00:15 Hello and welcome back to "His Words are Life."
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we are 00:20 reading in the book of Jeremiah. 00:21 But let's pray together before we start. 00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, please come 00:27 and still our hearts right now 00:30 and take away the noise of all that might be 00:33 going on in our lives at this moment. 00:37 And let us hear from the prince of peace, 00:40 the words that you have for us today. 00:43 Thank you for loving us. We love you so much, Amen. 00:49 We're reading in the book of Jeremiah Chapter 23, 00:53 beginning in verse 4 and this is the King James Version. 00:57 "And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them, 01:01 and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, 01:06 neither shall they be lacking saith the Lord. 01:09 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, 01:12 that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, 01:16 and a King shall reign and prosper, 01:18 and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. 01:23 In his days Judah shall be saved, 01:24 and Israel shall dwell safely, 01:27 and this is his name whereby he shall be called, 01:31 the Lord our righteousness. 01:34 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, 01:37 that they shall no more say, The Lord liveth, 01:40 which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, 01:43 But, The Lord liveth, which brought up 01:46 and which led the seed of the house of Israel 01:49 out of the north country, and from all countries 01:51 whither I had driven them, 01:54 and they shall dwell in their own land. 01:57 Mine heart within me is broken 01:59 because of the prophets, all my bones shake, 02:01 I am like a drunken man, 02:02 and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the Lord, 02:06 and because of the words of his holiness. 02:10 For the land is full of adulterers, 02:12 for because of swearing the land mourneth, 02:15 the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, 02:19 and their course is evil, and their force is not right. 02:25 For both prophet and priest are profane, 02:28 yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, 02:32 saith the Lord. 02:33 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery 02:37 ways in the darkness, they shall be driven on, 02:40 and fall therein, for I will bring evil upon them, 02:44 even the year of their visitation, saith the Lord. 02:47 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria, 02:51 they prophesied in Baal, 02:53 and caused my people Israel to err. 02:56 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem 02:59 an horrible thing, they commit adultery, and walk in lies, 03:04 they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, 03:07 that none doth return from his wickedness, 03:11 they are all of them unto me as Sodom, 03:13 and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah. 03:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts 03:18 concerning the prophets, Behold, I will feed them 03:21 with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall, 03:26 for from the prophets of Jerusalem 03:28 is profaneness gone forth into all the land. 03:33 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, 03:35 hearken not unto the words of the prophets 03:38 that prophesy unto you, they make you vain, 03:42 they speak a vision of their own heart, 03:45 and not out of the mouth of the Lord. 03:48 They say still unto them that despise me, 03:52 the Lord hath said, ye shall have peace, 03:54 and they say unto every one that walketh 03:56 after the imagination of his own heart, 03:59 no evil shall come upon you. 04:02 For who hath stood in the counsel of the Lord, 04:04 and hath perceived and heard his word? 04:06 who hath marked his word, and heard it? 04:10 Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, 04:13 even a grievous whirlwind, 04:15 it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked. 04:18 The anger of the Lord shall not return, 04:19 until he have executed, and till he have performed 04:22 the thoughts of his heart, 04:23 in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly. 04:27 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran, 04:30 I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. 04:34 But if they had stood in my counsel, 04:36 and had caused my people to hear my words, 04:39 then they should have turned them from their evil way, 04:42 and from the evil of their doings. 04:44 Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, 04:49 and not a God afar off? 04:51 Can any hide himself in secret places 04:54 that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. 04:56 Do not I fill heaven and earth? 04:59 saith the Lord. 05:01 I have heard what the prophets said, 05:02 that prophesy lies in my name, 05:05 saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. 05:08 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets 05:11 that prophesy lies? 05:12 Yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart, 05:16 Which think to cause my people to forget 05:18 my name by their dreams 05:20 which they tell every man to his neighbor, 05:22 as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. 