00:49 Good evening once again and welcome to 3ABN's
00:53 Fall Camp Meeting: Homecoming 2017. 00:56 Every time Irma and I look at 00:58 that open we have to smile 'cause that's our family there 01:01 and those children have grown up 01:03 just a little bit since that was shot. 01:05 And it's amazing to see them grow. 01:08 That little girl that turned around in the car 01:09 is now driving a car. 01:13 So it's very very funny to sort of look back and take 01:15 a trip in the mind back. But we welcome you 01:18 to sadly the last presentation 01:20 for this particular Camp Meeting. 01:24 Some years ago I was sitting in the church 01:26 at Southern University, and after the sermon was 01:30 over a couple came to me and they were so excited 01:33 about their pastor. They were effusive in their praise. 01:37 I had never heard a couple talk so well 01:42 and so long and so lovingly and so glowingly 01:45 about their pastor. I did not know the man. 01:48 I heard the name John Bradshaw, and of course as a pastor 01:51 you are pleased when your ministry is a blessing 01:55 to your members. But they were so "over the top" 02:00 in their praise, and so loving and so long in their praise 02:05 and so bent on... They said: "You've gotta get this 02:09 guy on 3ABN. " 02:11 And so I wrote the name down. 02:13 And before I knew it, their pas- tor became the speaker/director 02:19 for It Is Written. And we began to hear his baritone voice 02:23 with the New Zealand accent preaching the Word of God 02:28 with power. And Danny said that Yvonne 02:32 loved him. He's one of their favorite speakers. 02:35 I must admit also that Irma feels the same way about him 02:38 and I must join that. He is one of my favorite preachers. 02:41 Amen! He is a preacher of the Word. 02:43 He is a good Christian man. 02:45 Husband of one wife, Melissa, 02:47 and father of two children. 02:51 And preacher of the Word 02:53 and just a lovely Christian man. 02:56 And he has a unique ability. If he meets you once, 03:00 he remembers everything about you and your family. 03:03 So if you ever want him to for- get, he's not going to forget. 03:06 If you tell him you have a wife and you have 5 children, 03:09 you name the children. When he meets you a year later 03:11 he will give you the wife's name and all five children. 03:13 And if you're expecting one, he'll probably give you that 03:15 also. But a wonderful gift that he has 03:19 to preach the Word. And he's a real man. 03:22 You know what I mean? He's just a real man in the Lord. 03:25 And so we get to hear him once again. 03:28 And I know - as before - we will be blessed 03:32 as we hear the man of God preach the Word of God. 03:36 Before he comes to us 03:40 I'm going to call one of my best baptisms. 03:43 We baptized many over the years 03:46 but when I got to the Ephesus church one of my first was... 03:48 was Yvonne Lewis. She wasn't doctor then. 03:52 She was singing in the world. 03:54 But when she got baptized she chose to... certain things 03:58 that she and a group of young people stopped singing. 04:01 They wouldn't sing any commercials for alcohol. 04:03 They wouldn't sing any commercials for cigarettes. 04:05 They wouldn't sing any commercials for anything that 04:07 would hurt the body. And so immediately Yvonne - 04:10 upon baptism - they took a financial hit 04:14 because they stopped singing certain kinds of things. 04:16 And so right early on I saw these young people... 04:20 We were all so much younger then. 04:22 I saw these young people 04:25 take the hit in their salary for the Lord. 04:27 They put their money where their mouth is. 04:29 And all of these years she has stood for the Lord 04:31 and now she is here at Dare to Dream and doing 04:34 a wonderful job. She's a great friend of the family 04:36 of Irma and mine and we love her. 04:39 Gonna pray very quickly then Dr. Yvonne Lewis 04:42 and then our preacher of righteousness Pr. John Bradshaw. 04:45 Father God, how we love You and praise You. 04:48 We exalt Your name. 04:50 We thank you for this Camp Meeting. 04:52 We don't know how many more Camp Meetings there will be 04:55 until we see the face of Jesus. 04:57 But we ask for faithfulness 05:00 and fidelity to Your Word. 05:03 Help us, Lord, to stay on the right path. 05:06 Bless now the Word that shall be preached 05:09 with power. May it be "meat in due season" 05:12 to our souls. And we thank you 05:15 for the power of Your Word in Jesus' name, Amen. 05:35 There is a name 05:39 that is so precious. 05:42 A name so wonderful to me. 05:49 A name that's worthy 05:54 of our praises. 05:56 Because of Him 05:59 I am made free! 06:03 And that name is Jesus... 06:07 oh how I love Him! 06:11 The One who gave 06:14 His life for me. 06:18 Because of love 06:21 so unconditional 06:24 I will have life 06:28 eternally. 06:48 His name speaks peace 06:52 into my storm clouds. 06:56 His name speaks calm 07:00 to all my fears. 07:03 And when I think 07:07 that no one loves me 07:11 His loving presence 07:14 is so near. 07:17 And His name is Jesus... 07:21 oh how I love Him! 07:25 The One who gave 07:28 His life for me. 07:32 Because of love 07:35 so unconditional 07:39 I will have life 07:42 eternally. 07:47 Oh praise 07:50 that name; 07:55 praise His holy name! 08:01 Praise that name; 08:08 praise 08:12 that name! 08:17 Someday we'll leave 08:22 this earthly dwelling; 08:25 through time and space 08:29 we all will soar! 08:33 And finally see 08:37 the face of our Jesus 08:40 and praise that name 08:44 forevermore! 08:48 That name is Jesus... 08:52 oh how I love Him! 08:55 The One who gave 08:59 His life for me! 09:06 Because of love 09:10 so unconditional 09:14 I will have life 09:18 eternally. 09:22 Oh, matchless 09:27 is that name Jesus! 09:30 Oh, glorious 09:34 is that name Jesus! 09:38 How wonderful 09:41 is that name Jesus! 09:45 Oh praise 09:52 that name! 10:07 Amen! I could listen to that lady sing 10:10 all day and all night. Amen! 10:13 Thank the Lord. Good evening everyone! 10:15 Good evening. I'm glad you're here 10:18 and I'm glad I'm here. 10:19 We have another chance to open the Bible 10:21 together and discuss a couple of things. 10:25 What we're going to do 10:28 is carry on our theme: Sacrifice: His and Ours. 10:35 By the way, I'm just going to mention one thing. 10:37 You may know this. If you don't, then good; 10:39 if you do, that's OK too. But I would love for you 10:41 to get a daily devotional that I do. 10:44 If you went to itiswritten.com you would see that right there 10:46 on the front page is our Every Word devotional. 