00:15 Hello and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we're going to be reading
00:19 together from the book of Isaiah but let's pray before we start.
00:24 Dear heavenly Father, thank you again for these words that you
00:28 have sent to us and preserved for us, and now we bid you to
00:33 teach us as we hear them what you would have us to know today.
00:36 Please be with us now as we read. We love you and thank you
00:40 for loving us. Amen. I'm reading in the book of
00:44 Isaiah chapter 48 beginning with verse 16.
00:48 and this is the King James Version
00:50 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in
00:57 secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am
01:01 I: and now the Lord God, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
01:06 Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel
01:10 I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which
01:15 leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. O that thou
01:19 hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace
01:23 been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of
01:26 the sea: thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring
01:31 of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not
01:35 have been cut off nor destroyed from before me. Go ye forth of
01:39 Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of
01:43 singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the
01:46 earth; say ye, The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
01:50 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts:
01:54 he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave
01:59 the rock also, and the waters gushed out. There is no peace,
02:03 saith the Lord, unto the wicked.
02:05 Continuing in the book of Isaiah chapter 49.
02:09 This is the King James Version
02:11 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far;
02:15 The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of
02:20 my mother hath he made mention of my name. And he hath made my
02:24 mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid
02:29 me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid
02:33 me; and said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom
02:38 I will be glorified. Then I said, I have laboured in vain,
02:43 I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely
02:48 my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.
02:53 And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be
02:57 his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be
03:01 not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the
03:06 Lord, and my God shall be my strength. And he said, It is a
03:09 light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the
03:13 tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will
03:17 also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest
03:21 be my salvation unto the end of the earth. Thus saith the Lord,
03:25 the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man
03:30 despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant
03:35 of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall
03:39 worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy
03:44 One of Israel, and he shall choose thee. Thus saith the
03:48 Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of
03:52 salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and
03:56 give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth,
04:01 to cause to inherit the desolate heritages; that thou mayest say
04:05 to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew
04:10 yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures
04:14 shall be in all high places. They shall not hunger nor
04:18 thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that
04:23 hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of
04:27 water shall he guide them. And I will make all my mountains a
04:32 way, and my highways shall be exalted. Behold, these shall
04:36 come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the
04:40 west; and these from the land of Sinim. Sing, O heavens; and
04:44 be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains:
04:49 for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon
04:54 his afflicted. But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and
04:59 my Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking
05:03 child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her
05:06 womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
05:13 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls
05:19 are continually before me. Thy children shall make haste; thy
05:24 destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of
05:28 thee. Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these
05:32 gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live,
05:35 saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them
05:40 all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride
05:44 doeth. For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the
05:47 land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason
05:51 of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall
05:54 be far away. The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast
05:58 lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too
06:02 strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell. Then shalt
06:06 thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing
06:11 I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and
06:15 removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold,
06:19 I was left alone; these, where had they been? Thus saith the
06:24 Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles,
06:28 and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy
06:32 sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon
06:36 their shoulders. And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and
06:40 their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down
06:42 to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust
06:47 of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord: for they
06:51 shall not be ashamed that wait for me. Shall the prey be taken
06:56 from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? But thus
06:59 saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be
07:02 taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for
07:07 I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will
07:12 save thy children. And I will feed them that oppress thee with
07:16 their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood,
07:19 as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the
07:24 Lord am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the might One of
07:30 Jacob. Continuing now in Isaiah
07:33 chapter 50 and this is the King James Version.
07:35 Thus saith the Lord, Where is the bill of your mother's
07:40 divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors
07:45 is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have
07:49 ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother
07:53 put away. Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I
07:57 called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened
08:02 at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver?
08:06 behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a
08:11 wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and
08:15 dieth for thirst. I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I
08:20 make sackcloth their covering. The Lord God hath given me the
08:23 tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word
08:28 in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning,
08:33 he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. The Lord God
08:37 hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither
08:42 turned away back. I gave my back to the smiters, and my
08:46 cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from
08:51 shame and spitting. For the Lord God will help me; therefore
08:56 shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face
09:01 like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. He is near
09:07 that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand
09:12 together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me. Behold,
09:17 the Lord God will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo,
09:22 they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat
09:26 them up. Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth
09:29 the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath
09:34 no light? let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon
09:39 his God. Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass
09:44 yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire,
09:49 and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of
09:53 mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.
09:57 Continuing with Isaiah chapter 51.
10:00 This is the King James Version
10:02 Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that
10:07 seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and
10:12 to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham
10:16 your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him
10:19 alone, and blessed him and increased him. For the Lord
10:23 shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places;
10:27 and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like
10:31 the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein,
10:35 thanksgiving, and the voice of melody. Hearken unto me, my
10:39 people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall
10:44 proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light
10:49 of the people. My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone
10:54 forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait
10:59 upon me, and on mine arms shall they trust. Lift up your eyes to
11:04 heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall
11:09 vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a
11:12 garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like
11:17 manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my
11:21 righteousness shall not be abolished. Hearken unto me,
11:25 ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my
11:30 law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid
11:35 of their revilings. For the moth shall eat them up like a garment
11:39 and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall
11:44 be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
11:50 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in
11:56 the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou
11:59 not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? Art thou not
12:05 it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep;
12:08 that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to
12:12 pass over? Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall
12:16 return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy
12:21 shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy;
12:28 and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. I, even I, am he that
12:33 comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid
12:37 of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be
12:41 made as grass; And forgettest the Lord thy maker, that hath
12:44 stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the
12:47 earth; and hast feared continually every day because
12:50 of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy?
12:54 and where is the fury of the oppressor? The captive exile
12:58 hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not die in
13:02 the pit, nor that his bread should fail. But I am the Lord
13:06 thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The Lord
13:11 hosts is his name. And I have put my words in thy mouth, and
13:15 I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may
13:18 plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and
13:23 say unto Zion, Thou art my people. Awake, awake, stand up,
13:27 O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup
13:30 of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of
13:34 trembling, and wrung them out. There is none to guide her among
13:39 all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there
13:42 any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath
13:46 brought up. These two things are come unto thee; who shall be
13:50 sorry for thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and
13:55 the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee? Thy sons have
14:00 fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as a wild
14:03 bull in a net: they are full of the fury of the Lord, the rebuke
14:08 of thy God. Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and
14:12 drunken, but not with wine: Thus saith thy Lord the Lord, and thy
14:18 God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken
14:23 of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the
14:28 cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again: But I will
14:31 put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have
14:35 said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast
14:38 laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went
14:42 over.
