00:15 Hello and welcome back to His words are life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today 00:19 we're going to continue reading the story of Daniel. 00:22 But first let's pray together. 00:25 Dear Heavenly Father thank you 00:27 that we can come apart and taste 00:29 and see that you are good, 00:32 thank you for the bread of life. 00:34 We are going to be enjoying today 00:36 as we sit and hear Your word, 00:38 please be with us as we read in the name of Jesus. Amen. 00:43 We're reading in the book of Daniel 00:45 we are in the middle of the story 00:46 where Daniel and his three friends have been singled out 00:51 and brought a part in the King's household 00:55 and given a portion of the king's meat 00:58 and wine and they are asking their overseer 01:04 to let them not eat of that fancy food 01:07 and he's concerned he said, what if the king looks at you 01:10 and sees that you're accounting us, 01:12 that your face appears less healthy 01:16 because you're not eating the food 01:17 the King has provided, and Daniel response 01:22 asking for a chance to prove to them that 01:26 if they will give them ten days 01:28 and let them eat just pulse and drink water, 01:31 we'll see what happens. 01:33 We pickup the story in Daniel Chapter 1 verse 13 01:37 this is the King James Version. 01:41 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, 01:44 and the countenances of the children 01:46 that eat of the portion of the king's meat, 01:49 and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. 01:53 So he consented to them in this matter, 01:56 and proved them ten days. 01:59 And at the end of ten days 02:01 their countenances appeared fairer 02:03 and fatter in the flesh than all the children which did 02:08 eat the portion of the king's meat. 02:11 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, 02:13 and the wine that they should drink, 02:15 and gave them pulse. 02:17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge 02:21 and skill in all learning and wisdom, 02:26 and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. 02:30 Now at the end of the days 02:32 that the king had said he should bring them in, 02:34 then the prince of the eunuchs 02:36 brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. 02:38 And the king communed with them 02:40 and among them all was found none like Daniel, 02:44 Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 02:48 therefore stood there before the king. 02:51 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, 02:55 that the king enquired of them, 02:57 he found them ten times better than all the magicians 03:02 and astrologers that were in all his realm. 03:05 And Daniel continued even 03:08 unto the first year of king Cyrus. 03:12 Continuing in Daniel Chapter 2 03:14 and this is the King James Version. 03:17 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, 03:21 Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, 03:23 wherewith his spirit was troubled, 03:25 and his sleep brake from him. 03:28 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, 03:31 and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, 03:33 and the Chaldeans, for to show the king his dreams. 03:35 So they came and stood before the king. 03:38 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, 03:41 and my spirit was troubled to know the dream. 03:45 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, 03:49 O king, live for ever, tell thy servants the dream, 03:54 and we will shew the interpretation. 03:57 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, 04:00 The thing is gone from me, 04:02 if ye will not make known unto me the dream, 04:05 with the interpretation thereof, 04:06 ye shall be cut in pieces, 04:08 and your houses shall be made a dunghill. 04:11 But if ye show the dream, 04:14 and the interpretation thereof, 04:15 ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour, 04:20 therefore show me the dream, 04:23 and the interpretation thereof. 04:26 They answered again and said, 04:28 let the king tell his servants the dream, 04:31 and we will show the interpretation of it. 04:34 The king answered and said, 04:36 I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, 04:39 because ye see the thing is gone from me. 04:42 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, 04:45 there is but one decree for you, 04:48 for ye have prepared lying 04:50 and corrupt words to speak before me, 04:52 till the time be changed, therefore tell me the dream, 04:54 and I shall know that ye can show me 04:56 the interpretation thereof. 04:58 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, 05:01 There is not a man upon the earth 05:02 that can show the king's matter, 05:05 therefore there is no king, Lord, nor ruler, 05:07 that asked such things at any magician, 05:09 or astrologer, or Chaldean. 05:12 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, 05:14 and there is none other that can show it before the king, 05:16 except the Gods, 05:17 whose dwelling is not with flesh. 05:20 For this cause the king was angry 05:23 and very furious, 05:25 and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. 05:29 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain, 05:33 and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain. 05:38 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom 05:43 to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, 05:46 which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon. 05:49 He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, 05:54 Why is the decree so hasty from the king? 05:58 Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. 06:02 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king 06:06 that he would give him time, 06:08 and that he would show the king the interpretation. 06:12 Then Daniel went to his house, 06:14 and made the thing known to Hananiah, 06:17 Mishael, and Azariah, his companions. 06:20 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven 06:23 concerning this secret, 06:26 that Daniel and his fellows should not perish 06:28 with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. 06:32 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. 06:38 Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. 06:41 Daniel answered and said, 06:42 Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever, 06:46 for wisdom and might are his. 06:49 And he changeth the times and the seasons, 06:52 he removeth kings, and setteth up kings, 06:55 he giveth wisdom unto the wise, 06:57 and knowledge to them that know understanding. 07:01 He revealeth the deep and secret things, 07:05 he knoweth what is in the darkness, 07:08 and the light dwelleth with him. 07:10 I thank thee, and praise thee, 07:13 O thou God of my fathers, 07:16 who hast given me wisdom and might, 07:19 and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee, 07:23 for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter. 07:27 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, 07:29 whom the king had ordained 07:31 to destroy the wise men of Babylon. 