00:40 Hello, I'm Wayne Blakely from Coming Out Ministries.
00:43 Welcome to Pure Choices today.
00:46 Joining me today are Michael Carducci,
00:49 my ministry colleague, and Ron Woolsey,
00:52 also a ministry colleague and pastor.
00:55 You know, we want to talk to you today,
00:57 as a viewer who might be wondering
01:00 what's our walk like now,
01:02 since we have been redeemed from homosexuality
01:06 and we're back and we're living in the presence of God,
01:10 what's our day look like and what kind of connection
01:13 do we keep with our Savior Jesus Christ,
01:18 what is, what are our lives looking like in contrast
01:22 to how they used to look like.
01:24 And so, I share this you know,
01:26 wherever I go when I speak in churches, in schools
01:30 about how my life has changed.
01:32 And the only way that change is possible
01:35 is by a concentration on Jesus and on His word.
01:40 So I'm going to open up today a little bit with regards
01:44 to what I do to help me stay in touch with Jesus.
01:48 And that is that I get up early in the morning,
01:52 and I notice that if I don't my days
01:55 a whole lot different than if I do,
01:57 and I try to spend an hour with God in the morning.
02:00 And that's through reading His word
02:03 or sometimes I'll choose to read
02:04 something spiritually influenced.
02:08 And then I'll take time and spend in prayer,
02:10 and not just about things about my own life
02:13 but about my care and my love for others um,
02:16 actually pray for each of you, each day.
02:19 Some people may not realize that
02:20 while we are a ministry together,
02:23 we were divinely intervened with by God.
02:26 But then we were brought together
02:28 by divine appointment
02:29 and we actually reside at different places
02:32 throughout the United States.
02:33 So we're not always in the presence of each other.
02:37 And so the power of prayer is so important in that time
02:40 we are absent from each other.
02:42 And then of course,
02:43 we do get together at times in person
02:46 and on the phone and we're able to pray together
02:50 and share with each other about what God is doing in our lives.
02:54 And I have a special Christian author,
02:58 Ellen White, who has written
03:01 so many things out of such great inspiration.
03:04 And today, I have not only
03:06 a full time ministry but I also work
03:09 in the public sector full time as well.
03:12 And there are times when I have come home from work and.
03:17 I have been just, you know,
03:18 really worn down from all the things
03:21 that I'm doing at work and maybe in planning
03:24 and things that are going on in ministry as well.
03:26 But if I let go of that relationship that
03:29 I'm having or have had with Jesus,
03:32 I know that my life is going to do deteriorate rapidly.
03:36 So I'm so glad that we have things
03:39 like the internet and computers today
03:41 because I turn around and I've done this.
03:44 I've gone to the book, Steps To Christ by Ellen White,
03:47 and there's a chapter, Chapter 7
03:50 on the test of discipleship.
03:53 And I let that whole chapter play
03:57 while I'm falling to sleep.
03:58 And one of the, my favorite references
04:02 plays over and over and over
04:04 and I never get tired of hearing it.
04:06 And so I just wanted to share that today.
04:10 And it says, "Those who become new creatures in Christ Jesus
04:15 will bring forth the fruits
04:17 of the Spirit, love, joy, peace."
04:23 Oops. Long-suffering.
04:25 Oh, is that a misprint? Right.
04:27 You know, I like to share that with people
04:29 because who would ever think
04:31 that long-suffering is supposed to be a fruit.
04:33 I mean, isn't, oh, wait a minute,
04:35 is it that the streets of gold are in heaven and not earth,
04:38 is that right?
04:39 So sometimes down here
04:41 the terrain may be a little rocky
04:43 but that doesn't mean that God isn't there by our side
04:45 or carrying us through something.
04:48 "Gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance,"
04:53 as stated in Galatians 5:22-23.
04:56 And she says, "They will no longer fashion themselves
04:59 according to their former lust,
05:02 but by the faith of the Son of God
05:04 they will follow in his steps, reflect his character
05:08 and purify themselves as he is pure.
05:13 The things they once hated they now love,
05:17 and the things they once loved, they now hate."
05:21 Amen. That's powerful.
