01:20 Now, let me tell you what happened, and then we'll get 01:22 to the answer. 01:23 So, with the conversion of Constantine and Christianity 01:27 being legalized--and suddenly it's very popular--all over Rome 01:30 they had all these pagan priests. 01:33 Constantine said, "Christianity is legalized." 01:35 His mother became a Christian, and the pagan priest said, 01:38 "Well, I'd like to stay on the government payroll, I'll be a 01:41 Christian," and all of these pagans began to join the church 01:46 before they were converted or even taught. 01:48 In fact, when Constantine was fighting the battle of 01:52 Maximilian and he came to the Tiber River, he claimed to see a 01:55 vision where he was to conquer under the sign of the cross, and 01:59 they began to paint red crosses on their shields, and he ordered 02:03 his army for good luck to march through the Tiber River, and he 02:09 says, "I'm going to baptize the whole lot of you, march through 02:12 the river." 02:13 Well, they had not been taught, and so you got all of these dry 02:17 pagans that go through the river, and they come up wet 02:20 pagans, but they're being told, "You're Christians now." 02:23 They have no idea what that means, and they have all these 02:26 idols all over Rome. 02:28 They had more idols than tiles on the rooftop in Rome, and they 02:33 said, "What do we do with our idols?" 02:35 And they said, "Well, let's change their names, give them 02:37 Christian names. 02:40 And Diana, we'll call her Mary; and Jupiter, Apollo, Mercury: 02:44 Peter, James, and John." 02:46 And all of a sudden, idolatry just swept into the church. 02:52 And the priests, instead of being like the people--you know, 02:56 Jesus did not dress in special vestments, he dressed like a 03:00 carpenter--but now they started to priest for an upper class. 03:06 And they said, "You know, we better not give the Bibles to 03:08 the people, if you give the Bibles to the people, 03:10 they're going to find out salvation is a gift 03:14 and we've been selling it. 03:16 And if they want forgiveness, they've got to pay indulgences 03:19 to the church." 03:21 And all of a sudden, the priests became a special class, and they 03:26 were living in palaces, and the people were being ground down, 03:30 and the religion became a government institution. 03:36 That's how the capital of Christianity moved from 03:38 Jerusalem to Rome. 03:41 You still with me? 03:42 This is history, friends. 03:44 I mean, anybody can look this up. 03:47 And all of a sudden, there was tremendous compromise, and what 03:51 you had is there are still many sincere Christians that were in 03:53 Rome, and they were fighting against the compromise, but all 03:57 of a sudden you had the co-mingling of Christianity 04:00 and paganism. 04:02 They started saying "Hell burns forever" because they got that 04:04 from Greek mythology with Pluto, and they started saying you have 04:09 to--you can pay for your sins, salvation by works; everything 04:13 began to change. 04:16 True Christians began to get persecuted. 04:20 By the time of Justinian--about 538 AD--Justinian, the Roman 04:25 Emperor, he said, "I'm moving the capital of Constantinople. 04:29 I'm going to give--the bishop of Rome is now going to be the head 04:32 of the church. 04:33 We're going to call him the supreme papa, the father, 04:35 the Pope. 04:37 That happened years after Jesus. 04:41 Jesus never said Peter was the leader of the church. 04:45 Jesus is the leader of the church. 04:48 In fact, right after Jesus says, "Peter--yeah, you--because of 04:53 your declaration that I'm the Messiah, on that rock of your 04:57 declaration I'm going to build my church. 04:58 The gates of hell will not prevail against it, and I'm 05:00 going to go to Jerusalem where I'm going to die," and Peter 05:03 said, "No, no, Lord, don't do that." 05:05 Jesus turned to Peter and said, "Get behind me, Satan." 05:08 In the same passage where people say he's the first pope, Jesus 05:12 calls him Satan. 05:14 Totally misunderstood. 05:17 So Christians had to flee into the wilderness. 05:20 Notice: "The woman"--now, we're still in Revelation 12, you 05:24 tracking with me? 05:26 "The woman fled into the wilderness, where she had a 05:29 place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one 05:32 thousand two hundred and sixty days." 05:36 A time of great persecution happened because the church in 05:39 Rome became a government institution that not only ruled 05:42 over Rome, they began to rule over all of the empires under 05:45 the Roman Empire. 