00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and we're going to continue reading today 00:20 in the book of 1st Chronicles, and the stories of the reign 00:23 of King David and on to King Solomon. Before we start, let's 00:27 pray together. Dear Lord, thank you again for a time apart to 00:33 sit with your word, to receive it for correction and reproof 00:38 and doctrine and instruction in righteousness. 00:40 Please send your Holy Spirit to teach us what you have for each 00:45 one of us out of the words we'll hear today. We love you so much 00:48 and thank you for loving us. Amen. 00:50 We left off in 1st Chronicles, chapter 23, we're going to pick 00:56 up with verse 29. And we're reading about the duties of the 01:00 Levites. Both for the shewbread, and 01:04 for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened 01:07 cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that 01:08 which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for 01:11 all manner of measure and size; and to stand every morning 01:16 to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even; 01:19 And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the Lord, 01:23 in the Sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, 01:26 by number, according to the order commanded unto them, 01:29 continually before the Lord: And that they should keep the 01:34 charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of 01:38 the holy place, and the charge the sons of Aaron their brethren 01:42 in the service of the house of the Lord. 01:44 In the chapters that are coming here, 24, 25, so on, there's a 01:51 lot of genealogy; so we're going to skip ahead to chapter 28. 01:56 1st Chronicles, chapter 28, beginning with verse 1. 02:01 And this is the King James Version. 02:02 And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes 02:07 of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered 02:10 to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, 02:13 and the captions over the hundreds, and the stewards 02:15 over all the substance and possession of the king, 02:18 and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty 02:21 men, and with all the valiant men, unto Jerusalem. 02:25 Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, 02:29 Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine 02:34 heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant 02:36 of the Lord, and for the foot stool of our God, and had made 02:40 ready for the building: But God said unto me, Thou shalt not 02:45 build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of 02:47 war, and hast shed blood. Howbeit the Lord God of Israel 02:52 chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel 02:56 for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; 02:59 and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among 03:03 the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all 03:08 Israel: And of my all sons, for the Lord hath given me many sons 03:14 he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the 03:18 kingdom of the Lord over Israel. And he said unto me, Solomon 03:22 thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen 03:27 him to be my son, and I will be his father. Moreover I will 03:31 establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my 03:35 commandments and my judgments, as at this day. Now therefore 03:40 in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the Lord, 03:43 and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the 03:47 commandments of the Lord your God: that ye may possess this 03:51 good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children 03:54 after you for ever. And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the 04:01 God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a 04:04 willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, 04:08 and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: 04:11 If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou 04:17 forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. Take heed now; 04:22 for the Lord hath chosen thee to build an house for the 04:24 sanctuary: be strong, and do it. Then David gave to Solomon 04:30 his son the pattern of the porch and of the houses thereof, 04:34 and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers 04:36 thereof, and of the inner parlors thereof, and of the 04:39 place of the mercy seat, and the pattern of all that he had 04:43 by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the Lord, 04:45 and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the 04:49 house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated 04:52 things: Also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, 04:56 and for all the work of the service of the house of the 04:59 Lord, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the Lord 05:03 He gave of gold by weight for things of gold, 05:06 for all instruments for all manner of service; 05:09 silver also for all instruments of silver by weight, 05:12 for all instruments of every kind of service: 05:15 Even the weight for the candle sticks of gold, and for their 05:18 lamps of gold, by weight for every candlestick, 05:21 and for the lamps thereof, and for the candlesticks of 05:24 silver by weight, both for the candlestick, and also for the 05:27 lamps thereof: according to the use of every candlestick. 05:30 And by weight he gave gold for the tables of shewbread, 05:34 for every table; and likewise silver for the tables of silver: 05:38 Also pure gold for the flesh hooks, and the bowls, 05:41 and the cups: and for the golden basins he gave gold by weight 05:45 for every basin; and likewise silver by weight for every basin 05:49 of silver: And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; 05:54 and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubims, 05:57 that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the 06:00 covenant of the Lord. All this, said David, the Lord made me 06:05 understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works 06:09 of this pattern. And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong 06:14 and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: 06:19 for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; 06:23 He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast 06:27 finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord 06:31 and, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, 06:34 even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of 06:38 God: and there shall be with thee for all manner of 06:40 workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner 06:45 of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly 06:50 at they commandment. We're continuing in 06:53 1st Chronicles, chapter 29, and this is the King James Version. 