07:33 He went and said thus unto him, 07:36 Destroy not the wise men of Babylon, 07:38 bring me in before the king, 07:40 and I will shew unto the king the interpretation. 07:43 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, 07:47 and said thus unto him, 07:49 I have found a man of the captives of Judah, 07:52 that will make known unto the king the interpretation. 07:56 The king answered and said to Daniel, 07:58 whose name was Belteshazzar, 08:01 Art thou able to make known unto me 08:04 the dream which I have seen, 08:06 and the interpretation thereof? 08:09 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, 08:11 and said, The secret which the king 08:14 hath demanded cannot the wise men, 08:17 the astrologers, the magicians, 08:20 the soothsayers, show unto the king. 08:23 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, 08:28 and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar 08:30 what shall be in the latter days. 08:33 Thy dream, and the visions of thy head 08:36 upon thy bed, are these. 08:40 As for thee, O king, 08:41 thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, 08:45 what should come to pass hereafter, 08:48 and he that revealeth secrets 08:51 maketh known to thee what shall come to pass. 08:55 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me 08:58 for any wisdom that I have more than any living, 09:03 but for their sakes that shall make known 09:05 the interpretation to the king, 09:07 and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart. 09:11 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. 09:17 This great image, whose brightness was excellent, 09:20 stood before thee, 09:22 and the form thereof was terrible. 09:24 This image's head was of fine gold, 09:27 his breast and his arms of silver, 09:29 his belly and his thighs of brass, 09:31 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron 09:34 and part of clay. 09:36 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, 09:41 which smote the image upon his feet 09:43 that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. 09:47 Then was the iron, the clay, 09:50 the brass, the silver, 09:51 and the gold, broken to pieces together, 09:55 and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors, 09:58 and the wind carried them away, 10:01 that no place was found for them, 10:03 and the stone that smote the image 10:06 became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. 10:10 This is the dream, 10:12 and we will tell the interprettion thereof 10:14 before the king. 10:16 Thou, O king, art a king of kings, 10:20 for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, 10:24 power, and strength, and glory. 10:27 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, 10:30 the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven 10:33 hath he given into thine hand, 10:35 and hath made thee ruler over them all. 10:38 Thou art this head of gold. 10:42 And after thee shall arise 10:45 another kingdom inferior to thee, 10:48 and another third kingdom of brass, 10:50 which shall bear rule over all the earth. 10:52 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, 10:57 for as much as iron breaketh in pieces 10:59 and subdueth all things, 11:00 and as the iron that breaketh all these, 11:03 shall it break in pieces and bruise. 11:08 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, 11:10 part of potters' clay, and part of iron, 11:12 the kingdom shall be divided, 11:14 but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, 11:18 for as much as thou sawest the iron 11:21 mixed with miry clay. 11:23 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, 11:26 and part of clay, 11:28 so the kingdom shall be partly strong, 11:31 and partly broken. 11:33 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, 11:37 they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men, 11:41 they shall not cleave one to another, 11:43 even as iron is not mixed with clay. 11:46 And in the days of these kings 11:49 shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, 11:53 which shall never be destroyed, 11:55 and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, 11:58 but it shall break in pieces 12:00 and consume all these kingdoms, 12:02 and it shall stand for ever. 12:05 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut 12:09 out of the mountain without hands, 12:11 and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, 12:14 the clay, the silver, and the gold, 12:17 the great God hath made known to the king 12:20 what shall come to pass hereafter, 12:23 and the dream is certain, 12:25 and the interpretation thereof sure. 12:29 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, 12:31 and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that 12:34 they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him. 12:38 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, 12:42 that your God is a God of Gods, 12:46 and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, 12:50 seeing thou couldest reveal this secret. 12:54 Then the king made Daniel a great man, 12:57 and gave him many great gifts, 12:59 and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, 13:02 and chief of the governors 13:03 over all the wise men of Babylon. 13:06 Then Daniel requested of the king, 13:08 and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, 13:11 over the affairs of the province of Babylon, 13:14 but Daniel sat in the gate of the king. 13:19 Continuing now in Daniel Chapter 3 13:22 and this is the King James Version. 13:25 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, 13:30 whose height was threescore cubits, 13:33 and the breadth thereof six cubits, 13:36 he set it up in the plain of Dura, 13:38 in the province of Babylon. 13:41 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together 13:45 the princes, the governors, 13:47 and the captains, the judges, 13:49 the treasurers, the counsellors, 13:51 the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, 13:55 to come to the dedication of the image 13:57 which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 14:01 Then the princes, the governors, 14:03 and captains, the judges, 14:05 the treasurers, the counsellors, 14:06 the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, 14:09 were gathered together unto the dedication of the image 14:13 that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up, 14:16 and they stood before the image 14:18 that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 14:20 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, 14:23 O people, nations, and languages, 14:26 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, 14:28 flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, 14:32 and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship 14:35 the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar 14:37 the king hath set up. |
