00:16 Hi and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you 00:20 for joining with me today 00:21 to read the book of Exodus 00:23 in the Word of God. But before we read, 00:25 let's pray together. 00:27 Dear God, thank You so much for this opportunity 00:30 to be in Your presence and read Your words for these next 00:33 few minutes. Please come and be with us 00:36 and help us to find in these words something that You 00:42 would have each of us to take away and apply to the 00:45 situations that we are each facing. 00:47 You know what our needs are. 00:49 Before we have even asked for them You have the answers. 00:52 And so now be with us as we read. 00:54 Give us Your guidance, Your truth. 00:56 May we see You. We love You so much, 00:59 and thank You for loving us. Amen. 01:01 When we were last together we were reading the story of how 01:05 God brought the Israelites absolutely miraculously 01:09 through the Red Sea. They thought that they were 01:11 going to die there with the sea in front of them and Pharaoh 01:14 and his armies behind them. 01:15 But God opened up a way for them and they came through 01:18 on dry ground. And once they got to the other side, 01:20 they were singing His praises and just dancing for joy. 01:23 And then it wasn't just a few days later they were out in the 01:26 wilderness and afraid they were going to die for lack of water, 01:29 lack of food. And I was reading that and I was thinking 01:32 how often in my life that same lack of faith comes 01:36 and how I don't want to be like the Israelites. 01:38 I want to realize that the same God who has brought me safely 01:42 this far is going to take me safely on to His kingdom, 01:45 His home in His own time. And that goes for each of us. 01:48 Let's read on now about the Israelites as they are walking 01:53 through the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. 01:55 We are reading in Exodus 16 and we are picking up on 01:59 verse 10: 02:02 And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole 02:05 congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward 02:08 the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the Lord appeared 02:11 in the cloud. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 02:14 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: 02:17 speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, 02:22 and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; 02:24 and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God. 02:27 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, 02:31 and covered the camp: and in the morning, 02:33 the dew lay round about the host. 02:36 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, 02:39 upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, 02:43 as small as the hoar frost on the ground. 02:46 And when the children of Israel saw it they said one to another, 02:49 It is manna: for they wist not what it was. 02:53 And Moses said unto them, this is the bread which the Lord 02:56 has given you to eat. 02:57 This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded, 02:59 Gather of it every man according to his eating, 03:02 an omer for every man, according to the number of your 03:06 persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents. 03:10 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, 03:13 some more, some less. 03:14 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that 03:18 gathered much had nothing over, 03:20 and he that gathered little had no lack; 03:22 they gathered every man according to his eating. 03:25 And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. 03:29 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; 03:32 but some of them left of it until the morning, 03:35 and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them. 03:38 And they gathered it every morning, 03:41 every man according to his eating: 03:43 and when the sun waxed hot, it melted. 03:46 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered 03:49 twice as much bread, two omers for one man: 03:52 and all the rulers of the congregation came 03:55 and told Moses. 03:57 And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, 04:01 Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto the Lord: 04:05 bake that which ye will bake today, 04:09 and seethe that ye will seethe; 04:11 and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept 04:15 until the morning. And they laid it up till the morning, 04:18 as Moses bade: and it did not stink, 04:21 neither was there any worm therein. 04:23 And Moses said, Eat that today; for today is a Sabbath 04:27 unto the Lord: today you shall not find it in the field. 04:30 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, 04:34 which is the Sabbath, in it there shall be none. 04:38 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people 04:41 on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. 04:45 And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye 04:49 to keep My commandments and My laws? 04:52 See, for that the Lord hath given you the Sabbath, 04:55 therefore He giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; 04:59 abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place 05:03 on the seventh day. 05:05 So the people rested on the seventh day. 05:08 And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: 05:12 and it was like coriander seed, white; 05:15 and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. 05:18 And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord commandeth, 05:22 Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; 05:25 that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you 05:28 in the wilderness, when I brought you forth 05:31 from the land of Egypt. 05:32 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, 05:34 and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up 05:37 before the Lord, to be kept for your generations. 05:39 As the Lord commanded Moses, 05:42 so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. 05:45 And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, 05:48 until they came to a land inhabited; 05:51 they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders 05:53 of the land of Canaan. 05:55 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah. 05:59 We are continuing to read 06:00 in Exodus and this is chapter 17 06:03 the King James version. 06:04 And all the congregation of the children of Israel 06:08 journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, 06:11 according to the commandment of the Lord, 06:12 and pitched in Rephidim: 06:15 and there was no water for the people to drink. 06:17 Wherefore, the people did chide with Moses, and said, 06:21 Give us water that we may drink. 06:23 Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? 06:26 wherefore do ye tempt the Lord? 06:28 And the people thirsted there for water; 06:30 and the people murmured against Moses, and said, 06:32 Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, 06:36 to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? 06:39 And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, 06:42 What shall I do unto this people? 06:44 they be almost ready to stone me. 06:46 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, 06:50 and take with thee of the elders of Israel; 06:53 and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, 06:56 take in thine hand, and go. 06:58 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; 07:03 and thou shalt smite the rock, 07:05 and there shall come water out of it, 07:07 that the people may drink. 