05:47 And with the conversion of Clovis, the king of the Franks, 05:50 you had the Holy Roman Empire. 05:53 And, how many of you have played chess? 05:57 You got the king and the queen, and who's on the right of the 05:59 king and the queen? 06:01 Bishop, bishop. 06:02 You look at the churches all through Europe during that time 06:05 of history, and you had the king and the queen, and then you had 06:07 the Church, and they had to clear everything with the 06:10 Church, and if the king and the queen did not clear it with the 06:12 church, then the whole nation could be excommunicated. 06:16 And the reason that you got the Church of England is because 06:19 Henry kept killing his wives because they couldn't have 06:21 children, and the church said, "Look, enough is enough. 06:24 You've killed five or six wives, you know. 06:26 We can't approve your divorce." 06:28 He said, "Well then, I'm just going to start my own church," 06:32 and the Church of England broke away because they're--and the 06:36 whole nation was excommunicated at that time. 06:40 And so, the Church had tremendous power over Europe 06:43 during this time. 06:45 True Christians that read the Bible for themselves had to flee 06:48 into the mountains. 06:49 They went into the Italian and the Swiss Alps, and they kept 06:53 the purity of the faith, and they would copy out the 06:55 scriptures by hand, and they'd send their merchants and their 06:58 children into town to give little sections of Scripture to 07:02 people to spread the faith and keep it alive, but the 07:04 Church--"clothed in the sackcloth" is what 07:07 Revelation says. 07:09 You know what sackcloth is? 07:11 When I was a kid, we had potato bags. 07:12 You don't have them anymore, they're plastic now. 07:15 How many remember burlap bags? 07:18 Kind of cloth, but it's cheap cloth, and light can still get 07:21 through it, but it's obscured. 07:24 And the church, the light of the church was obscured during that 07:27 time, had to go underground. 07:30 You know how long it lasted? 07:32 From 538 when the Pope became the supreme ruler, it was given 07:36 an army, and Christianity was enforced by an army--Jesus never 07:41 told us to force people to be Christians--until Napoleon came 07:45 along in 1798. 07:47 The Pope was arrested, they lost their universal power, and he 07:51 died in captivity. 07:53 From 538 to 1798, you've got 1260 years. 08:00 It says "for 1260 days," 42 months, a time, a time, and the 08:05 dividing of time; that time period is in prophecy 08:08 many times. 08:09 By the way, what is God's number in the Bible, God's number? 08:13 Seven, what is half of seven? 08:15 Three and a half. 08:16 It usually represents a time of persecution. 08:20 How long did Jesus preach? 08:21 Three and a half years, and then He died. 08:25 And then the apostles preached for 3.5 years, and then Stephen 08:30 was killed exactly 3.5 years later. 08:34 And you look at the story in the Old Testament of Elijah. 08:37 For 3.5 years, Elijah preached, and the prophets had to 08:40 go underground. 08:41 They were hidden in caves until he had his Mount Carmel 08:45 experience, and even then he had great persecution. 08:48 Elijah had to run from his life from Jezebel, a woman. 08:53 I'm talking about a woman representing the church. 08:55 She was a pagan woman that married a Jewish king. 08:59 The combination of paganism and the truth was persecuting the 09:04 prophets of God. 09:05 What happened in the Old Testament was repeated in 09:08 history, and it's going to happen again in the last days. 09:11 You--is it making sense? 09:13 All right, so she flees into the wilderness. 09:15 Number 6: what are two other identifying marks of God's 09:20 true church? 09:21 You get down to the end of chapter 12, it says, "And the 09:23 dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war 09:28 with the rest," that means the remnant, "of her offspring," who 09:31 do what? 09:32 "Keeps the Commandments of God, and has the testimony of Jesus." 09:39 If you read in Isaiah, chapter 8, says, "Bind up the testimony, 09:44 seal the law among My disciples," the law and 09:49 the testimony. 09:50 Read in Revelation 19, verse 10. 09:53 John is talking to an angel, he falls down to worship the angel. 