00:11 You know, friends,
00:12 there's some super food out there 00:14 that a lot of young people don't know about, 00:15 and there are some athletes that know about these secrets. 00:18 For example, there's Scott Jurek, 00:20 he's an American ultra marathon runner and winner 00:23 of 16 prestigious ultra marathon titles. 00:26 He holds a personal record of running, to catch this, 00:30 165 miles in a 24 hour period, 00:35 averaging 8.42 seconds per mile. 00:39 Jurek started his transition from meat and potatoes 00:41 to a fully vegan diet 00:43 by looking at all the health problems 00:44 he saw in his family. 00:45 Then you have tennis legend Venus Williams, 00:48 who's one of the most successful 00:49 tennis players in history. 00:51 She is a vegan vegetarian. Then you have David Haye. 00:54 He's a British boxer with world titles 00:56 in two weight categories. 00:58 In 2008, he won three of the four 01:01 major boxing world titles at Cruiserweight. 01:04 He is a vegan vegetarian. 01:06 There's the famous American snowboarder, 01:08 who's a three time Olympic medalist, 01:10 Hannah Teter. 01:12 She also is a vegetarian. 01:14 And then Barny du Plessis, bodybuilding champion in 2014 01:17 Mr. Universe talks about the super food 01:20 of being a vegan vegetarian. 01:22 And then there's the famous 01:24 track and field Olympic gold medal winner Carl Lewis, 01:27 who is also a vegetarian. 01:29 You know, it seems like these super athletes 01:31 learned about God's super food. 01:33 And we're gonna learn about it right from the Garden of Eden, 01:36 the Word of God. 01:37 So join me now for an amazing adventure. 01:58 Good evening, boys and girls. 02:00 And welcome again to Amazing Adventure, 02:03 A Journey for Life with Jesus. 02:04 I like to welcome all of those of you 02:06 here in Michigan and also our friends 02:08 who are joining us across the country 02:09 and around the world, 02:11 part of our Amazing Discovery Adventure into Bible truth. 02:15 Well, we have a very important lesson. 02:17 I think you're gonna enjoy it tonight. 02:19 It's very practical. 02:20 Well, before we get to our song this evening, 02:23 we need to invite Pastor Doug to come forward on stage. 02:25 So, Pastor Doug, come on out. 02:28 Good evening, Pastor Doug. 02:32 All hands on deck. 02:35 Good evening, boys and girls, and friends, who are watching. 02:38 Welcome to an Amazing Adventure. 02:40 We have an amazing program tonight too. 02:42 We do, an important one. "Life is an Adventure." 03:01 Life is an adventure Following the King 03:06 Every day with Jesus Makes us want to sing 03:11 Walking in the spirit He will lead the way 03:15 With his words to guide us Glowing deep inside us 03:21 Nothing can divide us Following the King 03:27 Life is an adventure Following the King 03:32 Every day with Jesus Makes us want to sing 03:37 Conquering with kindness Everywhere we go 03:42 Voices we are raising 03:45 Jesus we are praising 03:47 Life is so amazing Following the King 03:54 Life is so amazing Following the King 04:04 Amen. Thank you very much. 04:05 You may be seated. All right. 04:08 Well, we have some Bible questions 04:10 that come in every night from kids around the country, 04:13 and I'm always excited to hear. 04:16 What kind of questions are coming up? 04:17 We got four great video questions 04:19 that had come in. 04:21 And so we're ready to take a look 04:22 at our first question this evening. 04:24 My name is Mateo. 04:26 I am from Michigan. 04:27 My Bible question is, how can I be saved? 04:30 All right. 04:32 Very important question, did y'all catch it? 04:33 His question is, how can I be saved? 04:35 And, of course, 04:37 that's the purpose of these meetings, 04:38 Pastor Doug, to talk about how a person can be saved? 04:41 You know, the Bible tells us first of all, 04:44 we have a problem. 04:45 The problem is sin. Jesus has the answer. 04:49 It's His salvation. The penalty for sin is death. 04:55 But Jesus said, I don't want you to die 04:57 because I love You so much. 04:58 I will die in your place for your sins. 05:01 I will take the punishment for your sins, 05:04 if you believe and accept it, then I will forgive You, 05:08 and if you then confess your sins, 05:11 tell the Lord you're sorry, repent of your sins. 05:14 He gives you the Holy Spirit to live a new life, 05:17 to walk in a new life. 05:19 So you ask, you believe, 05:21 you receive the gift of eternal life. 05:24 And the Bible says, "You become a new creature." 05:26 It's like a new birth. And you start to follow Jesus. 05:30 And that's the real amazing adventure. 05:31 And we have one of our lessons 05:33 that specifically talks about this science of salvation. 05:37 Okay. 05:39 And we're ready for our next question. 05:40 Hi, my name is Vasti. 05:42 And I live in Ypsilanti, North Dakota. 05:45 My question is, did unicorns ever exist? 05:49 Oh, good question. 05:51 Does the Bible say anything about unicorns existing? 05:55 I think in some translations, it actually talks about, 05:58 I think, the word unicorn does appear. 06:00 It may be the King James Version. 06:02 And many scholars wondered, 06:03 well what was that talking about? 06:07 The word "Uni" means one, like a unicycle. 06:09 Mrs. Batchelor rides a unicycle, it's got one wheel. 06:13 A unicorn is talking about one horn or a single horn. 06:17 They wondered if it was referring to not a horse like 06:20 creature riding on rainbows with wings, 06:24 but talking about the rhinoceros. 06:26 And so if that word unicorn there in the Bible 06:29 was talking about a creature, 06:31 it's probably not talking about 06:33 that mythical horse that you see. 06:35 But it's probably talking about that large African rhinoceros. 06:38 And, you know, long ago 06:40 they not only had rhinoceros in... 06:42 what's the plural? You're from Africa, rhinoceros. 06:44 What's more than one rhinoceros? 06:45 Rhinoceroses? It is? 06:47 Rhinos. Rhinos. There you go. 06:50 But not only did they have them in Africa, 06:52 but they found a lot of skeletons 06:54 of what they called woolly rhinos 06:56 and other rhinos that were even through Europe. 06:58 So ancient Bible writers like Job, 07:01 they were acquainted 07:02 with some of these powerful creatures 07:04 that had one horn. 07:05 Now some of the rhinos have two horns. 07:07 And then there's another kind that actually just has one. 07:09 That's right. Yeah. 07:10 And there's an Indian Rhino too. 07:12 That's right. Yeah. 07:13 Different kinds. All right. 07:14 Ready for our next question. 07:16 Hi, my name is Jude. 07:18 I'm 11 years old, and I'm from Missouri. 07:20 My question is, how do you talk to God 07:23 in a way that He can answer back? 07:25 Okay. 07:27 The question is, how do we talk to God, 07:28 talking about prayer. 07:30 And how do we know if God is answering us back? 07:34 Well, God knows everything, right? 07:38 Jesus said, "Your heavenly Father knows 07:40 what things you have need of before you even ask Him." 07:43 So we're not asking, so that God can be informed, 07:46 you don't have to pray louder for God to hear you, do you? 07:50 He can hear when you whisper a prayer. 07:53 So whenever you pray, God hears you. 07:56 But if you want answers to your prayer, 07:58 there's some guidelines. 07:59 First of all, you talk to God reverently. 08:03 We pray to God in Jesus' name. 08:05 We're not asking God to answer our prayers 08:07 because we earned it or we've deserved it, 08:09 but we're asking for His mercy 08:11 because of His love for His Son 08:13 and Jesus' sacrifice and love for us. 08:15 We pray in Jesus' name. 08:16 Jesus said, "Whatever things you ask in My name, 08:18 believe and you will receive." 