00:16 Hello, and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for coming apart with me right
00:22 now to read the word of God together.
00:23 Let's pray before we start.
00:25 Dear God, we want to come into Your presence in a special and
00:31 very conscious way right now to sit at Your feet, and to be
00:34 taught from Your word the things that we need to live a life
00:40 pleasing in Your eyes, and the life that You have created us to
00:43 live to Your glory.
00:44 Please be with us now and teach us.
00:46 Amen.
00:47 We're reading in the book of Deuteronomy.
00:50 Moses has brought the children of Israel together to review
00:54 with them various promises and commands, and the history of
00:58 God's deliverance in their lives.
01:00 And across the top of my Bible page right now it says that the
01:04 section we're reading today is the words of the covenant:
01:07 the covenant that God wishes to make with Israel,
01:09 and the covenant that he extends to us as spiritual Israel
01:13 in many cases.
01:14 Let's continue to read together Deuteronomy, chapter 28,
01:17 starting with verse 60, and this is the King James Version.
01:22 Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt,
01:26 which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.
01:29 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in
01:32 the book of this law, them will the Lord bring upon thee,
01:35 until thou be destroyed.
01:36 And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the
01:40 stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey
01:44 the voice of the Lord thy God.
01:46 And it shall come to pass, that as the Lord rejoiced over you to
01:51 do you good, and to multiply you; so the Lord will rejoice
01:54 over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought;
01:57 and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest
02:00 to possess it.
02:01 And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one
02:05 end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt
02:08 serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known,
02:11 even wood and stone.
02:13 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall
02:17 the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee
02:21 there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow
02:25 of mind: and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee;
02:31 and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none
02:35 assurance of thy life: in the morning thou shalt say,
02:39 Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God
02:43 it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt
02:46 fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
02:49 And the Lord shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships,
02:53 by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more
02:57 again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for
03:01 bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.
03:05 We're continuing in chapter 29 of the book of Deuteronomy,
03:09 and this is the King James Version.
03:10 These are the words of the covenant, which the Lord
03:14 commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land
03:17 of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with
03:20 them in Horeb.
03:21 And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them,
03:25 Ye have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land
03:28 of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all
03:32 his land; the great temptations which thine eyes have seen,
03:36 the signs, and those great miracles: yet the Lord hath not
03:39 given you a heart to perceive, and eyes to see,
03:42 and ears to hear, unto this day.
03:44 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes
03:48 are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old
03:51 upon thy foot.
03:52 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong
03:55 drink: that ye might know that I am the Lord Your God.
04:00 And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of
04:03 Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto
04:06 battle, and we smote them: and we took their land, and gave it
04:10 for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites,
04:13 and to the half tribe of Manasseh.
04:14 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them,
04:18 that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
04:20 Ye stand this day all of you before the Lord your God;
04:25 your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers,
04:30 with all the men of Israel, your little ones, your wives, and thy
04:33 stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto
04:36 the drawer of thy water: that thou shouldest enter into
04:40 covenant with the Lord thy God, and into his oath, which the
04:43 Lord thy God maketh with thee this day: that he may establish
04:47 thee today for a people unto himself, and that he may be
04:51 unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn
04:55 unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
04:58 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;
05:02 but with him that standeth here with us this day before the Lord
05:04 our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:
05:07 (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we
05:10 came through the nations which ye passed by; and ye have seen
05:13 their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone,
05:16 silver and gold, which were among them:) lest there should
05:20 be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart
05:23 turneth away this day from the Lord our God, to go and serve
05:26 the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root
05:30 that beareth gall and wormwood; and it come to pass, when he
05:34 heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his
05:37 heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the
05:40 imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
05:43 the Lord will not spare him, but then the anger of the Lord and
05:47 his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses
05:50 that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the Lord
05:53 shall blot out his name from under heaven.
05:56 And the Lord shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes
06:00 of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are
06:02 written in this book of the law: so that the generation to come
06:06 of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger
06:10 that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the
06:13 plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the Lord hath
06:16 laid upon it; and that the whole land thereof is brimstone,
06:20 and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth,
06:23 nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and
06:26 Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboim, which the Lord overthrew in his
06:29 anger, and in his wrath: even all nations shall say, Wherefore
06:35 hath the Lord done thus unto this land? what meaneth the
06:38 heat of this great anger?