10:49 It's sixty seconds long. I know you think 10:52 I couldn't say anything and get done in 60 seconds. 10:55 But... Sometimes we go nuts and it's two minutes long. 10:59 But it's a minute of power: 11:01 a Bible verse applied to your life, 11:03 an inspirational devotional thought. Good for you 11:06 AND great to share with somebody else 11:09 as an entering wedge, a discussion starter, 11:13 as a blessing to share. So if you're not getting Every Word 11:16 I'd encourage you to do so. 11:19 And I can tell you you'll be really blessed. 11:22 Well now, we're going to go again 11:24 and I'm glad we have this time. 11:26 Let's pray together, shall we? Let's pray 11:29 and expect for the Lord to bless us richly. 11:32 Our Father in heaven, we're glad we've been here 11:34 this weekend... we've been really blessed. 11:35 It is always a blessing at 3ABN Camp Meeting. Always! 11:41 And I just want to pray before I ask You to bless this message, 11:46 message that You would continue to bless the ministry of 3ABN. 11:50 And thank you, Lord, that through this vehicle 11:52 You proclaim the gospel around the world, 11:55 draw people to Yourself. 11:57 Bless the leadership here... the staff here. 12:01 Bless the volunteers... everybody who assists with 12:04 urging this ministry forward: bless them. 12:07 And now we pray as we open Your Word 12:10 that You would speak and that You would be heard. 12:14 We know that You don't rely on faulty humans. 12:19 You don't rely on them. 12:20 You work in spite of them. 12:22 And I would pray that now You wouldn't let the limitations 12:25 of fallen humanity get in the way of what You want to do. 12:28 Speak and be heard, we pray. 12:32 And so we thank you, we love You, 12:35 we ask Your blessing and we pray 12:39 in Jesus' name, Amen. Amen! 12:45 A fellow I find extraordinarily inspirational - 12:50 north of the border you enter Canada - 12:54 and in my mind one of the great Canadians of all time 13:00 was a young fellow named Terry Fox. 13:06 He was born in Winnipeg 13:09 and raised east of Vancouver, British Columbia, 13:14 in a place called Port Coquitlam. 13:17 As a kid he was active. He played soccer; 13:20 he played basketball; he played baseball; 13:24 he played rugby. 13:28 And then it's interesting how this happened. 13:30 He was involved... If I remember correctly, 13:33 he was involved in a kind of auto accident where he 13:35 hurt his leg. 13:37 And that pain just didn't seem to want to go away. 13:39 And so he went to the doctor and had his leg examined 13:43 and it was discovered that at the age of 19 he had something 13:48 called osteosarcoma. 13:50 Cancer. 13:52 Nineteen and active. I told you all of the things that he did. 13:55 And of course, more besides. 13:57 The kid was full of life. 14:00 Cancer. It cost him his right leg... it was removed. 14:04 Lost his leg. 14:07 Hard to keep a good man down the saying says. 14:09 Three weeks after surgery he was walking on an artificial leg. 14:15 In August of 1979 14:19 he ran a marathon in Prince George, BC. 14:25 And then in April of 1980 14:29 he began something called the "Marathon of Hope. " 14:35 Starting in St. Johns, Newfoundland, 14:40 he was going to run all the way across Canada. 14:45 Let this sink in: 14:47 he had lost a what? Leg! Yeah. Pretty important things 14:51 when it comes to running. 14:54 He had learned to run on an artificial leg, 14:56 but honestly... I mean, running... 15:01 He would kind of hop on one leg and then drag his artificial leg 15:05 and hope and drag. And I don't mean to belittle what was 15:08 going on. I'm just trying to explain to you this was... 15:10 this was kind of an ungainly and awkward thing. 15:12 And I don't know how anybody could really do that 15:15 but he did. To the extent as I mentioned he ran a marathon. 15:18 Running a marathon... that's one thing. As a matter of fact, 15:21 running a marathon is amazing. 15:23 How many people here tonight have run a marathon? 15:26 One. 15:29 Really? Actually you have run a marathon? 15:33 Oh... two. And my hand is up just to encourage you. 15:38 I have not run a marathon. 15:43 I would like to. 15:46 You know, I said for the longest time I would like to 15:48 run a marathon. And then I started to get a little older 15:52 and you know I had a problem with my knee. 15:56 And I thought to myself: 15:58 "Thank you Jesus... 16:02 Now I have the perfect excuse. " 16:04 Unfortunately the knee problem cleared up. 16:08 No excuse. 16:10 This brother was going to run 8,000 kilometers. 16:13 Of course, you may not know how far that is. 16:16 That's 5,000 miles 16:21 on one leg and a prosthetic. 16:25 He was going to make that run to raise money for cancer research. 16:29 What he did was: he got to St. Johns, Newfoundland, 16:32 filled up two 1- gallon bottles with water 16:37 from the... I guess the Atlantic. 16:41 He would keep one as a memento and the other he would take 16:44 to Vancouver or thereabouts 16:48 and pour the Atlantic Ocean water into the Pacific Ocean. 16:53 What a fantastic thing he was going to do. 16:55 And so he began to run. He began to run. 16:58 To begin with, not that many people knew who he was 17:00 or what he was doing. 17:02 People didn't show him a lot of respect on the road. 17:04 Some of those roads way out there... they're not great. 17:07 Probably not even made for running. 17:09 But as it turned out, he raised millions and millions 17:14 of dollars... millions. By the time he was done with... 17:17 with the run he raised I think 1.6. Then they held a telethon 17:23 and that jumped up to 10. 17:25 The governments I think of Ontario. Was it Ontario? 17:28 British Columbia and Ontario both kicked in $1 million. 17:30 More money came in. He ended up raising 24, 25, 17:33 26 million dollars. 17:36 Amazing! 17:39 His run ended just outside Thunder Bay. 17:41 He didn't make it all the way. 17:43 The cancer returned. 17:46 Made it impossible for him to run any further. 17:48 He ran for 143 days, 17:51 and during that time including media appearances 17:54 and stops for this and stops for that 17:56 he didn't fool with much of that. 17:58 In 143 days he ran 5,500 kilometers: 18:02 very nearly a marathon a day. 18:08 Wow! For almost five months. 18:10 This was superhuman... absolutely! 