08:20 And then pray according to God's will. 08:24 You don't wanna be saying, "You know, Lord, 08:25 I wanna have a million dollars," 08:26 well, you may not be able to handle a million dollars. 08:29 So you pray for things. 08:30 The Bible says, "Ask for the Holy Spirit, 08:33 if you being evil know 08:35 how to give good gifts to your children, 08:37 how much more will your Father in heaven 08:39 give the Holy Spirit to those that ask?" 08:41 Ask for the good things that will help you 08:43 to have true happiness which is walking with God. 08:46 But God hears every prayer. 08:48 It's good. Spend time on your own. 08:51 Talk to God reverently. 08:52 Do you spend time in the morning, 08:54 you should kneel. 08:55 You might kneel on your bed or by your bed. 08:57 I knew a little girl. 08:59 I should say, I knew about a little girl 09:00 that she was afraid, 09:02 she'd forget to pray before school. 09:03 So when she went to sleep at night, 09:05 she threw her shoes under her bed. 09:07 And when she got on her knees to find her shoes, 09:09 she remembered to pray. 09:11 So you wanna always remember to talk to God, 09:13 give Him your life and your heart every day. 09:15 And He will answer your prayers. 09:16 You will see answers to prayer. 09:18 Amen. Absolutely. All right. 09:20 We have our final question for today. 09:23 Hello, my name is Jonica. 09:25 I'm 10 years old. I'm from California. 09:28 And my Bible question is, how shall we outreach 09:30 and tell other people about Jesus? 09:33 Okay. 09:35 Well, that is a question that comes from 09:36 one of our church members over there in California. 09:38 That's right. 09:39 And she's asking how do we outreach 09:41 or share our faith with others? 09:42 Well, the first thing is when you're committed to Jesus, 09:47 you'll be letting your light shine by your example. 09:50 The Bible also tells us that we should study His Word, 09:54 so we know how to give answers. 09:56 Now, you don't have to know everything to share your faith. 10:02 If you know your laws and you were found 10:04 by God's grace, 10:05 you share what Jesus has done for you. 10:07 That He's given you a peace in your heart. 10:09 And so you can be a witness, you can get literature, 10:13 give Christian tracts out, and you can learn 10:16 how to give Bible studies, give out Christian books, 10:18 you can give out amazing facts, study guides, 10:21 like the ones that go with this series. 10:22 So all this is great or DVDs and things like that. 10:25 And so there's a lot of things you can do. 10:27 Talk to people when you get a chance 10:29 and don't be afraid to say you believe in God. 10:32 Everybody in the world today is being intimidated 10:34 by the devil to hide their light under a bush. 10:37 Don't be afraid to let your light shine 10:39 and speak up for Jesus. 10:41 You know what Jesus said? 10:42 "If you're not ashamed of Me, 10:45 in this evil and adulterous generation, 10:47 I will confess your name before My Father 10:50 and the angels in heaven." 10:51 And the Book of Job tells us that 10:53 God was confessing the name of Job in heaven, 10:56 because Job was so faithful on earth. 10:58 So wouldn't you like God to brag about you in heaven? 11:01 Be faithful here. Don't be afraid. 11:03 Don't be ashamed, even in the world 11:05 where people tease you for being a Christian. 11:07 Okay. 11:08 Well, that's it for our Bible questions for today. 11:10 And we'll have some more for tomorrow. 11:11 And I think a few of the questions tomorrow 11:13 are actually gonna be from 11:15 some in our group right here in Michigan. 11:16 All right. So watch for that. 11:17 Answer your Bible questions. 11:19 Well, thank you very much, kids. 11:20 We've got a very important lesson. 11:22 I think we're gonna have 11:23 some fun tonight learning something. 11:24 Now, this lesson can change your life. 11:28 So you actually do live longer. 11:30 We're gonna be talking about God's Super Foods tonight. 11:34 And I wish... Oh, how I wish? 11:38 When I was your age that I knew what I know now. 11:42 But I grew up and I didn't understand 11:44 what the Bible says about God's super foods, 11:47 and I had all kinds of health problems because of it. 11:50 But I feel better now at 60 something years old 11:55 than I did as a kid, before I knew these things. 11:58 Remember our scripture reading, 11:59 "There whatever you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, 12:02 do it all to the glory of God." 12:04 Now, if it's possible for you 12:07 to eat to the glory of God 12:10 and to drink to the glory of God, 12:11 that means it's possible for you to not eat and drink 12:14 to the glory of God. 12:16 Now the best thing to do is to eat the diet 12:19 that God designed for you. 12:20 You know, I think I hear that 12:21 somebody is in the captain's cabin. 12:24 We've got a special guest that's come again tonight 12:27 from the Repto Company and let's see who's coming. 12:31 Oh, Kurt's got a friend. 12:33 All right. 12:35 Now I was introduced 12:37 a little earlier to Kurt's friend. 12:39 We have a couple of young people 12:40 who wanna get an up close personal. 12:41 If you have not been up here before... 12:43 Raise your hands if you have not been up here before. 12:45 You just about jumped out of your seat. 12:47 You can come up, that's okay. 12:48 And you can come up. And you can come up. 12:52 And you can come up. Okay. 12:54 I just had to run up you all. And this is... 12:57 What's his name? His name is Demolition Dan. 13:00 Demolition Dan. 13:02 And I understand that 13:03 he's got great powers of escape. 13:06 Yes. 13:07 He could actually break through like walls in your house 13:09 like sheet rock, you know, 13:11 stuff like that, walls, stone walls. 13:13 And the Lord made Dan 13:14 where he's got just built-in armor. 13:17 And even here on his hand, on the front, he's got like 13:20 burrowing through and this also protects him, 13:22 I suppose when animals bother him. 13:23 Yes. Yup. 13:24 And you guys, kids, wanna feel him? 13:28 I'm just kidding. 13:30 Its shell is hard. Yeah. 13:33 And what kind of tortoise is he? 13:35 He is a Sulcata tortoise. 13:37 A Sulcata? Yes. 13:38 That is actually the third largest 13:40 species of tortoise in the world, 13:41 behind the GalA!pagos. 13:42 And they come from what island? 13:44 They come from Africa. A continent of Africa? 13:45 Yes. Okay. 13:47 And how long do they live? Eighty years. 13:49 Well, estimated 80 years. Wow! 13:52 And is he a carnivore? No. 13:54 He actually eats lots of grasses and vegetable. 13:57 He's a vegetarian. 13:58 He lives a long time, doesn't he? 13:59 Yeah. 14:01 And God made him where he knows 14:02 how to hide himself. 14:03 Can you get him to... Sure. 14:05 Look how far in he can tuck. 14:08 Try to get him. There we go. 14:10 Just about this, animals wanna, 14:11 they can kick him around like a football, 14:13 but they can't hardly get in and it hurts them. 14:15 You want to feel him, kids? 14:17 Go ahead. 14:18 Matter of fact, after you touch him, 14:20 I'm gonna let you guys sit down. 14:21 I'm gonna invite Kurt... 14:23 He's gonna take him up 14:24 the aisle and those of you on the edges, 14:25 if you wanna just get a closer look at Demo Dan, 14:28 you can do that. 14:29 Now, let's give him a hand, okay? 14:30 Thank him for doing that. Thank you very much. 14:34 You know, the most important decision 14:36 a young person can make 14:37 is that decision to follow Jesus 14:39 and begin that amazing adventure to eternity. 