07:08 And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 07:12 And he called the name of the place Masah, 07:14 and Meribah, because of the chiding of the 07:17 children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, 07:20 Is the Lord among us, or not? 07:23 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 07:27 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, 07:30 and go out, fight with Amalek: 07:32 tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the 07:36 rod of God in mine hand. 07:37 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him 07:40 and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur 07:44 went up to the top of the hill. 07:47 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, 07:51 that Israel prevailed: 07:52 and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 07:55 But Moses' hands were heavy; 07:58 and they took a stone, and put it under him, 08:00 and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, 08:04 the one on the one side, the other on the other side; 08:07 and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 08:12 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people 08:15 with the edge of the sword. 08:17 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial 08:20 in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: 08:23 for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek 08:27 from under heaven. 08:28 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it 08:31 Jehovahnissi: 08:33 For he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will 08:36 have war with Amalek from generation to generation. 08:41 Continuing with the book of Exodus, and this is chapter 18 08:45 in the King James version. 08:47 When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, 08:51 heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel 08:55 his people, and that the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt; 08:58 Then Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took Zipporah, 09:02 Moses' wife, after he had sent her back, And her two sons; 09:06 of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, 09:09 I have been an alien in a strange land: 09:12 And the name of the other was Eliezer; 09:14 for the God of my father, said he, was my help, 09:17 and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh: 09:19 And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, came with his 09:23 sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, 09:26 where he encamped at the mount of God: 09:28 And he said unto Moses, I thy father-in-law Jethro 09:32 have come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her. 09:36 And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and did obeisance 09:39 and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; 09:42 and they came into the tent. 09:44 Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done 09:48 unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, 09:51 and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, 09:54 and how the Lord delivered them. 09:56 And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the Lord had done 09:59 to Israel, whom He had delivered 10:01 out of the hand of the Egyptians. 10:03 And Jethro said, Blessed be the Lord, who hath delivered you 10:06 out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh, 10:09 who hath delivered the people from under the hand 10:12 of the Egyptians. Now I know that the Lord is greater 10:15 than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly 10:19 He was above them. 10:21 And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law took a burnt offering 10:25 and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all 10:29 the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law 10:32 before God. And it came to pass on the morrow, 10:36 that Moses sat to judge the people: 10:38 and the people stood by Moses 10:40 from the morning unto the evening. 10:41 And when Moses' father-in-law saw all he did to the people, 10:45 he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? 10:49 why sittest thou thyself alone, 10:52 and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even? 10:56 And Moses said unto his father-in-law, 10:59 Because the people come unto me to enquire of God: 11:02 When they have a matter, they come unto me; 11:04 and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know 11:07 the statutes of God, and His laws. 11:09 And Moses' father-in-law said unto him, 11:12 The thing that thou doest is not good. 11:15 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people 11:19 that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; 11:21 thou art not able to perform it thyself alone. 11:25 Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, 11:28 and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people 11:33 to Godward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God: 11:37 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, 11:41 and shalt show them the way wherein they must walk, 11:43 and the work that they must do. 11:45 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people 11:48 able men, such as fear God, men of truth, 11:52 hating covetousness; and place such over them, 11:55 to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, 11:59 rulers of fifties; and rulers of tens: 12:01 And let them judge the people at all seasons: 12:04 and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring 12:08 unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: 12:12 so shall it be easier for thyself, 12:15 and they shall bear the burden with thee. 12:17 If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, 12:21 then thou shalt be able to endure, 12:24 and all this people shall also go to their place in peace. 12:28 So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father-in-law, 12:32 and did all that he had said. 12:34 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, 12:37 and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, 12:40 rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. 12:45 And they judged the people at all seasons: 12:47 the hard causes they brought unto Moses, 12:50 but every small matter they judged themselves. 12:53 And Moses let his father-in-law depart; and he went his way 12:57 into his own land. 13:01 We're continuing with Exodus chapter 19. 13:04 This is the King James version. 13:06 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone 13:09 forth out of the land of Egypt, 13:11 the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. 13:14 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the 13:18 desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; 13:20 and there Israel camped before the mount. 13:23 And Moses went up unto God, 13:25 and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain, saying, 13:28 Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, 13:30 and tell the children of Israel; 13:31 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, 13:34 and how I bare you on eagles wings, 13:36 and brought you unto myself. 13:37 Now therefore, if you will obey My voice indeed, 13:40 and keep My covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure 13:44 unto Me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 13:48 And ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priests, 13:51 and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak 13:55 unto the children of Israel. 13:56 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, 13:59 and laid before their faces all these words 14:02 which the Lord commanded him. 14:04 And all the people answered together, and said, 14:07 All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. 14:11 And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord. 14:15 And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee 14:18 in a thick cloud, that the people may hear what I speak 14:22 with thee, and believe thee for ever. 14:24 And Moses told the words of the people unto the Lord. 14:28 Thank you for joining with me to read today. 14:30 And until next time, may God bless and keep you. 14:33 Goodbye. |
