00:01 Welcome to Your Favorites By Request with me, Tim Parton.
00:04 You sent me your favorite songs
00:07 and I'm ready to play while you sing along.
00:10 And if you don't remember all the words,
00:12 don't worry, they're on the screen.
00:15 And now Your Favorites By Request.
00:17 Your Favorites By Request
00:20 La-la-la
00:24 La-la-la.
00:26 Welcome to the program.
00:28 Thanks for watching.
00:30 John Lomacang is again joining me,
00:32 it's always such an honor to have you with me.
00:34 Praise the Lord.
00:36 And we sing those songs
00:37 that have been the foundation of our walk with Christ
00:39 for so many years.
00:40 Amen. Amen.
00:42 You know, some writers are encouraged
00:45 by different things.
00:47 You know, there are different points of inspiration
00:48 that inspire writers to write their songs,
00:51 and those who like to write about nature.
00:55 Those are some beautiful songs.
00:56 I love being outdoors.
00:58 In fact, we're, kind of, in a time
01:00 of where we're maybe forced into our homes,
01:03 and some social distancing became the norm.
01:08 And I took advantage,
01:09 I just recently moved into a little house
01:11 and have a little yard and I bought
01:13 or actually a friend gave me which is, was great.
01:17 I think it was Trek,
01:18 gave me one of these motorless lawn mowers,
01:22 the real lawn mowers...
01:23 Oh, you're talking about the ones that spin?
01:25 Right, when we were a kid,
01:26 my grandparents had one on their farm,
01:28 and it was more fun when I was a kid.
01:31 Right.
01:32 But in fact, this one has a grass catcher.
01:35 And so, I have to like every seven steps,
01:37 I have to empty it.
01:39 So this, a couple days, I was just not working.
01:44 And I mowed the yard like
01:46 oh, like four times actually in two days.
01:49 I mowed it because I was trying to get
01:50 the right distance for the right height comfort
01:53 to get it figured out.
01:56 And I think that the neighbors became suspicious
01:59 'cause they weren't sure
02:01 why I was mowing my yard so many times
02:02 or they were gonna call the police on me
02:05 and have me committed.
02:06 I haven't seen one of those mowers
02:08 in a long time,
02:09 the little circular with these twisted blades.
02:11 Right.
02:12 But you know as much as I love creation,
02:15 I love the Creator.
02:16 I love knowing that I know the Creator.
02:18 Amen.
02:19 So I have a good time singing this first song,
02:23 first request.
02:25 And it's a popular song, I love the great hymn,
02:28 "Fairest Lord Jesus."
02:29 Amen.
02:35 Sing it with us.
02:37 Fairest Lord Jesus
02:42 Ruler of all nature
02:46 O thou of God and man
02:52 The Son
02:55 Thee will I cherish
03:00 Thee will I honor
03:04 Thou art my glory Joy
03:08 And crown
03:12 Fair are the meadows
03:16 Fairer still the woodlands
03:20 Robed in the blooming Garb
03:26 Of spring
03:29 Jesus is fairer
03:34 Jesus is purer
03:38 Who makes the woeful Heart
03:42 To sing
03:44 You sing at home. Fair is the sunshine.
03:47 Fair is the sunshine
03:52 Fairer still the moonlight
03:56 And all the twinkling
04:01 Starry host
04:06 Jesus shines brighter
04:10 Jesus shines purer
04:15 Than all the angels
04:18 Heaven can boast
04:25 Beautiful Savior!
04:30 Lord of the nations
04:35 Son of God
04:38 And Son of Man
04:44 Glory and Honor
04:49 Praise, Adoration
04:53 Now and forevermore
04:58 Be Thine
05:04 I love that. Amen.
05:06 You know, when I'm singing that,
05:07 I'm thinking of nature.
05:09 I'm singing in Colorado,
05:10 I'm seeing the mountains of California,
05:12 the little hills of Illinois,
05:15 the Garden of the Gods,
05:16 let me bring us in here somehow.