14:42 That's why we're so excited to tell you about 14:44 the new Amazing Adventure programs that are available. 14:47 During these nearly 10 hours 14:49 of exciting high definition programs, 14:51 the young people will do science experiments, 14:53 learn about history, nature, encounter some wild animals, 14:57 and most of all, they'll learn about Jesus 14:59 from the Word of God. 15:01 There's a beautifully illustrated Bible Study Guide 15:03 to go along with each of the video presentations. 15:06 These beautiful illustrated 15:08 study guides are full of pictures, 15:09 and puzzles, and Bible stories. 15:11 They'll lead your kids through an 15:13 incredible journey with Jesus. 15:15 And for me, the most exciting thing 15:16 is this new Amazing Adventure series 15:18 goes along with the Amazing Facts Adventure Bible. 15:21 The Bible, the study guides, the DVDs are all designed 15:25 to lead your young person 15:26 on a Journey for Life with Jesus. 15:29 Call the number on your screen 15:30 or contact us at afbookstore.com. 15:35 Mrs. Batchelor and I took a picture of this tortoise, 15:38 it was at the Australia zoo. 15:41 Guess how old this tortoise was? 15:45 A hundred and seventy four when we took the picture. 15:49 And he lived, she lived to 176. 15:54 This tortoise was part of three tortoises 15:58 that Charles Darwin and like 1835, 16:00 he picked up in the GalA!pagos Islands. 16:02 It's a GalA!pagos tortoise, 16:04 they're as big as dinner plates. 16:05 He named them Tom, Dick and Harry. 16:08 Took them to England, 16:09 they're only about five years old then. 16:12 And they didn't do very well 16:13 in the cold wet climate of England 16:15 because they were used to the warm islands. 16:16 So he then sent them back to Australia 16:19 where they were in the Botanical Gardens. 16:21 And they lived and outlived a lot of people 16:25 and keepers one by one. 16:26 Tom and Dick died. 16:28 And then Harry, they thought Harry was Harry 16:31 and they kept trying to get Harry 16:32 to get married and have babies. 16:34 And years later, they found that Harry was Harriet. 16:39 Now, Harry was a vegetarian. 16:42 See, I got pictures over there eating her salad. 16:45 This is the best and the original diet for man. 16:48 That's gonna take us right into our questions. 16:50 Number one. 16:52 Does God care about our bodies and our health? 16:56 Or did Jesus only came to save our souls. 16:59 Does He care about our health and our bodies? 17:01 The Bible says, through a letter of John, 17:04 it says, in Chapter 1:2, 17:07 "I pray that you might prosper in all things, 17:10 just as your soul prospers." 17:12 He says, I pray that you'll prosper 17:14 and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 17:18 And then Jesus, Matthew 4:23, Jesus' ministry, 17:22 "He went around all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, 17:26 preaching the gospel of the kingdom. 17:28 He went teaching and preaching in the church and the country, 17:31 healing all kinds of sickness 17:33 and all kinds of disease among the people." 17:36 Do you ever been sick? Have been really sick? 17:41 And it's no fun to be sick, is it? 17:43 Sometimes you pretend you're sick 17:45 because you didn't do your homework. 17:46 And there's a test at school, 17:48 but sometimes you've really been sick. 17:51 I remember, I went to summer camp. 17:53 The day I got on the bus, 17:55 I was so excited about summer camp. 17:57 I even brought my guinea pig with me. 17:59 The day I got on the bus. 18:01 When I got off the bus, I have a couple little bumps. 18:05 And one of the teacher said, "What's that?" 18:07 I said, "I don't know, it itches." 18:09 They said, "You got chicken pox." 18:12 They put me in the camp infirmary 18:14 and I had to stay in there, just me and my guinea pig 18:17 for the first week of camp, I was so depressed. 18:20 Everyone's laughing and screaming 18:21 outside the window. 18:23 And I was sick. 18:24 You know, Jesus knows it's no fun to be sick, 18:27 and He came to heal our sickness. 18:30 And the Bible says, John 10:10, Christ said, 18:32 "I have come that you might have life, 18:35 and you might have it more abundantly." 18:37 He wants us to have a full exciting life. 18:39 God gave us bodies and He wants us to use them. 18:43 So I need a volunteer. 18:45 I'm gonna go around the backside here. 18:48 I sometimes... Okay, you can come up. 18:51 I want you to look in the chest and see 18:52 if you can find a body? 18:55 What? Absolutely. 19:00 You see a body in there? You did. 19:03 It's a little body. 19:05 You can bring that over here. 19:07 All right. 19:08 Now, God gave us all a body. 19:11 We were made in the image of God. 19:12 And that body, it's actually got 19:14 movable arms and legs. 19:15 Artists use this to draw... 19:17 Don't be afraid. 19:19 I mean, you can move him around a little bit. 19:21 See, pick up the legs, you can make him 19:23 look like he's running. 19:24 I don't think you can turn the head. 19:26 But you got a foot, you got a hand you got legs, 19:30 you got arms, you get elbows, you get toes. 19:33 Now if you lose your arm, can you still be saved? 19:38 Yes. 19:40 If you lose an arm and a leg, can you be saved? 19:43 Yes. 19:45 If you lose an arm, 19:46 a leg and a hand on the other arm, 19:48 can you still be saved? 19:50 Yes. 19:51 If you lose your head, can you be saved? 19:53 No. Yes. 19:55 Who said, "Yes"? No. 20:00 You can't think without your head. 20:03 This is the most important part of your body. 20:05 What's your name? Joshua. 20:06 Joshua. That's good name. 20:08 You know how to say that in Greek? 20:09 Jesus. That's right. 20:13 Yeshua is the Hebrew way of saying Jesus, 20:17 it's just Jesus name. 20:18 It's good name. It means God is Savior. 20:21 This of all the parts of your body, 20:24 these parts of the body are taking commands 20:26 from this part of the body. 20:28 So, hold that with one hand. 20:30 Just hold it with one hand, like with the other hand, 20:32 take your left hand, that's his hand. 20:34 Close your eyes. Hold that one finger. 20:36 Don't open your eyes. Just hold out one finger. 20:38 There you see, you look at that. 20:40 That told that what to do. You can open your eyes now. 20:44 Lift up one foot. Lift up the other foot. 20:48 Now lift them both up at the same time. 20:51 There you go, you see. 20:52 The brain told him what to do. 20:55 The most important part of your body 20:57 is what you've got behind your eyes 20:59 and between your ears, 21:00 it's what's giving commands to all the rest of the body. 21:03 Let's give Joshua a hand. 21:05 You can keep the body that was in the trunk. 21:09 Just don't play with it. 21:12 Your brain is a... 21:14 When you grow up, 21:15 it's about a two and a half pound 21:17 electro chemical computer that is amazing. 21:19 You know, they still don't have a computer that will do 21:21 what the human brain does. 21:23 If they were to build a computer that did 21:25 what the human brain does, it would need to be 21:28 as big as the Empire State Building to hold it. 21:31 You would need the power of Niagara Falls to power it 21:35 and you need the water of Niagara Falls to cool it 21:37 because it would put out so much steam. 