18:13 How do you do that? How did Terry Fox do that? 18:16 He did it one step at a time... that's how. 18:20 He didn't have a reverse gear. 18:22 The West Coast of Canada beckoned, and he was going to 18:26 get there even if it killed him. 18:31 Because so famous that you could write a letter to him 18:33 from anywhere in the world. You could address it to 18:35 Terry Fox, Canada, and it would get to him. 18:40 You know how big Canada is? 18:43 It's big! 18:46 Really big... and he was going to run all the way across. 18:51 Why do something so audacious? 18:56 Why... why bite off 18:59 something so big? Why go after that? 19:03 Well he wrote a letter to the Cancer Society of Canada 19:07 in October of 1979 and he said this. 19:10 I'm going to read here the actual quote. 19:13 "I soon realized that that would only be half my quest 19:18 for as I went through the 16 months of the physically 19:21 and emotionally draining ordeal of chemotherapy 19:26 I was rudely awakened by the feelings that surrounded 19:29 and coursed through the cancer clinic. 19:32 There were faces with the brave smiles 19:37 and the ones who had given up smiling. 19:40 There were feelings of hopeful denial 19:42 and the feelings of despair. 19:46 My quest... " Listen... "My question would not be 19:50 a selfish one. " Adidas gave him the running shoes. 19:54 Ford Motor Company gave him a van that they drove. 19:57 His buddy drove the van and they slept in the van. 20:01 Somebody else gave something... Oh, 20:04 Who provided the fuel? I forget. Somebody donated the fuel. 20:08 When anybody said "We'll give you this if you... " 20:11 "No... no... we won't do anything for you. 20:15 This isn't for anyone. 20:16 Even though you might want to give us something really 20:19 rather wonderful for this purpose 20:22 it's for cancer research. 20:24 No one's going to profit from this. " 20:27 Now you know, you wouldn't be surprised 20:29 if he would count up the donations and say: 20:32 "Five dollars for cancer research and a dollar for me. " 20:34 After all, he gave an awful lot. 20:35 I'm not saying he should do that but you wouldn't be surprised! 20:38 He never took money for guest appearances 20:40 on television programs or inter- views or anything like that. 20:44 Nothing! He said: 20:47 "My quest would not be a selfish one. 20:50 I could not leave knowing these faces and feelings 20:53 would still exist even though I would be set free from mine. " 20:57 He was not right about that but he believed he was right. 21:01 He wrote this, and this is what's written on the monument, 21:03 this wonderful monument in British Columbia featuring 21:06 Terry Fox with his one good leg and his prosthetic. 21:09 Lurching, running, you know. 21:11 Fantastic monument. 21:13 It says on the monument: "Some- where the hurting must stop. " 21:19 So this is what he wrote to the Cancer Society. 21:21 "Somewhere the hurting must stop 21:23 that I was determined 21:25 to take myself to the limit for this cause. " 21:33 It would be worth it. I would go through a lot. 21:35 I would hurt; I would struggle; I would be tired... 21:40 worn out. I don't know how you run a marathon a day 21:42 for 143 days. I have no idea. 21:45 But he would have done that and more. 21:47 He didn't make it all the way across Canada. 21:49 He would have... even if it killed him. 21:51 Why? Not for him 21:54 but for the faces on the people in the cancer clinic 21:58 when he would go for chemotherapy treatment. 22:01 On the patients that he would see in the doctor's offices. 22:04 Some of them... remember? Brave. Some of them despairing. 22:08 "SOMEBODY has got to spend themselves for these people " 22:13 Terry Fox said. "Might as well be me. " 22:15 "This is what I will give my life to. 22:18 Yea, verily, this is what I will give my life FOR. " 22:22 A hero if you ask me. 22:25 A hero! Kind of a forgotten hero. 22:27 I hope we never forget him. 22:29 Kind of a forgotten hero. 22:31 "I will do it because somebody must. 22:33 I will do it if it's the last thing I do. 22:35 I will do it if it costs me my life. 22:37 I will do this because when I get it done 22:40 if I help somebody it will be worth it. " 22:44 "If we provide a remedy of some kind it will be worth it." 22:47 "If we fund a break- through in cancer treatment 22:50 it will be worth it. " 22:52 "If some kid somewhere does not have to lose 22:55 his or her leg it will be worth it! " 22:58 "It'll be worth it if I do this. " 23:01 Worth it! Now I want you to stop and think. 23:04 God creates the world. Jesus spoke the world into existence. 23:08 But way back there the Godhead was talking together 23:11 about creation and somewhere it came up 23:15 "You're saying We would give free will to this being 23:19 that We create? " "Yes, that's what We're going to do. " 23:21 "Of course, We're in agreement on this. " 23:22 "Free will? What if that free will is squandered? " 23:27 "What happens then? " 23:29 Well... They thought this through, They did: 23:32 the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 23:36 And that's when Jesus became the Lamb slain 23:40 from the foundation of the world. 23:42 Way back in... somewhere in the far reaches of eternity. 23:46 Jesus said: "If humanity goes astray, 23:51 should sin come into the world, 23:54 I will go... I will die. " 23:57 We have a hard time imagining what that even means. 24:00 He had been with His Father since eternity. 24:04 There was never a time that the Son and the Father 24:07 had not been together. And He said: "If it comes down to that, 24:10 I will go. " Jesus... omnipresent. 24:14 We understand that when He came down to this earth 24:16 He gave up... He relinquished omnipresence. 24:19 What would that be like? We don't know. 24:22 We can only imagine. 24:24 Jesus said: "If it comes down to it, 24:27 I will go. It will be worth it? " 24:34 Huh? Worth it? 24:37 Have you taken a drive down Main Street? 24:41 Next time you do... look around. 24:44 Look around; look around at who you see. 24:47 You'll see respectable elderly folks 24:50 and you will see young punks 24:52 and you will see everybody in between. 24:55 And then ask yourself: "Would I die for them? " 24:58 "Wait a minute! I don't even know them. " 25:01 OK... "Would I die for them? " 25:04 "What would they do for me? " Good question. 25:07 Would you die for them? "What's in it for me? " 25:09 "Not a lot. " Would you die for them? 25:12 Come on now. Isaiah chapter 53... let's go. 25:14 Isaiah chapter 53 25:17 and we'll pick it up in verse 7. 