00:15 Hello, and welcome to His Word Are Life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for joining with me today 00:21 to read in the book of Proverbs together. 00:23 Let's pray before we start. 00:25 Dear God, Thank You for these words of wisdom that can give us 00:30 understanding, and can guide us in our interactions 00:35 with each other, and with You in a way that 00:38 glorifies Your name. 00:39 Please be with us now as we read, and help us to hear 00:43 and to understand these words. 00:45 We love You and thank You for loving us. 00:47 Amen. 00:48 We're reading in Proverbs 3 beginning with verse 27. 00:53 This is the King James Version. 00:57 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, 01:00 when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. 01:04 Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and come again, 01:08 and tomorrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. 01:12 Devise not evil against thy neighbor, seeing he dwelleth 01:16 securely by thee. 01:18 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done 01:22 thee no harm. 01:23 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. 01:28 For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret 01:33 is with the righteous. 01:35 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: 01:38 but he blesseth the habitation of the just. 01:42 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace 01:47 unto the lowly. 01:48 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the 01:54 promotion of fools. 01:56 Proverbs 4. 01:58 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, 02:03 and attend to know understanding. 02:06 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. 02:11 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved 02:16 in the sight of my mother. 02:17 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain 02:21 my words: keep my commandments, and live. 02:25 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; 02:28 neither decline from the words of my mouth. 02:32 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, 02:37 and she shall keep thee. 02:39 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: 02:44 and with all thy getting get understanding. 02:48 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: 02:51 she shall bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her. 02:55 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: 02:59 a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. 03:02 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy 03:06 life shall be many. 03:08 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee 03:12 in the right paths. 03:13 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; 03:16 and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. 03:18 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; 03:24 for she is thy life. 03:26 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not 03:29 in the way of evil men. 03:30 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. 03:34 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; 03:38 and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. 03:41 For they eat the bread of wickedness, 03:43 and drink the wine of violence. 03:45 But the path of the just is as the shining light, 03:49 that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. 03:53 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not 03:58 at what they stumble. 03:59 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear 04:04 unto my sayings. 04:05 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst 04:09 of thine heart. 04:10 For they are life unto those that find them, 04:13 and health to all their flesh. 04:16 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it 04:21 are the issues of life. 04:24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips 04:28 put far from thee. 04:30 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look 04:34 straight before thee. 04:36 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 04:42 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: 04:46 remove thy foot from evil. 04:49 Proverbs 5. 04:51 This is the King James Version. 04:52 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear 04:58 to my understanding: that thou mayest regard discretion, 05:03 and that thy lips may keep knowledge. 05:06 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, 05:11 and her mouth is smoother than oil: 05:13 but her end is bitter as wormwood, 05:16 sharp as a two-edged sword. 05:18 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. 05:23 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, 05:27 her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them. 05:30 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, 05:33 and depart not from the words of my mouth. 05:36 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh 05:40 the door of her house: lest thou give thine honor unto others, 05:44 and thy years unto the cruel: lest strangers be filled 05:49 with thy wealth; and thy labors be in the house of a stranger; 05:52 and thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body 05:56 are consumed, and say, How have I hated instruction, 05:59 and my heart despised reproof; and have not obeyed the voice 06:04 of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them 06:08 that instructed me! 06:09 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation 06:13 and assembly. 06:14 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters 06:20 out of thine own well. 06:21 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters 06:25 in the streets. 06:26 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. 06:30 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife 06:35 of thy youth. 06:36 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; 06:40 let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished 06:44 always with her love. 06:46 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, 06:50 and embrace the bosom of a stranger? 06:53 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, 06:57 and he pondereth all his goings. 07:01 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, 07:04 and he shall be held with the cords of his sins. 07:07 He shall die without instruction; and in the 07:11 greatness of his folly he shall go astray. 07:16 Proverbs 6. 07:18 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou has stricken 07:24 thy hand with a stranger, thou art snared with the words of 07:27 thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. 07:30 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into 07:34 the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, 07:37 and make sure thy friend. 07:39 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. 07:43 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, 07:46 and as a bird from the hand of the fowler. 07:48 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: 07:52 which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 07:55 provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food 07:57 in the harvest. 07:58 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise 08:02 out of thy sleep? 08:03 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding 08:06 of the hands to sleep: so shall thy poverty come as one that 08:11 traveleth, and thy want as an armed man. 08:14 A naughty person, a wicked man, 08:16 walketh with a froward mouth. 08:19 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, 08:22 he teacheth with his fingers; frowardness is in his heart, 08:26 he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. 08:31 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; 08:36 suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. 08:41 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an 08:46 abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue, 08:51 and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth 08:57 wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 09:02 a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth 09:08 discord among brethren. 09:10 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not 09:15 the law of thy mother: bind them continually upon thine heart, 09:19 and tie them about thy neck. 09:21 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, 09:25 it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, 09:28 it shall talk with thee. 09:30 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; 09:34 and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: 09:38 to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the 09:41 tongue of a strange woman. 09:43 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her 09:47 take thee with her eyelids. 09:48 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of 09:52 bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life. 09:57 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes 10:01 not be burned? 10:02 Can one go upon hot coals and his feet not be burned? 10:06 So he that goeth in to his neighbor's wife; 10:09 whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. 10:13 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul 10:17 when he is hungry; but if he be found, he shall restore 10:21 sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. 10:24 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh 10:28 understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. 10:33 A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach 10:39 shall not be wiped away. 10:40 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare 10:45 in the day of vengeance. 10:46 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, 10:50 though thou givest many gifts. 10:52 Proverbs 7. 10:56 This is the King James Version. 10:57 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. 11:03 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple 11:07 of thine eye. 11:08 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table 11:12 of thine heart. 11:13 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding 11:19 thy kinswoman: that they may keep thee from the strange 11:22 woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words. 11:26 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, 11:30 and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the 11:35 youths, a young man void of understanding, passing through 11:39 the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, 11:43 in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: 11:47 and, behold, there met him a woman with the attire 11:51 of an harlot, and subtle of heart. 11:53 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: 11:59 now is she without, now in the streets, 12:03 and lieth in wait at every corner.) 12:06 So she caught him, and kissed him, 12:09 and with an impudent face said unto him, I have peace offerings 12:13 with me; this day have I paid my vows. 12:15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek 12:18 thy face, and I have found thee. 12:20 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, 12:23 with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. 12:26 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. 12:29 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: 12:33 let us solace ourselves with loves. 12:36 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey: 12:39 he hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home 12:42 at the day appointed. 12:43 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, 12:47 with the flattering of her lips she forced him. 12:51 He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, 12:55 or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; 12:58 till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the 13:02 snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life. 13:06 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, 13:09 and attend to the words of my mouth. 13:12 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray 13:18 in her paths. 13:19 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men 13:25 have been slain by her. 13:27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the 13:32 chambers of death. 13:34 Proverbs 8. 13:36 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding 13:41 put forth her voice? 13:43 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the 13:47 places of the paths. 13:48 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, 13:50 at the coming in at the doors. 13:51 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. 13:56 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an 14:01 understanding heart. 14:02 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; 14:06 and the opening of my lips shall be right things. 14:09 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination 14:14 to my lips. 14:15 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; 14:17 there is nothing froward or perverse in them. 14:20 They are all plain to him that understandeth, 14:23 and right to them that find knowledge. 14:27 Receive my instruction, and not silver; 14:31 and knowledge rather than choice gold. 14:35 Thank you for joining me. 14:36 Please join me again next time. 14:38 Goodbye. |
