00:14 Hello and welcome to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're going 00:18 to be reading together from the Book of Jeremiah. 00:21 But before we start let's pray together. 00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much 00:26 for your very great blessings to us. 00:29 Thank you, for bringing us to this time 00:31 to hear Your word and to read it together. 00:34 Please be with us now, 00:35 and teach us what you have for us to learn. 00:37 We love You so much and thank you 00:39 for loving us, amen. 00:42 We're reading in Jeremiah Chapter 51 00:44 beginning with verse 62 00:46 and this is the King James Version. 00:49 "Then shalt thou say, 00:51 O Lord, thou hast spoken against this place, 00:54 to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, 00:57 neither man nor beast, 00:59 but that it shall be desolate forever. 01:02 And it shall be, when thou hast made 01:04 an end of reading this book, 01:06 that thou shalt bind a stone to it, 01:08 and cast it into the midst of Euphrates. 01:11 And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, 01:14 and shall not rise from the evil 01:16 that I will bring upon her, and they shall be weary. 01:20 Thus far are the words of Jeremiah." 01:23 We're continuing now in Jeremiah Chapter 52, 01:26 and this is the King James Version. 01:29 "Zedekiah was one and twenty years old 01:32 when he began to reign, 01:34 and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. 01:37 And his mother's name was Hamutal 01:40 the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 01:43 And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord, 01:46 according to all that Jehoiakim had done. 01:50 For through the anger of the Lord 01:52 it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, 01:55 till he had cast them out from his presence, 01:57 that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. 02:01 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, 02:04 in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, 02:07 that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, 02:10 he and all his army, against Jerusalem, 02:13 and pitched against it, 02:14 and built forts against it round about. 02:18 So the city was besieged 02:19 unto the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. 02:22 And in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, 02:25 the famine was sore in the city, 02:27 so that there was no bread for the people of the land. 02:31 Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, 02:34 and went forth out of the city by night 02:37 by the way of the gate between the two walls, 02:39 which was by the king's garden. 02:41 Now the Chaldeans were by the city round about, 02:44 and they went by the way of the plain. 02:47 The army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, 02:49 and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho 02:51 and all his army was scattered from him. 02:54 Then they took the king, and carried him up 02:56 unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, 02:59 where he gave judgment upon him. 03:02 And the king of Babylon slew the sons 03:04 of Zedekiah before his eyes, 03:06 he slew also all the princes of Judah in Riblah. 03:10 Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah, 03:13 and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, 03:15 and carried him to Babylon, 03:16 and put him in prison till the day of his death. 03:20 Now in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month, 03:23 which was the nineteenth year 03:24 of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, 03:27 came Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, 03:29 which served the king of Babylon, 03:31 into Jerusalem, and burned the house of the Lord, 03:33 and the king's house and all the houses of Jerusalem, 03:35 and all the houses of the great men, 03:37 burned he with fire. 03:38 And all the army of the Chaldeans, 03:40 that were with the captain of the guard, 03:42 brake down all the walls of Jerusalem round about. 03:46 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard 03:48 carried away captive certain of the poor of the people, 03:52 and the residue of the people that remained in the city, 03:55 and those that fell away, 03:56 that fell to the king of Babylon, 03:59 and the rest of the multitude. 04:01 But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard 04:03 left certain of the poor of the land 04:05 for vinedressers and for husbandmen. 04:08 Also the pillars of brass 04:10 that were in the house of the Lord, 04:12 and the bases, and the brazen sea 04:14 that was in the house of the Lord, 04:16 the Chaldeans brake, and carried 04:17 all the brass of them to Babylon. 04:20 The caldrons also, and the shovels, 04:21 and the snuffers, and the bowls, 04:23 and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass 04:26 wherewith they ministered, took they away. 04:29 And the basons, and the firepans, 04:31 and the bowls, and the caldrons, 04:33 and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups 04:36 that which was of gold in gold 04:38 and that which was of silver in silver, 04:41 took the captain of the guard away. 04:44 The two pillars, one sea, 04:46 and twelve brazen bulls that were under the bases, 04:48 which King Solomon had made in the house of the Lord, 04:51 the brass of all these vessels was without weight. 