00:35 Hi, I'm Dr. Kim, and welcome to Live to be Well.
00:40 Have you ever said to yourselves, "I have regrets.
00:44 Why did my life take back turn?
00:47 Why did I have to go through that?
00:50 Why? Why? Why?"
00:51 Well, my special guest today has no regrets.
00:55 Welcome, Principal Larry Key, how are you today?
00:59 I'm doing fine, thank you.
01:00 All right, I got to get some out of the way
01:02 before we go any further, all right?
01:04 All right. Let's go back to 1975.
01:08 Can we do that? Okay.
01:09 All right, we're on our way to Huntsville, Alabama,
01:13 on the greyhound bus.
01:15 Now we have a history.
01:17 We were raised in the same church.
01:19 I was born and raised there.
01:21 You came when you were 17? Yes.
01:23 Around early... yeah, later teens.
01:26 Marshal T. Kelly was our pastor.
01:28 Yes.
01:29 And so here you come and some of the other brethren
01:33 and I am like, "Okay, who is this?"
01:35 You know, and so, but we connected.
01:38 I had afro. Yeah, you had, woo, the afro.
01:40 Michael Jackson big. Yes, you did, you did, you did.
01:42 The silvers. You did.
01:44 You had all that. Yes you did. You're good looking brother.
01:46 Still, you know, you got it, you got it.
01:48 But we decided to go to Oakwood.
01:51 Yes. You know, no money but faith.
01:54 You and I had all the faith in the world.
01:55 Oakwood College. Oakwood College.
01:57 That's only way I know it, Oakwood college.
01:59 So we're on the greyhound bus
02:00 and we get to Nashville, Tennessee.
02:02 Oh my! Oh my!
02:04 And so we get there to change buses
02:06 to the trail bus line, right?
02:08 That's right. So...
02:10 'cause greyhound didn't go to Huntsville.
02:12 It didn't go to Huntsville.
02:13 So we had to, you know, you know, go.
02:15 All right, so we're in the bus station
02:17 and police officers...
02:18 I'm going to tell my version, all right?
02:20 You can tell your version.
02:21 And so the police officer came over to me
02:24 and he just started bothering me.
02:27 And I was like, "You don't know who I am and where I'm from."
02:32 You know, and but, you then said, you know,
02:36 "Please, my sister didn't have her medication today."
02:39 You told the police officer that I'm mentally ill.
02:43 That is correct.
02:44 And that kept me from going to jail.
02:46 I was on a mission to make it to Oakwood.
02:50 And so you... By any means necessary.
02:51 But you know what, you know what,
02:53 I just don't understand why you'd have to tell him
02:54 I didn't have my medication that day.
02:56 Because if I didn't, you would be in prison,
02:58 maybe still, right now, today.
02:59 Right, yeah.
03:01 So the police let me go and you said,
03:04 "Kim, just be quiet.
03:05 Don't say nothing else. We're going to school."
03:07 You know, so we got there and I think you, kind of,
03:11 you know, stopped acquainting yourself
03:13 with me after that, you know.
03:15 So I've prayed the lord that you kept me out of jail,
03:18 you know, and my life would've taken
03:20 another turn, all right?
03:22 All right.
03:23 But I just want to thank you for coming over.
03:24 We've been friends a long time.
03:26 And I've seen God do miracles in your life.
03:29 So let's talk about, you know, us going to Oakwood, you know,
03:32 let's start a humble beginning Detroit, Michigan.
03:34 All right?
03:36 Well, actually we really started
03:37 at Wayne County Community.
03:38 That's where we started. Mr. Boon.
03:40 Mr. Boon's class. The English teacher.
03:42 Yes, oh, my goodness!
03:44 Very difficult teacher, but we made it through.
03:46 Yes. We made it through.
03:48 We had English class together. Right.
03:50 You are right, take me back.
03:52 And then we transferred those credits to Oakwood.
03:53 To Oakwood. Yes we did.
03:55 We went to Oakwood as advanced freshman.
03:57 Yes we did.
03:58 You know, come on, advanced freshman.
03:59 That's right, advanced. Yes we did.
04:01 All right, so what, tell us all about it, Larry.
04:04 Well, you know, I come from humble beginnings,
04:07 God has blessed me tremendously in my life.
