00:17 Hello and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we're reading from the book of Hebrews 00:22 but before we begin to read together, let's pray. 00:25 Dear Jesus, thank you for loving us. Thank you for dieing 00:30 for us that you could save us to live with you eternally. 00:33 But thank you right now, today, that in addition to eternal life 00:37 that you will enjoy with us, you have given us these words 00:40 that will make this present live a life of peace and joy 00:44 through your grace and mercy. May we always abide in you 00:48 and in your word. Be with us now as we read. We love you so much. 00:52 Thank you for loving us. Amen. Again, I'm reading from the book 00:57 of Hebrews, in chapter three. And when we were last together, 01:01 the writer was talking about, in the voice of God, saying, that 01:06 how than in past generations those who turned from Him 01:10 grieved him; because they did not know his ways, and they did 01:14 not care to follow his teachings. 01:16 Picking up in chapter three, verse eleven, 01:19 So I sware in my wrath they shall not enter into my rest. 01:23 Take heed brethren, lest there be any in of you an evil heart 01:28 of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one 01:33 another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be 01:36 hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 01:39 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning 01:44 of our confidence steadfast unto the end; While it is said, 01:49 Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, 01:53 as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, 01:57 did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 02:01 but with some was he grieved forty years? was it not with 02:06 them that had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the 02:10 wilderness? And to whom sware he that they should not enter into 02:15 his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that 02:21 they could not enter in because of unbelief. Continuing in 02:27 Hebrews chapter 4. Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise 02:32 being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem 02:35 to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well 02:40 as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, 02:45 not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which 02:49 have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have 02:54 sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the 02:58 works were finished from the foundation of the world. 03:00 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, 03:04 and God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 03:09 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 03:14 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, 03:19 and they to whom it was first preached entered not in 03:22 because of unbelief: Again he limiteth a certain day, saying, 03:27 in David, Today, after so long a time; as it is said, Today, 03:33 if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 03:37 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not 03:41 afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth 03:45 therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered 03:50 unto his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, 03:54 as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into 03:59 that rest, lest any man fall after the same example 04:03 of unbelief. For the word of God is quick and powerful, and 04:07 sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the 04:11 dividing asunder of the soul and spirit, and of the joints 04:15 and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents 04:19 of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not 04:23 manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened 04:27 unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 04:30 Seeing then that we have a great high priest that is passed 04:35 unto the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our 04:40 profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be 04:44 touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all 04:48 points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 04:52 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, 04:57 that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of 05:03 need. - Continuing to read in Hebrews, chapter 5. 05:07 And this is the King James Version. 05:09 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained 05:14 for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both 05:19 gifts and sacrifices for sins; Who can have compassion on 05:24 the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he 05:27 himself also is compassed with infirmity. And by reason hereof 05:32 as he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer 05:37 for sins. And no man taketh his unto himself, but he that is 05:43 called of God, as was Aaron. So also Christ glorified not 05:48 himself to be made an high priest but he that said unto 05:51 him, Thou art my Son, today have I begotten thee. 05:54 As he saith also in another place. Thou are a high priest 05:58 forever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days 06:02 of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers 06:04 and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him 06:08 that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that 06:12 he feared; though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience 06:16 by the things which he suffered; and being made perfect, 06:20 he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them 06:25 that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of 06:30 Melchisedec. Of whom we have many things to say, and hard 06:34 to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 06:37 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need 06:41 that one teach you again which be the first principles of the 06:45 oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, 06:49 and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk 06:54 is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 06:58 But strong meat belongeth to them that are full age, even 07:04 those who by reason of use have their senses exercised 07:08 to discern both good and evil. Reading from the book of Hebrews 07:14 in the King James Version, continuing now with chapter 6. 07:18 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, 07:23 let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation 07:28 of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 07:31 of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of 07:35 resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 07:38 And this will we do, if God permit. For it is impossible 07:42 for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of 07:45 the heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 07:48 and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the 07:52 world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again 07:56 unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son 08:00 of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth 08:05 which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth 08:09 forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, 08:13 receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and 08:19 briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be 08:24 burned. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, 08:30 and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. 08:34 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor 08:38 of love, which ye have shewed to toward his name, in that ye 08:41 have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire 08:45 that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full 08:49 assurance of hope unto the end, that ye be not slothful, 08:53 but followers of them who through faith and patience 08:56 inherit the promises. For when God made promise to Abraham, 09:01 because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 09:04 Saying, Surely, blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying 09:09 I will multiply thee. And so after he had patiently endured, 09:14 he obtained the promise. For men verily swear by the greater: 09:19 and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. 09:23 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto 09:27 the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, 09:30 confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, 09:35 in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a 09:40 strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold 09:45 upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor 09:50 of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth 09:54 into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is 09:59 for us entered, even Jesus, made and high priest forever 10:02 after the order of Melchisedec. 10:04 Again, I'm reading from the King James Version, 10:07 This is the book of Hebrews, chapter 7. 10:09 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high 10:15 God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, 10:19 and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all 10:24 first being by interpretation King of righteousness, 10:28 and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 10:34 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither 10:41 beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son 10:46 of God; abideth a priest continually. Now consider 10:51 how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham 10:55 gave the tenth of the spoils. And verily they that are of 11:00 the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, 11:03 have a commandment to take tithes of the people according 11:07 to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out 11:10 of the loins of Abraham: But he whose descent is not counted 11:15 from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him 11:19 that had the promises. And without all contradiction 11:23 the less is blessed of the better. And here men that die 11:27 receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is 11:31 witnessed that he liveth. And as I may so say, Levi also, 11:36 who receiveth tithes, paid tithes in Abraham. 11:39 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec 11:43 met him. If therefore perfection were by the 11:47 Levitical priesthood, for under it the people received the law, 11:51 what further need was there that another priest should rise 11:55 after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the 11:58 order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed, 12:01 there is made of necessity a change also of the law. 12:05 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another 12:10 tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. 12:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which 12:19 tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. 12:22 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude 12:27 of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, Who is made, 12:31 not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power 12:35 of an endless life. For he testifieth, Thou art a priest 12:40 forever after the order of Melcnisedec. 12:42 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment 12:46 going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. 12:49 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of 12:55 a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. And 13:01 inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: For those 13:05 priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by 13:09 him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, 13:12 Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. 13:16 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. 13:21 And they truly were many priests because they were not suffered 13:25 to continue by reason of death: But this man, 13:28 because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 13:32 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost 13:37 that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make 13:41 intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, 13:46 who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners 13:50 and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, 13:54 as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own 13:58 sins, and then for the people's; for this he did once, when he 14:02 offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which 14:06 have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since 14:11 the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated forevermore. 14:15 Continuing in chapter eight, of Hebrews. 14:18 Now the things which we have spoken this is the sum: 14:23 We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand 14:27 of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the 14:31 sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, |
