00:15 Hello and welcome to "His words are life."
00:17 I am Kelly Mowrer and today
00:19 we are going to read together
00:20 from the Book of Nahum, but first let's pray.
00:24 Dear Heavenly Father,
00:25 thank you for all of your children,
00:29 the men and women throughout history
00:30 who have had a hand in bringing us
00:33 the treasure of this scripture today.
00:35 And now we ask that your Holy Spirit will come,
00:38 as we read these words.
00:40 May they bring new life to our hearts.
00:42 We love you and thank you for loving us, amen.
00:47 I am reading in the Book of Nahum, Chapter 3,
00:51 beginning with verse 10.
00:53 And this is the King James Version.
00:56 "Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity,
01:00 her young children also were dashed in pieces
01:03 at the top of all the streets,
01:05 and they cast lots for her honourable men,
01:08 and all her great men were bound in chains.
01:11 Thou also shalt be drunken, thou shalt be hid,
01:14 thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.
01:17 All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees
01:20 with the firstripe figs, if they be shaken,
01:24 they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.
01:27 Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women,
01:30 the gates of thy land shall be set wide open
01:33 unto thine enemies, the fire shall devour thy bars.
01:37 Draw thee waters for the siege,
01:39 fortify thy strong holds, go into clay,
01:42 and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.
01:46 There shall the fire devour thee,
01:48 the sword shall cut thee off,
01:50 it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm,
01:53 make thyself many as the cankerworm,
01:56 make thyself many as the locusts.
01:59 Thou hast multiplied thy merchants
02:01 above the stars of heaven, the cankerworm spoileth,
02:05 and flieth away.
02:07 Thy crowned are as the locusts,
02:09 and thy captains as the great grasshoppers,
02:11 which camp in the hedges in the cold day,
02:14 but when the sun ariseth they flee away,
02:17 and their place is not known where they are.
02:20 Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria,
02:24 thy nobles shall dwell in the dust,
02:27 thy people is scattered upon the mountains,
02:29 and no man gathereth them.
02:32 There is no healing of thy bruise,
02:34 thy wound is grievous, all that hear
02:37 the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee,
02:41 for upon whom hath not
02:43 thy wickedness passed continually?"
02:46 Continuing to read in the Book of Habakkuk, Chapter 1.
02:51 This is the King James Version.
02:54 "The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
02:58 O Lord, how long shall I cry,
03:01 and thou wilt not hear!
03:03 even cry out unto thee of violence,
03:05 and thou wilt not save!
03:08 Why dost thou shew me iniquity,
03:10 and cause me to behold grievance?
03:12 For spoiling and violence are before me,
03:15 and there are that raise up strife and contention.
03:19 Therefore the law is slacked,
03:21 and judgment doth never go forth,
03:24 for the wicked doth compass about the righteous,
03:26 therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
03:30 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard,
03:33 and wonder marvelously,
03:36 for I will work a work in your days,
03:39 which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
03:43 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans,
03:45 that bitter and hasty nation,
03:48 which shall march through the breadth of the land,
03:50 to possess the dwelling places that are not their's.
03:54 They are terrible and dreadful,
03:56 their judgment and their dignity
03:58 shall proceed of themselves.
04:01 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards,
04:04 and are more fierce than the evening wolves,
04:07 and their horsemen shall spread themselves,
04:09 and their horsemen shall come from far,
04:11 they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
04:15 They shall come all for violence,
04:18 their faces shall sup up as the east wind,
04:22 and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.
04:26 And they shall scoff at the kings,
04:28 and the princes shall be a scorn unto them,
04:30 they shall deride every strong hold,
04:33 for they shall heap dust, and take it.
04:36 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over,
04:40 and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.
04:45 Art thou not from everlasting,
04:48 O Lord my God, mine Holy One?
04:51 We shall not die.
04:53 O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment,
04:56 and, O mighty God,
04:59 thou hast established them for correction.
05:03 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil,
05:06 and canst not look on iniquity,
05:09 wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously,
05:12 and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth
05:15 the man that is more righteous than he?
05:17 And makest men as the fishes of the sea,
05:20 as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
05:23 They take up all of them with the angle,
05:26 they catch them in their net,
05:27 and they gather them in their drag,
05:29 therefore they rejoice and are glad
05:31 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net,
05:33 and burn incense unto their drag,
05:36 because by them their portion is fat,
05:38 and their meat plenteous.
05:40 Shall they therefore empty their net,
05:43 and not spare continually to slay the nations?"
05:48 Continuing in Habakkuk Chapter 2.
05:52 This is the King James Version.
05:55 "I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower,
05:59 and will watch to see what he will say unto me,
06:03 and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
06:06 And the Lord answered me, and said,
06:09 Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables,
06:13 that he may run that readeth it.
06:15 For the vision is yet for an appointed time,
06:18 but at the end it shall speak, and not lie,
06:22 though it tarry, wait for it,
06:25 because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
06:30 Behold, his soul which is lifted up
06:33 is not upright in him,
06:35 but the just shall live by his faith.
06:40 Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine,
06:43 he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home,
06:47 who enlargeth his desire as hell,
06:49 and is as death, and cannot be satisfied,
06:53 but gathereth unto him all nations,
06:55 and heapeth unto him all people,
06:58 Shall not all these take up a parable against him,
07:01 and a taunting proverb against him, and say,
07:04 Woe to him that increaseth that
07:07 which is not his! how long?
07:10 and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!