04:11 You know about my story.
04:14 How I was adopted at the age of two months old
04:18 and brought into the Key family,
04:20 and then later, I was brought up a Baptist.
04:26 And then I met this young lady
04:28 and she was Seventh-day Adventist.
04:30 And as they say the rest is history.
04:32 I joined the Seventh-day Adventist church
04:35 and I'm so thankful I did.
04:37 And God has tremendously had his hand on me all my life.
04:42 I just always remembered my favorite scripture,
04:46 "I can do all things through Christ Jesus
04:48 who strengthens me," even though I had counselors
04:51 and even some professors at Oakwood University
04:55 that told me I wasn't college material.
04:57 They told you that?
04:59 Yes, but I pursued and I believed.
05:01 And Pastor Kelly used to tell me all the time,
05:04 if I read my bible, my grades would improve.
05:07 And so I believed on that and God blessed me.
05:10 As I sit here today, I have five degrees.
05:13 Tell us what those Degrees are.
05:14 I have a Socialist of Science & Communications,
05:18 Socialist of Arts & Liberal Arts,
05:20 Bachelor's in Communications and Bachelor's in Religion
05:24 and Master's of Arts in Teaching.
05:25 Amen.
05:27 So God has truly blessed
05:28 and I'm just so thankful for that.
05:31 Now you just recently celebrated
05:33 your 25th wedding anniversary.
05:34 Oh, yes. Went of Hawaii.
05:37 Yes. You know, I can do that.
05:38 Honolulu, Hawaii. You see my sun tan I got?
05:41 I see it, I see it, you know. Yes, I got a chance to swim.
05:45 Did you swim? In the Pacific Ocean.
05:47 I had swum in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California.
05:50 Yeah.
05:51 But this time, Hawaii, Waikiki Beach.
05:54 Yes, yes.
05:55 And I swam in the Atlantic
05:56 so my next on my bucket list is the Gulf.
05:59 I want to swim in the Gulf. Really?
06:01 I love swimming. I've been swimming all my life.
06:03 I'm a trained water safety instructor.
06:05 Yes.
06:07 Life guards, I've trained life guards.
06:08 So that was wonderful.
06:09 Pam, she, loved it. Yeah.
06:11 We got a chance to go to the...
06:13 The dole...
06:15 Pineapple Dole Plantation.
06:17 We saw some...
06:19 We saw some of the culture there.
06:20 Yeah. That was wonderful.
06:22 Japanese food. Yeah. Yeah.
06:23 Delicious. Yeah.
06:25 I mean, all kind of vegetables. Beautiful flowers.
06:27 All the flowers. That was amazing.
06:28 Oh. And the sunset. Oh, yeah.
06:30 Was fantastic. Amazing.
06:32 I'm so happy that Arthur and the girls and I,
06:34 we would go before he passed, and that was one of our trips,
06:37 you know, we were able to do The Five Islands, you know.
06:40 Let's talk about no regrets.
06:43 You've no regrets becoming a Seventh-day Adventist,
06:46 no regrets pursuing your education.
06:49 And now, you know, you were in teaching in public school.
06:54 Yes.
06:55 Tell us about that journey
06:57 and how God led you to another journey.
06:59 Well, actually, I started off my career
07:03 in Adventist Christian education
07:06 at Peterson-Warren Academy.
07:09 And I've been an educator now for 27 years.
07:12 And I...
07:14 Now what did you do at Peters? I'm sorry.
07:15 I was the Bible teacher chaplain.
07:17 Okay.
07:18 And I taught history as well. Okay.
07:20 I taught there for four years. Okay.
07:22 And then I got a call
07:23 to the Southwest Seventh-day Adventist conference.
07:27 And I was the principal in a small school
07:30 in Alexandra, Louisiana.
07:33 I remember when you were there.
07:34 And, matter of fact, that's where
07:35 my youngest child, Micah, she was born in Louisiana.
07:37 Okay.
07:39 And then I left there
07:40 and I went to Nashville, Tennessee.
07:42 I remember that. Taught at F.H. Jenkins.
07:45 The same school that Mark Keble went to.
07:47 Is that the same school? In elementary.
07:49 All right. I've taken sixth.
07:50 And then there was a special program.
