00:01 Gloria,
00:06 in excelsis Deo!
00:25 Angels we have heard on high sweetly singing o'er the plains,
00:33 and the mountains in reply echoing their joyous strains.
00:40 Gloria,
00:48 in excelsis Deo.
00:52 Gloria,
00:59 in excelsis Deo.
01:05 Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong?
01:13 What the gladsome tidings be
01:16 which inspire your heavenly song?
01:20 Gloria,
01:27 in excelsis Deo.
01:31 Gloria,
01:38 in excelsis Deo.
01:44 Come to Bethlehem and see
01:47 Christ whose birth the angels sing.
01:51 Come, adore on bended knee,
01:55 Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
01:58 Gloria,
02:05 in excelsis Deo.
02:09 Gloria,
02:16 in Excelsis Deo.
02:22 See Him in a manger laid whom the choir of angels praise.
02:29 Mary, Joseph, lend your aid
02:33 while our hearts in love we raise.
02:36 Gloria,
02:44 in Excelsis Deo.
02:47 Gloria,
02:55 in Excelsis Deo.
03:06 Have you ever wondered what, "Gloria in Excelsis Deo," means?
03:09 It means, glory to God in the highest.
03:11 The angels had to sing; this was the long-awaited plan
03:15 for salvation being set into motion.
03:17 They just couldn't be silent.
03:19 Yet, they weren't the only ones excited.
03:22 Our next song is a special song to me because it was written
03:25 in French in the about the 1860s.
03:28 And since, it has been translated into English
03:30 and played with a musette which is a sort of bagpipe
03:33 that would be used for special celebrations.
03:37 You can almost hear the excitement and joy of the
03:40 long-awaited Savior of the world with this next song,
03:43 Il est né, le divin Enfant,
03:45 He is Born, the Divine Christ Child,
03:47 that Sam will sing for us.
03:58 He is born, the divine Christ Child;
04:01 play the oboe and bagpipes merrily.
04:05 He is born, the divine Christ Child;
04:09 sing we all of the Savior mild.
04:13 Through long ages of the past,
04:16 prophets have foretold His coming.
04:20 Through long ages of the past, now the time has come at last.
04:27 He is born, the divine Christ Child;
04:31 play the oboe and bagpipes merrily.
04:35 He is born, the divine Christ Child;
04:38 sing we all of the Savior mild.
04:46 O how lovely, O how pure
04:49 is this perfect Child of heaven.
04:53 O how lovely, O how pure
04:57 gracious gift to humankind.
05:00 He is born, the divine Christ Child;
05:04 play the oboe and bagpipes merrily.
05:08 He is born, the divine Christ Child;
05:11 sing we all of the Savior mild.
05:15 Jesus, Lord of all the world, coming as a Child among us.
05:23 Jesus, Lord of all the world, grant to us Thy heavenly peace.
05:30 He is born, the divine Christ Child;
05:34 play the oboe and bagpipes merrily.
05:38 He is born, the divine Christ Child;
05:41 sing we all of the Savior mild.
05:45 Sing we all of the Savior mild.
05:56 I wish I could have been there to hear the excitement of the
06:00 birth of our Savior and watch how the angels must have
06:03 worshipped baby Jesus.
06:04 I'm sure there was lots of singing,
06:06 and perhaps some music too.
06:08 After all, many of us like singing when we're happy.
06:11 Others of us might enjoy playing music,
06:13 like Joshua, Amy, and Michael will play,
06:15 It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.
08:13 It's wonderful that we can praise God by our music
08:16 because that is a form of worship.
08:18 The more we worship, the more our love for God grows.
08:22 And the more our love grows,
08:23 the more we want to share it with others
08:25 who are eager to hear the good news.
08:27 Let's listen to Joshua who will play,
08:29 Do You Hear What I Hear?
10:41 Thank you, Joshua.
10:43 If we could hear the words of the song, it says,
10:45 "This Child will bring us goodness and light."