05:22 It is so powerful because I have found
05:24 that my life has done, you know, 180
05:28 and it's so true that the things that
05:31 I found myself doing in idle time,
05:35 I used to go in search of men to satisfy my flesh,
05:42 and today, I'm looking for Jesus to satisfy
05:45 the spirit of my life with his Holy Spirit.
05:49 And so I want to ask you guys today,
05:52 you know, Mike, tell me a little bit about what your,
05:56 your walk is like with God today in contrast
05:59 to how it used to be.
06:01 Well, I'd say the number one thing
06:04 that has changed for me
06:06 is recognizing the intimacy that I need.
06:09 I was so broken from intimacy in my own life,
06:13 it was from the rejection at the, at a time
06:15 when I wasn't even conscious, and I never realized
06:18 how that not only got in the way
06:20 of my casual relationships
06:23 but certainly even the relationships
06:25 that I was in, you know, even with men
06:27 while I was in the gay lifestyle.
06:29 What I realize now is that
06:31 until I acknowledge the personal relationship
06:37 that Jesus wants with me,
06:38 it doesn't have much of an application.
06:40 I could read the words and like you,
06:42 you know, the worship time is the fullest for me
06:45 because when I remember that Jesus wants to be my friend,
06:49 when I realize that Jesus wants
06:51 to be a part of every aspect of my life,
06:54 then I start to realize that I can trust him
06:56 because of the path that we've been walking on.
06:59 And it was rough at first and pretty messy.
07:02 But what I recognize now is that He's my encourager.
07:05 He's not the one that tells me the lies
07:08 that I'm not accepted or that I'm not worthy,
07:11 which are the old tapes that I've heard.
07:13 And so when I realize the level of intimacy
07:15 that He wants, when I don't have that,
07:18 all of this separation comes in,
07:20 the loneliness, the despair,
07:22 and so it helps me to keep in check,
07:25 am I being real, am I being authentic.
07:28 And that to me has been something that has grown.
07:32 And even as a little child, you know, doesn't necessarily,
07:36 you know, run until they learn to walk.
07:37 I'm recognizing that I was so stunted
07:40 in that ability to recognize intimacy
07:43 that He's been with me on that journey to show me
07:46 how much He really does care and the level that He wants.
07:49 You know, I wake up in the morning
07:50 and before I even open up the word
07:52 I'm already talking to Jesus.
07:54 I'm asking Him to help me with the things
07:56 that are already pressing upon my mind when I wake up,
07:59 as well as when I go to bed at night.
08:00 I've actually had the conversation
08:03 where I said, "Lord, if this is the best
08:05 it's ever going to be, I'm okay."
08:08 Because I have satisfaction, I have that level of intimacy
08:11 that's enough to take me through,
08:13 you know, until things change.
08:14 So if God has something more I'm open, but I'm content.
08:18 For the first time in my life I'm actually content
08:20 with where we're at as long as I'm abiding in that love
08:25 because it really does satisfy me.
08:27 I know also for me one of the things
08:29 I recognize is I'd spent 16 years
08:32 as an aerobic instructor and totally feeding the flesh
08:35 and wearing a piece of Lycra like
08:37 maybe about that big as I was--
08:38 Teach my classes, I realized that I didn't understand
08:42 the value of the physical body.
08:44 And as I started to realize
08:46 about how temptation for me was visual,
08:49 the Lord started to show me that by covering up more,
08:52 by you know, being more modest
08:55 with the way that I dress and not flaunting,
08:57 you know, the flesh, if you would,
08:58 I started to see my body as something different.
09:01 And the other tools that I was able to gain
09:03 were things like cleaning up my diet,
09:06 getting into exercise more
09:08 because each one of the laws of health
09:10 actually assist me in the strength
09:12 that I need to receive from the Holy Spirit.
09:14 So the cleaner I recognize that this body is,
09:17 if it's the temple of the Holy Spirit,
09:19 the more I prepare it
09:21 for an opportunity to receive more.
09:23 I've understood more
09:25 of the Holy Spirit's speaking to me
09:27 and I've actually been able to gain access to information
09:30 that I wouldn't have had otherwise.
09:32 And that has proved to be a very powerful tool
09:34 for me as well.
09:36 Wow. Absolutely.
09:37 You know, one of the things that I pray about is,
09:41 each day is that I ask that God will help me
09:44 fall in love with Him more and more each day.