07:54 They were looking for African-American man
07:56 to go into elementary school
07:59 in the public school system in Nashville, Tennessee.
08:02 And they were offering to pay all of your tuition and books,
08:05 just to become state certified in elementary.
08:08 So I took advantage of that program.
08:12 And from there for the last 20 years,
08:14 I taught in public school.
08:17 And then... And then...
08:19 And then now no regrets.
08:21 No regrets. No regrets.
08:23 I had a Jonah experience.
08:26 Meaning...
08:28 matter of fact, it was your sister
08:29 the superintendent of Lake Region Conference.
08:32 They caught me and asked me if I was interested
08:36 in being the principal at Peterson-Warren Academy.
08:39 And I turned the personnel committee down twice.
08:45 You turned them down twice? Turned them down twice.
08:47 And after the second time, I turned them down.
08:51 I had a Jonah experience.
08:52 What I mean is for three days and three nights,
08:56 I could barely eat or barely sleep.
08:59 And I was tossing and turning.
09:00 I said, "Lord, you want me to do what?
09:03 You want me to go to Peterson-Warren Academy,
09:06 you want me to come out of public school,
09:09 you want me to end my retirement early,
09:12 take an early retirement and go and teach
09:15 in Adventist Christian school and make less money?"
09:21 And I said, "Lord, you really want me to do this?"
09:24 And so from past experiences in my life,
09:28 I knew it was a calling that God wanted me
09:31 at Peterson-Warren Academy for such a time as this.
09:35 After the first two times I turned down
09:38 the personal committee, then I began to get phone calls
09:42 from friends of mine from across the country,
09:46 pastoral friends, individuals
09:48 who've known me for many, many years.
09:51 And they began to pray with me, counsel with me,
09:53 give me advice, and then...
09:57 So after that in those three days
09:59 of not being able to sleep, getting some counsel,
10:03 praying with individuals, I went by the school.
10:07 And I just happen to be in the area.
10:09 So I said let me drive by the school.
10:12 So I looked in the parking lot and there were two cars.
10:15 I didn't know who the cars belonged to.
10:18 And so I picked up my mobile device
10:21 and I called the office, and I said...
10:25 A friend of mine answered the phone,
10:27 Angeline Crawford, and I said,
10:29 "Miss Crawford, are they still looking
10:32 for a principal at Peterson-Warren Academy?"
10:34 and she said with the saddest voice,
10:37 "Yes, Larry, we're still praying for a principal."
10:40 I said, "Okay, then, well, I'll talk to you later."
10:44 And there I hung up the phone.
10:47 And right there in the parking lot
10:48 I heard the voice
10:49 just as clear as I'm speaking to you right now.
10:52 "Now take the job."
10:54 And I immediately was at peace with myself
10:59 and I knew that God wanted me to go to Peterson at that time.
11:02 And so I called up the superintendent
11:05 and called the president and I told the president,
11:08 Dr. Jones, of the Lake Region Conference.
11:11 I said, "If the position is still available,
11:13 I will take it and I guarantee you,
11:15 I will not turn it down or back out again."
11:18 And so they prayed about in the personnel committee,
11:22 they interviewed me,
11:24 and they want to know what change of mine...
11:29 I said, "Well, I didn't want be
11:31 the principal of Peterson Academy
11:33 because other individuals wanted me to
11:35 or because I wanted to, I want to make sure
11:38 that God wanted me
11:40 to be the Principal of Peterson-Warren Academy.
11:43 So the money was not an issue.
11:45 The leaving early retirement with the State of Michigan
11:50 was not an issue.
11:52 I prayed and talked with my family members,
11:54 my wife, and after that,
11:57 the conviction and the voice, it was clear.
12:01 And I have no regrets.
12:02 I am so glad that I left public school
12:05 and came back to Christian Seventh-day Adventist School,
12:10 and I love it, I love it.
12:12 My goodness. I'm at peace with myself.
12:14 I enjoy it.
12:15 You know, knowing you for so many...
12:18 Since you were teenagers and knowing your journey
12:21 'cause some of our journeys intertwined.
12:24 So many times. I have to hear this.
12:25 So many times.
12:26 And you came to see Arthur in hospital.
12:29 You're saying, "There shall be peace in the valley."
12:32 And he was so moved by it.
