00:14 Hello and welcome to 'His Words Are Life,'
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today
00:19 we're going to continue the story of Daniel together,
00:21 but first let's pray.
00:24 Dear Heavenly Father we thank You
00:27 that you are the God of all things
00:30 and you are the God of
00:32 whatever we're each facing in our present
00:35 and you are the God of our futures
00:37 and I ask you now to be with us
00:39 as we read the story together today
00:43 that you will show us
00:45 the truth that you have for each one of us in these words
00:48 I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
00:51 Well, in the middle of the story
00:53 of the great golden image that king of Nebuchadnezzar had
00:58 set up in the plain of Dura and he is gather together
01:01 this huge crowd and right in the middle of the announcement
01:05 that when they hear the sound of the music
01:07 everyone should bow down and worship.
01:09 Picking up the story in Daniel Chapter 3 verse 6
01:13 and this is the King James Version.
01:17 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth
01:21 shall the same hour be cast
01:23 into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
01:28 Therefore at that time,
01:29 when all the people heard the sound of the cornet,
01:32 flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery,
01:35 and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations,
01:38 and the languages, fell down and worshipped
01:42 the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar
01:44 the king had set up.
01:46 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans
01:50 came near, and accused the Jews.
01:54 They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar,
01:57 O king, live for ever.
01:59 Thou, O king, hast made a decree,
02:02 that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet,
02:05 flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer,
02:08 and all kinds of musick,
02:10 shall fall down and worship the golden image.
02:12 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth,
02:15 that he should be cast
02:16 into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
02:19 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs
02:24 of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach,
02:28 and Abednego, these men, O king,
02:30 have not regarded thee, they serve not thy Gods,
02:35 nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
02:39 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage
02:42 and fury commanded to bring Shadrach,
02:45 Meshach, and Abednego.
02:47 Then they brought these men before the king.
02:50 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them,
02:53 Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,
02:56 do not ye serve my Gods,
02:58 nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
03:02 Now if ye be ready that at what time
03:05 ye hear the sound of the cornet,
03:07 flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery,
03:10 and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick,
03:12 ye fall down and worship the image
03:13 which I have made, well, but if ye worship not,
03:18 ye shall be cast the same hour
03:20 into the midst of a burning fiery furnace,
03:22 and who is that God
03:24 that shall deliver you out of my hands?
03:28 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered
03:31 and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar,
03:35 we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
03:38 If it be so,
03:40 our God whom we serve is able to deliver us
03:44 from the burning fiery furnace,
03:46 and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
03:50 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king,
03:53 that we will not serve thy Gods,
03:56 nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
04:00 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury,
04:03 and the form of his visage was changed against
04:07 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,
04:08 therefore he spake, and commanded
04:11 that they should heat the furnace
04:13 one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
04:18 And he commanded the most mighty men
04:21 that were in his army to bind Shadrach,
04:24 Meshach, and Abednego,
04:25 and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
04:28 Then these men were bound in their coats,
04:31 their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments,
04:35 and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
04:40 Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent,
04:43 and the furnace exceeding hot,
04:45 the flame of the fire slew those men
04:48 that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
04:51 And these three men,
04:53 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,
04:55 fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
05:01 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied,
05:06 and rose up in haste, and spake,
05:08 and said unto his counsellors,
05:09 Did not we cast three men bound
05:12 into the midst of the fire?
05:14 They answered and said unto the king,
05:16 True, O king.
05:18 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose,
05:22 walking in the midst of the fire,
05:24 and they have no hurt,
05:26 and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
05:32 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near
05:35 to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace,
05:37 and spake, and said, Shadrach,
05:39 Meshach, and Abednego,
05:41 ye servants of the most high God,
05:44 come forth, and come hither.
05:47 Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,
05:50 came forth of the midst of the fire.
05:54 And the princes, governors, and captains,
05:57 and the king's counsellors, being gathered together,
06:00 saw these men, upon whose bodies
06:04 the fire had no power,
06:06 nor was an hair of their head singed,
06:09 neither were their coats changed,
06:11 nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
06:15 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said,
06:18 Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach,
06:21 and Abednego, who hath sent his angel,
06:23 and delivered his servants that trusted in him,
06:28 and have changed the king's word,
06:30 and yielded their bodies,
06:32 that they might not serve nor worship any God,
06:36 except their own God.
06:38 Therefore I make a decree, That every people,
06:42 nation, and language,
06:44 which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach,
06:47 Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces,
06:50 and their houses shall be made a dunghill.
06:53 because there is no other God
06:55 that can deliver after this sort.
06:58 Then the king promoted Shadrach,
07:00 Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.
07:05 Continuing in the book of Daniel Chapter 4
07:08 this is the King James Version.
07:12 Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people,
07:15 nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth,
07:18 Peace be multiplied unto you.
07:22 I thought it good to show the signs and wonders
07:25 that the high God hath wrought toward me.
07:29 How great are his signs!
07:32 and how mighty are his wonders!
07:34 his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
07:37 and his dominion is from generation to generation.
