00:15 Hello, and welcome to "His Words Are Life."
00:18 I am Kelly Mowrer, and today we're going to
00:20 be reading from the Book of Jeremiah.
00:22 But let's pray together before we start.
00:25 Dear Heavenly Father, thank You so much
00:27 for this opportunity to come apart
00:29 from all that we are doing right now
00:31 and to just sit and hear Your word.
00:34 Please send Your Holy Spirit
00:35 to guide our hearts as we listen.
00:37 We love you so much
00:38 and thank You for loving us, amen.
00:41 We're reading in Jeremiah 48, beginning with verse 35,
00:46 and this is the King James Version.
00:49 "Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab,
00:53 saith the Lord, him that offereth in the high places,
00:57 and him that burneth incense to his gods.
01:00 Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes,
01:03 and mine heart shall sound like pipes
01:06 for the men of Kirheres,
01:08 because the riches that he hath gotten are perished.
01:11 For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped,
01:16 upon all the hands shall be cuttings,
01:18 and upon the loins sackcloth.
01:20 There shall be lamentation generally
01:22 upon all the housetops of Moab,
01:24 and in the streets thereof,
01:26 for I have broken Moab like a vessel
01:28 wherein is no pleasure, saith the Lord.
01:32 They shall howl, saying, How is it broken down!
01:35 How hath Moab turned the back with shame!
01:39 So shall Moab be a derision
01:41 and a dismaying to all them about him.
01:45 For thus saith the Lord, Behold,
01:47 he shall fly as an eagle,
01:48 and shall spread his wings over Moab.
01:51 And Kerioth is taken,
01:52 and the strong holds are surprised,
01:54 and the mighty men's hearts in Moab at that day
01:57 shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
02:00 And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people,
02:04 because he hath magnified himself against the Lord.
02:08 Fear, and the pit, and the snare,
02:11 shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab,
02:13 saith the Lord.
02:15 He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit,
02:18 and he that getteth up out of the pit
02:20 shall be taken in the snare, for I will bring upon it,
02:23 even upon Moab, the year of their visitation,
02:27 saith the Lord.
02:29 They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon
02:32 because of the force,
02:33 but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon,
02:36 and a flame from the midst of Sihon,
02:38 and shall deliver the corner of Moab,
02:41 and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.
02:44 Woe be unto thee, O Moab!
02:47 The people of Chemosh perisheth,
02:49 for thy sons are taken captives,
02:51 and thy daughters captives.
02:53 Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab
02:56 in the latter days, saith the Lord.
02:58 Thus far is the judgment of Moab."
03:02 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 49,
03:05 and this is the King James Version.
03:08 "Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the Lord,
03:12 Hath Israel no sons? Hath he no heir?
03:15 Why then doth their king inherit Gad,
03:17 and his people dwell in his cities?
03:20 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord,
03:22 that I will cause an alarm of war
03:25 to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites,
03:28 and it shall be a desolate heap,
03:29 and her daughters shall be burned with fire
03:31 and then shall Israel be heir unto them
03:34 that were his heirs, saith the Lord.
03:36 Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled,
03:40 cry, ye daughters of Rabbah,
03:42 gird you with sackcloth, lament,
03:44 and run to and fro by the hedges,
03:47 for their king shall go into captivity,
03:49 and his priests and his princes together.
03:52 Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys,
03:55 thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter?
03:58 That trusted in her treasures,
03:59 saying, who shall come unto me?
04:01 Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee,
04:04 saith the Lord God of hosts,
04:06 from all those that be about thee,
04:08 and ye shall be driven out every man right forth,
04:11 and none shall gather up him that wandereth.
04:15 And afterward I will bring again
04:17 the captivity of the children of Ammon, saith the Lord.
04:20 Concerning Edom, thus saith the Lord of hosts,
04:24 Is wisdom no more in Teman?
04:26 Is counsel perished from the prudent?
04:29 Is their wisdom vanished?
04:31 Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep,
04:34 O inhabitants of Dedan,
04:36 for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him,
04:40 the time that I will visit him.
04:42 If grape gatherers come to thee,
04:44 would they not leave some gleaning grapes?
04:47 If thieves by night,
04:49 they will destroy till they have enough.
04:51 But I have made Esau bare,
04:53 I have uncovered his secret places,
04:54 and he shall not be able to hide himself,
04:57 his seed is spoiled, and his brethren,
04:59 and his neighbors, and he is not.