12:34 And when you called to see if you could come, I said,
12:37 "Of course," 'cause he loved you
12:38 and you loved him.
12:39 And to hear this story and not knowing
12:45 what you went through to accept the position,
12:50 I'm just, you know,
12:52 I don't get speechless too often
12:53 but I'm really touched because it's humbling.
12:56 And...
12:57 Of course, some of my friends thought I was crazy...
12:59 Of course, they will.
13:00 To leave the money, to leave the big job and pay.
13:02 It's not all about money all the time.
13:04 It's about serving the Lord. Exactly.
13:07 And we're living in the last days
13:08 of earth's history.
13:10 And we are.
13:11 Let's talk about the Revelation seminar.
13:13 You gave...
13:14 I'm going to back to Christian 'cause I'm going to ask
13:17 what is the difference between...
13:18 Let's do that first, the difference between
13:21 Christian education
13:22 and Seventh-day Adventist education,
13:25 what is the difference?
13:26 It's a big difference.
13:27 Number one, Seventh-day Adventist Christian education
13:31 has been around for many, many years.
13:35 God showed through his prophet Ellen G White
13:39 about Christian education.
13:40 We are the largest Protestant church school
13:44 Christian education system in the entire world.
13:47 And we're not there by chance. That's right.
13:52 And we have schools, colleges, universities
13:55 all over the world.
13:56 And the big difference between public education...
14:00 I've been in both arenas.
14:02 The difference is, number one, that God is there.
14:05 That's right.
14:07 The Holy Spirit, angels, students able to pray.
14:10 Pray in the classroom.
14:12 Teachers are able to pray and talk about God.
14:13 Yeah.
14:14 Now I tell you, even though
14:17 I was just kind of a secret agent
14:19 in the public school system,
14:21 I will plant my Bible on my desk
14:25 and if students came to me and start asking questions
14:31 about God, then I could respond.
14:33 Right 'cause you couldn't initiate...
14:34 But I couldn't volunteer... I couldn't initiate it.
14:36 But anyway, the big difference is the Spirit of God.
14:41 Yes, the Spirit of God.
14:42 See if you think about it, if all wisdom and knowledge
14:45 comes from God, would you want to be in the school system
14:49 that promotes God where you have
14:51 freedom to worship God, to talk about God,
14:54 to have prayer at the beginning of every classroom
14:58 and every subject, science, math?
15:00 It doesn't matter.
15:02 And so that was a great draw
15:05 and that's the difference between public school
15:09 and Christian Seventh-day Adventist School.
15:13 And it's a special blueprint.
15:15 And by the way, a lot of people don't understand
15:19 but Seventh-day Adventist Christian education,
15:24 we have done studies and we found out
15:26 that our students do better on the national exams.
15:29 We score higher, we have
15:31 a higher percentage of students going into college
15:34 and so successfully graduating from college.
15:37 And so the proof is in the pudding
15:41 that Seventh-day Adventists schools are superior.
15:46 Now I look at your children, your son just graduated
15:49 from Oakwood a couple of years ago.
15:52 Yes. And his field of study is what?
15:55 Business finance.
15:56 And then you have a daughter in her last year of Oakwood
15:58 in bio, can really go to medical school.
16:00 Can really go to medical school.
16:02 So again, Christian education,
16:04 Seventh-day Adventist Christian,
16:05 my daughter went all the way
16:07 through Seventh-day Adventist Christian education.
16:09 Aaron, Seventh-day Adventist Christian education.
16:11 My mother made the sacrifice of sin,
16:13 that's the Davison Academy, Delfin Academy, onto which...
16:17 and I went to Wayne County for a year
16:19 but whatever I had to do, you know, to raise money,
16:23 I worked three jobs at Oakwood to stay at Oakwood.
16:26 And I remember, you know,
16:28 one student said to me, "Where you going?"
16:30 I said, "I got to go to my other job."
16:32 You know, and I had 12, 14 credits,
16:34 sometimes 16 credits.
16:36 And but I have to pay for my tuition.
16:38 Right.
16:39 You know, but I'm not going home,
16:41 I want to stay at Oakwood.
16:42 What was it about Oakwood College University?
16:46 What was it, you know?
16:47 Is nothing like the Oakwood experience.
