00:16 Hello and welcome back to "His words are life."
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today 00:20 we're going to read together in the Book of Jeremiah. 00:22 But before we start let's pray. 00:24 Dear heavenly Father, thank You again 00:27 for time apart to listen to Your voice. 00:30 In the words that You've spoken all these thousands of years ago 00:34 have power in our lives today. 00:37 Please send the Holy Spirit to bring understanding 00:39 to our heart as we hear now Your words to us. 00:43 Pray in the name of Jesus. Thank You for loving us, amen. 00:49 Reading in Jeremiah Chapter 19, picking up with verse 10. 00:52 This is the King James Version. 00:56 Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men 00:59 that go with thee, and shalt say unto them, 01:01 thus saith the Lord of hosts. 01:03 Even so will I break this people and this city, 01:07 as one breaketh a potter's vessel, 01:09 that cannot be made whole again, 01:11 and they shall bury them in Tophet, 01:13 till there be no place to bury. 01:16 Thus will I do unto this place, saith the Lord, 01:18 and to the inhabitants thereof, 01:19 and even make this city as Tophet. 01:23 And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of 01:25 the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, 01:28 because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have 01:31 burned incense unto all the host of heaven, 01:34 and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods. 01:38 Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the Lord had sent him 01:41 to prophesy, and he stood in the court of the Lord's house, 01:44 and said to all the people, thus saith the Lord of hosts, 01:48 the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city 01:51 and upon all her towns all the evil that I have 01:55 pronounced against it, because they have hardened 01:59 their necks, that they might not hear my words. 02:04 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 20 02:06 and this is the King James Version. 02:09 Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, 02:12 who was also chief governor in the house of the Lord, 02:15 heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. 02:19 Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, 02:21 and put him in the stocks that were in 02:23 the high gate of Benjamin, 02:24 which was by the house of the Lord. 02:26 And it came to pass on the morrow, 02:29 that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. 02:33 Then said Jeremiah unto him, the Lord hath not called 02:36 thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib. 02:40 For thus saith the Lord, Behold, 02:42 I will make thee a terror to thyself, 02:45 and to all thy friends and they shall fall by the sword 02:48 of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it, 02:52 and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, 02:56 and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, 02:59 and shall slay them with the sword. 03:02 Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, 03:06 and all the labors thereof, and all the precious things thereof, 03:10 and all the treasures of the kings of Judah 03:13 will I give into the hand of their enemies, 03:15 which shall spoil them, and take them, 03:18 and carry them to Babylon. 03:21 And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go 03:24 into captivity and thou shalt come to Babylon, 03:27 and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, 03:31 and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies. 03:37 O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived, 03:40 thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed, 03:43 I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me. 03:47 For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil, 03:51 because the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me, 03:53 and a derision, daily. 03:55 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, 03:57 nor speak any more in his name. 03:58 But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire 04:02 shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, 04:04 and I could not stay. 04:06 For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. 04:11 Report, say they, and we will report it. 04:13 All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, 04:17 Peradventure he will be enticed, 04:19 and we shall prevail against him, 04:20 and we shall take our revenge on him. 04:23 But the Lord is with me as a mighty terrible one, 04:28 therefore my persecutors shall stumble, 04:31 and they shall not prevail, they shall be greatly ashamed, 04:34 for they shall not prosper, their everlasting confusion 04:39 shall never be forgotten. 04:42 But, O Lord of hosts, that triest the righteous, 04:45 and seest the reins and the heart, 04:48 let me see thy vengeance on them, 04:50 for unto thee have I opened my cause. 04:54 Sing unto the Lord, praise ye the Lord, 04:57 for he hath delivered the soul of the poor 05:00 from the hand of evildoers. 05:03 Cursed be the day wherein I was born, 05:07 let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed. 05:10 Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, 05:14 a man child is born unto thee, making him very glad. 05:18 And let that man be as the cities 05:20 which the lord overthrew, and repented not, 05:22 and let him hear the cry in the morning, 05:23 and the shouting at noontide, because he slew me not 05:26 from the womb, or that my mother might have 05:28 been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me. 05:32 Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see 05:34 labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame? 05:40 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 21. 05:43 The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, 05:46 when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashur the son of Melchiah, 05:52 and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying, 05:56 enquire, I pray thee, of the Lord for us, 05:59 for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us, 06:03 if so be that the Lord will deal with us according to all his 06:07 wondrous works, that he may go up from us. 06:11 Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah. 06:16 Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, 06:18 Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war 06:21 that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against 06:23 the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, 06:26 which besiege you without the walls, 06:28 and I will assemble them into the midst of this city. 06:31 And I myself will fight against you with an 06:34 outstretched hand and with a strong arm, 06:36 even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath. 06:40 And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, 06:42 both man and beast, they shall die of a great pestilence. 06:47 And afterward, saith the Lord, 06:50 I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, 06:52 and his servants, and the people, 06:54 and such as are left in this city 06:56 from the pestilence, from the sword, 06:57 from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar 07:00 king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, 07:03 and into the hand of those that seek their life 07:05 and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword, 07:07 he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy. 07:13 And unto this people thou shalt say, 07:15 thus saith the Lord, Behold, 07:19 I set before you the way of life and the way of death. 