00:15 Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and when we were last together we were 00:20 reading that King Solomon had completed the temple that he 00:24 built for God and was laying the furniture around and we had 00:29 left as he was putting the ark of the covenant into 00:32 the most holy place. We'll pick up there but let's pray together 00:35 before we start. Dear Lord, thank you for your 00:40 word that is to us, life and light. We ask that you will 00:45 prepare in our hearts, the dwelling place of your spirit; 00:50 that you may be with us always, just as Solomon prepared a 00:54 house for you in the days of Israel, come now and do your 01:00 work in us that we may welcome you to be a part of our lives 01:05 and our hearts for ever. We love you so much and thank you 01:08 for loving us. Amen. Picking up in 2nd Chronicles, 01:13 chapter 5, and verse 10, in describing the most holy place 01:17 of the ark of the covenant. There was nothing in the ark 01:20 save the 2 tables which Moses put therein at Horeb, 01:24 when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel, 01:26 when they came out of Egypt. And it came to pass, when the 01:30 priests were come out of the holy place: for all the priests 01:32 that were present were sanctified, and did not then 01:35 wait by course. Also the Levites which were the singers, 01:39 all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons 01:45 and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, 01:48 having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end 01:53 of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests 01:56 sounding with trumpets: It came even to pass, as the trumpeters 02:00 and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard 02:04 in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up 02:08 their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of 02:11 music, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; 02:14 for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled 02:19 with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; So that the priests 02:24 could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: 02:27 for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God. 02:32 Continuing in 2nd Chronicles, chapter 6, and this is the 02:36 King James Version. Then said Solomon, 02:40 The Lord has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. 02:43 But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place 02:47 for thy dwelling for ever. And the king turned his face, 02:50 and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: 02:52 and all the congregation of Israel stood. And he said, 02:56 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath with his hands 02:59 fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father, 03:02 David, saying, Since the day that I brought forth my people 03:06 out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of 03:09 Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; 03:13 neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel: 03:17 But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; 03:21 and have chosen David to be over my people Israel. 03:25 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an 03:29 house for the name of the Lord God of Israel. But the Lord said 03:32 to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build 03:36 and house my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine 03:40 heart: Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; 03:44 but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, 03:48 he shall build the house for my name. The Lord therefore hath 03:53 performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the 03:57 room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, 04:00 as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name 04:04 of the Lord God of Israel. And in it have I put the ark, 04:09 wherein is the covenant of the Lord, that he made with the 04:12 children of Israel. And he stood before the altar of the Lord in 04:16 the presence of all the congregation of Israel, 04:18 and spread forth his hands: For Solomon had made a brasen 04:21 scaffold, of 5 cubits long, and 5 cubits broad, and 3 cubits 04:26 high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it 04:29 he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the 04:34 congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward 04:37 heaven, and said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like 04:43 thee in the heaven, nor in the earth: which keepest covenant, 04:47 and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee 04:50 with all their hearts: Thou which has kept with thy servant 04:56 David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest 05:01 with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, 05:03 as it is this day. Now therefore O Lord God of Israel, keep with 05:09 thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, 05:13 saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit 05:16 upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed 05:21 to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me. 05:26 Now then, O Lord God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which 05:31 thou hast spoken unto thy servant David. 05:34 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? 05:40 behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; 05:44 how much less this house which I have built! Have respect 05:49 therefore to the prayer of thy servant and to his supplication, 05:53 O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which 05:57 thy servant prayeth before thee: That thine eyes may be 06:00 open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof 06:05 thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; 06:07 to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this 06:11 place. Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant 06:15 and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this 06:18 place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven 06:22 and when thou hearest, forgive. If a man sin against 06:28 his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, 06:32 and the oath come before thine altar in this house; Then hear 06:36 thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants by requiting 06:40 the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; 06:44 and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his 06:47 righteousness. And if thy people Israel be put to the worse 06:51 before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; 06:55 and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make 06:58 supplication before thee in this house; Then hear thou 07:02 from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, 07:05 and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them 07:08 and to their fathers. When the heaven is shut up, 07:11 and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; 07:15 yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, 07:19 and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them; 07:23 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, 07:27 and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good 07:30 