16:50 Nothing like it.
16:52 You meet people from all over the world,
16:54 different cultures, from Africa,
16:57 from all of the beautiful islands
16:59 in the Caribbean.
17:01 People that the teachers were dedicated,
17:04 they were caring.
17:05 Matter of fact, I had a teacher one time.
17:07 She knew I needed to pass Spanish
17:10 in order to graduate.
17:11 Okay.
17:13 And that teacher, I overslept and I had an exam,
17:15 a final exam and I overslept.
17:18 She came to Atwood's Hall. Did she page you?
17:21 And paged me. No.
17:22 And said, "Mr. Key, Senor Key, get up with that,
17:26 out that bed now and come on to class."
17:28 Those were the kind of teachers dedicated.
17:31 You know, you don't get that in a university
17:33 where you're in a classroom with 500 students.
17:35 The teacher cared so much for me
17:38 that she came to get me out of my bed.
17:41 I remember... I'm sorry.
17:43 When you say that Dr. Sylvia Barnes, English.
17:46 Oh. Oh, Sylvia Barnes did not play.
17:47 Cut those adjectives, nouns, verbs.
17:50 So I come to class, the first week of class,
17:53 I'm like, "Really?
17:54 I can't really understand you lady right."
17:56 And she says like, "Where are you from?"
17:58 I said, "Detroit." And, "Where were you from?"
18:01 And people were like,
18:02 "You don't know who you are dealing with."
18:04 That's right.
18:05 And I'm like, "And okay, 'cause we had Mr. Boons,
18:06 I'm not scared of anybody," right?
18:08 That's true.
18:09 And, you know, and she says, "Come here."
18:11 She says, "What are your plans for your future?"
18:14 and I say, "Can I just get through the semester?"
18:17 "We need to think bigger. Bigger."
18:19 And I'm like, "Well, can we get to the next semester?"
18:21 And they were challenging. Yes!
18:23 The teachers were challenging.
18:24 And she was so happy that I made it
18:25 through the first semester, second semester,
18:28 and you know I failed psychology?
18:30 No, I didn't know that. I failed, yes.
18:32 But Dr. Keith Woods came
18:34 and saw me sitting on the steps.
18:39 What's the do...
18:41 Peterson? Nope.
18:42 Cunningham? Nope.
18:43 What's a grey building? Marian hall?
18:45 Marian hall, where we had psychology.
18:46 And I was sitting there crying and he walked up.
18:48 I didn't know who he was. He said, "What's the matter?"
18:51 and I said, "I failed in psychology
18:53 and I want to be a psychologist,
18:54 psychotherapist..."
18:56 But my teacher said there's no hope for me.
18:58 He says, "I'm a new professor here.
19:00 Take my class, take it again." And I took his class.
19:04 And I really didn't have the money,
19:05 but what was I going to do.
19:07 Do you know I got an A out of his class?
19:08 Praise God.
19:10 And he walked me through, every time I see him,
19:12 he just smiles, he laughs, he says,
19:14 "Don't let anyone tell you what you can't become."
19:16 That's right.
19:18 Don't ever let anyone discourage you, you know.
19:20 And yes, we have Andrews and they recently closed
19:23 Atlantic Union College.
19:24 Yes. They joined...
19:26 And we still have so many, Loma Linda
19:28 and all these schools that people not even aware
19:30 of that they're under the Seventh-day Adventist,
19:32 you know, denomination.
19:34 But I feel that Oakwood provides...
19:38 you can go anywhere and get a meal.
19:40 True.
19:41 You let somebody know you're from Oakwood,
19:42 I'm going to, I'm coming to your house...
19:44 Anywhere? Anywhere.
19:45 If you're visiting my church... Let me tell you...
19:47 We, my wife and I were just in Hawaii last week,
19:52 and I went to the Hawaiian Central Church,
19:56 Seventh-day Adventist church.
19:58 And I was looking over to my right
20:00 and I saw this individual say, "Oh, he looks familiar."
20:04 And then he was looking at me.
20:06 After church come to find out he was an Oakwoodite.
20:09 Kelvin Preston, and he was in...
20:10 Yes. I travel 6,000 miles away.
20:13 Yeah, surprising.
20:14 Yes, and he was just at City Temple.