10:48 Don't you want to see the light that can only come from Jesus
10:51 who can bring us true joy?
10:55 Let me tell you a story that I read in the book called,
10:57 Chicken Soup for the Soul, Christmas Treasury.
11:00 Young Robin always knew what to get her mother.
11:03 But finding a gift for her father wasn't so easy.
11:06 She wanted to find something special
11:08 that her father could use.
11:09 After all, he was a practical man.
11:12 Robin was really struggling with what to get him.
11:15 But she remembered that her grandmother had once told her
11:19 that flashlights were really useful.
11:21 A flashlight would be perfect.
11:23 A practical gift for a practical dad.
11:27 Robin's father loved the gift.
11:30 He said it was just what he needed.
11:32 Well, it turns out he really did need it.
11:35 Because only a month later he was on a tug boat with
11:38 two co-workers when something awful happened.
11:42 They were sailing home in the dark one evening
11:45 when they came upon a storm.
11:48 It was so cold with a wind chill of negative 60 degrees.
11:51 The boat was leaning back and forth in the wind,
11:54 making it hard to walk around.
11:56 Then the boat started taking on water.
11:59 The boat was sinking.
12:02 Not far away on an old island, several families
12:06 were just sitting down to dinner in their homes.
12:08 One man who lived on the island overheard the boat's
12:11 distress call on the radio and knew that the Coast Guard
12:15 was too far away to help.
12:16 He needed to help them.
12:18 Several men from the island left their dinners
12:20 and climbed into the boat and set out
12:23 to look for the sinking tug boat.
12:26 The men were starting to get discouraged about not finding
12:29 the boat when all of a sudden they saw a strange sight.
12:33 Not far in the distance, light was in the water.
12:36 They drove the boat toward the light and found all three men
12:40 floating in the water.
12:41 In Robin's father's hand was the flashlight she had given
12:45 him for Christmas.
12:47 They were saved.
12:50 That flashlight was beaming straight up as a beacon of light
12:54 for those who would believe and follow it.
12:56 Can you imagine the joy Robin felt to have her father
13:00 safe at home, and to know that her gift
13:02 made all the difference?
13:04 Jesus is our beacon of light who can come to bring real joy
13:09 if we will only follow Him.
13:11 I know I want to follow Jesus.
13:13 He is calling all the faithful to follow Him.
13:16 Let's listen to John Harley, Kenley, and Nia sing,
13:19 O Come All Ye Faithful.
13:30 O come, all ye faithful,
13:38 joyful and triumphant.
13:44 O come ye, O come ye
13:51 to Bethlehem.
13:59 Come and behold Him,
14:06 born the King of angels.
14:12 O come, let us adore Him,
14:19 O come, let us adore Him,
14:26 O come, let us adore Him,
14:34 Christ the Lord.
14:44 The Lord.
14:51 Sing, choirs of angels,
14:58 sing in exultation.
15:05 O sing, all ye citizens,
15:11 of heaven above.
15:19 Glory to God,
15:25 all glory in the highest.
15:32 O come, let us adore Him,
15:40 O come, let us adore Him,
15:47 O come, let us adore Him,
15:55 Christ the Lord.
16:05 The Lord.
16:12 Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
16:18 born this happy morning.
16:25 Jesus to thee be
16:31 all glory given.
16:39 Word of the Father,
16:46 now in flesh appearing.
16:52 O come, let us adore Him,
16:59 O come, let us adore Him,
17:06 O come, let us adore Him,
17:14 Christ the Lord.
17:20 O come, let us adore Him,
17:27 O come, let us adore Him,
17:34 O come, let us adore Him,
17:43 Christ the Lord.
17:59 We do want to show our love for Jesus
18:02 and worship Him for coming to save each one of us.
18:05 Sometimes we forget the real reason to celebrate Christmas;
18:08 is that Jesus Himself is the gift to us.
