00:16 Hi, and welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we're going to continue reading in 00:22 the story of Exodus, about God setting people free from Pharaoh 00:26 and the Egyptians. But before we read, let's pray together. 00:29 Dear God, Thank you so much for these words that we can come to 00:34 You; those of us who are feeling weak. These words make us strong 00:38 Those of us who may be discouraged, these words 00:42 give us courage and hope in You. Those of us who have questions 00:46 things we're facing, this word will give us wisdom. 00:48 Please be with us now as we read. May we be strengthened 00:52 to serve thee better. We love you so much and thank you 00:54 for loving us. Amen. When we were together last, 00:58 after reading about the plagues that God is beginning to send 01:02 on Egypt. We're in the middle of the plague of the frogs. 01:05 And Pharaoh has come to Moses and said, Get rid of the frogs 01:08 and I'll let your people go to worship. And Moses said, 01:12 When do you want them to be gone? And Pharaoh sets the time, 01:14 and Moses said, I will do as you say so that you will know 01:17 that there is a God in heaven. And we begin to pick up here on 01:21 Exodus, chapter 8, and starting with verse 11. 01:24 And this is the King James Version. 01:25 And the frogs shall depart from thee and from thy houses and 01:30 from thy servants, and from thy people. And they shall 01:33 remain in the river only. And Moses and Aaron went out 01:36 from Pharaoh and Moses cried unto the Lord because of the 01:39 frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh. And the Lord 01:43 did according to the word of Moses. And the frogs died 01:46 out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields. 01:49 And they gathered them together upon heaps and the land stank. 01:53 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his 01:57 heart and hearkened not unto them, as the Lord has said. 02:01 And the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, stretch out thy 02:05 rod and smite the dust of the land that it may become lice 02:09 throughout all the land of Egypt. And they did so; 02:12 For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and smote the 02:16 dust of the earth, and it became lice in man and in beast. 02:20 All the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of 02:24 Egypt. And the magicians did so with their enchantments 02:27 to bring forth lice, but they could not. So there were lice 02:31 upon man, and upon beast. Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, 02:36 This is the finger of God. Pharaoh's heart was hardened 02:40 and he hearkened not unto them, as the Lord had said. 02:42 And the Lord said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning 02:45 and stand before Pharaoh. Lo he cometh forth to water 02:49 and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Let my people go 02:54 that they may serve him, else if will not let my people go, 02:58 behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee and upon thy 03:03 servants, and upon thy people, into thy houses, and the houses 03:08 of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies and also 03:13 the ground whereon they are. And I will sever in that day 03:17 the land of Goshen in which my people dwell that no swarms of 03:21 flies shall be there, to the end that thou mayest know 03:25 that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth. And I will put a 03:29 division between my people, and thy people tomorrow 03:33 shall the sign be. And the Lord did so and there came a grievous 03:38 swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh and into the servants' 03:42 houses and all the land of Egypt. The land was corrupted 03:45 by reason of swarms of flies. And Pharaoh called for Moses and 03:50 for Aaron and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God 03:53 in the land. And Moses said, It is not meat so to do, 03:58 for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians 04:01 for the Lord our God. Lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination 04:05 of the Egyptians before their eyes and will they not stone us? 04:08 We will go 3 days journey into the wilderness and sacrifice 04:12 to the Lord our God as he shall command us. And Pharaoh said, 04:15 And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the 04:21 Lord your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far 04:24 away: entreat for me. And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee 04:29 and I will entreat the Lord that the swarms of flies may depart 04:32 from Pharaoh, from his servants and from his people, tomorrow: 04:35 but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not 04:39 letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord. 04:42 And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the Lord. 04:45 And the Lord did according to the word of Moses; 04:47 And he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, 04:51 from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one. 04:55 And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would 05:00 he let the people go. Continuing to read in Exodus, 05:05 This is chapter 9, The King James Version. 05:08 Then the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh and tell him, 05:13 Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, 05:17 that they may serve me. For if thou refuse to let them go, 05:21 and wilt hold them still, Behold the hand of the Lord is upon 05:26 thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, 05:29 upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen and upon the sheep 05:33 there shall be a very grievous murrain. And the Lord shall 05:38 sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: 05:41 and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of 05:46 Israel. And the Lord appointed a set time, saying, Tomorrow 05:50 the Lord shall do this thing in the land. And the Lord did that 05:55 thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: 05:58 But of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one. 06:02 And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle 06:06 of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, 06:09 and he did not let the people go. And the Lord said to Moses 06:14 and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace 06:18 and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight 06:21 of Pharaoh. And it shall become small dust in all the land of 06:26 Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains 06:30 upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of 06:33 Egypt. And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before 06:37 Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became 06:41 a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast. 06:46 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of 06:50 the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all 06:53 the Egyptians. And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, 06:57 and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had spoken unto 07:01 Moses. And the Lord said unto Moses, Rise up early in the 07:05 morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, 07:08 Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, 07:11 that they may serve me. For I will at this time send all my 07:16 plagues upon thine heart, and upon they servants, and upon thy 07:19 people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me 07:23 in all the earth. For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may 07:28 smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be 07:32 cut off from the earth. And in very deed for this cause 07:37 have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; 07:41 and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. 