25:19 Speaking about Jesus. This is the passage 25:22 that that man who was an official in the government 25:26 of Queen Candace of Ethiopia. This is what he was reading. 25:30 He was reading in Isaiah chapter 53 when Philip came 25:33 alongside him you understand. 25:35 And we pick it up in Isaiah 53 verse 7 which says: 25:39 "He was oppressed and He was afflicted 25:41 yet He opened not his mouth. 25:43 He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, 25:46 and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb - 25:49 or mute - so He openeth not His mouth. " 25:53 Can you imagine? Jesus didn't protest. 25:56 Jesus barely spoke. 25:58 Seven utterances when Jesus went to the cross. 26:01 And what was one of them? "Father, forgive them 26:05 for they don't know what they do. " 26:07 Try and get your head around that. 26:09 Here's Jesus being nailed to a cross by brutes 26:12 and all He does is say: "Father, forgive them. " 26:16 You would've said: "Lord, nuke 'em! " 26:19 "Wipe them out! Kill them! " 26:22 "Can't wait till the resurrection; 26:23 I'm going to make 'em pay! " 26:26 And Jesus said: "Lord, if You would forgive them. " 26:29 "Forgive them. " Can you imagine? 26:31 You know Jesus didn't have to go mutely to the cross. 26:34 He didn't have to go like a lamb... 26:36 like a sheep being taken to the slaughter. 26:39 In Matthew chapter 27 and verse 40 they said: 26:42 "Hey, Thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three 26:44 days: save Thyself. If You are the Son of God, 26:48 come down from the cross. " 26:51 Could He have come down? Yes or no? 26:53 Yes He could have come down! 26:54 Could He have called angels to His help? Yes! 26:57 With a thought He could have struck them dead 27:01 but He didn't. Isaiah chapter 53 and verse 8. 27:04 'He was taken from prison and from judgment 27:07 and who shall declare His generation? 27:09 For He was cut off out of the land of the living. 27:11 For the transgression of my people was He stricken. " 27:14 Verse 9: "And He made His grave with the wicked 27:17 and with the rich in His death 27:20 because He had done no violence, 27:22 neither was any deceit found in His mouth. " 27:25 So Jesus - in Whom there was no sin - 27:28 became sin for us. 27:29 Jesus - the only One that you could ever call just - 27:34 was treated like the least just or the most unjust. 27:38 Jesus, perfect and pure, was treated as though He was 27:42 an abject sinner like the off scouring of the earth. 27:46 Crucified! They did that to the BAD ones! 27:50 The ones they want to make suffer. 27:53 "He made His grave with the wicked..." Isaiah wrote... 27:56 "yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him. " 28:00 "He hath put Him to grief. 28:03 When Thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin 28:05 He shall see His seed. He shall prolong His days 28:10 and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. " 28:13 And here we go. 28:14 What drove? We know what drove Terry Fox. 28:18 Terry Fox did what he did because he wanted to raise money 28:20 for cancer research. Maybe... maybe 28:23 he was very clear. "We're not making any promises here 28:26 but we've got to do something. " This is Terry Fox. 28:29 He did what he did for people suffering from cancer. 28:32 He did what he did in the hope that somehow they could find 28:34 a cure. He did what he did be- cause he wanted to help people. 28:38 Jesus went to the cross, 28:41 was nailed through His hands and His feet, 28:43 crown of thorns pressed down on His head. 28:46 Treated like a vile offender. 28:49 Jesus who they spat on; 28:51 Jesus who they beat; 28:53 Jesus who they ridiculed. How would you feel? 28:57 Why would you do that? 28:59 We are told why Jesus did it in the next verse. 29:02 Verse 11: "He shall see of the travail of His soul 29:08 and shall be satisfied. " Amen! 29:12 "By His knowledge shall My righteous Servant justify 29:14 many for He shall bear their iniquities. " 29:17 Jesus went to the cross. He said: "You know why 29:19 I'm doing this? I'm taking your sin 29:21 so that you can have My righteousness. " Amen! 29:25 "I'm going to be treated like you deserve 29:29 so you can be treated like I deserve. " 29:32 Who does that? 29:35 Jesus does that! 29:37 God does that because God is love! Amen! 29:42 What mattered to Jesus was not His own comfort. 29:47 What mattered to Him was that you 29:50 could have the opportunity to be saved. 29:53 Come on, now... think about that. 29:54 God gets a lot of bad press. 29:57 God gets criticized and ridiculed and blamed for 30:00 most all of the ills that take place in this world. 30:04 And what did He do to deserve that? 30:06 Jesus went to a cross to die for wretched men and women 30:11 in the hope that they would accept what He has done 30:16 and be saved so that one day 30:18 Jesus could walk along a street of gold, 30:21 walk up beside you and put His arm around you. 30:23 And He might say: "Hey, I died because of you. " 30:27 But He won't. He might look at the hands and the feet 30:32 and the scars therein and hold them up and say: 30:35 "You did this! " But He won't. 30:37 He might point to the scars around His brow 30:40 and say: "Hey, this is... you did this! " 30:42 But He won't. He'll just be glad that you are there! 30:46 Amen! He did everything He could to save you 30:49 and everything He could to demonstrate to you that 30:51 God is love and God loves you 30:54 and wants you to be in heaven with Him. 30:57 He went through all of that and He said: "It's OK. " 31:01 Amen! "I am satisfied. " 31:04 "Here on the cross My life is draining out of Me 31:07 but it's OK... I am satisfied 31:10 because if I hang in there a moment longer 31:13 the people at Camp Meeting at 3ABN 31:16 in the Fall of 2017 will all leave knowing that they can 31:20 take hold of My hand, take hold of salvation. " 31:24 "Because I hung on a cross they can live. " 31:27 Amen. Amen! What a Savior! 31:30 Amen! Honestly, I struggle with this. 31:32 I try to appreciate it and I find myself 31:36 incapable of doing so. 31:38 On an intellectual level I can. 31:40 Maybe this is why John said in I John 3 and verse 1: 31:43 "Behold what manner of love 31:45 the Father hath bestowed upon us! " 31:47 Maybe you've just got to look at it. 31:50 You've gotta see it; you've gotta let it sink in. 31:53 Jesus went to the cross and He said: "It's OK. " 31:57 "It's worth it because you might be saved. " 32:03 Amen! 32:05 Now if it was worth it for Jesus to go to the cross 32:11 so that many might be justified... 