21:40 When I'm talking, you know what's happening right now? 21:42 You're hearing, you're translating the sounds 21:44 that are going through the ear. 21:46 You're looking, you're reading my body language 21:47 because as I'm talking, 21:48 I'm giving you physical expressions 21:50 and you're reading all that, you're calculating all that, 21:52 you're putting in and then you're making 21:53 abstract thoughts out of that, you're getting understanding. 21:56 That's a miracle. 21:57 And while you're doing that, your brain is still telling 21:59 your lungs to breathe, your heart to beat. 22:02 And you can feel your friend next to you 22:04 that was pulling the hair on your arm. 22:06 So you also... 22:07 I knew you do that as soon as I said that. 22:11 Your brain is amazing. 22:14 The most important part of your body is here. 22:17 And the devil is attacking the brains of young people. 22:23 Because he doesn't care so much 22:25 about your arms and your legs and your feet 22:26 as much as he cares about your brain. 22:29 If you take care of your brain, 22:30 everything else is gonna be better. 22:33 What you eat, you ever heard the expression, 22:35 you are what you eat? 22:36 What you eat determines a lot about how you feel. 22:41 What kind of food plan did God have for people 22:44 when He made Adam and Eve in creation? 22:47 The Bible says, God told them in Genesis 1:29. 22:51 "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed." 22:56 Those were the nuts obviously. 22:58 "And every tree whose fruit yields seed. 23:01 You got fruits and you have nuts 23:03 and you have grains. 23:04 The original diet for man was fruits, nuts and grains, 23:08 then after sin because God said man could no longer eat 23:11 from the tree of life, what happened? 23:13 He added something else to the diet. 23:16 It says in Genesis 3:18, 23:18 "And you will eat the herb of the field." 23:20 Who knows what another word for that is? 23:22 Vegetables. 23:24 And you think that's a curse, don't you? 23:26 The Bible tells us in Deuteronomy 6:24, 23:28 "The Lord commanded us to do all these statutes 23:31 for our good always, 23:34 that He might preserve us alive." 23:36 The reason God designs what the best food is for us, 23:39 is to help us feel better and live longer. 23:42 When the children of Israel went through the wilderness 23:44 and they ate the food that God gave them for 40 years. 23:47 You know what the Bible says in Psalms 105, 23:49 "After they came out of Egypt, 23:51 and there was not 23:53 one feeble person among His tribes. 23:56 Can you imagine, 2 million people not one sick 23:59 because they'd been following God's health laws. 24:02 Drinking the water that God gave them, 24:04 eating the bread that God gave them, 24:06 you might say, they were eating angels' food. 24:08 Now, in Daniel Chapter 1, it's a very important story 24:12 about young people using self control in what they eat. 24:16 The people of Israel were conquered by the Babylonians. 24:20 The Babylonians decided to take the very brightest 24:23 and best of the royal seed. 24:26 And they would pick some of them out 24:28 and they would train them in the Babylonian culture 24:31 and languages to be representatives 24:33 in the palace for the king. 24:35 And they were allowed to go to the king's palace 24:38 and go to the king's university 24:39 and eat from the king's cafeteria. 24:42 Most of the other slaves were not treated so well. 24:46 But these three... 24:47 actually four young men. 24:49 You know, what their names were? 24:51 Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah. 24:55 Their Babylonian names Belteshazzar, Shadrach, 25:00 Meshach, and Abednego. 25:03 Now when the chief of the young man, 25:06 he's got the chief of the eunuchs. 25:07 He came and he told the young men, all right, 25:09 here's what you're gonna do. 25:10 Here's your study schedule, and here's your diet schedule, 25:12 and you'll be eating from the cafeteria. 25:14 Daniel and his friends said, "We gonna have a problem 25:17 with that because the king's drink is alcoholic 25:20 and we don't do that. 25:22 "And his food, it's, the Bible says, is unclean. 25:26 And it says, Daniel and his friends 25:29 purposed in his heart, 25:30 that he would not defile himself. 25:33 That means you can defile means to make something dirty. 25:37 He would not defile His body with the king's food. 25:40 Even though everyone in Babylon thought it was good. 25:43 Or with the portion of the king's meat 25:45 or the wine which he drank. 25:48 They said, we're not gonna eat that. 25:49 Now, they didn't wanna insult the king. 25:51 They were very thankful that they were 25:52 able to stay in the palace. 25:54 But he knew that God had said, 25:56 "You're not to eat these things 25:58 and you're not to drink these things." 26:00 Some people say, "Well, 26:01 when you're in Rome, you do what the Romans do. 26:03 Or when you're in Babylon, 26:05 you do what the Babylonians do." 26:06 But they said, "No, 26:08 my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, 26:10 we're not going to defile our bodies." 26:11 That's 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, "Don't you know 26:16 that you are the temple of God 26:18 and that the spirit of God dwells in you?" 26:21 Notice this, "If anyone defiles the temple of God, 26:25 him will God," what? 26:28 "Destroy, for the temple of God is holy, 26:32 which temple you are." 26:34 You are an amazing, miraculous creation of God. 26:36 And He wants you to care for your body, 26:38 take care of your body, 26:40 not only because you'll feel better, 26:41 but so you can glorify Him 26:43 in your body that belongs to Him. 26:45 So what did Daniel and his friends do? 26:48 They told, Asphenez, 26:50 the chief of the eunuchs, they said, 26:51 "Look, we make a deal with you. 26:53 Give us 10 days." 26:56 Prove your services... "Test us for 10 days. 26:59 Let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink. 27:03 And then you check us out." 27:04 And after 10 days, you see, if we don't look healthier than 27:08 all of the other young people that are eating 27:10 from the king's cafeteria, 27:12 where they have the unclean animals 27:13 and the alcoholic wine, 27:15 food that have been sacrificed to idols. 27:18 He said, "Let's prove it." 27:21 So he said, "Well, that doesn't sound dangerous." 27:24 And he saw they were good young men, 27:26 they were very polite in their request. 27:28 Notice what the Bible says. 27:31 "At the end of the ten days, their features appeared 27:35 better and fair and fatter in flesh 27:38 than all of the young men who ate the portion 27:41 of the king's delicacies. 27:43 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about 27:47 which the king examined them. 27:49 He found them, Daniel and his three friends 27:51 were ten times better 27:54 than all of the astrologers and the magicians, 27:56 all the wise men and all of his kingdom." 27:59 These young men, by eating right, 28:02 they felt so much better. 28:03 Now when I grew up, 28:05 I didn't know much about eating. 28:07 You know, we ate all kinds of pagan things 28:11 and I never felt very good 28:13 and I didn't do good at the school. 28:14 I think half of it is because I wasn't eating very good. 28:16 I didn't know. My mother would work late. 28:19 My brother and I would get ourselves breakfast 28:21 and I would eat a Hostess Twinkie, 28:23 a Fig Newton, a cup of tea or coffee. 28:25 And go to school and I'd be. 28:28 And I couldn't pay attention, and my grades were bad. 28:30 I went to 14 different schools, 28:33 because I got in so much trouble, 28:34 I had bad grades. 