07:13 Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee,
07:17 and awake that shall vex thee,
07:19 and thou shalt be for booties unto them?
07:22 Because thou hast spoiled many nations,
07:25 all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee,
07:29 because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land,
07:33 of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
07:36 Woe to him that coveteth an evil
07:38 covetousness to his house,
07:41 that he may set his nest on high,
07:42 that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
07:46 Thou hast consulted shame to thy house
07:49 by cutting off many people,
07:51 and hast sinned against thy soul.
07:55 For the stone shall cry out of the wall,
07:57 and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.
08:00 Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood,
08:04 and stablisheth a city by iniquity!
08:07 Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts that
08:11 the people shall labor in the very fire,
08:13 and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?
08:17 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge
08:20 of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
08:24 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink,
08:27 that puttest thy bottle to him,
08:28 and makest him drunken also,
08:30 that thou mayest look on their nakedness!
08:33 Thou art filled with shame for glory,
08:36 drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered,
08:40 the cup of the Lord's right hand
08:42 shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing
08:46 shall be on thy glory.
08:48 For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee,
08:51 and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid,
08:54 because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land,
08:57 of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
09:01 What profiteth the graven image that
09:04 the maker thereof hath graven it,
09:07 the molten image, and a teacher of lies,
09:10 that the maker of his work trusteth therein,
09:12 to make dumb idols?
09:15 Woe unto him that saith to the wood,
09:17 Awake, to the dumb stone,
09:19 Arise, it shall teach!
09:22 Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver,
09:24 and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
09:27 But the Lord is in his holy temple,
09:31 let all the earth keep silence before him."
09:36 Continuing with Habakkuk Chapter3.
09:38 This is the King James Version.
09:42 "A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.
09:48 O Lord, I have heard thy speech,
09:51 and was afraid, O Lord,
09:53 receive thy work in the midst of the years,
09:56 in the midst of the years make known,
09:59 in wrath remember mercy.
10:02 God came from Teman,
10:04 and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah.
10:08 His glory covered the heavens,
10:09 and the earth was full of his praise.
10:12 And his brightness was as the light,
10:15 he had horns coming out of his hand,
10:17 and there was the hiding of his power.
10:20 Before him went the pestilence,
10:22 and burning coals went forth at his feet.
10:26 He stood, and measured the earth, he beheld,
10:30 and drove asunder the nations,
10:32 and the everlasting mountains were scattered,
10:35 the perpetual hills did bow, his ways are everlasting.
10:42 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction,
10:46 and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
10:50 Was the Lord displeased against the rivers?
10:53 Was thine anger against the rivers?
10:54 Was thy wrath against the sea that
10:56 thou didst ride upon thine horses
10:58 and thy chariots of salvation?
11:01 Thy bow was made quite naked,
11:03 according to the oaths of the tribes,
11:05 even thy word, Selah.
11:07 Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
11:10 The mountains saw thee, and they trembled,
11:13 the overflowing of the water passed by,
11:16 the deep uttered his voice,
11:18 and lifted up his hands on high.
11:21 The sun and moon stood still in their habitation,
11:25 at the light of thine arrows they went,
11:28 and at the shining of thy glittering spear.
11:31 Thou didst march through the land in indignation,
11:34 thou didst thresh the heathen in anger.
11:37 Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people,
11:41 even for salvation with thine anointed,
11:44 thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked,
11:48 by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.
11:52 Thou didst strike through with his staves
11:55 the head of his villages, they came out
11:57 as a whirlwind to scatter me,
11:59 their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
12:04 Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses,
12:07 through the heap of great waters.
12:10 When I heard, my belly trembled,
12:13 my lips quivered at the voice,
12:16 rottenness entered into my bones,
12:18 and I trembled in myself,
12:20 that I might rest in the day of trouble,
12:23 when he cometh up unto the people,
12:26 he will invade them with his troops.
12:28 Although the fig tree shall not blossom,
12:31 neither shall fruit be in the vines,
12:34 the labor of the olive shall fail,
12:36 and the fields shall yield no meat,
12:39 the flock shall be cut off from the fold,
12:41 and there shall be no herd in the stalls,
12:44 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
12:48 I will joy in the God of my salvation.
12:52 The Lord God is my strength,
12:55 and he will make my feet like hinds' feet,
12:59 and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.
13:03 To the chief singer on my stringed instruments."
13:08 Continuing now with the Book of Zephaniah, Chapter 1.
13:12 And this is the King James Version.
13:16 "The word of the Lord which
13:17 came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi,
13:20 the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah,
13:24 the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah
13:27 the son of Amon, king of Judah.
13:30 I will utterly consume all things from off the land,
13:34 saith the Lord.
13:36 I will consume man and beast,
13:38 I will consume the fowls of the heaven,
13:40 and the fishes of the sea,
13:42 and the stumbling blocks with the wicked,
13:44 and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the Lord.
13:49 I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah,
13:52 and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
13:54 and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place,
13:57 and the name of the Chemarims with the priests,
14:00 And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops,
14:03 and them that worship and that swear by the Lord,
14:05 and that swear by Malcham,
14:08 And them that are turned back from the Lord,
14:10 and those that have not sought the Lord,
14:13 nor enquired for him.
14:15 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord God,
14:18 for the day of the Lord is at hand,
14:20 for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice,
14:23 he hath bid his guests.
14:25 And it shall come to pass in the day
14:27 of the Lord's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes,
14:30 and the king's children, and all such
14:33 as are clothed with strange apparel. Good bye.