05:18 Yes, right.
05:19 But God has to be and as old as the world is,
05:21 there's still this beauty that returns every spring.
05:24 Hmm, isn't that true?
05:26 When the flowers start coming around,
05:27 like you talk about mowing your lawn,
05:29 I gotta soon mow my lawn.
05:32 But when you look at creation,
05:34 God has kept the cycle going to remind us,
05:37 that the flowers show up not
05:38 because we have told them
05:40 it's time to come out of the ground.
05:41 But God has so beautifully created the world
05:45 that it knows when the seasons come
05:47 and the seasons go.
05:49 They peek out their heads,
05:50 they paint our horizon and then they go
05:53 and take a rest for the winter only to come back.
05:56 And only fairest Lord Jesus can do that.
05:57 Yeah.
05:59 And just to think that God did that
06:00 all in a word.
06:01 He spoke it into beings, spoke it into existence,
06:04 set it in motion and it's like one and done,
06:06 just let it go.
06:08 That's right.
06:09 And yet He takes care of it and He takes care of us,
06:12 His children, just like He says in His Word
06:15 that If he cares for the sparrow,
06:17 then we don't need to worry about ourselves
06:20 in times of trouble, and you know what?
06:24 I want to be drawn closer to somebody like that.
06:27 That's right.
06:29 Because I want to know that I'm in good hands.
06:33 And I can know that I'm,
06:34 for sure I'm in good hands if God is my father.
06:38 And so this next request is actually "Draw Me Near."
06:44 So I think that, let's just sing this.
06:46 Okay? That's right.
07:00 I am Thine, O Lord
07:04 I have heard Thy voice
07:07 And it told Thy love to me
07:14 But I long to rise
07:18 In the arms of faith
07:21 And be closer drawn to Thee
07:27 So draw me nearer
07:32 Nearer blessed Lord
07:35 To the cross
07:37 Where Thou hast died
07:42 Draw me nearer
07:47 Nearer blessed Lord
07:51 To Thy precious
07:54 Bleeding side
07:57 Tim, let sing this one.
07:59 Consecrate me now
08:02 To Thy service, Lord
08:06 By the power of grace divine
08:12 May my soul look up
08:16 With a steadfast hope
08:19 And my will be lost in Thine
08:26 Draw me nearer
08:31 Nearer blessed Lord
08:33 To the cross
08:35 Where Thou hast died
08:41 Draw me nearer
08:45 Nearer blessed Lord
08:50 To Thy precious
08:53 Bleeding side
08:59 O the pure delight
09:03 In a single hour
09:07 That before
09:10 Thy throne I spend
09:15 When I kneel in prayer
09:19 And with Thee, my God
09:23 I commune
09:26 As friend with friend
09:31 So draw me nearer
09:36 Nearer blessed Lord
09:39 To the cross
09:41 Where Thou hast died
09:46 Draw me nearer
09:51 Nearer blessed Lord
09:56 To Thy precious
09:59 Bleeding side
10:05 To Thy precious
10:09 Bleeding side
10:17 Boy, I love that.
10:19 Sweet. That's precious song. Praise the Lord.
10:20 That was written by Fanny Crosby,
10:22 who never saw the beauty of creation.
10:27 And yet the inspiration that she had
10:30 to write the songs
10:32 that draw us close to God and it's just amazing.
10:36 There's another song that was a request.
10:38 And it's not one of her
10:40 more necessarily familiar songs,
10:42 but it's "Take the World but Give Me Jesus."
10:46 And I'm just going to play a verse and a chorus of it
10:49 right out of the hymnal and so it goes like this.
11:35 And we'll be right back after this.
11:40 Tim.
11:42 Welcome back.
11:43 Hope you're ready to sing again.
11:44 John, do you remember
11:46 what you were doing as a teenager?
11:48 Wow!
11:49 I was really not writing hymns.