32:13 If it was worth it, what goes through your mind 32:18 when you hear the mission offering being taken up? 32:24 Knowing that we live here in the land that flows with milk 32:27 and Bibles and in other parts of the world... 32:34 I was in Mongolia not that long ago. 32:36 It Is Written has been working on this 32:40 evangelism medical missionary project 32:44 in Mongolia. It's been fantastic. 32:48 But I'm over there and we're in Chinggis Square. 32:51 We call him Genghis Khan; they call him Chinggis Haan. 32:55 Chinggis Square is the big city square... the center place, 32:59 you know. I said: "I want to find something out." 33:02 And so I approached a group of teenagers. 33:04 I don't know, 16 to 18 is what I'm guessing. 33:07 I said: "Have you ever heard of David and Goliath? " 33:13 They looked at each other. 33:15 They giggled nervously as though they didn't really 33:17 understand this man's question. 33:19 "No... no... we've never heard of them. " 33:21 "Have you ever heard of Noah's ark? " 33:23 "No, we've never heard of Noah's ark. " 33:26 "Have you ever heard of the Bible? " 33:29 They all turned to one person. She was evidently the 33:32 erudite one. She said: "Yes, 33:33 yes... the Bible. I believe that is a moral book. 33:38 That it speaks of Jesus. " Well, how about that! 33:43 Other than that, nothing... nothing. 33:48 And the mission offering is taken up 33:50 and we say: "Pass that along to the next person" 33:57 knowing that mission offerings are for people who don't know 34:01 Jesus or barely have an opportunity 34:04 to know Jesus Christ. 34:07 You see, Jesus died and He said: "That was worth it. " 34:12 "That was... " Can you imagine that? 34:14 "It was worth it. " 34:17 How about you get a call to volunteer some place. 34:20 Might even be in the Dorcas or whatever it's called today: 34:23 Community Services. Might be there. 34:26 You might volunteer and say: "Well I don't even know if I 34:28 helped anybody today. " 34:31 Or you might volunteer and say: "Man, that was worth it 34:34 because it gave somebody the opportunity to receive 34:37 the touch of God. " Somebody invites you on a mission trip 34:39 and not everybody can go... I understand that. 34:41 There's a lot of factors involved. 34:44 But did you ever say: "Man, it would be worth it 34:46 to go because we would give somebody the opportunity 34:50 to know Jesus. " Evangelistic meetings. 34:53 Come on now, we ought to be proclaiming the Word of God 34:56 and preaching until we are hoarse 34:59 because somebody is going to hear the Word of God 35:03 and be saved. And you say: "Costs... " 35:07 You know, here's something that's interesting. 35:09 Somebody on a church board is going to say 35:11 "Well, we had an evangelistic series here 20 years ago 35:18 and I don't even know where the people are who got baptized. 35:22 It's probably the brother who ran them off one by one. 35:24 but I don't even know where they are any more. " 35:28 And he says something like: 35:30 "Costs such a lot of money. " 35:33 Church these days... you get good support from the conference 35:36 in most places and the union maybe. 35:39 "Costs a lot of money! " 35:41 "We don't have that kind of money! " 35:43 It may be 5, 10, 15, 20 thousand dollars. 35:47 Could be more. But let's say it was a good sized church 35:50 and they were looking at raising $20,000 to put into evangelism. 35:54 Now I don't know how many people are going to be saved. 35:56 How many people are going to be won to Christ. 35:57 That depends on the work of the Spirit 36:00 and the work of the church. Amen! 36:02 You know, evangelism works. 36:04 When you stop working it stops working. 36:08 And so this fellow had the audacity to say: 36:10 "Man that's a lot of money. How many baptisms are we 36:13 going to get for that? That's a lot of money! " 36:15 And then two nights later 36:17 the brother has a heart attack. Pfflh... on the floor. 36:21 "Ahh... honey, help me. 36:23 Help me; call an ambulance. " 36:24 And she says: "Oh, that's a lot of money! " 36:31 A lot of money. 36:35 "Uhh... I think I need surgery. " 36:38 "Surgery? Surgery! 36:40 That's tens of thousands of dollars! 36:43 How many people are going to be saved 36:45 if we spend $20,000 on you? " 36:49 "One. " "Not enough! " 36:55 Amen! 36:57 Not enough! Listen: our communities are screaming 37:03 at us: "We must be saved; 37:06 we must be saved. " 37:07 You see riots in the streets; you see demonstrations. 37:11 You see arguments; you see crime. 37:13 The murder rate is now ticking up. 37:16 Crime, unrest... however you want to measure it. 37:20 And you say: "Oh, we have racial tension. 37:23 Oh, we have social problems. 37:26 Oh, we have socioeconomic disparity. 37:29 Oh, we have... " Yes, yes, yes. While those things are true 37:32 what's the underlying cause? The underlying cause 37:35 is there is a great controversy raging. 37:38 Amen! When you see crazy stuff going on in your 37:41 community, that is your com- munity. Say: "We need Jesus! " 37:46 Amen! "We need your church 37:49 to come into this community and help us know the way. " 37:52 And we're going to say: "Oh, how much is that going to cost? " 37:55 I'm not advocating wastefulness. 37:58 I'm advocating priorities. 38:00 And our priorities as a people under God 38:03 is to reach people for the kingdom. 38:07 And when one person is saved 38:09 we see of the travail of ourselves 38:11 and we are satisfied! Two: hallelujah! 38:15 A hundred? Amen! 38:17 Two hundred? It doesn't matter, does it? 38:19 We are to be about our Father's business 38:21 because people are dying and going to hell - 38:24 at least ultimately - every day! 38:27 Christless graves every day. 38:30 Young people... I want to speak to young people. 38:33 You think: "What am I going to do when I leave school? " 38:35 "Well, I'm going to work in IT. That's where the action is. " 38:38 Good... good. "I'll be a lawyer. " 38:40 Great. "A physician. " Amen! 38:43 "A designer, an architect, an engineer, 38:45 a teacher, a nurse... " Whatever it might be. 38:47 Those are good. 38:49 I am not the voice of the Spirit of God and I am not 38:52 telling you how God is calling you, but I appeal to you 38:55 to think about dedicating your life 38:58 to a life of ministry. I appeal to ya. 39:01 Where are the young men who were saying: "I'm off to school 39:04 to study to be a minister. " 39:05 Where are the young people who are saying: "I'm going to go 39:07 and give my life to a mission enterprise. " 39:10 And whether it's a life or a part of a life 39:13 where are the...? I'm certain they exist. 