05:25 The prophet that hath a dream, 05:27 let him tell a dream, and he that hath my word, 05:30 let him speak my word faithfully. 05:33 What is the chaff to the wheat? 05:34 saith the Lord. 05:36 Is not my word like as a fire? 05:39 Saith the Lord, and like a hammer 05:42 that breaketh the rock in pieces? 05:44 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, 05:49 saith the Lord, that steal my words 05:53 everyone from his neighbor. 05:55 Behold, I am against the prophets, 05:57 saith the Lord, that use their tongues, 05:59 and say, He saith. 06:02 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, 06:06 saith the Lord, and do tell them, 06:09 and cause my people to err by their lies, 06:13 and by their lightness, 06:16 yet I sent them not, nor commanded them, 06:20 therefore they shall not profit this people at all, 06:23 saith the Lord. 06:25 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, 06:27 shall ask thee, saying, 06:28 what is the burden of the Lord? 06:30 Thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? 06:33 I will even forsake you, saith the Lord. 06:37 And as for the prophet, and the priest, 06:40 and the people, that shall say, 06:42 The burden of the Lord, 06:43 I will even punish that man and his house. 06:47 Thus shall ye say everyone to his neighbor, 06:49 and everyone to his brother, What hath the Lord answered? 06:51 And, what hath the Lord spoken? 06:53 And the burden of the Lord shall ye mention no more, 06:56 for every man's word shall be his burden, 06:59 for ye have perverted the words of the living God, 07:02 of the Lord of hosts our God. 07:05 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, 07:07 what hath the Lord answered thee? 07:09 And, what hath the Lord spoken? 07:12 But since ye say, The burden of the Lord, 07:14 therefore thus saith the Lord, 07:15 because ye say this word, The burden of the Lord, 07:19 and I have sent unto you, saying, 07:20 Ye shall not say, The burden of the Lord, 07:23 Therefore, behold, I, 07:25 even I, will utterly forget you, 07:29 and I will forsake you, and the city 07:31 that I gave you and your fathers, 07:33 and cast you out of my presence 07:36 and I will bring an everlasting 07:37 reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, 07:41 which shall not be forgotten." 07:44 Continuing in Jeremiah chapter 24 07:47 and this is the King James Version. 07:50 "The Lord showed me, and, behold, 07:53 two baskets of figs were set 07:55 before the temple of the Lord, 07:57 after that Nebuchadrezzar King of Babylon 08:00 had carried away captive 08:02 Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim King of Judah, 08:05 and the princes of Judah, 08:06 with the carpenters and smiths from Jerusalem, 08:10 and had brought them to Babylon. 08:12 One basket had very good figs, 08:15 even like the figs that are first ripe, 08:18 and the other basket had very naughty figs, 08:20 which could not be eaten, they were so bad. 08:23 Then said the Lord unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? 08:27 And I said, figs, the good figs, very good, 08:32 and the evil, very evil, 08:34 that cannot be eaten, they are so evil. 08:36 Again the word of the Lord came unto me, 08:38 saying, thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, 08:41 like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them 08:46 that are carried away captive of Judah, 08:48 whom I have sent out of this place 08:50 into the land of the Chaldeans for their good. 08:53 For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, 08:56 and I will bring them again to this land, 08:59 and I will build them, and not pull them down, 09:01 and I will plant them, and not pluck them up. 09:04 And I will give them an heart to know me, 09:08 that I am the Lord, and they shall be my people, 09:12 and I will be their God, for they shall return unto me 09:16 with their whole heart. 09:19 And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, 09:23 they are so evil, surely thus saith the Lord, 09:27 So will I give Zedekiah the King of Judah, 09:30 and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, 09:33 that remain in this land, 09:34 and them that dwell in the land of Egypt 09:36 and I will deliver them to be removed 09:38 into all the kingdoms of the earth for their hurt, 09:41 to be a reproach and a proverb, 09:44 a taunt and a curse, in all places 09:46 whither I shall drive them. 09:48 And I will send the sword, the famine, 09:50 and the pestilence, among them, 09:52 till they be consumed from off the land 09:54 that I gave unto them and to their fathers." 09:59 Continuing to read in Jeremiah Chapter 25 10:02 and this is the King James Version. 10:05 "The word that came to Jeremiah 10:07 concerning all the people of Judah 10:09 in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah King of Judah, 10:13 that was the first year 10:15 of Nebuchadrezzar King of Babylon, 10:18 The which Jeremiah the prophet spake 10:20 unto all the people of Judah, 10:22 and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, 10:25 saying, from the thirteenth year 10:28 of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, 10:30 even unto this day, that is the three 10:34 and twentieth year, 10:36 the word of the Lord hath come unto me, 10:37 and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking, 10:41 but ye have not hearkened. 