11:53 I was playing basketball.
11:56 I was just riding bicycles, just living the teenager life.
12:01 Sure, right.
12:02 You know, it was obviously before the internet.
12:05 We lived more outdoors basketball, baseball.
12:09 You know, there's a game in New York
12:10 they called Skully
12:11 where you play with a soda bottle tops,
12:13 spinning tops.
12:14 Yeah.
12:15 But it's interesting, it tell us about
12:17 what's behind this hymn.
12:18 Well, this, just briefly the kid who wrote it
12:22 was like 16 years old and wrote this song
12:25 just upon his conversion to Christ, to Christianity.
12:30 And it's been, this was back in the 1700s.
12:34 So it's a beautiful song, "My Jesus, I love Thee."
12:52 My Jesus, I love Thee
12:57 I know Thou art mine
13:02 For Thee all the follies of sin
13:09 I resign
13:12 My gracious Redeemer
13:17 My Savior art Thou
13:23 If ever I loved Thee
13:28 My Jesus, 'tis now
13:34 You sing it, John.
13:36 I love Thee because Thou
13:42 Hast first loved me
13:47 And purchased my pardon
13:53 On Calvary's tree
13:58 I love Thee for wearing
14:04 The thorns on Thy brow
14:10 If ever I loved Thee
14:16 My Jesus, 'tis now
14:22 Now you sing at home.
15:08 In mansions of glory
15:14 And endless delight
15:19 I'll ever adore Thee
15:25 In heaven so bright
15:30 I'll sing with the glittering
15:37 Crown on my brow
15:43 If ever I loved Thee
15:49 My Jesus
15:53 'Tis now
16:08 King of my life
16:11 I crown thee now
16:15 Thine shall the glory be
16:22 Lest I forget
16:24 Thy thorn crowned brow
16:28 Lead me to Calvary
16:35 Lest I forget Gethsemane
16:42 Lest I forget
16:45 Thine agony
16:49 Lest I forget
16:52 Thy love for me
16:57 Lead me
16:58 To Calvary
17:03 Nice.
17:05 Show me the tomb
17:07 Where Thou wast laid
17:11 Tenderly mourned and wept
17:17 Angels in robes Of light arrayed
17:24 Guarded Thee whilst Thou slept
17:31 Lest I forget Gethsemane
17:37 Lest I forget
17:39 Thine agony
17:43 Lest I forget Thy love for me
17:50 Lead me to Calvary
17:56 Sing it, John.
17:58 Let me like Mary
18:01 Through the gloom
18:04 Come with a gift to Thee
18:11 Show to me now
18:14 The empty tomb
18:18 Lead me to Calvary
18:25 Lest I forget Gethsemane
18:31 Lest I forget
18:34 Thine agony
18:39 Lest I forget
18:41 Thy love for me
18:46 Lead me to Calvary
18:52 And I like this verse.
18:54 May I be willing,
18:57 Lord, to bear
19:00 Daily my cross for Thee
19:06 Even Thy cup of grief to share
19:13 For Thou hast borne all for me
19:18 You sing it, John.
19:20 Lest I forget Gethsemane
19:26 Lest I forget
19:29 Thine agony
19:33 Lest I forget
19:35 Thy love for me
19:40 Lead me to Calvary
19:53 Amen. Beautiful song.
19:55 You know, sometimes it's, it's not hard
19:57 to sometimes allow things to lead us to forget.
20:02 And I was thinking the other day
20:03 about the difference
20:04 between religion and Christianity.
20:07 Right.
20:08 And I thought one was, religion is observance,
20:12 but Christianity was intended by Christ to be commitment.
20:16 I was thinking about the difference
20:18 between membership and discipleship.
20:20 Yeah.
20:21 And I thought membership, wow, that sounds like,
20:23 you know, I have a membership at the exercise club.
20:25 I have a membership at the golf, Global Golf Club.
