The herald angels sing 03:05 Glory to the newborn King 03:17 Thank you. I enjoyed that so much. 03:20 I believe I have a story. 03:24 I have some stories that happened in Central America 03:26 and maybe in South America. 03:29 But, Jafet, I think you are from Honduras. 03:32 Am I correct? 03:33 Yes. You are. 03:35 So can you tell me a little bit about Honduras? 03:37 Yes. I'll kindly do it. 03:40 In Honduras, the traditional Christmas holiday 03:43 is celebrated in December 24. 03:47 People often go to church that day, 03:49 do remember the birth of Jesus. 03:53 They also go to their grandparents' house 03:56 to celebrate Christmas food and music. 04:00 And the main foods that they do those days are tamales, 04:04 and they also do toheroas with honey. 04:08 The stores are decorated, and there are Christmas trees 04:11 on the stores too for sale. 04:14 They also have little figures of Jesus, Virgin Mary, 04:18 St. Joseph, and the Three Wise Men. 04:22 And in Honduras, there are a lot of fireworks 04:24 but the best are saved for midnight. 04:27 At midnight, we also give hugs to each other 04:30 to remember that we love each other 04:33 and to welcome everyone to the New Year. 04:35 And that's the story I have for today. 04:38 Thank you so much, Jafet. 04:40 So my story takes place in Cuba, 04:43 and little Anna was only eight years old 04:45 and she was excited because Christmas was around a corner. 04:49 But her mom was asking her, "Anna, 04:51 can you come and help in the kitchen?" 04:53 And Anna wasn't so excited to help in the kitchen 04:56 because when you have to help in the kitchen, 04:58 that means, you also have to do what? 05:00 Do some dishes and cleaning up. 05:02 Well, she said, "All right, Mama, I'll come and help." 05:06 So she would get in the kitchen, 05:08 and she would help make beans and rice 05:11 or maybe it was the rice and beans. 05:12 But anyway, she would also make salad, 05:15 and she would have some fried potatoes 05:17 and she would help her mother peel the potatoes 05:19 and cook them and get them all ready. 05:21 And so she was excited. 05:23 But then her favorite thing that 05:25 she loved helping her mom with was with cake. 05:28 Do you like cake? 05:29 Do you make cake for Christmas? Oh! 05:31 And so she's like, "Mama, can I help? 05:33 Can we put especially the guava jam inside of it?" 05:37 And mama's like, "All right, but, you know, 05:39 we only have so much, 05:40 you can't spread it out too thick." 05:42 And so she would help her mama 05:43 spread the jelly right on and set it up. 05:47 And so now was the time to go ahead 05:49 and prepare these foods 05:50 and separate these different plates 05:51 to be able to take over to the other neighbors. 05:56 Some neighbors didn't have a lot of food 05:57 because some of them were poor, and didn't have a lot of food. 06:01 And some of them have 06:02 the sick people in their family. 06:04 And so she was so delighted because her brother, 06:07 and Chazelle, would actually go 06:09 and knock on the doors and say, 06:11 "Hi, we've got some food for you." 06:13 So they were excited about that. 06:14 But before that they had one other stop to go to, 06:16 and that was to the hospital. 06:18 And so they had a cousin that was there. 06:21 And so they went to their cousin and say, 06:23 "Oh, look at this package. 06:24 We want to wish you a Merry Christmas." 06:26 And oh! 06:28 Do you think he beamed up real big? 06:30 Oh, he did. He was so excited. 06:31 And so he said, "Oh, thank you so much." 06:34 And then it was time to go over to the neighbors, 06:36 and they would go and knock and give the food, 06:39 and the people were so delighted. 06:40 But there was one special little house 06:44 that they would go to, and there was a little boy 06:46 and she knew this little boy 06:47 because he was the same age as her, 06:50 but he couldn't run and play like the other boys. 06:52 He was in a wheelchair. 06:55 And so she really thought about that and said, 06:58 "Oh, you know what?" 07:00 He wants to have something, and so she would spend 07:03 some time with him and talk to him. 07:05 And sometimes they would sing some songs 07:06 and tell funny stories of what they did at school. 07:09 And so she just remembered all these phases 07:11 that would always be something special for them. 07:14 Have you ever done something like that 07:16 where you sometimes want to just be that 07:17 little light for Jesus? 07:19 I do. 07:20 And so I have another story that doesn't happen 07:23 in Central America, but in Argentina. 07:26 And in Argentina, there's special things 07:29 that happen in Argentina 07:30 because that is in the southern part. 07:32 And they also speak Spanish, 07:34 and just like in Central America, 07:36 and in South America, there is also the equator. 07:40 And when the equator is... 07:41 Where the equator is, you know where the earth is. 07:44 It is not wintertime over there. 07:46 Do you know what it is? In South America? 07:49 It is summertime you're right 07:51 because the sun hits it directly. 07:53 And so kids are often playing around 07:55 in the yard during Christmas time. 07:58 And their favorite thing to do, 08:00 they love to just play outside 08:02 and they anticipate Christmas Eve, fireworks. 08:05 Do you like fireworks? Oh, they love fireworks. 