10:43 And the Lord hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, 10:47 rising early and sending them, but ye have not hearkened, 10:51 nor inclined your ear to hear. 10:55 They said, turn ye again now everyone from his evil way, 10:58 and from the evil of your doings, 10:59 and dwell in the land that the Lord hath given unto you 11:02 and to your fathers forever and ever and go not after 11:05 other gods to serve them, and to worship them, 11:09 provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands, 11:13 and I will do you no hurt. 11:15 Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the Lord, 11:18 that ye might provoke me to anger 11:20 with the works of your hands to your own hurt. 11:24 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, 11:26 Because ye have not heard my words, 11:30 Behold, I will send 11:31 and take all the families of the north, saith the Lord, 11:34 and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, 11:36 my servant, and will bring them against this land, 11:39 and against the inhabitants thereof, 11:41 and against all these nations round about, 11:44 and will utterly destroy them, 11:45 and make them an astonishment, 11:47 and an hissing, and perpetual desolations. 11:51 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, 11:54 and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, 11:57 and the voice of the bride, 11:59 and the sound of the millstones, 12:00 and the light of the candle. 12:02 And this whole land shall be a desolation, 12:05 and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve 12:09 the king of Babylon seventy years. 12:12 And it shall come to pass, 12:13 when seventy years are accomplished, 12:15 that I will punish the king of Babylon, 12:17 and that nation, saith the Lord, 12:19 for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, 12:21 and will make it perpetual desolations. 12:24 And I will bring upon that land all my words 12:26 which I have pronounced against it, 12:28 even all that is written in this book, 12:31 which Jeremiah hath prophesied 12:33 against all the nations. For many nations 12:36 and great kings shall serve themselves of them also, 12:40 and I will recompense them according to their deeds, 12:42 and according to the works of their own hands. 12:45 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto me, 12:48 Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, 12:51 and cause all the nations, 12:53 to whom I send thee, to drink it. 12:56 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, 13:00 because of the sword that I will send among them. 13:03 Then took I the cup at the Lord's hand, 13:05 and made all the nations to drink, 13:06 unto whom the Lord had sent me to wit, 13:09 Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, 13:11 and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, 13:13 to make them a desolation, an astonishment, 13:16 an hissing, and a curse, as it is this day, 13:19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, 13:21 and his princes, and all his people, 13:23 And all the mingled people, 13:25 and all the kings of the land of Uz, 13:27 and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, 13:29 and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, 13:32 and the remnant of Ashdod, Edom, and Moab, 13:35 and the children of Ammon, and all the kings of Tyrus, 13:37 and all the kings of Zidon, 13:39 and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, 13:42 Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, 13:44 and all that are in the utmost corners, 13:46 and all the kings of Arabia, 13:48 and all the kings of the mingled 13:49 people that dwell in the desert, 13:51 and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, 13:54 and all the kings of the Medes, and all the kings of the north, 13:56 far and near, one with another, 13:58 and all the kingdoms of the world, 14:00 which are upon the face of the earth, 14:02 and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. 14:05 Therefore thou shalt say unto them, 14:07 thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, 14:10 Drink ye, and be drunken, 14:12 and spue, and fall, and rise no more, 14:15 because of the sword which I will send among you. 14:18 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup 14:20 at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, 14:23 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Ye shall certainly drink. 14:26 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city 14:29 which is called by my name, 14:31 and should ye be utterly unpunished? 14:33 Ye shall not be unpunished, for I will call for a sword upon 14:38 all the inhabitants of the earth, 14:40 saith the Lord of hosts." 14:43 Please join me again next time 14:44 to read the word of God together, good-bye. |