20:28 I have a membership, you know, at the,
20:30 you know, the sporting goods store.
20:32 Do I need a membership at the church too
20:34 or is there any different?
20:36 We just sign up for membership,
20:37 but discipleship is something altogether different.
20:40 And I think this,
20:41 that song is about discipleship,
20:43 lest I forget.
20:44 And the Lord said,
20:45 you know, "If anyone will be My disciple,
20:47 let him deny himself
20:49 and take up his cross and follow Me."
20:50 So that song was so fitting.
20:52 Disciples should never forget
20:55 because the cross was the value
20:58 that the Lord placed on our head.
21:00 I mean, think about that.
21:01 The cross is an expression of that great value.
21:05 And how much was God willing to pay for us?
21:08 The cross says it all. Right. It does.
21:10 But what does the cross do for us?
21:12 It cleans us from where we were,
21:16 and makes us...
21:17 Whiter than snow.
21:25 Sing, if you wanna sing this?
21:31 Lord Jesus
21:33 I long to be perfectly whole
21:39 I want Thee forever
21:43 To live in my soul
21:46 Break down every idol
21:51 Cast out every foe
21:55 Now wash me
21:57 And I shall be
22:00 Whiter than snow
22:05 Whiter than snow
22:08 Yes, whiter than snow
22:13 Now wash me
22:15 And I shall be
22:18 Whiter than snow
22:48 Whiter than snow.
22:50 Whiter than snow
22:54 Yes, whiter than snow
22:58 Now wash me
23:00 And I shall be
23:03 Whiter than snow.
23:06 Lord Jesus.
23:08 Lord Jesus, for this
23:11 I most humbly entreat
23:15 I wait, blessed Lord
23:18 At Thy crucified feet
23:22 By faith, for my cleansing
23:26 I see Thy blood flow
23:29 Now wash me
23:31 And I shall be
23:33 Whiter than snow
23:38 Whiter than snow
23:41 Yes, whiter than snow
23:45 Now wash me
23:48 And I shall be
23:51 Whiter than snow.
23:54 There is one more verse, I believe.
23:57 Lord Jesus Thou seest
24:01 I patiently wait
24:05 Come now, and within me
24:09 A new heart create
24:13 To those who have sought
24:18 Thee Thou never said No
24:23 Now wash me
24:25 And I shall be
24:28 Whiter than snow
24:33 Whiter than snow
24:36 Yes, whiter than snow
24:40 Now wash me
24:42 And I shall be
24:46 Whiter than snow.
24:54 Amen.
24:56 And snow is white.
24:57 Yeah, snow is white, yes.
24:59 And we haven't seen snow in a while
25:00 actually the good snow.
25:02 Oh, no.
25:03 And white is the color, right?
25:05 You led me right into that, didn't you?
25:07 So, in fact, for Evelyn we have just a real quick
25:10 maybe a verse and a chorus,
25:12 for Evelyn from Newport, New Hampshire.
25:14 I want to sing this song. Let's see.
25:18 On the wings Of a Snow white dove
25:23 He sends his pure sweet love
25:27 A sign from above A sign from above
25:31 On the wings of a dove
25:35 When troubles surround us
25:39 When evils come
25:44 The body grows weak
25:48 And the spirit grows numb
25:52 When these things beset us
25:56 He doesn't forget us
26:00 He sends down His love
26:04 On the wings of a dove
26:08 On the wings Of a Snow white dove
26:13 He sends his pure sweet love
26:17 A sign from above
26:21 On the wings of a dove
26:25 When Noah had drifted
26:29 On the flood many days
26:33 He searched for land
26:37 In various ways
26:42 Troubles, he had some
26:45 But he wasn't forgotten
26:49 For God sent him his love
26:53 On the wings of a dove
27:01 That's good.
27:07 Send me a song
27:09 Then you sing along with me
27:18 Your Favorites By Request
27:21 La, la, la
27:24 La, la, la.
