00:15 Hello, Welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me today to 00:20 read in the word of God, the story of Job. 00:23 Before we start, let's pray together. 00:25 Dear God, as we continue to read the story of Job, please come 00:32 and be present in our understanding so that we may 00:36 know the lesson that you have here for each of us in whatever 00:41 trial or difficulty we are facing. We love you so much and 00:45 thank you for loving us. Amen. We've been reading the story of 00:49 Job, who had been living a life that seemed particularly blessed 00:55 He was wealthy, had a wonderful family. And then the Lord 00:59 permitted Satan to bring trials against Job; because Job was 01:03 upright in heart. And Satan accused God, saying, He is only 01:06 doing this because you're blessing him. So God permitted 01:09 Satan to take away all of Job's stuff, to destroy Job's family, 01:16 and to bring boils upon Job, so that he was a disgrace and a 01:20 laughing stock to his friends and those who saw him. 01:24 His friends have come to have a dialog with him about why this 01:28 had happened to him - what had he done wrong? What hidden sin 01:31 did he have and Job maintained that he is right before God. 01:35 And they continue to talk back and forth about what purpose 01:40 would this be serving to a servant obedient to God. 01:44 And then God comes to speak to Job and that where we're picking 01:48 up this story. And God is laying out for Job some of his 01:53 creation. He's saying, Can you tell me how this happened. 01:58 Can you describe for me how these things came to be, and 02:01 Job is listening and realizing, No, he can't explain God 02:05 or his purposes, or his power. We're going to pick up now 02:09 in God's speech to Job, he's describing here, leviathan. 02:14 Reading in Job, chapter 41, starting with verse, 24, and 02:18 this is the King James Version. His heart is as firm as a stone; 02:24 yea as hard as a piece of the nether millstone 02:27 When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: 02:31 by reason of breakings they purify themselves. 02:34 The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, 02:39 the dart, nor the habergeon. He esteemeth iron as straw, 02:44 and brass as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee: 02:48 slingstones are turned with him unto stubble. Darts are counted 02:54 as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear. 02:57 Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things 03:02 upon the mire. He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: 03:06 he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. 03:10 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep 03:15 to be hoary. Upon earth there is not his like, 03:19 who is made without fear. He beholdeth all high things: 03:23 he is a king over all the children of pride. 03:26 Now we're finishing in the book of Job, chapter 42. 03:31 This is the King James Version. Then Job answered the Lord, 03:36 and said, I know that thou canst do every thing, 03:41 and that no thought can be withholden from thee. 03:45 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? 03:49 therefore have I uttered that I understood not; 03:54 things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. 03:59 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, 04:04 and declare thou unto me. I have hard of thee by the hearing of 04:08 the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, 04:15 and repent in dust and ashes. And it was so, that after the 04:22 Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to 04:26 Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, 04:31 and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me 04:35 the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. 04:38 Therefore take unto you now 7 bullocks and 7 rams, 04:42 and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt 04:46 offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: 04:49 for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, 04:54 in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, 04:57 like my servant Job. So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad 05:03 the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did 05:07 according as the Lord commanded them: the Lord also accepted Job 05:11 and the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed 05:17 for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had 05:22 before. Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his 05:27 sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, 05:31 and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him 05:35 and comforted him over all the evil that the Lord had brought 05:38 upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, 05:41 and every one an earring of gold. So the Lord blessed 05:46 the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had 05:51 14,000 sheep, and 6,000 camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, 05:56 and a thousand she asses. He had also 7 sons and 3 daughters. 06:01 And he called the name of the first Jemima; and the name 06:05 of the second Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch. 06:10 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the 06:14 daughters of Job: and their father gave them an inheritance 06:18 among their brethren. After this lived Job an hundred and 06:22 forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, 06:27 even four generations. So Job died being old and full of days. 06:34 Now we're going to begin the book of Psalms. 06:39 This is the King James Version. Psalms, chapter 1. 06:42 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel 06:46 of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners, 06:50 nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 06:53 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law 06:57 doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree 07:02 planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit 07:07 in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; 07:10 and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: 07:16 but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore 07:20 the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the 07:24 congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of 07:27 the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. 07:31 Psalm 2. Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a 07:39 vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, 07:42 and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, 07:44 and against his anointed saying, Let us break their bands asunder 07:48 and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the 07:53 heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 07:56 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them 08:00 in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy 08:06 hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto 08:11 me Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 08:15 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine 08:19 inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth 08:21 for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; 08:26 thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. 08:29 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges 08:35 of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with 08:39 trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish 08:44 from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. 08:46 Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. 08:52 Psalm 3. A psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. 08:58 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! 09:04 Many are they that rise up against me. 09:07 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him 09:11 in God. Selah. But thou, O Lord art a shield for me; my glory 09:18 and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my 09:22 voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. 09:27 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord 09:33 sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of 09:37 people, that have set themselves against me round about. 09:39 Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten 09:45 all my enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth 09:49 of the ungodly. Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: 09:53 thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah. 09:58 Psalm 4. To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. 10:05 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: 10:09 thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon 10:15 me, and hear my prayer. O ye sons of men, how long will ye 10:20 turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, 10:24 and seek after leasing? Selah But know that the Lord hath set 10:30 apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear 10:34 when I call unto him. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with 10:40 your own heart upon your bed, and be still, Selah. 10:43 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your 10:48 trust in the Lord. There be many that say, Who will shew us 10:53 any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance 10:58 upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the 11:03 time that their corn and their wine increased. I will both lay 11:08 me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me 11:13 dwell in safety. Psalm 5 to the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, 11:20 A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my 11:27 meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my 11:31 God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the 11:36 morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto 11:40 thee, and will look up. For thou art not a God that hath pleasure 11:44 in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. 11:47 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all 11:51 workers of iniquity. Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: 11:56 the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. 11:59 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of 12:03 thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple 12:08 Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine 12:12 enemies; make thy way straight before my face. 12:16 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth: their inward part 12:20 is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; 12:23 they flatter with their tongue. Destroy thou them, O God; 12:27 let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the 12:31 multitude of their transgressions; 12:33 for they have rebelled against thee. But let all those that put 12:39 their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, 12:44 because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name 12:48 be joyful in thee. For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; 12:52 with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield. 12:56 Psalm 6. To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, 13:03 A Psalm of David. O Lord, rebuke me not 13:08 in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 13:11 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; 13:17 for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, 13:23 O Lord, how long? Return, O Lord deliver my soul: oh save me for 13:30 thy mercies' sake. For in death there is no remembrance of thee: 13:34 in the grave who shall give thee thanks? I am weary with my 13:39 groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch 13:44 with my tears. Mine eye is consumed because of grief; 13:49 it waxeth old because of all mine enemies. Depart from me, 13:54 all ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath heard 13:56 the voice of my weeping. The Lord hath heard my supplication; 14:00 The Lord will receive my prayer. Let all mine enemies be ashamed 14:05 and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly. 14:10 Psalm 7 Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the Lord, 14:16 concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. 14:18 O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them 14:25 that persecute me, and deliver me: Lest he tear my soul like a 14:29 lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. 14:33 Thank you for joining with me today to read. Please join me 14:37 next time to read more of the Psalms. Goodbye. |