06:58 Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, 07:02 Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and 07:08 tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, 07:13 but for the Lord God. Now I have prepared with all my might 07:18 for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold 07:22 and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things 07:26 of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of 07:29 wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, 07:34 and of divers colors, and all manner of precious stones, 07:37 and marble stones in abundance. Moreover, because I have set 07:42 my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper 07:46 good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my 07:50 God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house 07:54 even 3,000 talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and 7,000 07:59 talents of refined silver to overlay the walls of the houses 08:04 withal: The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things 08:09 of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands 08:12 of artificers. And who then is willing to consecrate 08:16 his service this day unto the Lord? Then the chief of the 08:22 fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, 08:24 and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers 08:28 of the king's work, offered willingly, and gave for the 08:32 service of the house of God of gold 5,000 talents and 10,000 08:37 drams, and of silver 10,000 talents, and of brass 18,000 08:42 talents, and 100,000 talents of iron. And they with whom 08:47 precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the 08:51 house of the Lord, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite. 08:55 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, 09:00 because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: 09:04 and David the king also rejoiced with great joy. Wherefore David 09:09 blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, 09:12 Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever 09:16 and ever. Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and 09:22 the glory, and the victory, and majesty: for all that is in the 09:26 heaven and in the earth is thine thine is the kingdom, O Lord, 09:31 and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor 09:37 come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is 09:41 power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great 09:44 and give strength unto all. Now therefore our God, we thank thee 09:51 and praise thy glorious name. But who am I, and what is my 09:57 people, that we should be able to offer so willingly 10:01 after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own 10:05 have we given thee. For we are strangers before thee, 10:09 and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth 10:14 are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. O Lord our God, 10:19 all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house 10:23 for thine holy name cometh of thine hand and is all thine own. 10:29 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast 10:35 pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine 10:40 heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I 10:44 seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer 10:49 willingly unto thee. O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel 10:54 our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the 10:58 thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart 11:02 unto thee: And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, 11:06 to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, 11:09 and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the 11:12 which I have made provision. And David said to all the 11:16 congregation, Now bless the Lord your God. And all the 11:20 congregation blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and bowed 11:23 down their heads, and worshipped the Lord, and the king. 11:27 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the Lord, and offered 11:30 burnt offerings unto the Lord, on the morrow after that day, 11:34 even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand 11:37 lambs with their drink offerings and sacrifices in abundance 11:42 for all Israel: and did eat and drink before the Lord on 11:46 that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son 11:50 of David king the second time, and anointed him unto the Lord 11:53 to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest. 11:56 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of 12:01 David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him. 12:05 And all the princes and the mighty men and all the sons 12:09 likewise of king David, submitted themselves 12:11 unto Solomon the king. And the Lord magnified Solomon 12:15 exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him 12:19 such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him 12:23 in Israel. Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel 12:29 And the time that he reigned over Israel was 40 years; 12:32 seven years reigned he in Hebron and thirty and three years 12:37 reigned he in Jerusalem. And he died in a good old age, 12:42 full of days, riches, and honor: and Solomon his son reigned 12:48 in his stead. Now the acts of David the king, first and last, 12:52 behold, they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, 12:57 and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of 13:00 Gad the seer, with all his reign and his might, and the times 13:05 that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the 13:09 kingdoms of the countries. - We're continuing now in 13:13 the second book of the Chronicles, chapter 1, 13:16 This is the king James Version. And Solomon the son of David 13:21 was strengthened in his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with 13:24 him, and magnified him exceedingly. 13:28 Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains 13:31 of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every 13:35 governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers. 13:37 So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, 13:40 went to the high place that was at Gibeon, for there was the 13:44 tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant 13:47 of the Lord had made in the wilderness. But the ark of God 13:51 had David brought up from Kirjathjearim to the place which 13:55 David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it 13:58 at Jerusalem. Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel 14:02 the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the 14:05 tabernacle of the Lord: and Solomon and the congregation 14:09 sought unto it. And Solomon went up thither to the brasen 14:12 altar before the Lord, which was at the tabernacle of the 14:16 congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it 14:19 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, 14:26 Ask what I shall give thee.
