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God 11:22 in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John 11:25 to their minister. 11:26 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found 11:30 a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name 11:35 was Bar-jesus: which was with the deputy of the country, 11:39 Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and 11:43 Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. 11:46 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) 11:51 withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. 11:57 Then Saul, (who is also called Paul) filled with the 12:01 Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, and said, O full of all subtlety 12:07 and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all 12:11 righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right 12:15 ways of the Lord? 12:16 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, 12:20 and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. 12:24 And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; 12:30 and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. 12:34 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, 12:37 being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord. 12:40 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to 12:44 Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned 12:48 to Jerusalem. 12:49 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch 12:53 in Psidia, and went into the synagogue on the 12:55 sabbath day, and sat down. 12:57 And after the reading of the law and the prophets, 13:00 the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and 13:04 brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, 13:07 say on. 13:08 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, 13:13 Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience. 13:17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted 13:22 the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, 13:25 and with a high arm brought he them out of it. 13:29 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners 13:33 in the wilderness. 13:34 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, 13:38 he divided their land to them by lot. 13:41 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of 13:45 four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. 13:49 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them 13:53 Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, 13:57 by the space of forty years. 13:59 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David 14:03 to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, 14:07 I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own 14:12 heart, which shall fulfill all my will. 14:16 Of this man's seed hath God, according to his promise, 14:20 raised unto Israel a Savior, Jesus: 14:24 Oh that we all be called by God; men and women after His 14:30 own heart. 14:31 thank you for joining us today, and until next time. 14:34 Goodbye. |