07:45 As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, 07:48 that thou wilt not let them go? Behold, tomorrow about this time 07:53 I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not 07:59 been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until 08:03 now. Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that 08:07 thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall 08:11 be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail 08:15 shall come down upon them, and they shall die. He that feared 08:20 the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh 08:22 made his servants and his cattle flee 08:25 into the houses: And he that regarded not 08:28 the word of the Lord left his servants and his cattle in the 08:31 field. And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand 08:35 toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, 08:39 upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, 08:43 throughout the land of Egypt. And Moses stretched forth 08:46 his rod toward heaven: and the Lord sent thunder and hail, 08:50 and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the Lord rained hail 08:54 upon the land of Egypt. So there was hail, and fire mingled with 08:59 the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all 09:04 the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 09:06 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that 09:09 was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every 09:13 herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field. 09:16 Only in the land of Goshen where the children of Israel were, 09:20 was there no hail. And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and 09:24 Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: 09:27 The Lord is righteous, and I and m people are wicked. Entreat the 09:32 Lord, for it is enough, that there be no more mighty 09:34 thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall 09:37 stay no longer. And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone 09:41 out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the Lord; 09:45 and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more 09:48 hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the Lord's. 09:52 But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will 09:55 not yet fear the Lord God. And the flax and the barley 09:59 was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was 10:02 bolled. But the wheat and the rye were not smitten: for they 10:05 were not grown up. And Moses went out of the city from 10:08 Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the Lord: 10:11 and the thunders and hail ceased and the rain was not poured upon 10:16 the earth. And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail 10:19 and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened 10:24 his heart, he and his servants. And the heart of Pharaoh 10:27 was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; 10:30 as the Lord had spoken by Moses. We're continuing to read 10:34 in the book of Exodus, chapter 10. 10:36 and this is the King James Version. 10:38 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have 10:43 hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, 10:45 that I might shew these my signs before him: And that thou mayest 10:51 tell in the ears of thy son, and of the son's son, what things 10:55 I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs I have done among them; 10:59 that ye may know how that I am the Lord. And Moses and Aaron, 11:05 came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord 11:08 God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble 11:12 thyself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. 11:16 Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow will 11:22 I bring the locusts into thy coast: And they shall cover the 11:26 face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: 11:29 and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, 11:33 which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every 11:36 tree which groweth for you out of the field: And they shall 11:40 fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the 11:43 houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, 11:45 not they fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they 11:49 were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, 11:53 and went out from Pharaoh. And Pharaoh's servants said 11:56 unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? 12:00 let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God: 12:03 knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? 12:06 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said 12:11 unto them, Go, serve the Lord your God: but who are they 12:16 that shall go? And Moses said, We will go with our young and 12:20 our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks 12:24 and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast 12:28 unto the Lord. And he said unto them, Let the Lord be so 12:32 with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it 12:36 for evil is before you. Not so: go now ye that are men, 12:41 and serve the Lord; for that ye did desire. 12:44 And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence. 12:47 And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the 12:51 land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon 12:54 the land of Egypt and eat every herb of the land, even all that 12:58 the hail hath left. And Moses stretched forth his rod 13:02 over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon 13:04 the land all that day, and all that night, and when it was 13:08 morning, the east wind brought the locusts. And the locusts 13:11 went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the 13:15 coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there 13:19 were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such 13:22 for they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land 13:25 was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all 13:29 the fruit of the trees which the hail had left and there remained 13:32 not any green thing in the trees or in the herbs of the field, 13:36 through all the land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh called for Moses 13:40 and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the 13:43 Lord your God, and against you. Now therefore forgive, I pray 13:47 thee, my sin only this once, and entreat the Lord your God, 13:51 that he may take away from me this death only. And he went out 13:56 from Pharaoh, and entreated the Lord. And the Lord turned a 13:59 mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast 14:04 them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust 14:07 in all the coasts of Egypt. But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's 14:12 heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go. 14:15 And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward 14:19 heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, 14:23 even darkness which may be felt. 14:25 We'll pick up the story again next time. Thank you for joining 14:29 with me. May God keep you and bless you until then. |