18:11 And we can say, "Happy birthday, Jesus."
18:25 Happy birthday, Jesus;
18:30 I'm so glad it's Christmas.
18:36 All the tinsels and lights, and the presents are nice,
18:43 but the real gift is You.
18:48 Happy birthday, Jesus;
18:54 I'm so glad it's Christmas.
18:59 All the carols and bells make the holiday swell,
19:06 but it's all about You.
19:11 Happy birthday, Jesus.
19:17 Jesus, I love You.
19:23 Happy birthday, Jesus;
19:29 I'm so glad it's Christmas.
19:35 All the tinsels and lights, and the presents are nice,
19:41 but the real gift is You.
19:47 Happy birthday, Jesus;
19:52 I'm so glad it's Christmas.
19:58 All the carols and bells make the holiday swell,
20:04 but it's all about You.
20:11 Happy birthday, Jesus.
20:18 Jesus, I love You.
20:27 I love You, Jesus.
20:39 Do you love Jesus? I'm sure you do.
20:42 All you have to do is accept Jesus and invite
20:44 Him into your heart.
20:46 And that is when we find real joy.
20:49 I have another story for you about joy that I experienced
20:52 while teaching.
20:53 It was the school's Christmas party and everyone in the class
20:56 participated in a Christmas gift exchange.
20:59 Everyone took turns opening their gifts
21:01 from someone in the class.
21:02 Suzie was excited to see her gift.
21:04 The wrapping paper wasn't very pretty.
21:07 It was wrapped in cartoon newspaper and tied with string.
21:11 Understanding that this gift might be from Emily,
21:14 she carefully opened the gift to uncover the soap.
21:17 This soap hadn't been used, but it did look like it had been
21:20 in someone's house for some time.
21:23 All the kids began laughing and snickering
21:26 while Emily sank farther into her seat.
21:28 Suzie, on the other hand, had looked at me,
21:31 and I realized that Suzie had understood
21:34 what was really important.
21:36 Something just told Suzie that was the best gift
21:40 Emily could give.
21:41 Suzie walked over to Emily and gave her a big hug,
21:44 "Thank you. I love it.
21:45 I will keep it in my drawer and smell it every day.
21:48 It smells like fresh cut flowers."
21:51 Later that evening my family joined Suzie's to make
21:54 an anonymous special gift for Emily's family for Christmas.
21:58 So early Christmas morning two families left a big
22:01 gift basket of goodies.
22:03 The joy came after Christmas when Emily seemed happier
22:06 at school and her father was able to work again.
22:10 The miraculous birth is supposed to bring joy.
22:12 And that joy should be shared with others.
22:15 It's no wonder that so many people call it a holy night.
22:19 Let's listen to Joshua play, O Holy Night.
26:10 Because of that special holy night,
26:12 we have a lot to be happy about and share the joy with others.
26:16 There are so many ways we can share the joy of Christmas:
26:19 baking cookies and sharing them,
26:21 going caroling, and sending surprise gift baskets,
26:24 making cards to give away.
26:26 All those things help bring joy.
26:28 Like this last song, Joy to the World.
26:37 Joy to the world, the Lord is come.
26:42 Let earth receive her King.
26:47 Let every heart prepare Him room,
26:52 and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing,
26:57 and heaven, and heaven and nature sing.
27:03 Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns.
27:08 Let men their songs employ
27:13 while fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
27:18 repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy,
27:23 repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
27:28 He rules the world with truth and grace,
27:33 and makes the nations prove
27:38 the glories of His righteousness
27:43 and wonders of His love, and wonders of His love,
27:48 and wonders, wonders of His love.
27:56 My heart is full of joy.
27:58 I hope yours is too.
28:00 Thank you for joining us.
28:01 And have a joyous Christmas.
28:04 Gloria,
28:11 in excelsis Deo.
28:15 Gloria,
28:22 in excelsis Deo.
