00:14 Hello, and welcome to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today 00:18 we'll continue to read together 00:20 in the Book of Jeremiah. 00:21 But first, let's pray before we start. 00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this opportunity 00:26 to sit and listen to these words 00:29 from so many thousands of years ago, 00:32 words of Your redemption of Your people 00:35 and thank you for redeeming us. 00:37 Please be with us now as we read. 00:39 We love You so much. 00:41 Thank you for loving us, amen. 00:43 We are reading of the redemption of Israel 00:45 according to the prophet Jeremiah, 00:48 picking up in Jeremiah Chapter 31 with verse 12 00:51 and this is the King James Version. 00:54 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, 00:58 and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, 01:01 for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young 01:04 of the flock and of the herd, and their soul shall be 01:07 as a watered garden, and they shall 01:09 not sorrow any more at all. 01:13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, 01:16 both young men and old together, for I will turn 01:20 their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, 01:24 and make them rejoice from their sorrow. 01:27 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, 01:31 and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, 01:34 saith the Lord. 01:37 Thus saith the Lord, A voice was heard in Ramah, 01:41 lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rahel weeping 01:44 for her children refused to be comforted for her children, 01:49 because they were not. 01:52 Thus saith the Lord, Refrain thy voice from weeping, 01:55 and thine eyes from tears, for thy work shall be 01:59 rewarded, saith the Lord, and they shall come 02:03 again from the land of the enemy. 02:06 And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, 02:09 that thy children shall come again to their own border. 02:14 I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, 02:18 Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, 02:21 as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke, turn thou me, 02:25 and I shall be turned, for thou art the Lord my God. 02:30 Surely after that I was turned, I repented, 02:33 and after that I was instructed, 02:35 I smote upon my thigh, I was ashamed, yea, 02:38 even confounded, because I did bear 02:40 the reproach of my youth. 02:43 Is Ephraim my dear son? 02:45 Is he a pleasant child? 02:47 For since I spake against him, 02:48 I do earnestly remember him still, 02:51 therefore my bowels are troubled for him, 02:54 I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the Lord. 02:58 Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps, 03:03 set thine heart toward the highway, 03:05 even the way which thou wentest, turn again, 03:07 O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities. 03:12 How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? 03:15 For the Lord hath created a new thing in the earth, 03:18 A woman shall compass a man. 03:20 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, 03:23 As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah 03:26 and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring 03:29 again their captivity, The Lord bless thee, 03:32 O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness. 03:36 And there shall dwell in Judah itself, 03:39 and in all the cities thereof together, husbandmen, 03:43 and they that go forth with flocks. 03:44 For I have satiated the weary soul, 03:47 and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. 03:50 Upon this I awaked, and beheld, and my sleep 03:53 was sweet unto me. 03:56 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, 03:58 that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah 04:02 with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast. 04:05 And it shall come to pass, that like 04:08 as I have watched over them, to pluck up, 04:10 and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, 04:13 and to afflict, so will I watch over them, to build, 04:17 and to plant, saith the Lord. 04:20 In those days, they shall say no more, 04:23 The fathers have eaten a sour grape, 04:25 and the children's teeth are set on edge. 04:28 But every one shall die for his own iniquity, 04:31 every man that eateth the sour grape, 04:33 his teeth shall be set on edge. 04:36 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, 04:38 that I will make a new covenant 04:40 with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah, 04:43 Not according to the covenant that I made with 04:46 their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand 04:49 to bring them out of the land of Egypt, 04:52 which my covenant they brake, 04:54 although I was a husband unto them, saith the Lord, 04:57 But this shall be the covenant that I will 04:59 make with the house of Israel, After those days, 05:02 saith the Lord, I will put my law 05:06 in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts, 05:10 and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 05:14 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, 05:17 and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, 05:20 for they shall all know me, from the least of them 05:24 unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord, 05:26 for I will forgive their iniquity, 05:29 and I will remember their sin no more. 05:33 Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun 05:36 for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon 05:40 and of the stars for a light by night, 05:43 which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar, 05:46 The Lord of hosts is his name, If those ordinances depart 05:51 from before me, saith the Lord, 05:54 then the seed of Israel also shall cease 05:57 from being a nation before me for ever. 06:00 Thus saith the Lord, If heaven above can be measured, 06:03 and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, 06:06 I will also cast off all the seed of Israel 06:08 for all that they have done, saith the Lord. 06:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the city 06:14 shall be built to the Lord from the tower of Hananeel 06:18 unto the gate of the corner. 06:20 And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it 06:24 upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath. 06:28 And the whole valley of the dead bodies, 06:30 and of the ashes, and all the fields 06:33 unto the brook of Kidron, 06:34 unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, 06:37 shall be holy unto the Lord, it shall not be plucked up, 06:41 nor thrown down any more for ever. 06:46 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 32 06:49 and this is the King James Version. 06:52 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord 06:55 in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, 06:58 which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar. 07:01 For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem, 07:03 and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up 07:05 in the court of the prison, 07:06 which was in the king of Judah's house. 07:09 For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, 07:12 Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord, 07:16 Behold, I will give this city into the hand 07:19 of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it, 07:21 And Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape 07:24 out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely 07:26 be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, 07:28 and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, 07:30 and his eyes shall behold his eyes, And he shall lead 07:33 Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall 07:35 he be until I visit him, saith the Lord, 07:37 though ye fight with the Chaldeans, 07:39 ye shall not prosper. 