39:15 Many... of course they do. 39:17 I want to tell you when you get involved in ministry 39:19 you see God work. Man, that's where you see God work. 39:22 We hold our SALT evangelism training school 39:24 at It Is Written. We hold it on the campus of 39:26 Southern Adventist University. 39:28 Young people of all ages come through there every year. 39:31 It's a fantastic program! 39:33 And those four months - man! change a person's life. 39:39 We do not have a culture 39:43 of service and soul winning. 39:45 We should! 39:47 We do not have that culture. 39:49 We have a culture of going to church. 39:52 But our culture must be a culture of saving others. 39:58 Reaching out to others... sharing our faith. 40:00 A culture of evangelism. 40:03 One of our SALT students was walking out, walking around 40:06 the other night. It was dark. He said: "I'm going to take 40:08 a walk. " He was walking and out of the shadows 40:10 emerged this young man. 40:12 "Oh, hello. How ya doin' man? " 40:14 "I've been trying to contact my mother but my phone is not 40:17 working. " Our friend said: "Hey, use my phone. " 40:20 He calls his mother five times or so. 40:22 He can't get through. And this young fellow 40:24 gets this bright idea: "Hey, I can drive you to your house. " 40:28 Well you don't know who this guy is. 40:30 Ax murderer? He doesn't have a clue. 40:34 "I'll drive you to your house. " "Man, would you do that? 40:36 It's like six miles away. " 40:37 "Hey, that's only 10 minutes. Absolutely. " 40:41 He ran back to where he was staying. 40:42 You know, and he goes: "Wait a minute! 40:44 I'm a SALT student; I've been looking for a Bible study. 40:47 Maybe this is the brother. " 40:49 So he takes his first It Is Written Bible study 40:51 "Can God Be Trusted? " "Ah, I'm going to ask him. " 40:54 They get in the car together. 40:56 They're driving along. "Man, how do I? " 40:58 "Man, would you be interested in studying the Bible? " 41:05 "Yeah... yeah, I'd be interested in that. 41:08 That'd be great! " 41:10 "Man, I've drifted so far from God I've been wondering 41:12 about my life. " They pull up at the brother's house. 41:15 His mother just happens to be in the driveway. 41:17 They get out; they start talking to the mother. 41:19 The mother's saying: "I'm so glad he met you. 41:21 He needs good friends; you seem like a nice kid. 41:23 Thank the Lord. " "Did you say church? " "Yes. " 41:25 "Why don't you take my son to church this weekend? " 41:28 "You want to come? " "Sure. " 41:30 Just like that... just like that. 41:34 See, if he had not entered into this groove 41:38 of service and soul winning he would wander through life 41:41 saying: "Can God really use me? " 41:44 We don't see the Holy Spirit in our lives enough 41:48 'cause we don't do enough 41:50 that requires the Holy Spirit to show up! 41:52 Huh? When you get involved in soul winning 41:57 man, you see what happened. 42:00 Powerful! 42:02 If your life is all about money, you've got problems. 42:05 Now if your life leads you to money, 42:07 praise the Lord. That's all right. 42:10 But if a young person or ANY person 42:13 is looking into the future and your primary goal is 42:16 what you can get... Imagine if Jesus' primary goal 42:18 was what He could get! 42:20 Get? He was here to give! 42:23 "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, " 42:27 Amen! They nailed the hand... 42:29 They nailed the hand to the cross and Jesus stretched out 42:32 His other hand and placed it on the wood. 42:35 "Is that right? "Yeah, right... you've got it. " 42:38 They didn't force His legs into place. 42:40 He stretched them out. He came to give! 42:42 He gave His life a ransom for many. 42:45 If you are turned on by material things, 42:47 if that's what you're after, 42:49 one day you may end up being like the rich young ruler. 42:52 He discovered the only thing... Can you imagine Jesus 42:56 saying to you: "If you do this one thing, 42:58 you've got it. " And he said: "Oh, man, yes! " 43:01 What if Jesus said that to you? 43:02 You would swallow razor blades if Jesus asked you to. 43:06 If that's what... "Just do that and you'll be saved. " 43:10 Jesus said: "Just sell what you have, That's all. " 43:12 And he said: "Mmm... 43:15 price too high. " Can you imagine? 43:20 He was very rich. 43:22 He had "many goods" one translation says. 43:24 It ought to say: "He had many gods" 43:26 because that's all they were: they were gods. 43:29 Jesus came to this world for the purpose of seeking 43:32 people to save. 43:34 What are you in this world for? 43:36 I'm transitioning off of young people now, but I want to 43:39 reiterate what I just said. If you are young people... 43:41 If you are a "young people" looking in the... 43:46 I've been living in Tennessee for a while now. 43:54 If you are a young people and you're looking out 43:56 into the future, invite God into the center of it. 44:00 It doesn't mean that He's going to take you to some far off 44:03 country on your own to live in privation. 44:05 But it might... and if that's what your future is 44:08 it will be the best future you can even imagine 44:10 if that's God's will. 44:13 And if God wants you to go be a brain surgeon 44:15 and earn a gazillion dollars praise the Lord! 44:17 That'd be great if that's God's will. 44:20 If it's not God's will you will never be happy. 44:23 Jesus could have come to this earth and become a 44:25 "gazillionaire. " A big businessman. 44:28 A scientist... a leader. He could have been a leader 44:31 in Israel. They said: "You... we're going to take You 44:34 and put you on the throne. " He said: "Wouldn't that be great 44:37 to be the ruler. But nah, that's not My mission. 44:40 I'm here to die. " "What? " 44:42 "I'm here to die. " "You can't be serious! " 44:44 "I will see of the travail of my soul 44:47 and be satisfied... SATISFIED! 44:51 That's what will bring Me joy. " 44:52 "Dying will bring Me joy 44:54 because by dying you will have life. " 44:57 And that's what Jesus was all about. 44:59 Amen! How about we get that enthusiastic about the mission 45:01 that He has entrusted to us? 45:03 We can see of the travail of our souls 45:06 and be satisfied. You get working for Jesus 45:08 you see miracles, man... miracles. 