06:40 Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of
06:45 the Lord God of their fathers, which he made with them when he
06:48 brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: for they went
06:51 and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods whom they
06:55 knew not, and whom he had not given unto them: and the anger
06:59 of the Lord was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all
07:02 the curses that are written in this book: and the Lord rooted
07:05 them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great
07:08 indignation, and cast them into another land,
07:10 as it is this day.
07:12 The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those
07:16 those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our
07:20 children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
07:25 We're continuing to read the word.
07:27 This is Deuteronomy, chapter 30.
07:30 And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon
07:35 thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before
07:38 thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations,
07:42 whither the Lord thy God hath driven thee, and shalt return
07:45 unto the Lord thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all
07:48 that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all
07:52 thine heart, and with all thy soul; that then the Lord thy God
07:56 will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee,
08:00 and will return and gather thee from all the nations,
08:03 whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.
08:05 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of
08:09 heaven, from thence will the Lord thy God gather thee,
08:12 and from thence will he fetch thee: and the Lord thy God will
08:16 bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed,
08:19 and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good,
08:22 and multiply thee above thy fathers.
08:25 And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart,
08:29 and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all
08:33 thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
08:37 And the Lord thy God will put all these curses upon thine
08:41 enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
08:44 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the Lord,
08:47 and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
08:50 And the Lord thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of
08:54 thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy
08:57 cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the Lord
09:00 will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy
09:05 fathers: if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy
09:09 God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are
09:12 written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the Lord
09:16 thy god with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
09:18 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not
09:22 hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
09:25 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up
09:29 for us to heaven, and bring it unto us,
09:31 that we may hear it, and do it?
09:32 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say,
09:36 Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us,
09:38 that we may hear it, and do it?
09:40 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth,
09:45 and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
09:48 See, I have set before thee this day life and good,
09:54 and death and evil; in that I command thee this day to love
09:59 the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his
10:03 commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, that thou
10:06 mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless
10:11 thee in the land whither thou goest to posseses it.
10:13 But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear,
10:18 but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods,
10:21 and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall
10:25 surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the
10:28 land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
10:31 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you,
10:35 that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing:
10:41 therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
10:48 That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest
10:51 obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he
10:55 is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest
10:59 dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers,
11:02 to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
11:05 Continuing with Deuteronomy, chapter 31.
11:08 This is the King James Version.
11:10 And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.
11:15 And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old
11:18 this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the Lord hath
11:22 said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
11:24 The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will
11:28 destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt
11:31 possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee,
11:35 as the Lord hath said.
11:36 And the Lord shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og,
11:40 kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them,
11:43 whom he destroyed.
11:44 And the Lord shall give them up before your face, that ye may do
11:47 unto them according unto all the commandments which I have
11:50 commanded you.
11:51 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them:
11:56 for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee;
12:01 he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
12:04 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight
12:08 of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must
12:12 go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn
12:15 unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them
12:18 to inherit it.
12:19 And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee, he will be with
12:25 thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not,
12:28 neither be dismayed.
12:29 And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests
12:33 the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord,
12:36 and unto all the elders of Israel.
12:38 And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every
12:41 seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release,
12:44 in the feast of tabernacles, when all Israel is come to
12:47 appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall
12:50 choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel
12:54 in their hearing.
12:55 Gather the people together, men, and women, and children,
12:58 and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear,
13:01 and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God,
13:04 and observe to do all the words of this law: and that their
13:09 children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn
13:13 to fear the Lord your God, as long as ye live in the land
13:16 whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
13:18 And the Lord said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that
13:23 thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the
13:26 tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge.
13:30 And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the
13:33 tabernacle of the congregation.
13:35 And the Lord appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a
13:38 cloud: and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door
13:41 of the tabernacle.
13:42 And the Lord said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with
13:46 thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go whoring
13:50 after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to
13:53 be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which
13:56 I have made with them.
13:57 then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day,
14:00 and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from
14:02 them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and
14:06 troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day,
14:09 Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is
14:11 not among us?
14:12 And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils
14:16 which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto
14:20 other gods.
14:21 Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach it
14:25 the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song
14:28 may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.
14:31 Thank you for joining with me today.
14:34 Goodbye.