08:08 But little Sylvia, she decided, "No, you know what, 08:12 we're going to do something special 08:13 before it's Christmas Eve, we're going to get 08:16 and we're going to write little messages and say, 08:18 'Jesus loves you, 08:20 so do we' or 'We're praying for you' 08:22 or 'We're thinking of you.' 08:23 " And so they would blow, put these little message 08:26 and they would put them in balloons, 08:28 and then they would blow up the balloons with helium. 08:31 And then they would take them to the hospital with a cord. 08:34 And there, they decided all of the people 08:37 would come and they would sing 08:38 to all the people at the hospital, 08:40 and then they would let the balloons go up. 08:43 And many of the people on that lawn were excited 08:46 because they had little love messages 08:48 for the children. 08:49 And that was so much fun. 08:51 But the highlight for Sylvia was going to Cordoba. 08:55 And in there where 08:57 she would go see her grandmother, 08:58 the biggest highlight that every family would do, 09:01 it would get in the middle of the square, 09:04 and they would be able to sing. 09:06 And then they would do something really special. 09:10 They would have something like this little lantern. 09:13 Now most of the time, they were bigger lanterns. 09:17 And they would make them, they would decorate them, 09:20 and do them really nice and really special. 09:23 They would have these, they call them fire balloons. 09:26 And so they would let the air pick them up. 09:30 And then these balloons would burn up. 09:33 And they would light, and people would see them. 09:35 And it'd be hundreds and hundreds 09:37 of these lanterns up in the sky. 09:40 And she was just so excited. 09:42 And then like you said fireworks was a big thing, 09:45 and sometimes they would have it 09:47 all until midnight, 09:48 having lots of fireworks all the time 09:51 because just seeing the light of Jesus was always so bright. 09:55 And so it reminds me of little stories 09:58 of how we can shine our light for Jesus. 10:00 Do you think so? Yeah. 10:02 And just like his stories in Honduras, 10:06 you have some wonderful stories there. 10:08 And in Cuba, we have some stories of little Anna. 10:12 And now, Sylvia, I'm so thankful that 10:16 God has done wonderful things in around the world. 10:20 There's other countries that we haven't included. 10:23 But we've just included a little bit 10:25 of some that speak Spanish. 10:27 And I am so thankful that Jesus loves us all 10:30 and wants us to shine our light for Him. 10:33 I do agree. 10:34 How many of you want to shine your light for Jesus? 10:37 I really want to shine for Jesus. 10:39 So I would like you to think about 10:42 some different things that we can do. 10:44 Maybe at home, 10:45 maybe it's cooking a little package 10:47 or just saying a little message 10:48 or just making a flower bouquet for somebody. 10:52 Whatever you can do, do it for Jesus. 10:55 And I appreciate all that you do. 10:56 So, Jafet, I know that you might have... 11:01 I'm thinking of "Joy to the World" 11:03 because we have so much joy in our hearts, don't we? 11:06 Are we so thankful that we have joy? 11:08 Yes. 11:09 And I think you know some Spanish. 11:11 Would you be able to tell us the chorus of 11:13 "Joy to the World" in Spanish? 11:15 Yes. 11:27 So I'm excited. 11:28 Do you think we can all sing together "Joy to the World"? 11:32 I would like to sing that. Stand up and sing. 11:41 Joy to the world, The Lord is come 11:45 Let earth receive her King 11:50 Let every heart Prepare Him room 11:55 And Heaven and nature sing 11:58 And Heaven and nature sing 12:00 And Heaven, and Heaven, And nature sing 12:07 Joy to the earth, The Savior reigns! 12:11 Let men their songs employ 12:16 While fields and floods, 12:19 Rocks, hills and plains 12:21 Repeat the sounding joy 12:24 Repeat the sounding joy 12:26 Repeat, repeat, The sounding joy 12:35 He rules the world With truth and grace 12:40 And makes the nations prove 12:45 The glories of His righteousness 12:50 And wonders of His love 12:52 And wonders of His love 12:55 And wonders and wonders 12:57 Of His love 13:05 Thank you. 13:06 I really appreciate all this singing that we do. 13:10 "Joy to the World" is such a special song, 13:12 and I really appreciate it. 13:13 Jafet, would you please have closing prayer for us? 13:16 Yes. 13:18 Dear, Heavenly Father, thank You for coming 13:20 to this earth as the baby 13:21 and that we can have special time 13:23 with our family and friends. 13:24 Please bless all the children around the world 13:27 and live in our hearts. 13:28 In the name of Jesus, amen. 13:30 Oh! Thank you. 13:32 And there's so many special things 13:34 that you can remember. 13:35 And I really appreciate it. 13:37 Do you have any favorite songs that you like singing? 13:41 I like "What Child Is This?" 13:45 I like "Silent Night." 13:49 "Away in a Manger" is kind of special. 13:51 "Away in a Manger." I like that. 13:53 Thank you so much for joining us. 13:55 We hope that you have a special time making memories 13:58 with your family and close friends. 14:01 May Jesus bring you joy during this special season 14:04 so that others will see the light of Jesus through you. 14:07 My friends and I would like to wish you 14:09 a very special and Merry Christmas! |