07:42 I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house,
07:46 and flourishing in my palace,
07:49 I saw a dream which made me afraid,
07:52 and the thoughts upon my bed
07:53 and the visions of my head troubled me.
07:57 Therefore made I a decree
07:59 to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me,
08:01 that they might make known unto me
08:03 the interpretation of the dream.
08:05 Then came in the magicians,
08:06 the astrologers, the Chaldeans,
08:08 and the soothsayers,
08:09 and I told the dream before them,
08:11 but they did not make known unto me
08:13 the interpretation thereof.
08:15 But at the last Daniel came in before me,
08:19 whose name was Belteshazzar,
08:21 according to the name of my God,
08:23 and in whom is the spirit of the holy Gods,
08:25 and before him I told the dream,
08:27 saying, O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians,
08:30 because I know that the spirit of the holy Gods is in thee,
08:34 and no secret troubleth thee,
08:36 tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen,
08:39 and the interpretation thereof.
08:41 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed,
08:46 I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth,
08:52 and the height thereof was great.
08:54 The tree grew, and was strong,
08:56 and the height thereof reached unto heaven,
08:59 and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth.
09:03 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much,
09:07 and in it was meat for all.
09:10 The beasts of the field had shadow under it,
09:12 and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof,
09:14 and all flesh was fed of it.
09:18 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed,
09:22 and, behold, a watcher
09:25 and an holy one came down from heaven,
09:28 He cried aloud, and said thus,
09:30 Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches,
09:33 shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit,
09:36 let the beasts get away from under it,
09:38 and the fowls from his branches.
09:41 Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth,
09:44 even with a band of iron and brass,
09:47 in the tender grass of the field,
09:49 and let it be wet with the dew of heaven,
09:51 and let his portion be with the beasts
09:54 in the grass of the earth.
09:56 Let his heart be changed from man's,
09:58 and let a beast's heart be given unto him,
10:00 and let seven times pass over him.
10:05 This matter is by the decree of the watchers,
10:07 and the demand by the word of the holy ones,
10:09 to the intent that the living
10:11 may know that the most High ruleth
10:14 in the kingdom of men,
10:16 and giveth it to whomsoever he will,
10:19 and setteth up over it the basest of men.
10:24 This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen.
10:29 Now thou, O Belteshazzar,
10:31 declare the interpretation thereof,
10:33 forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom
10:35 are not able to make known unto me the interpretation,
10:38 but thou art able,
10:40 for the spirit of the holy Gods is in thee.
10:44 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar,
10:47 was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him.
10:52 The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar,
10:56 let not the dream,
10:58 or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee.
11:02 Belteshazzar answered and said,
11:04 My Lord, the dream be to them that hate thee,
11:08 and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.
11:12 The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong,
11:15 whose height reached unto the heaven,
11:17 and the sight thereof to all the earth.
11:19 Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much,
11:22 and in it was meat for all,
11:23 under which the beasts of the field dwelt,
11:25 and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven
11:27 had their habitation.
11:30 It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong,
11:35 for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven,
11:38 and thy dominion to the end of the earth.
11:42 And whereas the king saw a watcher
11:45 and an holy one coming down from heaven,
11:48 and saying, Hew down the tree,
11:50 and destroy it, yet leave the stump of the roots
11:52 thereof in the earth,
11:54 even with a band of iron and brass,
11:55 in the tender grass of the field,
11:57 and let it be wet with the dew of heaven,
11:58 and let his portion be with the beasts of the field,
12:01 till seven times pass over him.
12:04 This is the interpretation, O king,
12:07 and this is the decree of the most High,
12:11 which is come upon my Lord the king.
12:14 That they shall drive thee from men,
12:17 and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field,
12:19 and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen,
12:23 and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven,
12:25 and seven times shall pass over thee,
12:28 till thou know that the most High ruleth
12:32 in the kingdom of men,
12:33 and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
12:36 And whereas they commanded to leave
12:39 the stump of the tree roots,
12:41 thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee,
12:44 after that thou shalt have known
12:46 that the heavens do rule.
12:50 Wherefore, O king,
12:52 let my counsel be acceptable unto thee,
12:55 and break off thy sins by righteousness,
12:58 and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor,
13:03 if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.
13:07 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.
13:12 At the end of twelve months
13:13 he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
13:17 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon,
13:21 that I have built for the house of the kingdom
13:24 by the might of my power,
13:26 and for the honour of my majesty?
13:28 While the word was in the king's mouth,
13:31 there fell a voice from heaven,
13:33 saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken,
13:38 The kingdom is departed from thee.
13:42 And they shall drive thee from men,
13:43 and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field,
13:46 they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen,
13:49 and seven times shall pass over thee,
13:51 until thou know that the most High ruleth
13:54 in the kingdom of men,
13:56 and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
13:59 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar,
14:03 And he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen,
14:07 and his body was wet with the dew of heaven,
14:10 till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers,
14:14 and his nails like birds' claws.
14:16 And at the end of the days
14:18 I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven,
14:22 and mine understanding returned unto me,
14:25 and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him
14:28 that liveth for ever,
14:30 whose dominion is an everlasting dominion,
14:34 and his kingdom is from generation to generation.