09:48 And you have been numerous times
09:51 an inspiration to me.
09:58 There are times when the struggle
10:00 can get a little rough, our feelings can come play
10:03 the bad tapes and it can be painful.
10:07 I have recently had some experience
10:10 where I didn't feel God's presence
10:13 but you have helped me remind that God is definitely present,
10:18 and to acknowledge God's presence
10:21 and His influence in my life even when I don't feel it.
10:24 We lift each other up. We do.
10:26 And so that's the kind of relationship
10:28 that God wants to wire us with,
10:31 with same gendered relationships today
10:33 rather than one being lustful but one of being of the spirit,
10:37 of the Holy Spirit in lifting each other
10:40 for healing in Jesus Christ
10:41 and helping each other with our daily walk with God.
10:44 And so, I want to point out here that
10:46 not only is our time important to be spent with God each day,
10:51 but that you involve yourself with your Christian community.
10:55 And don't, don't maybe look at, at churches becoming a routine
11:02 or something that we get into the habit of
11:05 but that we begin to find actual involvement in,
11:11 with other Christians.
11:13 And one of those things that I do
11:15 is by getting involved with a small community group.
11:18 And since I was baptized and came back to God,
11:21 I meet with this group weekly
11:23 and they are members of the church
11:25 but we get together throughout
11:28 between one Sabbath and the next.
11:31 We get together for a meal, we pray together,
11:34 we study together, and we lift each other up,
11:36 we have a confidentiality agreement.
11:39 So I know that the things that I'm sharing in this group,
11:43 you know, aren't just being spread church wide,
11:46 this is an intimate group of believers
11:48 who have who continually lift me up
11:51 and I lift them up.
11:52 And we've done this for the last four years.
11:54 It's just an amazing experience.
11:56 So that brings completion
11:58 to the whole picture of the relationship
12:01 with Jesus Christ in my life and Him today.
12:03 And your Bible study is a place where you feel safe, right.
12:06 Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely.
12:08 Now, Ron, you know you have written some things
12:11 and you have done this on your website
12:14 and in a book that you've written
12:16 and you talk about the Rainbow of God's Promises.
12:21 Can you tell me what that's been like for you
12:23 and could you share some of those promises with us?
12:26 Yes, this is something that's very important to me
12:28 and in reference to the book,
12:30 the last chapter of that book is called
12:32 You Too Can Be Made Whole.
12:35 And that whole chapter is about what we're talking about today,
12:38 tools for victory, to lead us to victory
12:43 and to sustain us in victory.
12:45 And we all have a commonality in this.
12:48 I mean, we share the same tools
12:51 I mean, in talking to each other,
12:53 we know we have the same methods here.
12:55 Right.
12:56 And of course, we're each talking about
12:58 different aspects and different wants,
13:01 this Rainbow Of Promises for me has been so helpful
13:05 because we are told in the Philippines 2:5,
13:08 "Let this mind be in you,
13:10 which was also in Christ Jesus."
13:12 Is that possible?
13:13 So how do we let this mind, of course, it's possible.
13:16 If it says let it, that means allow it.
13:19 That's right. I've experienced that.
13:20 Right. So how do we allow it?
13:23 Well, then we have to read His mind.
13:27 And how do we read His mind?
13:28 Well, He spelled it out in His word.
13:31 And so what I did in this Rainbow Of Promises,
13:33 I've collected a whole compilation
13:36 of power packed promises
13:39 because there's power in the word.
13:42 I believe, you know, this power in the word
13:46 "For he spake, and it was done,
13:48 he commanded, and it stood fast,"
13:49 you know, "By the word of the Lord
13:51 were the heavens made."
13:52 The powerful word, and that's revealed to us.
13:55 And so if we let this mind be in us,
13:57 which was also in Christ Jesus,
13:58 I started reading some of these promises and I use them.
14:03 For example, Romans 12:1 tells us
14:06 and I think this is very applicable to us
14:10 in our experience where Paul says,
14:12 "Present your bodies a living sacrifice."
14:16 So to do that, we have to have things in proper perspective.
14:20 God is on the throne.
14:22 Love Him supremely,
14:23 that's the first in great commandments.
14:25 Amen.
14:26 Our neighbors as ourselves, we put ourselves last.