28:35 After I learned 28:37 what the Bible says about health, 28:39 I went back to college, and I had a 4.0 average, 28:44 which is about the highest score you can get. 28:46 Because I was eating better and taking care of myself 28:50 and I had a much better success then. 28:54 So, why did Daniel and his friends 28:56 refuse the drink the king's wine? 29:00 "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, 29:04 and whoever is led astray by it is not wise." 29:09 The Bible says, "No drunkards will enter 29:11 the kingdom of God." 29:13 Alcohol is bad news. 29:16 Listen, you know the story of John the Baptist? 29:18 When the angel came to Zachariah and said, 29:20 you're gonna have a son, 29:22 he's gonna be filled with the Holy Spirit. 29:23 He's going to introduce Jesus. 29:26 But he said, he will drink neither wine or strong drink, 29:30 but he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. 29:32 Notice the difference. 29:34 Which spirit do you wanna be full of? 29:36 Have any of you ever noticed you drive by liquor store? 29:39 And they'll be a sign that says wine, beer, spirits. 29:43 Have you ever seen that? Wine, beer and spirits. 29:46 Why wouldn't a drink, they're not good spirits. 29:49 You got to pick what kind of spirit you want. 29:51 You want the Holy Spirit? 29:52 The Spirit that comes on people 29:54 when they're drunk is really a disgusting spirit. 29:57 Christians should not drink any alcohol. 30:00 But didn't Jesus turn the water into wine? 30:02 He turned water into pure grape juice 30:05 because it represented His blood. 30:07 And at the last supper, Jesus said, 30:09 "I'm gonna give you this grape juice." 30:11 He uses the word wine because that's the only word 30:13 for grape juice in the Bible. 30:14 "I'm gonna give it to you, and I will not drink it again 30:17 until I drink it with you new wine, 30:20 like grape juice in My Father's Kingdom." 30:22 Christians should not drink any alcohol. 30:25 It causes so much suffering. 30:27 Strongest man in the world, who was he? 30:29 Samson. 30:30 What did the angel say to Samson's mother? 30:31 What was the name of Samson's mother? 30:33 Who knows? 30:35 It doesn't say. That's just a trick question. 30:38 She's called Manoah's wife. 30:40 But the angel appears to her and he says, 30:43 "Therefore be careful and drink no wine 30:45 or strong drink and eat nothing unclean. 30:48 And you're going to have a son that is gonna end up 30:51 being the strongest physical human 30:53 that ever lived." 30:55 And, you know, when Samson got in trouble, 30:58 he was at Delilah's house and he started to drink again. 31:01 He started to hang around with the vineyards 31:03 and he lost his hair and he lost his strength, 31:05 until he repented. 31:07 Christian should not drink. 31:09 What was it about the king's meat 31:12 that Daniel knew would defile him? 31:14 Now, Daniel was said, "He will not defile himself 31:17 with a portion of the king's meat." 31:19 What was it? 31:20 Are there some meats that are unclean? 31:22 Yes. 31:23 The best diet for humans is a vegetarian diet. 31:28 You may have heard a few years ago, 31:30 the National Geographic did the study to find out 31:34 where in the world are the people 31:35 who live the longest. 31:37 There are three places in the world, 31:39 the study called the Blue Zones. 31:41 Who are the people that live the longest? 31:43 You've got the people in Okinawa, Japan. 31:47 They live a long time. I've been there. 31:49 You've got the people that live in Sardinia. 31:52 They eat a very simple Mediterranean diet. 31:55 And the other group was 31:57 Seventh-day Adventists in Southern California. 31:59 A concentration of Seventh-day Adventists, 32:01 Loma Linda had the longest lifespan 32:03 and it was connected 32:04 with not only their keeping the Sabbath, 32:06 but their vegetarian, healthy eating habits. 32:10 You will live a longer, stronger life. 32:12 But God said, "Look, if you're gonna eat meat, 32:16 do it very sparingly 32:17 and it needed to be the clean meat. 32:19 God allowed some things not because he wanted it, 32:22 but because of the hardness of our hearts, 32:23 He made certain laws. 32:25 He said, when they entered the ark, 32:28 Noah took the animals how? 32:30 Two by two, if they were unclean. 32:35 Now people sing the song and the animals went on two 32:37 by two, two by two, two by two 32:38 and they forget about the sevens. 32:40 The Bible says, "You'll take with you 32:42 seven of each clean animal, the male and his female." 32:46 That's Genesis 7:2, "Take two of the animals 32:49 that are unclean, the male and his female." 32:52 Now right after the flood or before the flood, 32:55 how long were people living? 32:58 Noah, 950 years. 33:02 Adam, 930 years. 33:05 Methuselah, who knows, 969 years. 33:09 But during the flood all the vegetation was destroyed. 33:13 Noah took the clean animals by sevens on the ark. 33:16 And so as an emergency, whenever they did a sacrifice 33:19 they were allowed to eat of the clean animals. 33:21 They didn't do it very often. 33:23 But look at what happened to the lifespan of man. 33:26 In this chart here. 33:28 Those guys are the ones who lived 900 years, 33:30 each of those lines 33:31 is 100 years right after the flood, 33:32 look at how the lifespan went from 900 to 70. 33:36 And from the days when King David rode, 33:39 our days are threescore and 10, that means 70, a score is 20. 33:43 And if by reason of strength we live fourscore that's 80. 33:47 It's with pain and struggles. 33:51 But look, they started eating meat as a regular 33:53 part of the diet and their life spans went... 33:57 In heaven, are we going to eat animals? 33:59 No. 34:00 Are you gonna be running around in heaven 34:01 trying to catch a chicken and cut off its head and...? 34:05 When Adam named the animals, 34:08 did Adam look at the cow and say, Big Mac. 34:12 And then he looked at the chicken, 34:14 he said, Big Nuggets and KFC? 34:17 No, they were his friends. 34:19 They didn't kill and eat the animals. 34:20 That was something that came because of sin. 34:21 Now God said, "If you gonna eat animals," 34:23 He said, "Here's the rule, only the clean animals," 34:27 and notice, "Among the animals which divide the hoof, 34:30 a cloven hoof and chewing the cud, 34:33 you may eat." 34:34 And that would be goat. 34:36 You had to have both characteristics, 34:38 not just the... 34:39 A camel chews the cud, but it doesn't divide the hoof. 34:41 It's unclean. 34:43 And Jesus made fun 34:45 of the scribes and the Pharisees 34:46 because they were straining 34:47 their water to get the bugs out. 34:49 But then they were eating camel steak. 34:51 He said, you're hypocrites, you're straining a gnat 34:54 and swallowing a camel. 34:55 You're not supposed to eat camel, they're unclean. 34:57 And some animals have a cloven hoof, 34:59 but they don't chew the cud. 35:01 What's that? Pigs, swine, hogs. 35:05 "The swine, the pig is unclean for you 35:07 because it does have a cloven hoof, 35:09 but it does not chew the cud. 35:12 You shall not eat their flesh, 35:13 you shall not touch their bodies." 35:15 The Bible says, "They are an abomination." 35:17 And yet a lot of people eat 35:20 prosciutto, bacon, pork, ham, 35:24 chitlins, and they eat every part of the pig. 35:27 They eat its snout to its tail, pickle pig's feet, its head. 35:33 Now you see it all that. 35:35 When I was living with my dad, I told you, 35:37 I ate like a pagan. 35:38 We ate turtle steak. I've eaten rattlesnake. 