20:16 Yes. And so we greeted each other.
20:19 He was with his wife, and they were
20:20 on the Seven Island cruise in Hawaii.
20:22 Yeah.
20:23 But the bond of Oakwood...
20:25 There it is.
20:27 You're no strangers no matter where you go in the world.
20:29 Let me ask you, "Do you think that you are arrogant?"
20:32 people tend to say you are arrogant.
20:34 No, I'm not arrogant, I am confident.
20:37 And my mother taught me at a small age,
20:40 a young age to always look them in the eye,
20:43 think well of yourself
20:44 or no one else will think well of you.
20:46 So sometimes people mistake my confidence for arrogance
20:51 but it's not that I'm arrogant, it's just I'm confident.
20:53 I believe that I can do anything through Christ.
20:57 My God will supply all my needs.
20:59 So it's confidence that God was about...
21:02 Even when there is no evidence.
21:03 No evidence? No evidence.
21:05 Your Jonah experience? That's right, that's right.
21:07 God is good. Yeah.
21:09 And I think you...
21:10 and I understand and I think this is why
21:11 people misunderstand us, you know, and strong people
21:16 but Dr Lewis was telling me something yesterday or today
21:20 'cause we had Aaron on a program when Dr. Louis
21:23 was interviewing us on Urban Report.
21:25 And she was saying to Aaron that anyone
21:28 that worked diligently in their home doing chores,
21:31 or got jobs and really stayed focused
21:35 became successful.
21:36 And we had to do chores, right? Oh, yeah.
21:39 We did it all. Mom didn't play.
21:40 Mom did not play, old school, you know, give you that look.
21:43 Oh, yeah. You know.
21:45 And I want you to know that my father died
21:47 when I was 13 and my mother had three boys.
21:52 This is your biological or your adopted mom?
21:53 This is my adopted mom, which is my mom.
21:55 Yes, that's true.
21:57 But we had to do work and chores and let me tell you,
22:01 I can so...
22:03 Okay, you put a button? My mother was a seamstress.
22:06 I could sew, I can hem pants, I can sew on button,
22:11 I can iron, I can cook, I can do everything.
22:15 I know you can 'cause I've been to your home.
22:16 My mother raised us to be independent.
22:19 Yes. And that's a good thing.
22:21 How come we don't have a homemade class?
22:23 You know, shall we bring homemade back for boys?
22:24 We need to bring that back.
22:26 We do, remember we had...
22:27 We even had that in public school.
22:29 Yes. I had it in the school.
22:30 You know, we need to bring that back.
22:31 You know, we learnt cooking.
22:33 Manhattan, the boys had to take cooking class.
22:34 And I took workshop on auto mechanics.
22:35 All right, okay. Yes.
22:37 I know how to change a tire
22:38 or change a spark plug, a ride...
22:40 You need to train your daughter.
22:42 Yes, she's going to change some tires too
22:44 because if you...
22:45 Micah too. Yeah, Micah does.
22:47 Micah change...
22:48 Well, you know, your Micah and my Micah.
22:50 Yeah 'cause, you know, when I had my Micah,
22:51 you checked...
22:52 When I heard your daughter's name,
22:54 I was like, "If I ever have a daughter,
22:55 I'm going to name her Micah."
22:57 And you did. I love that name.
22:58 I know. It means like Yahweh, my God.
22:59 Yes it does.
23:01 I said, "Go on, you can borrow the name."
23:02 Yeah. And Micah is beautiful.
23:05 Let's talk about, you know,
23:06 where we get almost four minutes left.
23:10 Your journey with the Lord and you sing
23:14 and you have a beautiful voice.
23:16 And God has given you this voice.
23:20 And every time I hear it,
23:23 it just takes me to another place.
23:26 How and why did you give your talent to the Lord?
23:29 Well, because God has done so much for me.
23:32 He's been with me all my life since the day I was born.
23:36 He's always had his hand on me.
23:38 He's always led me and helped me.
23:40 I've never, never had want for anything
23:43 because God has always supplied all my needs.
23:45 So I can't help but to give back to God.
23:48 And I tell you, this is what I want to say to individuals
23:54 who doubt God.
23:57 Never, never doubt his love. Never.
