00:14 Hello and welcome to His words are life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today 00:19 we are going to begin reading in the Book of Amos together. 00:22 But first let's pray. 00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, 00:26 we come again to sit and to feast on Your word. 00:32 Please nourish us and feed us the bread of life. 00:37 Send the Holy Spirit to help us 00:38 to understand what we hear. 00:41 We love You so much and thank You for loving us, amen. 00:45 We're beginning today 00:46 in the Book of Amos, Chapter 1 verse 1 00:49 and this is the King James Version. 00:52 "The words of Amos 00:54 who was among the herd men of Tekoa 00:58 which he saw concerning Israel 01:00 in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, 01:03 and in the days of jeroboam the son of Joash, 01:06 king of Israel two years before the earth quake 01:10 And he said, The Lord will roar from Zion, 01:13 and utter his voice from Jerusalem, 01:17 and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, 01:20 and the top of Carmell shall wither. 01:23 Thus saith the Lord, 01:24 For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, 01:29 I will not turn away the punishment thereof, 01:31 because they have threshed Giliead 01:33 with the threshing instruments of iron. 01:36 But I will send the fire in to the house of Hazael 01:39 which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad. 01:44 I will break also the bar of Damascus, 01:46 and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, 01:49 and him that holds the sceptre from the house of Eden 01:51 and the people of Syria shall go into captivity 01:55 unto Kir, saith the Lord. 01:58 Thus saith the Lord, 01:59 For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, 02:02 I will not turn away the punishment thereof, 02:05 because they carried away captive the whole captivity, 02:09 to deliver them up to Edom. 02:11 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, 02:13 which shall devour the palaces thereof. 02:16 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, 02:18 and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, 02:22 and I will turn mine hand against Ekron, 02:24 and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, 02:27 saith the Lord God. 02:29 Thus saith the Lord, 02:30 For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, 02:32 I will not turn away the punishment thereof, 02:35 because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, 02:37 and remembered not the brotherly covenant. 02:41 But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, 02:43 which shall devour the palaces thereof. 02:45 Thus saith the Lord, 02:48 For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, 02:51 I will not turn away the punishment thereof, 02:54 because he did pursue his brother with the sword, 02:57 and did cast off all pity, 03:00 and his anger did tear perpetually, 03:02 and he kept his wrath for ever. 03:04 But I will send a fire upon Teman, 03:06 which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah. 03:10 Thus saith the Lord, 03:11 For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, 03:13 and for four, 03:14 I will not turn away the punishment thereof, 03:17 because they have ripped up 03:18 the women with child of Gilead, 03:20 that they might enlarge their border. 03:23 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, 03:26 and it shall devour the palaces thereof, 03:28 with shouting in the day of battle, 03:30 with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind, 03:33 And their king shall go into captivity, 03:36 he and his princes together, saith the Lord. 03:41 Continuing in the Book of the Amos Chapter 2 03:43 and this is the King James Version. 03:46 "Thus saith the Lord, 03:48 For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, 03:52 I will not turn away the punishment thereof, 03:55 because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime, 04:00 But I will send a fire upon Moab, 04:01 and it shall devour the palaces of Kirioth, 04:05 and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, 04:08 and with the sound of the trumpet. 04:10 And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, 04:13 and will slay all the princes 04:14 thereof with him, saith the Lord. 04:17 Thus saith the Lord, 04:19 For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, 04:23 I will not turn away the punishment thereof, 04:26 because they have despised the law of the Lord 04:30 and have not kept his commandments, 04:32 and their lies caused them to err, 04:35 after the which their fathers have walked. 04:38 But I will send a fire upon Judah, 04:40 and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem. 04:44 Thus saith the Lord, 04:45 For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, 04:49 I will not turn away the punishment thereof, 04:52 because they sold the righteous for silver, 04:55 and the poor for a pair of shoes, 04:59 That pant after the dust of the earth 05:01 on the head of the poor, 05:02 and turn aside the way of the meek, 05:04 and a man and his father will go in unto the same maid, 05:08 to profane my holy name, 05:10 And they lay themselves down upon clothes 05:12 laid to pledge by every altar, 05:13 and they drink the wine of the condemned 05:16 in the house of their god. 05:19 Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, 05:21 whose height was like the height of the cedars, 05:23 and he was strong as the oaks, 05:25 yet I destroyed his fruit from above, 05:27 and his roots from beneath. 05:29 Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, 05:32 and led you forty years through the wilderness, 05:35 to possess the land of the Amorite. 05:37 And I raised up of your sons for prophets, 05:40 and of your young men for Nazarites. 05:42 Is it not even thus, O all of you children of Israel? 05:46 Saith the Lord. 05:47 But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink, 05:50 and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not. 05:54 Behold, I am pressed under you, 05:58 as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves. 06:01 Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, 06:05 and the strong shall not strengthen his force, 06:08 neither shall the mighty deliver himself, 06:11 neither shall he stand that handleth the bow, 06:14 and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself, 06:18 neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself. 06:22 And he that is courageous among the mighty 06:24 shall flee away naked in that day, saith the Lord. 06:29 Continuing in the Book of Amos, Chapter 3, 06:32 and this is the King James Version. 06:35 Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, 06:39 O children of Israel, against the whole family 06:42 which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, 06:45 You only have I known of all the families of the earth, 06:50 therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. 06:53 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? 06:58 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? 07:02 Will a young lion cry out of his den, 07:04 if he have taken nothing? 07:07 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, 07:10 where no gin is for him? 07:12 Shall one take up a snare from the earth, 07:14 and have taken nothing at all? 07:17 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, 07:20 and the people not be afraid? 