05:02 Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive,
05:06 and let thy widow trust in me.
05:09 For thus saith the Lord, Behold,
05:11 they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup
05:15 have assuredly drunken,
05:17 and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished?
05:21 Thou shalt not go unpunished,
05:22 but thou shalt surely drink of it.
05:25 For I have sworn by myself, saith the Lord,
05:27 that Bozrah shall become a desolation,
05:29 a reproach, a waste, and a curse,
05:32 and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.
05:36 I have heard a rumour from the Lord,
05:38 and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen,
05:40 saying, Gather ye together, and come against her,
05:43 and rise up to the battle.
05:44 For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen,
05:47 and despised among men.
05:49 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee,
05:51 and the pride of thine heart,
05:53 O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock,
05:56 that holdest the height of the hill,
05:58 though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle,
06:02 I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.
06:06 Also Edom shall be a desolation,
06:08 every one that goeth by it shall be astonished,
06:11 and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.
06:15 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah
06:18 and the neighbor cities thereof, saith the Lord,
06:19 no man shall abide there,
06:21 neither shall a son of man dwell in it.
06:24 Behold, he shall come up like a lion
06:26 from the swelling of Jordan
06:27 against the habitation of the strong,
06:29 but I will suddenly make him run away from her,
06:31 and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her?
06:34 For who is like me?
06:36 And who will appoint me the time?
06:37 And who is that shepherd that will stand before me?
06:41 Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord,
06:42 that he hath taken against Edom,
06:45 and his purposes, that he hath purposed
06:46 against the inhabitants of Teman,
06:49 Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out,
06:52 surely he shall make their habitations
06:54 desolate with them.
06:56 The earth is moved at the noise of their fall,
06:58 at the cry the noise thereof was heard in the Red sea.
07:02 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle,
07:05 and spread his wings over Bozrah,
07:07 and at that day shall the heart
07:09 of the mighty men of Edom
07:11 be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
07:14 Concerning Damascus.
07:16 Hamath is confounded, and Arpad,
07:18 for they have heard evil tidings,
07:19 they are fainthearted, there is sorrow on the sea,
07:22 it cannot be quiet.
07:24 Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee,
07:29 and fear hath seized on her,
07:31 anguish and sorrows have taken her,
07:34 as a woman in travail.
07:36 How is the city of praise not left,
07:38 the city of my joy! Therefore her young men
07:41 shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war
07:43 shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord of hosts.
07:47 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus,
07:50 and it shall consume the palaces of Benhadad.
07:54 Concerning Kedar,
07:55 and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor,
07:57 which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall smite,
08:00 thus saith the Lord, Arise ye, go up to Kedar,
08:02 and spoil the men of the east.
08:04 Their tents and their flocks shall they take away,
08:07 they shall take to themselves their curtains,
08:09 and all their vessels, and their camels,
08:10 and they shall cry unto them, Fear is on every side.
08:13 Flee, get you far off, dwell deep,
08:15 O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith the Lord,
08:18 for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon
08:20 hath taken counsel against you,
08:22 and hath conceived a purpose against you.
08:24 Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation,
08:26 that dwelleth without care, saith the Lord,
08:29 which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
08:33 And their camels shall be a booty,
08:34 and the multitude of their cattle a spoil,
08:37 and I will scatter into all winds them
08:40 that are in the utmost corners,
08:41 and I will bring their calamity
08:43 from all sides thereof, saith the Lord.
08:46 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons,
08:49 and a desolation for ever,
08:51 there shall no man abide there,
08:53 nor any son of man dwell in it.
08:56 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet
08:59 against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah
09:02 king of Judah, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts,
09:05 Behold, I will break the bow of Elam,
09:08 the chief of their might.
09:10 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds
09:12 from the four quarters of heaven,
09:14 and will scatter them toward all those winds,
09:16 and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam
09:20 shall not come.
09:22 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies,
09:25 and before them that seek their life,
09:27 and I will bring evil upon them,
09:29 even my fierce anger, saith the Lord,
09:32 and I will send the sword after them,
09:34 till I have consumed them,
09:36 And I will set my throne in Elam,
09:38 and will destroy from thence the king
09:40 and the princes, saith the Lord.
09:43 But it shall come to pass in the latter days,
09:46 that I will bring again the captivity of Elam,
09:48 saith the Lord."