45:11 Let me share a little miracle story with you. 45:13 We were filming that 500 series I've been telling you about. 45:16 You're going to watch it on 3ABN late October 45:18 nine nights straight. Don't miss it. 45:20 So we were in Ireland at the cliffs of Moher. 45:23 We'd done a program about Patrick who wasn't a Reformation 45:26 reformer but a reformer before the Reformation time. 45:29 Very very influential man. 45:32 Responsible for the spread of Christianity 45:34 through the British Isles. 45:36 And so we were at the cliffs of Moher. 45:39 Magnificent. They get up to about... Oh, what is it? 45:43 Seven hundred feet tall? Is it 1,100? I don't know. 45:45 Hundreds of feet tall. Beautiful stark cliffs 45:49 on the west coast of Ireland not too far from Galway you see. 45:52 You can see the Aran Islands out there in the distance. 45:55 Oh, it's so beautiful! 45:57 And so I did my little thing and speaking to the camera 46:00 and we did all of that. And then I was done 46:03 but the boys wanted to get some footage with the drone. 46:06 And so I said: "Well, you've got it so I'm going to just 46:10 walk up here and walk along the cliffs. " 46:12 And so I'm out there having a happy time 46:14 not knowing what's going on back there. 46:16 Here's what they did. They wanted to film the cliffs 46:18 and then film the sun as it was kind of sinking into the sea. 46:23 And then they'll turn the drone around and come back towards 46:26 the coast of Ireland and get these spectacular shots 46:29 of the cliffs of Moher. 46:31 And so that's what they did. 46:32 Now you know on your cell phone 46:36 my battery says 86%. 46:39 86. Next it will say? 85. 46:44 And after that? 84. That's how it goes. 46:47 Now, on these drones they have a battery meter 46:51 so you can see how much power is in the drone. 46:53 They fly it out. They're a mile off shore. 46:56 A mile. They turn it around 46:58 and they're flying it into stiff headwinds. 47:01 Didn't realize what that would do to the battery. 47:04 So the batteries are like 55%. That's no problem. 47:07 Should go to 54 except... phumm... 47:11 it drops to 45. It's still a mile off shore. 47:16 Flying into the wind - strong wind - it drops now from 45 47:19 to like 37. Phumm. 47:21 I'm thinking: "We are seeing a trend developing here 47:26 and if we don't arrest the trend 47:28 we're going to lose the drone. " Here's what happens when the 47:30 drone gets to 5% it lands. 47:35 Lands gently... it just circles down automatically. 47:39 Five percent. It doesn't keep on flying because 47:42 not long after five is zero 47:44 and that way it just drops like a rock. 47:47 And so at 5... So now it's at 37. 47:50 31... 26... 18. 47:52 "Oh my goodness! " My friend Matt 47:55 turns to Zack. He says: "Zack, we've got to pray. " 47:57 Zack said: "I'll pray. " They began to pray "Lord! 48:00 We don't want to lose this drone. " 48:02 You know, if you lose a drone you can replace a drone. 48:04 Ouch... but you can replace a drone. 48:06 But if you lose a drone over the ocean you lose the footage 48:09 as well. It's on that little memory card. 48:12 It goes into the drink. No one's going in after it. 48:16 A day's work would have gone down the drain. 48:18 And we don't build our filming schedule with days to spare man. 48:23 Rest days... we've got them scheduled 48:25 in heaven. That's... then. 48:28 But when we're in the field we're there to work. 48:30 So now the drone is at 15%. 48:33 It's at 11%... there's no way it's going to make it. 48:36 It gets to 7%. Matt is flying this thing; he's looking at 48:39 Zack. He's praying. 5%. 48:44 4%. 48:47 3%. 48:48 This thing is just flying right towards the coast 48:50 like it's plugged into the wall. 48:55 At 5% it's supposed to do what? Supposed to land. 48:59 It gets to zero percent. 49:02 It's still like a quarter of a mile. Quarter of a mile! 49:05 Quarter of a mile off the coast. 49:07 Zero. He's looking at the gauge. "Wow, is this a mistake? " 49:10 Zero... and it flies way up above the water. 49:15 They are praying: "Don't let it drop; don't let it drop, Lord. " 49:17 It's not going to land gently now, it's just going to pflumh. 49:20 And they're praying and they're praying and they're praying 49:23 and it's flying. And then it makes it above the land! 49:25 And they're like: "Hallelu... wait.. 49:28 we don't want it to drop now. 49:30 It'll land on the concrete and we'll have a jigsaw puzzle. 49:33 We'll have to go looking for the card with the footage on it. " 49:36 They got it over the grass; they brought it in to land. 49:39 They brought it in to land; it landed like a feather, 49:43 gently on the grass. 49:44 I didn't know that God was that interested in drones! 49:49 But I'm sure glad He was in- terested in our drone that day. 49:53 We got out of there praising the Lord! 49:56 God is good! If I wasn't working with a team of guys who said 50:00 "I should have gone to Hollywood... " 50:01 Literally, they could have gone to Hollywood and got jobs. 50:04 Instead they said: "We are going to work in a Christian 50:07 organization serving God. " Amen! 50:10 They got to see miracles. That's a miracle, man! 50:13 I know you're thinking Lazarus getting raised from the dead. 50:15 I understand. Same God; same power; 50:19 different manifestation. We were grateful; thank the Lord. 50:22 You see miracles when you work for God. Miracles! 50:25 You can get to the end of your life and say: 50:27 "Well maybe I never owned a condo by the sea 50:31 but I got to work with Jesus! " 50:32 And maybe you can work with Jesus AND own a condo 50:35 by the sea. I don't know. 50:37 We were in Boston, MA, conduct- ing an evangelistic series. 50:41 Working with a team of young people who had given themselves 50:44 to serving God. 50:45 They were involved in full-time ministry. 50:48 Young people. Two of them go to a door. 50:51 They knock on the door. 50:53 A lady whom I will call Kathy answered the door. 50:57 They speak to Kathy, ask the questions. 51:00 "Doing a community survey... would you be interested in 51:03 spiritual things? " "Yes. " "Would you like Bible studies? " 51:06 "Love them. " "How's Tuesday? " 51:09 "Great! " Here's what they didn't know. 51:11 Just a couple of weeks before Kathy, who had an awful 51:14 childhood, had an unfortunate marriage, 51:20 decided that her life was no longer worth living. 