07:22 Shall there be evil in a city, 07:24 and the Lord hath not done it? 07:26 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, 07:28 but he revealeth his secret 07:30 unto his servants the prophets. 07:32 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? 07:36 The Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy? 07:41 Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, 07:44 and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, 07:46 Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, 07:49 and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, 07:51 and the oppressed in the midst thereof. 07:53 For they know not to do right, saith the Lord, 07:57 who store up violence and robbery in their palaces. 08:01 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, 08:03 An adversary there shall be even round about the land, 08:09 and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, 08:11 and thy palaces shall be spoiled. 08:15 Thus saith the Lord, 08:17 As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth 08:19 of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, 08:23 so shall the children of Israel be taken out 08:26 that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, 08:29 and in Damascus in a couch. 08:31 Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, 08:34 saith the Lord God, the God of hosts, 08:37 That in the day that I shall visit 08:39 the transgressions of Israel upon him 08:42 I will also visit the altars of Bethel, 08:45 and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, 08:47 and fall to the ground. 08:49 And I will smite the winter house with the summer house, 08:53 and the houses of ivory shall perish, 08:55 and the great houses shall have an end, saith the Lord. 09:01 Continuing in the Book of Amos Chapter 4, 09:03 and this is the King James Version. 09:06 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, 09:09 that are in the mountain of Samaria, 09:11 which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, 09:14 which say to their masters, bring, and let us drink. 09:18 The Lord God hath sworn by his holiness, 09:21 that, lo, the days shall come upon you, 09:24 that he will take you away with hooks, 09:27 and your posterity with fishhooks. 09:30 And ye shall go out at the breaches, 09:31 every cow at that which is before her, 09:34 and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the Lord. 09:38 Come to Bethel, and transgress, 09:40 at Gilgal multiply transgression, 09:43 and bring your sacrifices every morning, 09:44 and your tithes after three years, 09:46 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, 09:50 and proclaim and publish the free offerings, 09:53 for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, 09:55 saith the Lord God. 09:58 And I also have given you cleanness 10:01 of teeth in all your cities, 10:03 and want of bread in all your places, 10:06 yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. 10:10 And also I have withholden the rain from you, 10:12 when there were yet three months to the harvest, 10:15 and I caused it to rain upon one city, 10:17 and caused it not to rain upon another city, 10:20 one piece was rained upon, 10:22 and the piece whereupon it rained not withered. 10:24 So two or three cities wandered unto one city, 10:28 to drink water, but they were not satisfied, 10:31 yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. 10:35 I have smitten you with blasting and mildew, 10:39 when your gardens and your vineyards 10:41 and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, 10:44 the palmerworm devoured them, 10:46 yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. 10:50 I have sent among you the pestilence 10:52 after the manner of Egypt, 10:53 your young men have I slain with the sword, 10:56 and have taken away your horses, 10:57 and I have made the stink of your camps 11:00 to come up unto your nostrils, 11:02 yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. 11:06 I have overthrown some of you, 11:07 as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, 11:10 and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning, 11:14 yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. 11:17 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, 11:19 O Israel, and because I will do this unto thee, 11:23 prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. 11:26 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, 11:30 and createth the wind, 11:31 and declareth unto man what is his thought, 11:35 that maketh the morning darkness, 11:37 and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, 11:40 The Lord, The God of hosts, is his name." 11:45 Continuing with Amos Chapter 5, 11:47 and this is the King James Version. 11:50 Hear ye this word which I take up against you, 11:53 even a lamentation, O house of Israel. 11:57 The virgin of Israel is fallen, 11:59 she shall no more rise, 12:02 she is forsaken upon her land, 12:04 there is none to raise her up. 12:06 For thus saith the Lord God, 12:08 The city that went out by a thousand 12:11 shall leave an hundred, 12:12 and that which went forth by an hundred 12:15 shall leave ten, to the house of Israel. 12:19 For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, 12:21 Seek ye me, and ye shall live, 12:26 But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, 12:30 and pass not to Beersheba, 12:33 for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, 12:36 and Bethel shall come to nought. 12:39 Seek the Lord, and ye shall live, 12:43 lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, 12:45 and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel. 12:49 Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, 12:51 and leave off righteousness in the earth, 12:53 Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, 12:57 and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, 13:00 and maketh the day dark with night, 13:02 that calleth for the waters of the sea, 13:04 and poureth them out upon the face of the earth, 13:06 The Lord is his name, 13:08 That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, 13:12 so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress. 13:16 They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, 13:19 and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly. 13:23 Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, 13:27 and ye take from him burdens of wheat, 13:30 ye have built houses of hewn stone, 13:32 but ye shall not dwell in them, 13:34 ye have planted pleasant vineyards, 13:35 but ye shall not drink wine of them. 13:38 For I know your manifold transgressions 13:40 and your mighty sins, they afflict the just, 13:44 they take a bribe, and they turn aside 13:47 the poor in the gate from their right. 13:50 Therefore the prudent shall keep silence 13:53 in that time, for it is an evil time. 13:56 Seek good, and not evil, 13:58 that ye may live, 14:00 and so the Lord, the God of hosts, 14:02 shall be with you, as ye have spoken. 14:04 Hate the evil, and love the good, 14:07 and establish judgment in the gate, 14:09 and it may be that the Lord God of hosts 14:12 will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph. 14:16 Therefore the Lord, the God of hosts, 14:19 the Lord, saith thus, 14:21 Wailing shall be in all streets, 14:23 and they shall say in all the highways, 14:25 Alas! alas! and they shall call 14:27 the husbandman to mourning, 14:29 and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing. 14:32 And in all vineyards shall be wailing. 14:35 For I will pass through thee, saith the Lord. |
