00:15 Hello, and welcome to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're going to 00:19 continue reading together in the Book of Isaiah, 00:22 but let's pray before we start. 00:25 Dear, Heavenly Father, 00:26 thank you for this opportunity to come 00:29 and to listen to You speaking to each one of us, 00:32 may we hear these words 00:34 not as a collection of thoughts 00:37 that are broadly and generally applied, 00:40 but maybe hear them personally as You talking to us, 00:44 telling us of Your love and Your will, 00:47 and Your plans for our life. 00:49 Please, send Your Holy Spirit now as we read, 00:51 thank you, amen. 00:53 I'm reading in Isaiah Chapter 57 beginning with verse 3, 00:57 and this is the King James Version. 01:01 "But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, 01:04 the seed of the adulterer and the whore. 01:07 Against whom do ye sport yourselves? 01:09 Against whom make ye a wide mouth, 01:12 and draw out the tongue? 01:14 Are ye not children of transgression, 01:16 a seed of falsehood? 01:17 Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, 01:21 slaying the children in the valleys 01:23 under the clefts of the rocks. 01:24 Among the smooth stones of the stream 01:26 is thy portion, they are thy lot. 01:28 Even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, 01:31 thou hast offered a meat offering? 01:33 Should I receive comfort in these? 01:35 Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed. 01:39 Even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice. 01:42 Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou 01:44 set up thy remembrance for thou hast discovered 01:47 thyself to another than me, and art gone up, 01:50 thou hast enlarged thy bed, 01:52 and made thee a covenant with them, 01:54 thou lovest their bed where thou sawest it. 01:57 And thou wentest to the king with ointment, 01:58 and didst increase thy perfumes, 02:00 and didst send thy messengers far off, 02:03 and didst debase thyself even unto hell. 02:06 Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way, 02:08 yet saidst thou not, There is no hope. 02:12 Thou hast found the life of thine hand, 02:13 therefore thou wast not grieved. 02:16 And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, 02:19 that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, 02:21 nor laid it to thy heart? 02:24 Have not I held my peace, even of old, 02:27 and thou fearest me not? 02:30 I will declare thy righteousness, 02:32 and thy works, for they shall not profit thee. 02:36 When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee, 02:38 but the wind shall carry them all away, 02:40 vanity shall take them. 02:43 But he that putteth his trust in me, 02:45 shall possess the land, and shall inherit 02:48 my holy mountain, and shall say, Cast ye up, 02:51 cast ye up, prepare the way, 02:52 take up the stumbling-block out of the way of my people. 02:56 For thus saith the high and lofty 02:58 One that inhabited eternity, whose name is Holy, 03:02 I dwell in the high and holy place, 03:05 with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, 03:11 to revive the spirit of the humble, 03:13 and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. 03:16 For I will not contend for ever, 03:19 neither will I be always wroth for the spirit 03:23 should fail before me, and the souls which I have made. 03:26 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, 03:29 and smote him. I hid me, and was wroth, 03:31 and he went on forwardly in the way of his heart. 03:34 I have seen his ways, and will heal him. 03:37 I will lead him also, and restore comforts 03:40 unto him and to his mourners. 03:43 I create the fruit of the lips. 03:45 Peace, peace to hi that is far off, 03:48 and to him that is near, saith the Lord, 03:51 and I will heal him. 03:54 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, 03:56 when it cannot rest, 03:58 whose waters cast up mire and dirt. 04:01 There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked." 04:06 Continuing with Isaiah Chapter 58 04:09 and this is the King James Version. 04:12 "Cry aloud, spare not, 04:14 lift up thy voice like a trumpet, 04:17 and show my people their transgression, 04:19 and the house of Jacob their sins. 04:22 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, 04:25 as a nation that did righteousness, 04:27 and forsook not the ordinance of their God. 04:29 They ask of me the ordinances of justice, 04:32 they take delight in approaching to God. 04:36 Wherefore have we fasted, say they, 04:38 and thou seest not? 04:39 Wherefore have we afflicted our soul, 04:41 and thou takest no knowledge? 04:44 Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, 04:46 and exact all your labors. 04:48 Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, 04:52 and to smite with the fist of wickedness. 04:55 Ye shall not fast as ye do this day, 04:58 to make your voice to be heard on high. 05:01 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? 