04:55 And concerning the pillars, 04:56 the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, 04:59 and a fillet of twelve cubits did compass it, 05:02 and the thickness thereof was four fingers, it was hollow. 05:06 And a chapiter of brass was upon it, 05:07 and the height of one chapiter was five cubits, 05:10 with network and pomegranates 05:12 upon the chapiters round about, all of brass. 05:15 The second pillar also and the pomegranates 05:17 were like unto these. 05:18 And there were ninety 05:19 and six pomegranates on a side, 05:21 and all the pomegranates 05:22 upon the network were an hundred round about. 05:25 And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, 05:29 and Zephaniah the second priest, 05:30 and the three keepers of the door. 05:32 He took also out of the city an eunuch, 05:35 which had the charge of the men of war, 05:37 and seven men of them 05:38 that were near the king's person, 05:40 which were found in the city, 05:42 and the principal scribe of the host, 05:44 who mustered the people of the land, 05:46 and threescore men of the people of the land, 05:49 that were found in the midst of the city. 05:51 So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, 05:55 and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. 05:59 And the king of Babylon smote them, 06:01 and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath. 06:05 Thus Judah was carried away captive out of his own land. 06:11 This is the people whom Nebuchadnezzar 06:13 carried away captive in the seventh year 06:16 three thousand Jews and three and twenty. 06:19 In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar 06:22 he carried away captive 06:23 from Jerusalem eight hundred thirty and two persons. 06:27 In the three and twentieth year of Nebuchadnezzar, 06:31 Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard 06:33 carried away captive of the Jews 06:35 seven hundred forty and five persons, 06:37 all the persons were four thousand and six hundred. 06:41 And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year 06:44 of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, 06:47 in the twelfth month, 06:49 in the five and twentieth day of the month, 06:52 that Evilmerodach king of Babylon 06:54 in the first year of his reign 06:56 lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, 07:00 and brought him forth out of prison. 07:03 And spake kindly unto him, 07:05 and set his throne above the throne of the kings 07:08 that were with him in Babylon. 07:10 And changed his prison garments, 07:12 and he did continually eat bread 07:15 before him all the days of his life. 07:18 And for his diet, there was a continual diet 07:21 given him of the king of Babylon, 07:23 every day a portion until the day of his death, 07:27 all the days of his life." 07:30 We're going now to the Book of Lamentations Chapter 1 07:33 and this is the King James Version. 07:37 "How doth the city sit solitary, 07:39 that was full of people. 07:41 How is she become as a widow. 07:44 She that was great among the nations, 07:46 and princess among the provinces, 07:48 how is she become tributary. 07:50 She weepeth sore in the night, 07:52 and her tears are on her cheeks, 07:55 among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her, 07:58 all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, 08:01 they are become her enemies. 08:03 Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, 08:06 and because of great servitude. 08:09 She dwelleth among the heathen, 08:11 she findeth no rest. 08:13 All her persecutors overtook her 08:15 between the straits. 08:17 The ways of Zion do mourn, 08:19 because none come to the solemn feasts. 08:22 All her gates are desolate, her priests sigh, 08:26 her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness. 08:30 Her adversaries are the chief, 08:32 her enemies prosper, 08:33 for the Lord hath afflicted her 08:35 for the multitude of her transgressions. 08:37 Her children are gone into captivity 08:39 before the enemy. 08:41 And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed. 08:45 Her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, 08:48 and they are gone without strength 08:49 before the pursuer. 08:52 Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction 08:54 and of her miseries all her pleasant things 08:57 that she had in the days of old, 08:59 when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, 09:01 and none did help her. 09:03 The adversaries saw her, 09:04 and did mock at her sabbaths. 09:07 Jerusalem hath grievously sinned, 09:10 therefore she is removed. 09:13 All that honoured her despise her, 09:15 because they have seen her nakedness, 09:18 yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward. 09:21 Her filthiness is in her skirts, 09:23 she remembereth not her last end, 09:26 therefore she came down wonderfully. 09:29 She had no comforter. 09:31 O Lord, behold my affliction. 09:33 for the enemy hath magnified himself. 09:35 The adversary hath spread out his hand 09:38 upon all her pleasant things, 09:40 for she hath seen that the heathen 09:42 entered into her sanctuary, 09:44 whom thou didst command 09:45 that they should not enter into thy congregation. 