14:28 And so to do that we do have to present our bodies
14:33 anything that conflicts with God
14:35 on the throne, we sacrifice it.
14:37 Yes.
14:38 Easily said, not easy, so easily done.
14:41 Okay, all right. But doable, none the less.
14:43 And then the very next verse says,
14:45 "And be not conformed to this world
14:47 but be ye transformed."
14:49 How? "By the renewing of your mind."
14:51 And here we go right back to let this mind be in you,
14:54 "That ye may approve what is that good,
14:56 and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
14:58 So these are types of verses and there are so many of them
15:01 that are so powerful.
15:04 Another, for example,
15:06 in studying about Jesus himself.
15:08 Hebrews 4, "He was tempted in all points like as we are,
15:11 yet without sin."
15:12 Hebrews 2, "He suffered being tempted."
15:15 Hebrews 12, "He resisted unto blood striving against sin."
15:21 So that helped me understand
15:22 that even Jesus knows our struggle
15:25 and with that, then there's 1 Corinthians 10:13
15:28 that tells us "There has no temptation taken you
15:33 but such as is common to man."
15:35 We tend to put this thing about homosexuality up
15:38 as this huge mountain that is insurmountable.
15:42 And God, the Paul says,
15:44 oh, don't be so fool of yourself, you know.
15:48 That's just, that's right.
15:50 This is common to man
15:51 but "God is faithful who will not suffer
15:54 you to be tempted above that you are able
15:58 but will with the temptation
16:00 also make a way to escape that ye may be able to bear it."
16:03 Praise God.
16:05 So in all of these promises, Mike, and Wayne,
16:07 what we see is God's grace is sufficient.
16:11 What ever we have to deal with from day to day,
16:15 His strength is made perfect in our weakness, there is,
16:19 you know, there are plenty of tools to work with.
16:21 Yeah.
16:22 You know, I think it's so important to remember
16:25 and you know, no matter how many times
16:27 you get the reminder,
16:28 we tend to keep forgetting just as many times
16:31 but it is a, making this decision isn't something
16:36 that just comes through feelings again.
16:39 You know, a faith experiences often lack of feeling.
16:43 It's a "Thus saith the Lord." He said it and so I believe it.
16:47 That pinches a little. Yeah.
16:50 And you know, I remind myself too
16:52 that Jesus was definitely tempted
16:55 and He had some frustrating moments, like,
16:57 when he was in Gethsemane
16:59 and nobody would stay up in His deep darkest hour,
17:03 they wouldn't stay up and pray with Him.
17:06 And even on the cross as He hung there,
17:09 you know, He was calling upon His Father.
17:11 You know, could this cup be passed some way, you know.
17:16 Three times, Wayne. There was such great darkness.
17:19 But who was closest to Him in that darkness
17:23 when He couldn't feel?
17:24 His father. Wayne, I so identify with that.
17:28 In the in the book Desire Of Ages,
17:30 it talks about how God's presence
17:32 was right beside His son in that black darkness.
17:35 The quote even says that
17:37 God makes His pavilion darkness.
17:39 So while the sun was on the cross,
17:41 suffering and dying because of our sins,
17:44 God couldn't let Him know that He was there.
17:45 But I love how she describes that moment
17:48 because the angels and God were right beside His son
17:51 and He covered the cross,
17:52 because He couldn't allow people to see
17:54 His shame and suffering anymore.
17:56 But while Jesus was on the cross,
17:58 His Father was right beside Him.
17:59 And I take great courage from that
18:01 thinking about the times
18:02 when my life is at its darkest and,
18:05 and I can't see the way out,
18:06 and I don't know how God's going to deliver it.
18:09 But when I think about that moment
18:10 when He was beside the cross,
18:12 I also think about the fact that I can claim that as well.
18:15 One of the verses that really helped me
18:18 especially, you know, when I fallen
18:20 is the one Isaiah 49:25 that says,
18:22 "I will contend with him that contends with you."
18:26 And then in Ministry of Healing it says,
18:28 "Let these souls in their helpless,
18:30 unworthiness cast themselves upon the mercy
18:33 of their compassionate Savior.
18:34 Don't look at yourself but look to Christ."
18:37 And it goes on to say, "Then grasp His promises
18:40 as leaves from the tree of life.