05:03 A day for a man to afflict his soul? 05:06 Is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, 05:09 and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? 05:12 Wilt thou call this a fast and acceptable day to the Lord? 05:18 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? 05:22 To loose the bands of wickedness, 05:25 to undo the heavy burdens, 05:27 and to let the oppressed go free, 05:29 and that ye break every yoke? 05:32 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, 05:35 and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? 05:39 When thou seest the naked, 05:40 that thou cover Him, and that thou hide 05:43 not thyself from thine own flesh? 05:46 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, 05:50 and thine health shall spring forth speedily. 05:52 And thy righteousness shall go before thee. 05:55 The glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward. 06:00 Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer, 06:03 thou shalt cry, and he shall say, 06:05 "Here I am." If thou take away 06:08 from the midst of thee the yoke, 06:10 the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity. 06:14 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, 06:17 and satisfy the afflicted soul, 06:19 then shall thy light rise in obscurity, 06:21 and thy darkness be as the noonday. 06:24 And the Lord shall guide thee continually, 06:27 and satisfy thy soul in drought, 06:30 and make fat thy bones. 06:32 And thou shalt be like a watered garden, 06:34 and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. 06:39 And they that shall be of thee 06:40 shall build the old waste places. 06:43 Thou shalt raise up the foundations 06:44 of many generations, and thou shalt be called, 06:46 The repairer of the breach, 06:49 The restorer of paths to dwell in. 06:52 If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, 06:55 from doing thy pleasure on my holy day. 06:59 And call the Sabbath a delight, 07:01 the holy of the Lord, honorable, 07:05 and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, 07:08 nor finding thine own pleasure, 07:09 nor speaking thine own words. 07:12 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord, 07:15 and I will cause thee to ride upon 07:17 the high places of the earth, and feed thee 07:20 with the heritage of Jacob thy father, 07:23 the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it." 07:27 Continuing to read in Isaiah Chapter 59 07:30 and this is the King James Version. 07:33 "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, 07:36 that it cannot save, neither his ear heavy, 07:40 that it cannot hear. 07:41 But your iniquities have separated 07:43 between you and your God, and your sins have hid, 07:47 his face from you, that he will not hear. 07:51 For your hands are defiled with blood, 07:52 and your fingers with iniquity, 07:54 your lips have spoken lies, 07:57 your tongue hath muttered perverseness. 08:00 None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth. 08:06 They trust in vanity, and speak lies, 08:09 they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. 08:13 They hatch cockatrice' eggs, 08:15 and weave the spider's web. 08:18 He that eateth of their eggs dieth, 08:20 and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. 08:24 Their webs shall not become garments, 08:27 neither shall they cover themselves with their works. 08:29 Their works are works of iniquity, 08:31 and the act of violence is in their hands. 08:35 Their feet run to evil, 08:36 and they make haste to shed innocent blood. 08:39 Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity, 08:41 wasting and destruction are in their paths. 08:45 The way of peace they know not, 08:46 and there is no judgment in their goings. 08:49 They have made them crooked paths. 08:51 Whosoever goeth there in shall not know peace. 08:55 Therefore is judgment far from us, 08:57 neither doth justice overtake us. 09:00 We wait for light, but behold obscurity, 09:03 for brightness, but we walk in darkness. 09:07 We grope for the wall like the blind, 09:10 and we grope as if we had no eyes. 09:12 We stumble at noonday as in the night, 09:15 we are in desolate places as dead men. 09:18 We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves. 09:21 We look for judgment, but there is none, 09:24 for salvation, but it is far off from us. 09:29 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, 09:32 and our sins testify against us. 09:35 For our transgressions are with us, 09:38 and as for our iniquities, we know them. 09:41 In transgressing and lying against the Lord, 09:44 and departing away from our God, 09:47 speaking oppression and revolt, 09:50 conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. 09:54 And judgment is turned away backward, 09:56 and justice standeth afar off. 09:59 For truth is fallen in the street, 10:01 and equity cannot enter. 