00:15 Hello, and welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me, today
00:21 to read the word of God. Before we start, let's pray together.
00:24 Dear God, thank you so much for your many blessings
00:29 in each of our lives. And now in this time as we come apart
00:33 to hear your word, please send the Holy Spirit to bring
00:37 the understanding to each of our hearts
00:38 of the word that you would have us to hear today.
00:41 And may it bear fruit in our life to your glory.
00:43 We love you so much and thank you for loving us. Amen.
00:47 When we were last together, we were reading in 2nd Chronicles,
00:51 chapter 18. And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat
00:55 are preparing to go into battle and the king of Israel
01:00 has decided that he will disguise himself,
01:03 and we will now pick up the story in 2nd Chronicles 18,
01:07 verse 30, and this is the King James Version.
01:10 Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains
01:15 of the chariots that were with him, saying, Fight ye not with
01:19 small or great, save only with the king of Israel.
01:23 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots
01:26 saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel.
01:30 Therefore they compassed about him to fight: but Jehoshaphat
01:35 cried out and the Lord helped him; and God moved them
01:39 to depart from him. For it came to pass, that, when the captains
01:43 of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel
01:47 they turned back again from pursuing him. And a certain man
01:52 drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel
01:55 between the joints of the harness: therefore he said to
01:58 his chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me
02:02 out of the host; for I am wounded
02:03 And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel
02:08 stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians
02:11 until the even: and about the time of the sun going down
02:16 he died. - We're continuing in 2nd Chronicles, chapter 19.
02:22 And this is the King James Version.
02:24 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house
02:29 in peace to Jerusalem. And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer
02:35 went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat,
02:38 Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them
02:42 that hate the Lord? Therefore is wrath upon thee from before
02:46 the Lord. Nevertheless there are good things found in thee,
02:50 in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land,
02:53 and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.
02:56 And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again
03:00 through the people from Beersheba to mount Ephraim,
03:04 and brought them back unto the Lord God of their fathers.
03:06 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities
03:11 of Judah, city by city. And said to the judges,
03:15 Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man,
03:19 but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.
03:22 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you;
03:26 take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord
03:29 our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
03:34 Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites,
03:38 and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel,
03:41 for the judgment of the Lord, and for controversies,
03:44 when they returned to Jerusalem. And he charged them, saying,
03:48 Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully,
03:51 and with a perfect heart. And what cause soever shall come
03:56 to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between
03:59 blood and blood, between law and commandment,
04:02 statutes and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they
04:06 trespass not against the Lord, and so wrath come upon you,
04:10 and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not trespass.
04:15 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all
04:20 matters of the Lord and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler
04:24 of the house of Judah, for all the king's matters:
04:27 also the Levites shall be officers before you.
04:31 Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good.
04:36 We're continuing in chapter 20 of 2nd Chronicles,
04:41 and this is the King James Version.
04:42 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab,
04:48 and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside
04:52 the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
04:55 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying,
04:59 There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea
05:04 on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar,
05:10 which is Engedi. And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek
05:15 the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
05:19 And Judah gathered themselves together to ask help of the Lord
05:25 even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord
05:30 And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah
05:34 and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,
05:38 and said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God
05:43 in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the
05:48 heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might,
05:52 so that none is able to withstand thee?
05:55 Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants
06:00 of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the
06:04 seed of Abraham thy friend forever?
06:07 And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary
06:10 therein for thy name, saying, If, when evil cometh upon us,
06:15 as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine,
06:20 we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name
06:25 is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then
06:30 thou wilt hear and help. And now behold, the children of Ammon
06:36 and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel
06:40 invade, when they came out of land of Egypt, but they turned
06:42 from them, and destroyed them not: Behold, I say, how they
06:46 reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession,
06:49 which thou hast given us to inherit. O our God, wilt thou
06:54 not judge them? for we have no might against this great company
06:59 that cometh against us; neither know we what to do:
07:03 but our eyes are upon thee. And all Judah stood before
07:09 the Lord with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
07:12 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah,
07:18 the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons
07:24 of Asaph, came the spirit of the Lord in the midst of
07:27 the congregation; and he said, Hearken ye, all Judah,
07:31 and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat,
07:35 Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed
07:41 by reason of this great multitude;
07:43 for the battle is not yours, but God's.
07:46 Tomorrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up
07:52 by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end
07:55 of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
07:59 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves,
08:03 stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you,
08:08 O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed;
08:13 tomorrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.
08:18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground:
08:23 and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem
08:26 fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.
08:29 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites,
08:33 and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise
08:37 the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
08:41 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth
08:44 into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth,
08:48 Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah,
08:52 and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God,
08:57 so shall ye be established; believe his prophets,
09:02 so shall ye prosper. And when he had consulted with the people
09:07 he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise
09:12 the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army,
09:15 and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth forever.
09:21 And when they began to sing and to praise,
09:25 the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab,
09:30 and mount Seir, which were come against Judah;
09:33 and they were smitten. For the children of Ammon and Moab
09:37 stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay
09:41 and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the
09:46 inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
09:49 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness,
09:53 they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead
09:57 bodies fallen to the earth, fallen to the earth,
09:59 and none escaped. And when Jehoshaphat and his people came
10:04 to take away the spoil of them, they found among them
10:07 an abundance both riches with the dead bodies,
10:10 and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves,
10:13 more than they could carry away: and they were three days
10:17 in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
10:19 And on the 4th day they assembled themselves in the
10:23 valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the Lord:
10:28 therefore the name of the same place was called,
10:30 The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
10:32 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem,
10:37 and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them,
10:40 to go again to Jerusalem with Joy; for the Lord had made them
10:45 to rejoice over their enemies. And they came to Jerusalem
10:49 with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house
10:53 of the Lord. And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those
10:58 countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against
11:01 the enemies of Israel. So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet:
11:06 for his God gave him rest round about.
11:10 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five
11:15 years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty
11:17 and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah
11:22 the daughter of Shilhi. And he walked in the way of Asa
11:27 his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was
11:31 right in the sight of the Lord. Howbeit the high places were not
11:37 taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their
11:41 hearts unto the God of their fathers.
11:44 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last,
11:48 behold they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani,
11:53 who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
11:56 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself
12:01 with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
12:05 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish:
12:10 and they made the ships in Eziongeber.
12:14 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against
12:20 Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with
12:25 Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy works. And the ships were
12:30 broken, and they were not able to go to Tarshish.
12:33 We're continuing to read in 2nd Chronicles, chapter 21.
12:38 This is the King James Version.
12:39 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his
12:45 fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned
12:49 in his stead. and he had brethren the sons of
12:53 Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah,
12:57 and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the
13:02 sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.
13:04 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold,
13:09 and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah:
13:12 but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram because he was the
13:17 firstborn. Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his
13:21 father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren
13:25 with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.
13:29 Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign,
13:33 and he reigned 8 years in Jerusalem. And he walked in
13:37 the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab:
13:41 for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that
13:45 which was evil in the eyes of the Lord.
13:47 Howbeit the Lord would not destroy the house of David,
13:51 because of the covenant that he had made with David,
13:53 and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons
13:58 forever. In his days the Edomites revolted from under
14:03 the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.
14:06 Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots
14:10 with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites
14:13 which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots.
14:16 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah
14:20 unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from
14:24 under his hand; because he had forsaken the Lord God
14:27 of his fathers. Moreover he made high places in the mountains
14:31 of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem
14:34 to commit fornication and compelled Judah thereto.
14:37 Please join me again next time to read the word of God.