07:23 He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, 07:26 and by the famine, and by the pestilence 07:29 but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans 07:32 that besiege you, he shall live, 07:35 and his life shall be unto him for a prey. 07:39 For I have set my face against this city for evil, 07:42 and not for good, saith the Lord, 07:45 it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, 07:48 and he shall burn it with fire. 07:51 And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, 07:54 Hear ye the word of the Lord. 07:56 O house of David, thus saith the Lord, 07:59 Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is spoiled 08:02 out of the hand of the oppressor, 08:04 lest my fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it 08:09 because of the evil of your doings. 08:12 Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, 08:15 and rock of the plain, saith the Lord, 08:18 which say, who shall come down against us? 08:21 Or who shall enter into our habitations? 08:24 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, 08:27 saith the Lord and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, 08:32 and it shall devour all things round about it. 08:36 Continuing with Jeremiah Chapter 22 08:39 and this is the King James Version. 08:42 Thus saith the LORD, Go down to the house of the king of Judah, 08:46 and speak there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, 08:51 O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, 08:56 and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates. 09:01 Thus saith the Lord, execute ye 09:04 judgment and righteousness, 09:07 and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, 09:10 and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, 09:14 the fatherless, nor the widow, 09:17 neither shed innocent blood in this place. 09:20 For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in 09:25 by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of 09:29 David, riding in chariots and on horses, 09:31 he, and his servants, and his people. 09:35 But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, 09:40 saith the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation. 09:45 For thus saith the Lord unto the king's house of Judah, 09:47 thou art Gilead unto me, and the head of Lebanon, 09:51 yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, 09:53 and cities which are not inhabited. 09:56 And I will prepare destroyers against thee, 09:58 every one with his weapons, and they shall cut down 10:02 thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire. 10:05 And many nations shall pass by this city, 10:08 and they shall say every man to his neighbor, 10:10 wherefore hath the Lord done thus unto this great city? 10:14 Then they shall answer, because they have forsaken 10:18 the covenant of the Lord their God, 10:20 and worshipped other gods, and served them. 10:25 Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him, 10:29 but weep sore for him that goeth away, 10:32 for he shall return no more, nor see his native country. 10:36 For thus saith the Lord touching Shallum the son of Josiah 10:39 king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, 10:42 which went forth out of this place, 10:45 He shall not return thither any more, 10:47 but he shall die in the place whither they have led him 10:50 captive, and shall see this land no more. 10:54 Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, 10:57 and his chambers by wrong, that useth his neighbor's 11:01 service without wages, and giveth him not for his work. 11:07 That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, 11:11 and cutteth him out windows, and it is cieled with cedar, 11:14 and painted with vermilion. 11:16 Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? 11:21 Did not thy father eat and drink, 11:23 and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? 11:28 He judged the cause of the poor and needy, 11:30 then it was well with him, was not this to know me? 11:34 Saith the Lord. 11:35 But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness 11:40 and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, 11:44 and for violence, to do it. 11:46 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning Jehoiakim 11:49 the son of Josiah king of Judah, They shall not lament for him, 11:53 saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! 11:57 They shall not lament for him, saying, 11:59 Ah lord! or, Ah his glory! 12:03 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, 12:07 drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem. 12:11 Go up to Lebanon, and cry, and lift up thy voice in Bashan, 12:14 and cry from the passages, for all thy lovers are destroyed. 12:19 I spake unto thee in thy prosperity, 12:22 but thou saidst, I will not hear. 12:25 This hath been thy manner from thy youth, 12:29 that thou obeyedst not my voice. 12:31 The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, 12:34 and thy lovers shall go into captivity, 12:37 surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded 12:40 for all thy wickedness. 12:43 O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, 12:47 how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, 12:52 the pain as of a woman in travail! 12:55 As I live, saith the Lord, though Coniah 12:58 the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah 13:00 were the signet upon my right hand, 13:03 yet would I pluck thee thence, and I will give thee into 13:07 the hand of them that seek thy life, 13:08 and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, 13:11 even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, 13:15 and into the hand of the Chaldeans. 13:17 And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, 13:19 into another country, where ye were not born, 13:22 and there shall ye die. 13:25 But to the land whereunto they desire to return, 13:28 thither shall they not return. 13:30 Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? 13:34 Is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? 13:36 wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, 13:38 and are cast into a land which they know not? 13:42 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord. 13:46 Thus saith the Lord, write ye this man childless, 13:50 a man that shall not prosper in his days, 13:54 for no man of his seed shall prosper, 13:57 sitting upon the throne of David, 13:58 and ruling any more in Judah. 14:01 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 23. 14:05 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter 14:09 the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord. 14:12 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel 14:14 against the pastors that feed my people. 14:17 Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, 14:19 and have not visited them, behold, 14:22 I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord. 14:26 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries 14:30 whither I have driven them, and will bring them again 14:33 to their folds, and they shall be fruitful and increase. 14:38 Good bye. |