09:51 Continuing in Jeremiah Chapter 50,
09:53 and this is the King James Version.
09:56 "The word that the Lord spake against Babylon
09:59 and against the land of the Chaldeans
10:01 by Jeremiah the prophet.
10:03 Declare ye among the nations, and publish,
10:06 and set up a standard, publish,
10:08 and conceal not, say, Babylon is taken,
10:13 Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces,
10:17 her idols are confounded,
10:18 her images are broken in pieces.
10:20 For out of the north
10:21 there cometh up a nation against her,
10:23 which shall make her land desolate,
10:24 and none shall dwell therein, they shall remove,
10:28 they shall depart, both man and beast.
10:32 In those days, and in that time,
10:34 saith the Lord, the children of Israel shall come,
10:37 they and the children of Judah together,
10:40 going and weeping, they shall go,
10:43 and seek the Lord their God.
10:46 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward,
10:49 saying, "come, and let us join ourselves to the Lord
10:52 in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten."
10:57 My people hath been lost sheep,
10:59 their shepherds have caused them to go astray,
11:03 they have turned them away on the mountains,
11:05 they have gone from mountain to hill,
11:07 they have forgotten their resting place.
11:10 All that found them have devoured them,
11:12 and their adversaries said, "We offend not,
11:15 because they have sinned against the Lord,
11:17 the habitation of justice, even the Lord,
11:19 the hope of their fathers."
11:21 Remove out of the midst of Babylon,
11:23 and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans,
11:25 and be as the he goats before the flocks.
11:29 For, lo, I will raise
11:31 and cause to come up against Babylon
11:34 an assembly of great nations from the north country,
11:38 and they shall set themselves in array against her,
11:41 from thence she shall be taken,
11:44 their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man,
11:48 none shall return in vain.
11:50 And Chaldea shall be a spoil,
11:53 all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the Lord.
11:57 Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced,
12:00 O ye destroyers of mine heritage,
12:02 because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass,
12:06 and bellow as bulls,
12:08 Your mother shall be sore confounded.
12:13 And she that bare you shall be ashamed, behold,
12:16 the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness,
12:19 a dry land, and a desert.
12:21 Because of the wrath of the Lord
12:22 it shall not be inhabited,
12:24 but it shall be wholly desolate,
12:26 every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished,
12:29 and hiss at all her plagues.
12:32 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about,
12:35 all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows,
12:38 for she hath sinned against the Lord.
12:41 Shout against her round about, she hath given her hand,
12:44 walls are thrown down, for it is the vengeance of the Lord,
12:48 take vengeance upon her, as she hath done, do unto her.
12:53 Cut off the sower from Babylon,
12:55 and him that handleth the sickle
12:56 in the time of harvest, for fear of the oppressing sword
12:59 they shall turn every one to his people,
13:01 and they shall flee every one to his own land.
13:04 Israel is a scattered sheep,
13:06 the lions have driven him away,
13:08 first the king of Assyria hath devoured him,
13:11 and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon
13:13 hath broken his bones.
13:15 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts,
13:17 the God of Israel, Behold,
13:20 I will punish the king of Babylon and his land,
13:22 as I have punished the king of Assyria.
13:25 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation,
13:28 and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan,
13:31 and his soul shall be satisfied
13:32 upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.
13:35 In those days, and in that time,
13:37 saith the Lord,
13:39 the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for,
13:41 and there shall be none, and the sins of Judah,
13:45 and they shall not be found,
13:46 for I will pardon them whom I reserve.
13:50 Go up against the land of Merathaim,
13:51 even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod,
13:55 waste and utterly destroy after them,
13:57 saith the Lord, and do according to all
14:00 that I have commanded thee.
14:01 A sound of battle is in the land,
14:04 and of great destruction.
14:06 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken!
14:09 How is Babylon become a desolation
14:11 among the nations.
14:13 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken,
14:16 O Babylon, and thou wast not aware,
14:19 thou art found, and also caught,
14:21 because thou hast striven against the Lord.
14:24 The Lord hath opened his armoury,
14:25 and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation
14:28 for this is the work of the Lord
14:29 God of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.
14:32 Come against her from the utmost border,
14:34 open her storehouses, cast her up as heaps,
14:38 and destroy her utterly, let nothing of her be left.