09:56 The angel says, "Don't worship me, don't worship anyone 09:58 but God--we're not to pray to angels, we're not to pray to 10:00 statues," say amen? 10:03 Said, "Pray to God." 10:04 You don't even pray to angels. 10:06 And the angel said, "Fear God, I am of your fellow servants who 10:10 keep the testimony of God, for the testimony of God is the 10:15 spirit of prophecy." 10:17 The law and the testimony, the law and the prophets, 10:20 two characteristics. 10:22 Read in Isaiah chapter 8, verse 20; according to the law and the 10:26 testimony, the Word of God, "If they speak not according to this 10:30 Word, there's no light in them." 10:31 The Word of God is dual in nature: Ten Commandments, two 10:35 tables of stone. 10:36 You've got the Bible, the New and the Old Testament. 10:39 These are the two witnesses in Revelation 11--we'll get to that 10:42 another time--symbolized by Moses and Elijah, the law and 10:45 the prophets, and God's people will have the Word of God. 10:51 Now, you might say, "Well, yeah, every church keeps the 10:53 Commandments, some of them." 10:55 Oh, no, no friends, God's looking for people that will 10:57 believe in all ten. 10:59 God does not call them the ten suggestions. 11:03 They are not called the ten good ideas, they're not God's ten 11:08 recommendations, they are the Ten Commandments of God, amen? 11:13 Everybody in jail keeps some of them some of the time. 11:19 You keep them when you're sleeping for a few hours each 11:21 night, and even then you might be dubious. 11:28 God is looking for people that believe in all ten, amen? 11:32 Keeping not just the letter, but keeping the spirit of the law as 11:36 well, amen? 11:38 So the dragon especially hates that group of people. 11:42 Number 7: how did Jesus say that we're to demonstrate our love 11:45 for Him? 11:47 He said what? 11:49 "If you love Me, honk your horn." 11:54 I heard about a woman that--she was stuck in traffic and she 11:59 began to honk her horn and shake her fist; didn't know that the 12:03 policeman was behind her. 12:05 He jumped out of his car and he pulled his gun and he said, "Get 12:09 out of your car, hands up, up against the car." 12:12 He searched her, checked her ID. 12:15 She said, "What's all that about?" 12:18 He said, "Well, I saw the way that you were gesturing to the 12:20 driver in front of you, and I heard you honking your horn, and 12:23 I saw your bumper sticker. 12:24 It said, 'Honk if you love Jesus.' 12:26 I just figured you stole the car." 12:32 We need to be living it too, amen? 12:37 Bible says, "This is the love of God, that we keep 12:41 His Commandments." 12:43 Isn't it all about love, friends, amen? 12:46 Number 8: what three angelic messages will God's end-time 12:50 church be preaching to the world? 12:52 Answer--and you read about this in Revelation 14, go to your 12:55 Bible real quick. 12:59 In Revelation 14, you're going to notice that something unique 13:03 happens here. 13:04 It tells us that Jesus comes in Revelation 14, verse 14. 13:11 You can see here where it says, "Then I looked, behold a white 13:15 cloud, and on the cloud one sat like the son of man." 13:17 Remember, He had been caught up chapter 12, now He's 13:20 coming back. 13:22 "On His head, a golden crown; in His hand, a sharp sickle." 13:25 He's coming to harvest the earth. 13:27 It's the great Judgment Day. 13:28 What message goes to the world before Jesus comes? 13:32 Look in chapter 14; starts with verse 6, gives three 13:35 angel messages. 13:37 "I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the 13:41 everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth--to 13:45 every nation." 13:46 It's going to be international: "every nation, every tongue, 13:49 tribe, people. 13:50 With a loud voice"--it's going to go by radio and television, 13:55 by internet. 13:57 "'Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His 14:00 judgment has come.'" 14:02 We have a lesson on that coming tomorrow night. 14:04 "'Worship Him that made,'" calling us back to the Creator 14:08 and the Sabbath truth, "'the springs and the earth and the 14:12 sea and the waters.' 14:13 And another angel followed, saying, 'Babylon has fallen, has 14:16 fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink the 14:20 wine of the wrath of her fornication.' 