07:42 And Jeremiah said, The word of the Lord came unto me, 07:45 saying, Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine 07:50 uncle shall come unto thee, saying, 07:52 Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth, 07:55 for the right of redemption is thine to buy it. 08:00 So Hanameel mine uncle's son 08:02 came to me in the court of the prison 08:05 according to the word of the Lord, and said unto me, 08:08 Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, 08:11 which is in the country of Benjamin, 08:13 for the right of inheritance is thine, 08:15 and the redemption is thine, buy it for thyself. 08:19 And then I knew that this was the word of the Lord. 08:22 And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, 08:24 that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, 08:27 even seventeen shekels of silver. 08:30 And I subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, 08:32 and took witnesses, and weighed him 08:34 the money in the balances. 08:37 So I took the evidence of the purchase, 08:39 both that which was sealed according 08:41 to the law and custom, and that which was open, 08:44 And I gave the evidence of the purchase 08:47 unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, 08:52 in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle's son, 08:54 and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed 08:56 the book of the purchase, before all the Jews 08:59 that sat in the court of the prison. 09:01 And I charged Baruch saying, 09:04 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, 09:07 Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, 09:10 both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open, 09:14 and put them in an earthen vessel, 09:16 that they may continue many days. 09:19 For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, 09:22 Houses and fields and vineyards 09:25 shall be possessed again in this land. 09:29 Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase 09:32 unto Baruch the son of Neriah, 09:34 I prayed unto the Lord, saying, Ah Lord God! 09:40 behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth 09:44 by thy great power and stretched out arm, 09:48 and there is nothing too hard for thee, 09:52 Thou shewest loving kindness unto thousands, 09:55 and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers 09:58 into the bosom of their children after them, 10:00 the Great, the Mighty God, the Lord of hosts, 10:05 is his name, Great in counsel, and mighty in work, 10:10 for thine eyes are open upon all the ways 10:13 of the sons of men, to give every one according 10:17 to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings, 10:21 Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, 10:24 even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men, 10:28 and hast made thee a name, as at this day, 10:31 And hast brought forth thy people Israel 10:33 out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, 10:36 and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, 10:39 and with great terror, 10:41 And hast given them this land, which thou didst 10:43 swear to their fathers to give them, 10:45 a land flowing with milk and honey, And they came in, 10:48 and possessed it, but they obeyed not thy voice, 10:53 neither walked in thy law, they have done nothing of all 10:57 that thou commandedst them to do, 10:59 therefore thou hast caused all this evil 11:00 to come upon them, Behold the mounts, 11:03 they are come unto the city to take it, 11:05 and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, 11:08 that fight against it, because of the sword, 11:09 and of the famine, and of the pestilence, 11:12 and what thou hast spoken is come to pass, 11:14 and, behold, thou seest it. 11:17 And thou hast said unto me, O Lord God, 11:19 Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses, 11:22 for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans. 11:25 And then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying, 11:28 Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh, 11:34 is there any thing too hard for me? 11:37 Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will give 11:40 this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand 11:43 of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, 11:45 and he shall take it, And the Chaldeans, 11:47 that fight against this city, shall come and set 11:49 fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, 11:52 upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, 11:55 and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, 11:57 to provoke me to anger. 12:00 For the children of Israel and the children of Judah 12:02 have only done evil before me from their youth, 12:04 for the children of Israel have only provoked 12:06 me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the Lord. 12:10 For this city hath been to me as a provocation 12:12 of mine anger and of my fury from the day 12:15 that they built it even unto this day, 12:17 that I should remove it from before my face, 12:20 Because of all the evil of the children 12:21 of Israel and of the children of Judah, 12:23 which they have done to provoke me to anger, 12:25 they, their kings, their princes, their priests, 12:28 and their prophets, and the men of Judah, 12:29 and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 12:32 And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face, 12:36 though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, 12:40 yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction. 12:43 But they set their abominations in the house, 12:45 which is called by my name, to defile it. 12:48 And they built the high places of Baal, 12:50 which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, 12:52 to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through 12:54 the fire unto Molech, which I commanded them not, 12:57 neither came it into my mind, 12:59 that they should do this abomination, 13:00 to cause Judah to sin. 13:02 And now therefore thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, 13:06 concerning this city, whereof ye say, 13:08 It shall be delivered into the hand 13:10 of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, 13:12 and by the pestilence, Behold, I will gather them 13:16 out of all countries, whither I have driven 13:17 them in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath, 13:20 and I will bring them again unto this place, 13:24 and I will cause them to dwell safely, 13:27 And they shall be my people, and I will be their God, 13:31 And I will give them one heart, and one way, 13:34 that they may fear me for ever, 13:35 for the good of them, and of their children after them, 13:38 And I will make an everlasting 13:40 covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, 13:42 to do them good, but I will put my fear in their hearts, 13:45 that they shall not depart from me. 13:48 Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, 13:51 and I will plant them in this land assuredly 13:53 with my whole heart and with my whole soul. 13:57 For thus saith the Lord, Like as I have brought 13:59 all this great evil upon this people, 14:02 so will I bring upon them all the good 14:04 that I have promised them. 14:06 And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, 14:09 It is desolate without man or beast, it is given into 14:11 the hand of the Chaldeans. 14:13 Men shall buy fields for money, 14:15 and subscribe evidences, and seal them, 14:17 and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, 14:19 and in the places about Jerusalem, 14:21 and in the cities of Judah, 14:23 and in the cities of the mountains, 14:25 and in the cities of the valley, 14:26 and in the cities of the south, 14:29 for I will cause their captivity to return, 14:32 saith the Lord. 14:34 Thank you for being with me to read the Bible, 14:36 and please join me again next time 14:37 to read Jeremiah together, good bye. |