24:01 Never, never know
24:07 Oh never
24:10 Doubt his love
24:12 Never doubt God's love for you
24:16 When burdens press all about your soul
24:22 And the ways of trouble seem to roar
24:27 Just never, never doubt his love for you.
24:33 Never doubt God's Love.
24:35 You can do anything at any time with God,
24:38 and God has shown me in my life.
24:40 What he can do.
24:41 And I love him so much for and so it's easy to serve Him
24:44 and to do His will.
24:46 I'm so glad that you remained my friend
24:48 after all these years.
24:49 You know, and we even live in the same community.
24:53 Same zip code. Same zip code.
24:54 So we go to the same pole.
24:56 Remember when we were there when President Obama
25:00 became president, we were in line together.
25:02 Singing We Shall Overcome.
25:04 You just kept singing
25:06 and I was leading the whole thing...
25:07 And we didn't care what people thought.
25:09 We did not.
25:10 Then everybody joined in with us.
25:11 And I mean that line wrapped around
25:13 two or three times.
25:14 Yes. That was so amazing.
25:16 And I still supported you for council.
25:18 Yes, you did.
25:20 You wanted to be on the city council.
25:21 But God knew. God knew.
25:22 God knew, you know. Never doubt his love.
25:25 Never doubt his love. I know it was maybe a setback.
25:28 "Oh, I didn't become the council in Detroit City,"
25:31 but God had greater things for you.
25:33 But know why I did not win because they told me Dr. Logan
25:38 did not attend the meetings on Saturday.
25:41 And I told them, "I would not, could not, and will not."
25:44 And they had the Democratic meetings
25:46 on Saturday.
25:47 And so they put it in the Detroit news.
25:49 She was the only one with Ph D, Business owner.
25:53 She wasn't looking for a job
25:55 but because she did not networked
25:58 within the party on Saturday, and her statement was,
26:02 "I am a Seventh-day Adventist."
26:04 Praise God, you are witness for God.
26:06 Yes, and everyone knew no matter what the cause,
26:09 the price, I went, you know,
26:10 the race is not given to the swift or the strong
26:12 but to those who endure to the end
26:14 but I was not going to compromise.
26:17 No regrets. No regrets.
26:18 I have no regrets.
26:19 And then we had a fire on Grand River,
26:21 God moved us here and even with, you know,
26:25 going through what I've gone through with Arthur,
26:27 and I have no regrets because you know why?
26:30 Jesus is coming again.
26:32 Soon and very soon and he will not tarry.
26:34 He will not tarry. I'm just excited.
26:37 Closing remarks,
26:39 Christian Seventh-day Adventist education,
26:41 why do we need to put our children
26:43 in Christian Seventh-day Adventist education?
26:45 Several reasons.
26:47 Number one, Christ is soon to come.
26:48 All the children should be taught of the Lord
26:51 and God wants our children to be taught of the Lord.
26:54 Yes. That's the number one reason.
26:56 The number one reason.
26:58 And so therefore everything that we're doing,
27:00 empowering our children, and we need to have
27:03 our pastors behind our schools.
27:05 We need to get our pastors all on board.
27:07 And we need to, you know,
27:09 make sure that even their children
27:11 are in Christian Seventh-day Adventist education.
27:13 And we have some good pastors there are supporting.
27:15 Oh, yes, we do. But we need more.
27:16 We need more, we do need more, and I support.
27:20 You know, one of the things, you know,
27:21 I had Brandon Den on, senior, and he told Arthur and I,
27:25 "If you want to see your finances grow,
27:28 support Christian Seventh-day Adventist education."
27:30 It's a blessing.
27:31 Some people say that Christian education costs
27:34 but I tell them the benefits pays
27:37 and it's out of this world.
27:38 It's out of this world 'cause when you can really
27:40 make that withdrawal.
27:41 Oh, yeah. Oh, God is good.
27:42 Come on, Esai, you know. Esai Detroit.
27:45 I think we can understand that thing, you know.
27:47 That's right.
27:48 Well, we just want to say thank you
27:50 to Principal Larry keys,
27:51 how God has brought you, my brother.
27:54 And I want to thank you for understanding
27:56 the importance of having no regrets.
27:59 We love you.
28:00 Continue to Live to be Well, I'm Dr Kim.
28:03 God bless.