35:42 I've eaten frog's legs. 35:43 I've eaten all the snails, the escargot. 35:47 I look back now. 35:48 That's a long time ago, but I was sick all the time. 35:52 You know, they took out my tonsils. 35:55 There would have been nothing wrong with them. 35:57 But they took out my tonsils 35:58 because I always had a sore throat. 36:01 Well, the reason I always had a sore throat is 36:03 because I was eating all kinds of candy and ice cream 36:05 and if I've just been eating right, 36:07 I'd probably still have my tonsils today. 36:10 And I'd be able to sing better. 36:11 How many of you know that your parents ever say that you, 36:14 this little piggy, they take your toes when you're little. 36:17 They go, this little piggy went to the market. 36:19 This little piggy stayed home. 36:21 This little piggy had roast beef. 36:24 See a pig won't even eat pork. 36:26 The pig was eating roast beef. 36:30 Pigs, you know, 36:32 when you don't take care of your room, 36:34 your mother comes in, she looks at your room 36:35 and she says, this looks like a deer meadow. 36:38 Oh, she never says that. 36:39 She says, it looks like a what? 36:41 A pig van. 36:43 Because pigs are about the filthiest animals. 36:45 Now, pigs are smart so are dogs, 36:48 but you're not supposed to eat dogs 36:49 and you're not supposed to eat pigs. 36:52 Now certain animals God has are scavengers. 36:56 You're not supposed to eat the scavengers. 36:59 Sharks, scavengers, they're unclean. 37:01 Skunks, scavengers, they're unclean. 37:04 I was driving down the road on the way here the other night, 37:07 a dear got hit by a car, very sad, 37:10 but a vulture was there having lunch. 37:14 Vultures, scavengers. Would you eat a vulture? 37:17 No. Pigs eat garbage. 37:20 Why would you eat a garbage can? 37:23 You know, the most important decision 37:24 a young person can make 37:26 is that decision to follow Jesus 37:28 and begin that amazing adventure to eternity. 37:31 That's why we're so excited to tell you about 37:32 the new Amazing Adventure programs 37:34 that are available. 37:36 During these nearly 10 hours 37:38 of exciting high definition programs, 37:40 the young people will do science experiments, 37:42 learn about history, nature, encounter some wild animals, 37:45 and most of all, they'll learn about Jesus 37:48 from the Word of God. 37:49 There's a beautifully illustrated Bible Study Guide 37:52 to go along with each of the video presentations. 37:55 These beautiful illustrated 37:56 study guides are full of pictures, 37:58 and puzzles, and Bible stories. 38:00 They'll lead your kids through an 38:01 incredible journey with Jesus. 38:03 And for me, the most exciting thing 38:05 is this new Amazing Adventure series goes along with 38:08 the Amazing Facts Adventure Bible. 38:10 The Bible, the study guides, the DVDs are all designed 38:14 to lead your young person 38:15 on a Journey for Life with Jesus. 38:17 Call the number on your screen or contact us 38:20 at afbookstore.com. 38:24 You know, the Bible says, 38:27 I'll read it to you, Isaiah 66:17, 38:30 "For with fire and with My sword 38:32 I will plead with all flesh says the Lord. 38:34 Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, 38:38 who go to the gardens after an idol in its mists, 38:41 eating swine," 38:43 you know what a swine is, "swine's flesh, 38:45 the abomination and the mouse." 38:48 People will eat a ham sandwich, would you eat a mouse sandwich? 38:51 They do in some parts of the world. 38:54 There are people in places, they eat rats, they dogs, 38:57 they eat all kinds of things. 38:59 And the Bible says, "It's unclean." 39:01 Now you never gonna guess who this is. 39:02 I don't know if you can see it in the picture there. 39:06 That's me. 39:08 When I was a little younger, and I had a business, 39:12 I would drive around, I had a refrigerated cooler 39:16 in the back of my car. 39:18 You can't read the sign, but it says, 39:19 "Doug Batchelor's wholesale prime beef steaks." 39:22 And I used to sell steak around Southern California 39:26 in the deserts there. 39:27 And they were with their prime steaks 39:29 and I'd buy them from the meat packers 39:31 and I butchered them up myself 39:33 and I'd sell them prime choice inspected. 39:36 And one of my customers said, 39:37 can you get me some USDA inspected pork? 39:40 I said, well, I'll check and I was young. 39:42 I didn't know much. 39:43 I went and talked to a friend, he laughed. 39:44 He said, Doug, you can't get graded pork that way. 39:47 He said, when they sell pork, 39:49 they sell papers that tell you to cook it well 39:52 because you can get Trichina worms. 39:56 Pigs, they got a lot of disease. 39:59 And the Bible says, "You should never eat 40:00 the blood of any animal or the fat." 40:03 And a lot of disease in our country comes 40:06 because of people eating so many animal products 40:08 and now they're giving the animals in the farms 40:10 injections and antibiotics 40:11 and then that affects us as we eat it. 40:14 And I guess you can tell how I feel, but I'm telling you 40:17 because I've learned the hard way. 40:18 I've been on both sides. 40:20 I am so much better off now physically 40:22 because I follow God's practices. 40:24 Now the animals, two rules for the animals. 40:27 If you're gonna eat an animal that needed 40:29 cloven hoof and what else? 40:31 Chew the cud. 40:33 If you're gonna eat a fish, what did it need? 40:35 Fins and scales. 40:37 These you can eat of all that are in the waters 40:39 whatever has fins and scales, it needed both. 40:42 Tuna, it's got really little scales, 40:43 but tuna had fins and scales. 40:45 Catfish, unclean, they're scavengers. 40:49 My brother and I were fishing when he was about your age, 40:53 off the back porch. 40:54 My dad's house was right on the bay in Miami Beach. 40:57 Brother caught a catfish, 40:58 he's trying to take the hook out. 40:59 The spine, the dorsal fin from the catfish 41:02 poke my brother's finger. 41:03 The infection was so bad, and the toxin so bad, 41:06 he can never bend his finger again 41:09 from the toxins in a catfish, and so nasty. 41:13 The Bible says, 41:14 "If it didn't have fins and scales, 41:15 all these in the seas or rivers that does not have 41:18 fins and scales that move in all of the waters," 41:22 it says, "they are an abomination to you." 41:25 Shrimp and crab and snails and clams 41:28 and I heard a report on the news yesterday. 41:32 They're having people in the Chesapeake Bay area, 41:35 they're getting what they call a flesh eating bacteria 41:38 that kills people makes them sick. 41:40 They amputate their limbs because of the bacteria. 41:43 And it comes from shellfish. 41:45 They said that on the news yesterday. 41:47 God knew what He was talking about. 41:49 So that's the rule for the fish. 41:51 What about birds? 41:53 The rule for the bird is really a principle. 41:56 The birds that were unclean for food. 41:58 It says every raven after its kind, 42:00 the owl the nighthawk, 42:02 the cuckow, the hawk after its kind." 42:04 The vulture, the eagles, the raptors, carnivorous birds, 42:08 ducks, don't eat. 42:09 A foraging bird, chicken, turkey, quail, 42:14 you could technically... 42:16 Now New York City, we used to have 42:17 tens of thousands of pigeons. 42:19 Technically they're clean, 42:20 but I'd never eat a New York pigeon. 42:22 I won't tell you why. 42:24 Anyway, so these animals, they said, 42:27 if you're gonna eat an animal, it had to be a clean animal. 