way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, 07:34 which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance. 07:37 If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, 07:41 if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillars; 07:45 if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; 07:48 whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be: 07:52 Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be 07:56 made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one 08:01 shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread 08:04 forth his hands in this house: Then hear thou from heaven 08:08 thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man 08:14 according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; 08:17 for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men: 08:21 That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways so long as they live 08:26 in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers. Moreover 08:31 concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, 08:34 which is come from a far country for thy great name's sake, 08:38 and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; 08:40 if they come and pray in this house; Then hear thou from thy 08:44 heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all 08:48 that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people 08:52 of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee as doth thy people 08:56 Israel, and may know that this house which I have built 09:00 is called by thy name. If thy people go out to war against 09:05 their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, 09:08 and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen 09:12 and the house which I have built for thy name; then hear thou 09:16 from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and 09:18 maintain their cause. If they sin against thee, for there is 09:24 no man which sinneth not, and thou be angry with them, 09:27 and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry 09:30 them away captives unto a land far off or near; yet if they 09:36 bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive 09:39 and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, 09:43 saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt 09:47 wickedly; If they return to thee with all their heart 09:52 and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, 09:55 whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their 09:58 land which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the 10:01 city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have 10:04 built for thy name: Then hear thou from the heavens, 10:08 even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their 10:11 supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy 10:15 people which have sinned against thee. Now, my God, let I beseech 10:21 thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto 10:26 the prayer that is made in this place. Now therefore arise, 10:31 O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of 10:36 thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, be clothed with 10:41 salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness. 10:45 O Lord God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: 10:51 remember the mercies of David thy servant. 10:55 Continuing in 2nd Chronicles, chapter 7, and this is the 10:59 King James Version. Now when Solomon had made an 11:04 end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed 11:09 the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the 11:13 Lord filled the house. And the priests could not enter into 11:17 the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled 11:19 the Lord's house. And when all the children of Israel saw how 11:23 the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house 11:26 they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the 11:30 pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he 11:34 is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. Then the king and all 11:40 the people offered sacrifices before the Lord. 11:43 And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen, 11:47 and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: 11:50 so the king an all the people dedicated the house of God. 11:53 And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with 11:59 instruments of music of the Lord which David the king had made 12:02 to praise the Lord, because his mercy endureth for ever, 12:05 when David praised by their ministry and the priests sounded 12:10 the trumpets before them, and all Israel stood. Moreover 12:14 Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the 12:17 house of the Lord: for there he offered burnt offerings 12:20 and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brasen 12:23 altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the 12:25 burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat. 12:29 Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, 12:32 and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, 12:35 from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt. 12:38 And in the 8th day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept 12:42 the dedication of the altar 7 days, and the feast 7 days. 12:46 And on the three and twentieth day of the 7th month he sent 12:50 the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart 12:55 for the goodness that the Lord had shewed unto David, 12:57 and to Solomon, and to Israel his people. 13:01 Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord, and the king's 13:04 house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in 13:08 the house of the Lord, and in his own house, he prosperously 13:11 effected. And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said 13:15 unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen 13:19 this place to myself for an house of sacrifice. If I shut up 13:24 heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to 13:27 devour the land or if I send pestilence among my people; 13:31 If my people which are called by my name, shall humble 13:36 themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their 13:41 wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive 13:46 their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be 13:50 open and my ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this 13:55 place. For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my 13:59 name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall 14:05 be there perpetually. And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before 14:10 me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I 14:13 have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my 14:16 judgments; then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, 14:20 according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, 14:23 There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel. 14:27 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, 14:31 which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, 14:34 and worship them; Then I will pluck them up the roots 14:38 out of my land which I have given them. |