51:22 She went to the hardware store and purchased everything 51:25 she figured she would need to end her life. 51:29 I don't know what that was and I didn't ask. 51:31 She came back to her apartment, got it set up so that when 51:34 she perished there wouldn't be a terrible mess for anyone 51:36 to clean up. She said: "Yeah, this is it. 51:39 This is the day I check out. " 51:41 She sat down just to reflect 51:44 and the cats jumped up on her. 51:46 Started rubbing against her like crazy, 51:48 like they never did. She said: "What is this? " 51:51 "Maybe... maybe God is trying to tell me something. " 51:54 Then she reflected. Suicide, she thought. 51:57 Suicide? She was raised a Catholic. 51:59 She said: "I know that that's not pleasing to God. 52:02 Maybe I shouldn't do this. 52:03 Maybe I shouldn't do this. " 52:05 She cleaned up the apartment and not long after those two 52:08 young ladies were knocking at her door. 52:12 A couple of days before she was baptized she told me 52:14 her story. She wiped away tears with the palms of her hands. 52:18 She told me this story. She told me about her past. 52:21 She told me about the plan to end her life. 52:25 And then she looked up at me and with tears streaming down 52:28 her face she said: "But you people loved me! " 52:32 Oh, come on now... isn't that great? 52:34 And I love the fact she didn't say: "But you 52:36 people indoctrinated me. " 52:37 "You people told me the truth. " 52:39 "You people helped me see the error of my ways. " 52:43 "But you people loved me. " 52:45 In fact, helping somebody understand the Bible: 52:47 that's loving them. 52:48 But these were people who invested themselves in her life. 52:52 They became friends; they became helpers. 52:54 They became transportation; they became a support system. 52:58 "But you people loved me! " 53:01 Can you believe that? Amen! Praise the Lord! 53:05 Why are we here? There is a great controversy raging. 53:08 It's RAGING! 53:11 Filming in Italy - in Rome - 53:16 I went into St. Peters. 53:17 You walk into St. Peters... my goodness, what a building! 53:20 On the left hand side there's a giant statue high and lifted up. 53:23 The next statue over: Ignatius of Loyola. 53:27 He's holding the spiritual exercises or something about 53:31 the Jesuit order under his arm and he's got his foot 53:35 on a sprawled-out Protestant. 53:40 And then you go to the mother church of the Jesuit order 53:42 not in the Vatican but only a mile or so away. 53:45 It's called The Church of the Jesu... Church of Jesus. 53:50 On the front wall outside 53:52 there's a middle door and then a side door and a side door 53:55 on the front. Above those side doors 53:57 Ignatius Loyola with his foot on a sprawled-out Protestant. 54:02 What message do you think Rome is sending you? 54:06 Go inside. The statue of Ignatius is magnificent 54:11 in and of itself. But next to it there's a statue 54:15 featuring Mary, and before Mary, falling backwards, 54:19 are two men: Martin Luther and I thought it was John Calvin. 54:24 The names aren't there but it may be John Hus. 54:26 Two Protestants that she is casting down from heaven. 54:31 She has in one hand what appears to be a lightning bolt 54:37 and in the other hand a cross and she's casting them down. 54:41 Their writings are visible. 54:43 You can see books if you look really really closely. 54:46 In good light with a good lens you can see 54:49 on the edge of one book it says Martin Luther. 54:51 On the edge of another book it says John Calvin. 54:53 On the edge of another book it says Huldrych Zwingli 54:56 and there is a little angel tearing the pages out of 55:00 Zwingli's writings. Now there's some question 55:03 as to whether that's a Bible the angel is tearing pages out of 55:06 or not, but on the spine of the book it now says 55:09 Huldrych Zwingli if you look closely. 55:13 There's a great controversy going on. 55:15 What is? You know what? 55:19 The devil is planning; the devil gets his minions together. 55:24 Again, you see trouble in the world today. 55:26 It's because the devil is plot- ting and scheming and active... 55:29 actively engaged. You know he KNOWS 55:31 that he's going to the lake of fire. 55:33 He knows that... he's read the scriptures. 55:35 Then when he's standing in the lake of fire 55:37 and looks around he shall see the travail of his soul 55:40 and shall be satisfied. 55:42 Or maybe dissatisfied that he didn't get one more. 55:45 But he'll know that because of him all of these 55:47 are not going to heaven they're going to hell. 55:50 "Sorry God... You didn't get these ones... 55:52 I got 'em! " 55:54 And that's what he's playing for. 55:56 That's what he's playing for. 55:58 When I see those statues I say to myself: 56:00 "Man, the devil... he's not fooling around. " 56:03 Rome is sending you a message today. 56:05 "If you are a Protestant, this is what we think of you 56:08 and we tear the pages out of your writings. " 56:11 "We're after you; we want to bring you back to Rome, 56:15 and if we can't bring you back to Rome... " 56:17 As the Bible says: "There is a time of trouble 56:20 coming such as never was since there was a nation. " 56:23 You look now at the way the Protestant churches 56:25 are coming back to Rome. The Lutheran church in America 56:28 is signing agreements with the church of Rome 56:30 saying now: "We have very little that divides us. 56:33 Most of the disagreements from 500 years ago 56:36 we have set to one side. " Remarkable... remarkable. 56:40 Remarkable! Jesus is coming back soon. 56:45 We're getting closer and closer. 56:46 We're getting closer and closer. 56:48 No man knows the day or the hour 56:49 but we're getting closer and closer. 56:51 Whatever you see going on in the world around you today 56:53 it says we are getting closer and closer. 56:56 We just are! 56:58 And look at us. Next time you look in the mirror 57:00 you're going to say to yourself: "I'm getting closer. " 57:04 Jesus died. Why? He beheld the travail of His soul 57:07 and He was satisfied. 57:10 Come on, now. You do something for Jesus 57:12 you can be satisfied. Represent Jesus in the world. 57:15 Be satisfied. Get involved in mission and outreach 57:17 and evangelism and ministry. 57:19 Be satisfied. Share Jesus with somebody. 57:23 And when you see someone in heaven... 57:25 in heaven who says "thank you" 57:27 on that day you too can be satisfied. 57:30 Amen! Come on, we're going to pray together now. 57:35 We're going to pray: Our Father in heaven, 57:39 we are thankful today 57:43 because You have called us to a life not of inactivity 57:46 but a life of service. |