42:29 But today, I'm not so sure that safe to eat any animals. 42:32 What does God say about our food? 42:35 "The Lord commanded us to observe these statutes 42:38 and to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, 42:43 that He might preserve us alive." 42:45 Now, we talked about the clear black and white 42:48 idea of what you should eat, what's clean, what's unclean. 42:51 But what about eating temperately using some wisdom? 42:56 All right. 42:57 I need my table up here for our crew. 43:03 And I need... Let me think. 43:05 I need four kids I guess. 43:10 If you've raised your hand before. 43:12 I'm not been up. 43:13 You're voting, you wanna come up? 43:15 You can come up. Okay. 43:16 You can. I know. 43:17 Let me see here. Pastor Doug, I'm not been up. 43:19 You're gonna come up or you haven't been up, yet? 43:20 All right. 43:22 since you said nicely, you come on up. 43:23 Three and I'll get one from over here. 43:25 This group's been quieter than that group. 43:28 So, all right, let me see. You right here on the inside. 43:30 Yep, sorry. Yep, there we go. Pastor Doug. 43:33 Did I pick, like one girl from right there. 43:34 Come on. 43:35 Let's see here what we got going on. 43:37 All right. 43:39 Stand behind the table here, boys. 43:40 We're gonna do a little experiment, boys and girl. 43:44 I'm sure you guys have never seen this stuff before. 43:47 Yes. 43:53 Okay, I don't need to advertise. 43:55 I love Sprite. Now don't say it, yet. 43:58 You might be sorry you did. 44:06 Delicious. 44:09 All right. 44:13 Let's see here. 44:15 I just want you to see this yourself. 44:23 Do you have any idea how much sugar 44:25 is in this stuff that people are eating? 44:28 No. Well, let's find out here. 44:32 What's your name? Philip. 44:33 Philip, you got the spoon? 44:36 How many teaspoons of sugar 44:37 do you think are in this candy? 44:38 You've never eaten one of these, have you? 44:40 I have. You have? 44:41 I appreciate your honesty. 44:42 I have too, but it's been a long time. 44:45 Okay. All right. 44:48 I want you to put a teaspoon in here. 44:49 Let's count how many he puts in. 44:51 Let's start with one. He put a full teaspoon in. 44:53 All right. Just try not to spill too much. 44:55 There we go. 44:56 One, how much, let's count together. 44:58 Two. Keep going. 45:00 Three, four, 45:05 five, six. 45:08 Now put half of a teaspoon in it. 45:11 That's good. 45:13 All right. Six and three quarters roughly. 45:17 And that's how much sugar is in one candy bar. 45:21 Let's not count the oils in there. 45:22 Okay, we're not done. No, wait. 45:24 Let's say, let's suppose you had that for lunch 45:26 and you wanted to wash it down with a Sprite. 45:30 So I tell you what? 45:31 Start putting teaspoons in it. 45:32 So how many we got in here so far? 45:34 Six and three quarters. 45:36 All right. Put in another one. 45:37 That you will say a full tea spoons now. 45:39 Come on, don't mess around. 45:42 Seven, eight. 45:44 Three, let me just... three, keep going. 45:46 Keep going. 45:47 Four, five. 45:49 I'm counting up the soda. 45:51 Six. 45:53 Keep going. Seven. 45:54 Keep going. 45:56 Eight, nine, ten. 45:59 All right. 46:01 When do you think we're going to stop? 46:02 Keep going, 11, 12. 46:05 All right. Hang on a second. 46:07 We're not done. 46:08 Keep going, 46:10 13, 14, 15. 46:15 You've not done a cooking show yet, have you? 46:17 Sixteen. One more. 46:18 That's good. All right. Great. 46:20 Yeah, but half of its on the table. 46:23 Now if you were sitting down for breakfast, 46:26 and you got some cereal, 46:28 you guys you don't like 46:29 eat sugar frosted flakes, your coco puffs. 46:31 I eat coco puffs. Coco puffs. 46:34 Yeah. I eat coco puffs. 46:39 If you sat down with your coco puffs 46:40 and you said, okay, mom, 46:42 I'm gonna put a little more sugar on my cereal. 46:43 And you went one, two, three, would she stopped you? 46:47 Yes. Yes. 46:49 No, if my dad was there. 46:52 My mom would, but my dad wouldn't. 46:53 Your mom would and your dad wouldn't. 46:56 Okay, if you have a candy bar and a 7Up, 47:00 this is how much sugar you have. 47:02 But now the coke has got... 47:05 Add another one for the coke. 47:06 Add one more for the coke. 47:10 One more. Yeah. 47:12 All right. 47:14 So the coke has got 16. 47:16 And add two more now for the Pepsi. 47:22 Yeah. 47:24 So if you have a snickers candy bar 47:25 and a Pepsi, 47:27 this is how much sugar you're putting in your body. 47:28 You realize sugar is a chemical. 47:30 This has a chemical reaction on your body. 47:33 And people are getting diabetes 47:35 in epidemic proportions for that. 47:38 Now, the Reese's, if you were to eat the Snickers 47:42 and the Reese's, we'd have to call 911. 47:46 Because this has got 6.75 teaspoons of sugar 47:50 that's got 9.5 teaspoons of sugar in it. 47:54 And kids go to school, 47:55 and they wonder why they can't pay attention. 47:58 The parents are getting a medication, 48:00 and they go on to the doctor. 48:01 And they're getting colds, they got a sore throat, 48:02 their nose is running you gonna... 48:04 What's the problem? 48:05 One candy bar is this completely. 48:09 I've been thinking. Let me show you. 48:11 All right. 48:12 Let me show you something here. I'll put on the screen. 48:15 A 12-ounce can of soda, 39 grams of sugar, 48:18 that's 9 1/3 teaspoons. 48:21 And look how much sugar. 48:23 See the screen up here. 48:26 Look at how much sugar kids ate in 1820, 48:30 the average American in a year eats six pounds of sugar. 48:34 That's all year. 48:35 Now, the average American eats 150 pounds of sugar. 48:40 That's three pounds, one person, a week. 48:43 And some of you are eating mine 48:45 because I'm not eating that much. 48:47 So some people are eating 200 pounds of sugar a year. 48:52 Four pounds a week. 48:54 You guys think I'm gonna let you 48:55 take that back to your seats? 48:57 You better think again? No. 48:59 I'm not giving that away, am I? 49:01 Why? I'm telling you guys... 49:02 No, no, you don't get the candy bar. 49:04 Especially you. You're already wired. 49:06 Okay, thank you. Let's give them a hand. 49:13 Well, give me something. 49:17 Thank you very much. 49:18 You know, I love you too much to give you that stuff. 49:21 Now I know some of you haven't, 49:23 but I want you to think about what the dangers are. 49:25 The Bible says, "Eat that which is good." 49:28 Now some people say, well, 49:29 Pastor Doug, aren't we supposed to eat meat? 49:31 Because we've got these canine teeth, 49:34 which means we're carnivores. 49:36 You know, we're supposed to rip and tear meat. 49:37 That's nonsense. 49:39 You know this guy? 49:41 Does he have canine teeth? Yes. 49:43 He's a vegetarian. 49:45 One of the most powerful animals. 49:48 Giraffe, tallest animal, vegetarian. 49:51 Elephant, biggest animal, vegetarian. 49:54 How bigger an elephant's teeth? 49:56 He got tusks. 49:58 So the idea that we're designed to eat meat is not true. 50:01 The humans' digestive system 50:02 is designed to be a vegetarian system. 50:05 And it's already proven now. 50:06 Some of the marathon runners 50:08 and the best athletes are not only vegetarians, 50:10 they are vegan vegetarians. 50:12 I'm a vegan vegetarian now 50:13 because I learned so much about it. 50:15 What should guide me in choosing 50:17 how I live and eat? 50:19 "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, 50:22 do all to the glory of God." 50:24 This lady in the picture was a member of our church, 50:26 her name was Viola Cook. 50:28 She lived to 111 years of age. 50:31 Actually, she's 111 in this picture here 50:33 was a vegetarian her whole life. 50:36 Does God's word have more secrets 50:38 for a longer, stronger life? 50:40 Let's go through some of these very quickly. 