14:22 And a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, 'If 14:27 anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark 14:31 on his forehead or his hand, the same will drink the wine of the 14:34 wrath of God that has poured out full strength into the cup of 14:37 His indignation.'" 14:38 You don't want to get the mark of the beast. 14:41 We've got a lesson coming on that, friends. 14:43 You don't want to make that mistake. 14:45 So, let's look at those three angels' messages quickly. 14:49 Number 1: "Fear God," and you'll see them on the screen, say the 14:51 answer with me. 14:53 "Fear God, give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment 14:56 has come." 14:58 Do you realize that's the end of time? 14:59 Do you know that part of God's judgment happens before He even 15:02 gets here? 15:03 How do you know that? 15:05 Says, "Behold, I come; My reward is with Me to give to 15:08 every man." 15:09 Does God know who's going up and who's not when He comes? 15:12 Some judgment happens. 15:13 "Judgment must begin at the house of God. 15:15 If judgment begins at us, what will be the end of them that 15:18 obey not the gospel?" 15:19 I'm quoting the Bible. 15:22 Judgment has come. 15:23 Second angel's message: "And worship Him who made the heaven 15:27 and the earth, and the sea," and that means worship Him the right 15:29 way, the right day; true worship of God. 15:32 Is there a lot of counterfeit worship today? 15:35 There's some people, bless their hearts, they go to church and 15:37 these pastors deceive them. 15:40 They say, "Send me your money and God's going to get you a new 15:42 pickup truck," right? 15:45 Just say--they take advantage of people, the counterfeit worship. 15:51 Answer the next one, and it says: "Another angel followed, 15:55 saying, 'Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because 16:00 she has made all nations drink the wine of the wrath of 16:03 her fornication.'" 16:04 There'll be a judgment on the people that are in Babylon, but 16:08 God wants to save Babylon. 16:10 He's got His people in Babylon. 16:13 Now, why does it talk about that? 16:15 During the time of Jeremiah, King Nebuchadnezzar, king of 16:20 Babylon, conquered Jerusalem, brought the Jews to Babylon, and 16:25 they were there for 70 years. 16:26 How comfortable would you be for 70 years? 16:30 We're only here for three weeks in New York City, and Karen and 16:32 I have gotten real comfortable in our hotel room. 16:36 We just may stay. 16:38 But after 70 years, when God said, "You're free now to go 16:42 back," they said, "Well, we kind of like it in Babylon. 16:45 We've learned the language, we've learned the customs, we're 16:47 a little Babylon-ish ourselves," and He couldn't get His people 16:50 out of Babylon. 16:52 He said, "But judgment's coming on Babylon. 16:54 The Persians are going to destroy them. 16:55 You don't want to be there, go home." 16:59 And God is telling His people in Babylon, "Today they're mixed up 17:02 in false religions, false churches. 17:06 Babylon is going to fall, the plagues will fall on Babylon, 17:09 the seven last plagues. 17:10 Come out of her, My people." 17:14 Jesus has His people in Babylon, He's calling them out. 17:18 "And a third angel followed them, saying, 'If anyone 17:21 worships the beast in his image, and receives his mark on his 17:24 forehead or on his hand, he will drink the wine of the wrath of 17:28 God,'" and that's that same wine--Babylon has made people 17:32 drunk with her wine. 17:34 Number 9: to whom will God's church preach these messages in 17:39 the last days? 17:40 Where does it go, the everlasting gospel? 17:44 "Having the everlasting gospel to preach to," who? 17:47 "Every nation." 17:49 Jesus said the gospel will be preached in all the world, then 17:52 the end will come. 17:54 Friends, you're living in the generation that will see that 17:55 fulfillment, I believe. 17:58 Are you ready for Jesus to come? 18:01 What specifications has God given in His Word to help us 18:04 identify His end-time church? 18:07 Well, let's look at what some of the criteria are. 18:11 Answer A, let's reevaluate what we just read in our study. 18:16 "It's going to appear and do its visible work after it emerges 18:20 from the wilderness in 1798." 18:22 Now, I just got to stop here and just say something to you. 18:25 I believe that God's got a remnant. 18:28 You know what a remnant is? 18:29 It's the remainder. 18:32 How many of you ladies have ever done any sewing? 