00:17 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer.
00:20 Thank you for joining with me today to read the word of God.
00:24 But before we do that, let's pray together.
00:26 Dear Heavenly Father, thank You again for waking us up this
00:31 morning; for Your mercies that are new every day.
00:34 Thank You that as we go through today, we're not going to walk
00:38 through it alone.
00:39 We're not going to walk through it stumbling and afraid,
00:43 but we have You to come to, and we have Your word
00:45 to guide us.
00:46 Please be with us now as we read, and open our minds to
00:49 receive the truth that You have for each of us.
00:52 We love You so much and, thank You for loving us.
00:54 Amen.
00:55 Again, I'm reading today from the book of 1 Peter, chapter 2,
01:00 beginning with verse 21, and this is the King James Version.
01:05 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also
01:10 suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow
01:14 his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his
01:18 mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again;
01:24 when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to
01:30 him that judgeth righteously: who his own self bare our sins
01:35 in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins,
01:40 should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
01:46 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned
01:51 unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
01:55 Continuing in 1 Peter, chapter 3.
01:58 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own
02:03 husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without
02:08 the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
02:13 while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
02:17 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of
02:21 plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting
02:25 on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart,
02:29 in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament
02:32 of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God
02:37 of great price.
02:38 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also,
02:43 who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection
02:48 unto their own husbands: even as Sarah obeyed Abraham,
02:52 calling him lord: whose daughters ye are,
02:55 as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
02:59 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to
03:03 knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel,
03:08 and as being heirs together of the grace of life;
03:12 that your prayers be not hindered.
03:14 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of
03:19 another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
03:24 not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing:
03:29 but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto
03:34 called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
03:37 For he that will love life, and see good days,
03:41 let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they
03:46 speak no guile: let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek
03:51 peace, and ensue it.
03:53 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears
03:57 are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is
04:01 against them that do evil.
04:03 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that
04:08 which is good?
04:09 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake,
04:14 happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be
04:18 troubled; but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts:
04:22 and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh
04:26 you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear:
04:31 having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you,
04:37 as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your
04:42 good conversation in Christ.
04:44 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for
04:49 well-doing, than for evildoing.
04:51 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins,
04:55 the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God,
05:00 being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
05:04 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in
05:07 prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the
05:11 long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark
05:16 was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls
05:20 were saved by water.
05:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us
05:27 (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,
05:30 but the answer of a good conscience toward God,)
05:33 by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: who is gone into
05:36 heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities
05:40 and powers being made subject unto him.
05:44 Continuing reading 1 Peter, chapter 4.
05:47 This is the King James Version.
05:48 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh,
05:54 arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath
05:59 suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
06:02 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the
06:06 flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
06:09 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought
06:14 the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness,
06:17 lusts, excess of wine, raveling's, banquetings,
06:22 and abominable idolatries: wherein they think it strange
06:26 that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot,
06:30 speaking evil of you: who shall give account to him that is
06:34 ready to judge the quick and the dead.
06:37 For this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are
06:41 dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh,
06:45 but live according to God in the spirit.
06:48 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober,
06:53 and watch unto prayer.
06:55 And above all things have fervent charity among
06:58 yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
07:03 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
07:06 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same
07:11 one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
07:16 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God;
07:21 if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God
07:25 giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through
07:30 Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever.
07:34 Amen.
07:36 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial
07:41 which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened
07:45 unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's
07:50 sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be
07:55 glad also with exceeding joy.
07:58 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye;
08:02 for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their
08:08 part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
08:13 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief,
08:17 or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
08:22 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be
08:26 ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
08:30 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house
08:34 of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be
08:39 of them that obey not the gospel of God?
08:42 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly
08:46 and the sinner appear?
08:47 Wherefore, let them that suffer according to the will of God
08:52 commit the keeping of their souls to him in well-doing,
08:56 as unto a faithful Creator.
08:59 Continuing in chapter 5 of the first book of Peter.
09:03 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder,
09:09 and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker
09:12 of the glory that shall be revealed: feed the flock of God
09:17 which is among you, taking the oversight thereof,
09:20 not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre,
09:26 but of a ready mind; neither as being lords over God's heritage,
09:31 but being examples to the flock.
09:35 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive
09:38 a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
09:41 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.
09:47 Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with
09:51 humility; for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace
09:56 to the humble.
09:57 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God,
10:01 that he may exalt you in due time: casting all your care
10:06 upon him; for he careth for you.
10:09 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil,
10:15 as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may
10:19 devour: whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the
10:25 same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren
10:27 that are in the world.
10:29 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal
10:33 glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while,
10:37 make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
10:43 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
10:47 Amen.
10:48 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose,
10:52 I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that
10:56 this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
10:59 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you,
11:04 saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.
11:07 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity.
11:10 Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus.
11:14 Amen.
11:16 Continuing with the second epistle of Peter, and this is
11:19 the King James Version.
11:21 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ,
11:26 to them that have obtained like precious faith with us
11:30 through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:
11:34 grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge
11:38 of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according as his divine power
11:43 hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and
11:46 godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to
11:49 glory and virtue: whereby are given unto us exceeding great
11:55 and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers
12:00 of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is
12:04 in the world through lust.
12:06 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith
12:11 virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge,
12:16 temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience,
12:21 godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness;
12:26 and to brotherly kindness, charity.
12:29 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that
12:35 ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge
12:38 of our Lord Jesus Christ.
12:40 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar
12:45 off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
12:49 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your
12:52 calling and election sure: for if ye do these things,
12:56 ye shall never fall: for so an entrance shall be ministered
13:01 unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our
13:05 Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
13:07 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in
13:11 remembrance of these things, though ye know them,
13:14 and be established in the present truth.
13:17 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle,
13:21 to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; knowing that
13:26 shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord
13:31 Jesus Christ hath showed me.
13:33 Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease
13:38 to have these things always in remembrance.
13:40 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables,
13:44 when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord
13:47 Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
13:52 For he received from God the Father honor and glory,
13:56 when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory,
13:59 This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.
14:04 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were
14:08 with him in the holy mount.
14:10 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well
14:15 that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark
14:18 place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your
14:23 hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of the
14:27 scripture is of any private interpretation.
14:30 Thank you for being with me.
14:32 Goodbye.