10:04 Yea, truth faileth, and he that departeth 10:07 from evil maketh himself a prey, 10:09 and the Lord saw it, and it displeased him 10:13 and there was no judgment. 10:16 And he saw that there was no man, 10:17 and wondered that there was no intercessor. 10:21 Therefore his arm brought salvation unto him, 10:23 and his righteousness, it sustained him. 10:27 For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, 10:29 and an helmet of salvation upon his head, 10:32 and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, 10:34 and was clad with zeal as a cloke. 10:38 According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, 10:42 fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies, 10:47 to the islands he will repay recompence. 10:50 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, 10:53 and his glory from the rising of the sun. 10:57 When the enemy shall come in 10:58 like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord 11:00 shall lift up a standard against him. 11:02 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, 11:05 and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, 11:08 saith the Lord. As for me, 11:11 this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord. 11:14 My spirit that is upon thee, 11:16 and my words which I have put in thy mouth, 11:19 shall not depart out of thy mouth, 11:22 nor out of the mouth of thy seed, 11:24 nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, 11:27 saith the Lord, from henceforth and for ever." 11:32 Continuing in Isaiah Chapter 60 11:34 and this is the King James Version. 11:37 "Arise, shine, for thy light is come, 11:42 and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. 11:45 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, 11:48 and gross darkness the people. 11:50 But the Lord shall arise upon thee, 11:53 and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 11:56 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, 11:59 and kings to the brightness of thy rising. 12:02 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see. 12:06 All they gather themselves together, 12:08 they come to thee, thy sons shall come from far, 12:12 and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. 12:15 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, 12:17 and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged, 12:20 because the abundance of the sea 12:21 shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles 12:25 shall come unto thee. 12:27 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, 12:29 the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah, 12:32 all they from Sheba shall come. 12:34 They shall bring gold and incense, 12:35 and they shall show forth the praises of the Lord. 12:38 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered 12:40 together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth 12:43 shall minister unto thee. 12:44 They shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, 12:47 and I will glorify the house of my glory. 12:50 Who are these that fly as a cloud, 12:52 and as the doves to their windows? 12:54 Surely the isles shall wait for me, 12:57 and the ships of Tarshish first, 12:58 to bring thy sons from far, 13:01 their silver and their gold with them, 13:02 unto the name of the Lord thy God, 13:04 and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee. 13:09 And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, 13:12 and their kings shall minister unto thee. 13:15 For in my wrath I smote thee, 13:17 but in my favor have I had mercy on thee. 13:21 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually, 13:24 they shall not be shut day nor night, 13:26 that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, 13:30 and that their kings may be brought. 13:32 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve 13:34 thee shall perish, 13:36 yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted. 13:39 The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, 13:42 the fir tree, the pine tree, 13:44 and the box together, to beautify the place 13:47 of my sanctuary, and I will make the place 13:50 of my feet glorious. 13:52 Thy sons also of them that afflicted thee 13:55 shall come bending unto thee, 13:57 and all they that despised thee shall bow 14:00 themselves down at the soles of thy feet. 14:03 And they shall call thee, The city of the Lord, 14:07 The Zion of the Holy One of Israel. 14:10 Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, 14:12 so that no man went through thee, 14:14 I will make thee an eternal excellency, 14:17 a joy of many generations. 14:20 Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, 14:22 and shalt suck the breast of kings. 14:24 And thou shalt know that I the Lord am thy Savior 14:28 and thy Redeemer, the mighty one of Jacob." 14:33 Thank you for joining me today, and please join me next time 14:36 to read the Book of God together.