18:34 You go to the store and you buy a remnant. 18:37 When I take my wallet out, everyone gets real quiet for 18:41 some reason. 18:42 Okay, I've got--what do I got here? 18:44 I got a $10 bill, all right. 18:47 When they make cloth at the factory on the loom, they get 18:51 the bolt--you know, the cardboard tube--and they begin 18:55 to roll the cloth onto the cardboard tube, right? 19:00 What goes on first? 19:02 And they roll it all up, and then they--people come to the 19:05 store and they say, "I'd like to buy some," and they buy little 19:08 pieces and they cut it off, and they buy what they need for 19:10 their pillows and their curtains, they cut off the 19:12 cloth, and finally someone will say, "Well, I only need so much, 19:15 and I got this little piece left over," and what's it called? 19:18 It's a remnant. 19:19 It's what's at the end, but you know what's at the end? 19:21 It's what went on first. 19:25 What comes off at the end is what went on first. 19:29 God's church in the last days is going to be following the 19:31 scriptures the way the church did in the beginning. 19:35 The Bible says, "We are going to return to the faith that was 19:39 once delivered to the saints." 19:42 The Bible tells us that "there'll be a remnant." 19:45 God saved a remnant in the days of Noah, right? 19:49 He saved a remnant called Abraham from Babel. 19:53 Ur of the Chaldees, He saved a remnant out of Babylon. 19:59 And after the persecution of 1260 years and the church went 20:04 underground, there was a great revival movement that took place 20:07 about 150 years ago where Christians from all different 20:11 backgrounds said, "Let's find out what the Bible really says. 20:14 Jesus does not want us divided by our denominations. 20:19 Let's pray for the Spirit and open the Word, and kneel and 20:22 spend nights in prayer and get back to the Bible." 20:25 That was the birth of the movement that's bringing you 20:27 this seminar. 20:30 Now, you say, "Well, what church is that?" 20:32 I don't like to call it a denomination, but we're called 20:34 Seventh Day Adventists. 20:36 I don't often say it because I don't like to brag about it, but 20:38 I'm a Seventh Day Adventist Christian. 20:40 It's very simple, it means we believe in keeping all the 20:44 Commandments, including the 7th, and we believe Christ is 20:46 coming back. 20:48 It's the blessed hope, and we're telling people, "Get ready, get 20:49 ready, get ready." 20:51 And we are--do you know, North America, the Seventh Day 20:54 Adventist Church is voted as the most diverse church ethnically 20:59 in that we have people from all different backgrounds, and it is 21:03 the fastest growing Protestant church in the world today, and 21:07 they have the biggest educational system, second to 21:10 the Catholic Church. 21:12 They have the biggest medical system, second to the Catholic 21:15 Church, and they're spreading everywhere because people are 21:18 saying, "Hey, if you're going to be a Bible Christian, where else 21:21 are you going to go?" 21:23 What does your church believe? 21:25 "Well, my church believes like my pastor." 21:28 What does your pastor believe? 21:29 "Like my church." 21:32 What does your pastor and your church believe? 21:34 "Same thing I believe." 21:37 People don't know what they believe, do they? 21:40 We got to go by the Bible, friends, amen? 21:43 This church began during that time period. 21:47 It's following the '798 year time period. 21:52 It says, answer B, "It'll teach the same truths the apostles 21:57 taught," we mentioned that. 21:58 Answer C: "It will keep the Ten Commandments, including the 22:02 Sabbath," amen? 22:04 Answer D: "It will have the spirit of prophecy." 22:06 It goes by the law and the prophets, and believes in all 22:08 the gifts of the Spirit, friends, amen? 22:10 I believe the power of God is still alive today. 22:14 "It'll proclaim God's three-time end-time message with a 22:17 loud voice." 22:18 It'll be a global international church. 22:20 It's not a local corner fellowship, it is an 22:22 international movement. 22:24 We meet that criteria. 22:26 "It'll teach the everlasting gospel, which is salvation 22:30 through Christ alone," which is what we teach and believe. 22:34 Now Jesus, number 11: He gives us these seven prophetic 22:37 identifying points. 22:39 He said, "Go find My church." 22:41 What is the promise of Jesus if we seek?
