00:16 Hello, and welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for joining me today to read the 00:22 Bible together. Let's pray before we start. 00:24 Dear God, thank you for your blessings. Thank you for your 00:29 safe keeping and thank you for your mercy that has brought us 00:33 to this point to hear your word again. Please be with us now, 00:37 as we read and give us an understanding that will draw us 00:40 closer to thee. We love you so much and thank you for loving us 00:43 Amen. We're reading in the book of 00:46 1st Kings, in chapter 14, and starting with verse 20. 00:51 And this is the King James Version. 00:53 And the days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty 00:58 years: and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son 01:02 reigned in his stead. And Rehoboam the son of Solomon 01:07 reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he 01:10 began to reign, and he reigned 17 years in Jerusalem, the city 01:14 which the Lord did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put 01:18 his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess. 01:23 And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked 01:26 him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed above 01:30 all that their fathers had done. For they also built them high 01:34 places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under 01:38 every green tree. And there were also sodomites in the land: 01:42 and they did according to all the abominations of the nations 01:45 which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel. 01:48 And it came to pass in the 5th year of king Rehoboam, 01:53 that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem: 01:57 And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, 02:00 and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all: 02:04 and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made. 02:08 And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields, 02:12 and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, 02:16 which kept the door of the king's house, 02:18 And it was so, when the king went into the house of the Lord, 02:22 that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard 02:26 chamber. Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that 02:30 he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles 02:33 of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Rehoboam and 02:37 Jeroboam all their days. And Rehoboam slept with his fathers 02:41 and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. 02:44 And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess. 02:48 and Abijam his son reigned in his stead. 02:52 We're continuing now in 1st Kings, chapter 15, 02:56 and this is the King James Version. 02:58 Now in the 18th year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat 03:03 reigned Abijam over Judah. 3 years reigned he in Jerusalem. 03:07 And his mother's name was Maachah, the daughter 03:11 of Abishalom. And he walked in all the sins of his father, 03:15 which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect 03:17 with the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father. 03:20 Nevertheless for David's sake did the Lord his God give him 03:25 a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, 03:29 and to establish Jerusalem: because David did that which 03:33 was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned not aside 03:37 from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, 03:41 save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. 03:44 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam 03:49 all the days of his life. Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, 03:54 and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the 03:57 chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war 04:01 between Abijam and Jeroboam. And Abijam slept with his fathers. 04:06 And they buried him in the city of David: And Asa his son 04:10 reigned in his stead. And in the 20th year of Jeroboam 04:15 king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah. And 41 years reigned he 04:20 in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Maacha, the daughter 04:24 of Abishalom. And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of 04:30 the Lord, as did David his father. And he took away 04:33 the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols 04:36 that his fathers had made. And also Maacha his mother, 04:40 even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an 04:44 idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, 04:48 and burnt it by the brook of Kidron. But the high places 04:52 were not removed: nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect with the 04:57 Lord all his days. And he brought in the things which 05:01 his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had 05:04 dedicated, into the house of the Lord, silver, and gold, and 05:08 vessels. And there was war between Asa and Baasha, king of 05:13 Israel all their days and Baasha king of Israel went up against 05:18 Judah and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any to go 05:21 out or come in to Asa king of Judah. Then Asa took all the 05:26 silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the 05:29 house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king's house, 05:32 and delivered them into the hand of his servants: and king Asa 05:36 sent them to Benhadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, 05:41 king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying, 05:44 There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and 05:48 thy father: behold I have sent unto thee a present of silver 05:53 and gold; come and break thy league with Baasha king of 05:57 Israel, that he may depart from me. So Benhadad hearkened unto 06:03 king Asa, and sent the captains of the hosts which he had 06:07 against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, 06:11 and Abelbethmaachah, and all Cineroth, with all the land of 06:16 Napthali. And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, 06:20 that he left off building of Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah. 06:25 Then king Asa made a proclamation throughout all 06:29 Judah; none was exempted: and they took away the stones 06:33 of Ramah, and the timber thereof wherewith Baasha had builded; 06:37 and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah. 06:42 The rest of all the acts of Asa and all his might, and all that 06:48 he did, and the cities which he build, are they not written in 06:52 the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 06:54 Nevertheless in the time of his old age he was diseased 07:00 in his feet. And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried 07:04 with his fathers in the city of David his father and Jehoshaphat 07:08 his son reigned in his stead. And Nadab the son of Jeroboam 07:14 began to reign over Israel in the 2nd year of Asa king of 07:17 Judah, and reigned over Israel 2 years. And he did evil 07:24 in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, 07:26 and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin. 07:29 And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, 07:33 conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, 07:38 which belonged to the Philistines; 07:39 for Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon. 07:42 even in the 3rd year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, 07:46 and reigned in his stead. And it came to pass, when he reigned, 07:51 that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not 07:54 to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, 07:58 according unto the saying of the Lord, which he spake by his 08:00 servant Ahijah the Shilonite: because of the sins of Jeroboam 08:05 which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, 08:08 by his provocation wherewith he provoked the Lord God 08:11 of Israel to anger. Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all 08:17 that he did, are they not written in the book of 08:19 the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 08:21 And there was war between Asa and Baasa king of Israel all 08:27 their days. In the 3rd year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha 08:33 the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, 24 years. 08:38 And he did evil in the sight pf the Lord, and walked in the way 08:42 of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin. 08:46 Continuing in the book of 1st Kings, chapter 16. 08:51 This is the King James Version. 08:52 Then the word of the Lord came to Jehu the son of Hanani 09:00 against Baasha, saying, Forasmuch as I exalted thee 09:05 out of the dust, and made thee prince over my people Israel; 09:08 and thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast made my 09:12 people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins. 09:16 Behold, I will take away the posterity of Baasha, 09:21 and the posterity of his house; and will make thy house like the 09:25 house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. Him that dieth of Baasha 09:30 in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth of his in the 09:34 fields shall the fowls of the air eat. Now the rest of the 09:39 acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, are they not 09:43 written in the book of the chronicles of the kings 09:45 of Israel? So Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in 09:50 Tirzah: and Elah his son reigned in his stead. 09:55 And also by the hand of the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani 10:00 came the word of the Lord against Baasha, and against 10:03 his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the 10:07 Lord, in provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, 10:10 in being like the house of Jeroboam; 10:12 and because he killed him. In the twenty and sixth year of Asa 10:17 the king of Judah began Elah the son of Baasha to reign 10:21 over Israel in Tirzah, 2 years. And his servant Zimri, captain 10:26 of half his chariots, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah 10:31 drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza steward of his 10:34 house in Tirzah. And Zimri went in and smote him and killed him, 10:39 in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, 10:43 and reigned in his stead. And it came to pass, when he began to 10:48 reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he slew all the 10:51 house of Baasha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, 10:56 neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends. Thus did Zimri 11:01 destroy all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the 11:04 Lord, which he spake against Baasha by Jehu the prophet. 11:07 For all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, 11:11 by which they sinned, and by which they made Israel to sin 11:14 in provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their 11:17 vanities. Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he 11:22 did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the 11:25 kings of Israel? In the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of 11:29 Judah did Zimri reign seven days in Tirzah. And the people were 11:34 encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to 11:37 the Philistines. And the people that were encamped heard say, 11:42 Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slain the king: 11:44 wherefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the host, 11:49 king over Israel that day in the camp. And Omri went up from 11:53 Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah. 11:57 And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, 12:00 that he went into the palace of the king's house, and burnt 12:04 the king's house over him with fire, and died, for his sins 12:10 which he sinned in doing evil in the sight of the Lord, 12:12 in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which 12:16 he did to make Israel to sin. Now the rest of the acts of 12:20 Zimri, and his treason that he wrought, are they not written 12:24 in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 12:26 Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: 12:31 half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, 12:35 to make him king; and half followed Omri. 12:38 But the people that followed Omri prevailed against the 12:43 people that followed Tibni the son of Ginath: so Tibni died, 12:46 and Omri reigned. In the thirty and first year of Asa king of 12:52 Judah began Omri to reign over Israel, 12 years: 12:56 6 years reigned he in Tirzah. And he bought the hill Samaria 13:01 of Shemer for 2 talents of silver, and built on the hill, 13:05 and called the name of the city which he built after the name of 13:08 Shemer, owner of the hill of Samaria. 13:11 But Omri wrought evil in the eyes 13:13 of the Lord, and did worse than all that were before him. For he 13:18 walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, 13:21 and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin, 13:23 to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger with their 13:26 vanities. Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did 13:30 and his might that he shewed, are they not written 13:33 in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 13:36 So Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria: 13:40 and Ahab his son reigned in his stead. 13:43 And in the thirty and eighth year of Asa king of Judah 13:46 began Ahab the son of Omri to reign over Israel: and Ahab 13:51 the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria 22 years. 13:55 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord 13:59 above all that were before him. And it came to pass, 14:03 as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of 14:06 Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel 14:10 the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and 14:14 served Baal, and worshipped him. And he reared up an altar 14:18 for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. 14:22 And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke 14:25 the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel 14:28 that were before him. Please join me again next time 14:32 to continue the story in 1st Kings. Goodbye. |