18:42 He that comes to me I will never cast out.
18:45 As you come to Him believe that He accepts you
18:48 because He has promised.
18:50 And as you do this, you can never perish, never."
18:54 And I love how she puts the emphasis on never.
18:57 And if I've fallen, you know, I catch myself at that point
19:01 where I feel like God has rejected me
19:03 and there's no way that He could take me back,
19:05 this quote helps me to identify again
19:07 not to trust in the feelings or the lies that are coming
19:10 but to recognize by the Word of God
19:12 that I have a right to go.
19:13 Because Jesus has already suffered in my behalf
19:16 and every sin has been accomplished on the cross.
19:19 Yeah.
19:20 It's such a powerful inspiration
19:22 that comes from His word and from the writings
19:27 of spiritually inspired individuals.
19:31 Ron, you had another promise
19:33 I think that you wanted to share.
19:35 Yes. And actually there are two.
19:38 And these are so pertinent to people
19:42 that came from where we came from.
19:45 Because you know, a big part of the homosexual life
19:48 is fantasizing, imagining,
19:51 and getting all worked up through that.
19:55 And Paul addresses that in 2 Corinthians 10:5
19:59 when he says, "Casting down imaginations."
20:01 In other words, we can stop those fantasies,
20:05 we can stop thinking in that direction.
20:08 "Casting down imaginations,
20:09 and every high thing
20:11 that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God,
20:14 and bringing into captivity every thought
20:18 to the obedience of Christ."
20:20 We, I mean, just the word tells us
20:23 and we know if God says it then it's doable.
20:27 We can bring our thoughts into captivity,
20:30 we can train our thinking.
20:32 And we do that by supplanting
20:35 those bad thoughts with good thoughts
20:38 and primarily through the word of God.
20:40 And then this one other passage
20:42 that is I think is so important to us
20:45 on a daily basis and I know we practiced this.
20:47 We, I've heard you talk about it,
20:49 and Mike, you talk about it.
20:51 And it's in James 4:7-8,
20:55 "Submit yourselves therefore, to God."
20:58 Daily, "Submit yourselves therefore to God,
21:01 resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
21:06 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you."
21:10 But then he goes on to say,
21:12 "Cleanse your hands, ye sinners,
21:14 and purify your hearts, ye double minded."
21:17 So there is a work for us to do.
21:18 As we submit to God, we resist the devil,
21:22 and we start practicing Holy living.
21:26 We put aside the practices that were offensive to God,
21:30 that are offensive to God,
21:31 we cleanse our hands and purify our hearts.
21:33 Right.
21:35 You know, again this is it's a faith walk,
21:37 you know, there are a lot of people today
21:38 in the world would go,
21:40 "Why are you guys putting yourself through this?"
21:42 But you know, our hope comes through Jesus Christ.
21:45 And if you believe in the hope in Jesus Christ,
21:48 you know what a life he has there for you
21:51 if you will abide in Him
21:52 and seek to do His will instead of your own.
21:55 That's why it's about self-denial,
21:58 it's about self-sacrifice and giving yourself over to Him
22:01 rather than giving yourself over to the world.
22:03 When I hear that verse I frequently hear people go,
22:07 "Yeah, that's right, resist the devil."
22:10 But what they often don't remember
22:12 is the submit part where He's asking for us
22:17 to submit ourselves to Him
22:19 because that's where the power comes from.
22:21 And once we've submitted ourselves to Him,
22:24 then He gives us the strength
22:25 and the power to resist the devil
22:28 and the devil will flee from us.
22:30 You know, Wayne, that word submit to me,
22:33 the word that I can actually put in there
22:35 that really identifies
22:36 or I identify with is really don't resist.
22:40 Well, liked to submit sounds so humiliating to me
22:44 and not that it's wrong but the word
22:46 that really makes it viable for me is Mike,
22:49 just stop resisting Me, and give Me permission
22:52 and then incredible things happen.
22:54 And I have a thought on that too
22:56 because in our humanity,
22:58 for a little while, at least we're lower than the angels.
23:01 Satan is an angel. Right.
23:03 We are no match in our humanity for the supernatural.
23:07 That's right.
23:08 But God is divine and Satan is no match for Him.
23:12 That's right.