09:48 All her people sigh, they seek bread, 09:52 they have given their pleasant things 09:54 for meat to relieve the soul. 09:56 See, O Lord, and consider, for I am become vile. 10:01 Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? 10:04 Behold, and see if there be any sorrow 10:07 like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, 10:09 wherewith the Lord hath afflicted me 10:11 in the day of his fierce anger. 10:13 From above hath he sent fire into my bones, 10:16 and it prevaileth against them. 10:18 He hath spread a net for my feet, 10:20 he hath turned me back. 10:21 He hath made me desolate and faint all the day. 10:25 The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand. 10:29 They are wreathed, and come up upon my neck. 10:32 He hath made my strength to fall, 10:35 the Lord hath delivered me into their hands, 10:37 from whom I am not able to rise up. 10:41 The Lord hath trodden under foot 10:43 all my mighty men in the midst of me. 10:45 He hath called an assembly against me 10:48 to crush my young men. 10:49 The Lord hath trodden the virgin, 10:51 the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress. 10:54 For these things I weep, mine eye, 10:57 mine eye runneth down with water, 10:59 because the comforter that should relieve 11:00 my soul is far from me. 11:03 My children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed. 11:07 Zion spreadeth forth her hands, 11:09 and there is none to comfort her. 11:11 The Lord hath commanded concerning Jacob, 11:13 that his adversaries should be round about him. 11:15 Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman among them. 11:19 The Lord is righteous, 11:21 for I have rebelled against his commandment. 11:24 Hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow. 11:29 My virgins and my young men are gone into captivity. 11:32 I called for my lovers, but they deceived me. 11:34 My priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, 11:38 while they sought their meat to relieve their souls. 11:41 Behold, O Lord, for I am in distress. 11:45 My bowels are troubled, 11:46 mine heart is turned within me, 11:49 for I have grievously rebelled. 11:51 Abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death. 11:57 They have heard that I sigh. 11:59 There is none to comfort me. 12:02 All mine enemies have heard of my trouble, 12:05 they are glad that thou hast done it. 12:07 Thou wilt bring the day that thou hast called, 12:09 and they shall be like unto me. 12:11 Let all their wickedness come before thee, 12:13 and do unto them, 12:14 as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions, 12:17 for my sighs are many, and my heart is faint." 12:22 Continuing Lamentations Chapter 2. 12:26 "How hath the Lord covered 12:27 the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, 12:30 and cast down from heaven 12:31 unto the earth the beauty of Israel, 12:33 and remembered not his footstool 12:35 in the day of his anger. 12:38 The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, 12:41 and hath not pitied. 12:42 He hath thrown down in his wrath 12:44 the strong holds of the daughter of Judah, 12:46 he hath brought them down to the ground. 12:48 He hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof. 12:51 He hath cut off in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel. 12:55 He hath drawn back his right hand 12:56 from before the enemy, and he burned 12:58 against Jacob like a flaming fire, 13:00 which devoureth round about. 13:02 He hath bent his bow like an enemy. 13:05 He stood with his right hand as an adversary, 13:08 and slew all that were pleasant 13:10 to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion. 13:13 He poured out his fury like fire. 13:16 The Lord was as an enemy. 13:18 He hath swallowed up Israel, 13:19 he hath swallowed up all her palaces. 13:21 He hath destroyed his strong holds, 13:23 and hath increased in the daughter of Judah 13:26 mourning and lamentation. 13:28 And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, 13:30 as if it were of a garden. 13:32 He hath destroyed his places of the assembly. 13:35 The Lord hath caused the solemn feasts 13:37 and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, 13:39 and hath despised in the indignation 13:41 of his anger the king and the priest. 13:44 The Lord hath cast off his altar, 13:47 he hath abhorred his sanctuary, 13:49 he hath given up into the hand of the enemy 13:51 the walls of her palaces, 13:53 they have made a noise in the house of the Lord, 13:56 as in the day of a solemn feast. 14:01 The Lord hath purposed 14:02 to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion. 14:05 He hath stretched out a line, 14:07 he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying. 14:10 Therefore he made the rampart and the wall to lament, 14:13 they languished together. 14:15 Her gates are sunk into the ground, 14:17 he hath destroyed and broken her bars. 14:20 Her king and her princes are among the Gentiles. 14:24 The law is no more, 14:25 her prophets also find no vision from the Lord. 14:29 The elders of the daughter of Zion 14:30 sit upon the ground, and keep silence. 14:33 They have cast up dust upon their heads, 14:36 they have girded themselves with sackcloth. 14:38 The virgins of Jerusalem 14:40 hang down their heads to the ground." |