50:42 First of all, "Eat regular meals." 50:45 The Bible says, 50:47 "Feast at the proper time for strength, 50:49 not for drunkenness." 50:50 B, "Have self control." 50:54 As Paul said, "I discipline my body 50:56 and I bring it into subjection." 50:57 1 Corinthians. You need to get exercise. 50:59 And don't overeat. 51:02 I hope that's a vegan burger. 51:05 Something else that will make you live longer. 51:08 "A merry heart does good like a medicine," Be joyful. 51:13 It actually releases endorphins 51:14 that keeps you healthy and fights disease. 51:17 Helping others will help you live longer 51:19 and be healthy. 51:21 Share your bread with a hungry. 51:23 And it says, "Your health will spring forth speedily." 51:27 And it says, "Then trust in the Lord, 51:29 fear the Lord, depart from evil." 51:31 Notice what it does for you. 51:32 "It will be health to your flesh, 51:35 and strength to your bones." 51:38 Trust and honor God, live a holy life. 51:41 Something else very important in good health. 51:44 Six days thou shalt labor. 51:49 It's not only do we keep the Sabbath. 51:51 He says, "Six days you shall labor." 51:53 God wants us to be doing our work. 51:55 And then of course not only do we work, 51:58 "The sleep of a laboring man is sweet. 52:01 If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat." 52:04 But then we also gonna need to rest. 52:07 There is a big problem in North America 52:09 and a lot of places we travel, India, Mexico... 52:12 Do you know what country 52:14 in the world consumes the most sugar? 52:16 North America, Germany is next, Mexico is number eight, 52:21 just pounds and pounds of sugar. 52:23 And there's an epidemic of diabetes 52:26 that is gonna bankrupt the medical expenses 52:29 of our country in a few years, if something doesn't happen. 52:32 Kids are just eating so much sweets and sugar 52:35 and oil and stuff. 52:36 And chemicals, it's not just the sugar 52:41 in the Pepsi and the Coke. 52:43 You know, it's not just the caffeine 52:44 that wires people out, 52:46 but there's even phosphoric acid 52:47 and things in there that you can use 52:50 that to clean the battery terminals on a car. 52:52 I mean, it's very powerful stuff 52:54 and kids and everyone are consuming these things, 52:56 because the commercials make them think it's good. 52:59 Another important point in living 53:01 a long healthy strong life, water. 53:04 Drink plenty of water. 53:06 Now you guys are all getting a gift tonight. 53:07 I told you, 53:09 everybody's gonna get something. 53:12 You're all gonna get 53:13 an Amazing Adventure water bottle here, 53:15 okay, tonight for your backpacks. 53:22 When you go and you got your whistles, 53:24 I know your parents 53:26 love you're going around camp and whistling like that. 53:29 They're gonna really like us. 53:31 "Don't use anything that harms your body. 53:34 Listen carefully to me. 53:36 Eat what is good." 53:38 And not only do we eat good, you need fresh air. 53:41 And why would you want to pollute the air 53:44 that you're breathing? 53:46 Pastor Doug used to smoke. 53:48 I'm glad that I praise the Lord that He helped me quit smoking. 53:52 But cigarettes are bad news. 53:56 Smoking is the number one disease 53:58 that is avoidable. 54:00 It costs so much disease or sickness 54:02 and problems that are easily avoidable. 54:04 "Be temperate in all things. 54:07 Everyone who competes for the prize 54:08 is temperate in all things. 54:11 And our bodies need rest." 54:13 Now I'm gonna have 54:15 one more young person come up here. 54:17 And well, maybe two. All right. 54:20 You can come up. 54:21 See if you can find something 54:23 that's drivable in the chest there. 54:25 And you haven't been up yet? 54:27 I haven't been up yet. 54:28 I was pointing to him, but nice try. 54:30 Come on up. All right. Look in the chest. 54:32 See, if you find something 54:33 you can drive in the chest here. 54:34 And I'll close with this story. 54:36 But I want you all be good now. Listen. 54:39 So somebody comes... 54:40 Keep looking. There you go. 54:42 Somebody comes and they say, Pastor Doug, 54:46 can I borrow your truck? 54:48 We've got to take a little mission trip. 54:50 And we're gonna use it for a week. 54:51 And I say, okay. 54:52 So just hold those for a second. 54:54 You can turn it around so people can see it. 54:56 Okay. 54:57 So I lend them my new car. 55:00 So they take my car and they drive it 55:04 and they don't check the oil. 55:06 And they don't check the air in the tires 55:08 and they don't check the water in the radiator 55:10 and they run it and run it. 55:11 They don't stay on the road. 55:13 They go off road, they go cross country, 55:14 but it's not a four wheel drive. 55:16 And they beat the smithereens out of my car 55:18 and they run it into trees and other cars. 55:20 Finally after a week, they come back 55:24 and the car I can see it coming over the hill 55:29 is making this terrible banging noise. 55:32 Smoke is billowing out from the tailpipe. 55:36 The tires are worn off 55:38 and sparks are flying out from the rim 55:39 because they're driving on the rims, 55:41 there's not even any tires left. 55:43 One headlight is hanging out like a dislocated eyeball. 55:48 The broken windshield, they get out of the car, 55:50 they slammed the door, it falls off. 55:53 The hood pops up, steam is issuing out. 55:56 And they say thanks, Pastor Doug, 55:58 for lending me your car. 55:59 We had a great time. 56:01 Can we borrow it again next month? 56:04 Am I gonna lend them my car? No. 56:08 All right. Listen now. Yes. 56:11 You got one life, you have one body, 56:15 you've only got one chance with that one body. 56:17 Jesus is offering you an eternal body when He comes. 56:22 If you don't take care of the one He's given you, 56:26 He's not very likely to give you 56:28 a glorified eternal body, 56:29 if you deliberately wreck the one He's given you. 56:32 You need to glorify God in your body, 56:34 whatever you eat, 56:35 whatever you drink, do all to the glory of God. 56:38 Are you willing to do that, friends? 57:29 You know, the most important decision 57:31 a young person can make is that decision 57:33 to follow Jesus and begin 57:35 that amazing adventure to eternity. 57:38 That's why we're so excited to tell you 57:39 about the new Amazing Adventure programs 57:41 that are available. 57:43 During these nearly 10 hours 57:44 of exciting high definition programs, 57:47 the young people will do science experiments, 57:49 learn about history, nature, 57:50 encounter some wild animals, and most of all, 57:54 they'll learn about Jesus from the Word of God. 57:56 There's a beautifully illustrated Bible Study Guide 57:59 to go along with each of the video presentations. 58:02 These beautiful illustrated study guides 58:04 are full of pictures, and puzzles, and Bible stories. 58:07 They'll lead your kids through 58:08 an incredible journey with Jesus. 58:10 And for me, the most exciting thing 58:12 is this new Amazing Adventure series goes along 58:14 with the Amazing Facts Adventure Bible. 58:17 The Bible, the study guides, 58:18 the DVDs are all designed to lead your young person 58:22 on a Journey for Life with Jesus. 58:24 Call the number on your screen 58:26 or contact us at afbookstore.com. |