23:14 So if we in our humanity reach around
23:15 and grasp the hand of divinity,
23:18 we become connected to that divinity
23:22 and Satan is no match, that's why it's important.
23:24 Submit yourself therefore to God,
23:27 grasp His hand, then resist the devil
23:30 and he will flee, why?
23:32 Because the bully is no longer
23:34 the big guy on the playing ground,
23:36 on the playground
23:37 when you're holding the hand of daddy.
23:39 That's right. So that's why...
23:42 And the devil is defeated. Yes, right.
23:43 Now as a viewer I think that you can right about
23:46 now begin to see how a transformation
23:50 is beginning to take place in our lives.
23:52 See, the transformation isn't just when Jesus comes
23:56 and takes us to heaven,
23:57 it's actually beginning to take place right here on earth.
24:01 And one of my favorite quotes comes out,
24:04 again, of the Desire Of Ages
24:06 written by Ellen White on page 658,
24:12 and she says, "All true obedience
24:15 comes from the heart.
24:17 It was heart work with Christ.
24:20 And if we consent,
24:22 He will so identify Himself with our thoughts and aims,
24:27 so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to His will
24:32 that when obeying Him we shall be
24:34 but carrying out our own impulses.
24:37 The will refined and sanctified
24:40 will find its highest delight in doing His service.
24:45 When we know God
24:47 as it is our privilege to know Him,
24:49 our life will be a life of continual obedience.
24:54 Through an appreciation of the character of Christ,
24:58 through communion with God sin will become hateful to us."
25:03 Praise God. Amen.
25:05 So I think that that's,
25:07 again, this is this is the transformation
25:09 that's taking place as we spend each and every day
25:12 searching the scriptures and reading
25:14 and being inspired by God and by His writers.
25:20 Life looks a lot different today
25:22 than it used to, doesn't it?
25:23 Well, the tsunami of sin that used to just overtake me,
25:28 you know, God has shown me that that by exercising our muscles,
25:31 they become stronger.
25:33 So by exercising the faith muscle,
25:35 when temptation comes up instead of letting it slime me,
25:38 and those around me, what I'm learning is that
25:41 as I exercise that faith muscle to take the temptation
25:44 and to send it up,
25:46 and give it to the one who can handle it,
25:47 as you were demonstrating,
25:49 then what's happening is I'm learning
25:51 that process of giving it to God
25:54 so that it doesn't slime me.
25:55 And now what used to be the tsunami is a net
25:57 that I can swat out of the way.
25:59 And so I had no idea that the pressure would be lifted
26:03 and that I would actually experience
26:05 that kind of freedom.
26:06 That's right.
26:07 So if you are viewing
26:09 and you've seen this as a daunting sin
26:12 or attraction that has hung over you,
26:15 hope for homosexuality, yes,
26:17 but if you're looking at other sin temptations in our lives,
26:22 what would you say to the viewer
26:23 that would help them engage in making the first step
26:29 with a new life with Jesus Christ?
26:32 Well, there has to be that recognition of a need.
26:36 That's why we only acknowledge.
26:38 See, all of my years in the world saying,
26:41 God made me this way, I was born this way,
26:44 my daddy did this, that man did that,
26:46 and blame, blame, blame, I was justifying myself.
26:50 And as long as I was justifying myself,
26:52 God could not justify me.
26:55 I had to get to the point where I said,
26:56 you know, I have some responsibility here.
26:59 Yes, I was a victim but I also made bad choices.
27:04 And so when I started acknowledging
27:05 the role I played in my situation,
27:09 that's when God steps in and says, now I can heal.
27:12 If you acknowledge that
27:13 what you're dealing with is a sin issue,
27:15 He has a remedy for sin,
27:17 but not for an acceptable, alternative lifestyle.
27:20 That's right. He has a remedy for sin.
27:22 So I think probably the first step,
27:24 one of the first steps is to acknowledge
27:27 that this is a sin issue
27:28 and turn it over to God because He came,
27:31 gave His son to save us from our sins.
27:33 That's right.
27:35 But I think that you've seen prove here
27:37 today that these are three changed lives.
27:40 And so, once again, thank you for joining us on Pure Choices.
27:45 Thank you for tuning in today
27:48 and God bless you wherever you are.
27:52 Realize that God is there for you.
