00:00 Welcome to Adventures and Missions.
00:01 Today's a very special episode
00:03 because we'll be joining the Melashenko family singers
00:06 who were involved
00:07 in the 30th anniversary celebration of Gospel Outreach.
00:11 The Melashenko Family Singers has been an integral part
00:14 of Gospel Outreach, as together we're sharing Jesus in the 10/40
00:18 window.
00:19 That rectangle from West Africa all the way through the Middle
00:21 East and Asia. You'll want to stay tuned.
00:24 Gospel Outreach Presents Adventures
00:27 in Missions.
00:58 My name is James
01:00 Ash and I'm a local pastor here in the Walla Walla Valley,
01:05 A pastor of a unique church called State Line Church.
01:09 I came to this valley.
01:11 I wouldn't say kicking and screaming,
01:13 but this was not my first place that I really wanted to come.
01:16 I just want to thank you for your involvement.
01:19 I had a clear idea of where I wanted to go in my own life.
01:22 I tried to be an airline pilot. I really.
01:25 Not necessarily airline pilot, but I wanted to be,
01:28 you know, go into corporate flying and stuff like that.
01:31 I had all these grandiose ideas
01:33 and God just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
01:35 Shut all the doors. Said, Nope, that's not for you.
01:38 I've got bigger plans for you.
01:44 He's always had a plan for me.
01:45 He's always made it clear three different times.
01:48 Made it clear that he wanted me in ministry.
02:03 Jesus says to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful,
02:06 but the laborers are few.
02:08 Therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest
02:09 to send out labors into his harvest.
02:11 So he's looking around at the audience.
02:13 He's saying the harvest is plentiful.
02:16 It's not a harvest problem.
02:17 There's never been a harvest problem.
02:20 The problem has been a laborer.
02:29 Our prayer team
02:30 has been meeting for just about two years.
02:34 We're coming up
02:35 on our two year anniversary and we all just started meeting.
02:39 We met on a Sunday and then I said, Well,
02:42 why don't we meet again tomorrow?
02:44 And then pretty soon we just started meeting every day
02:47 for an hour from 6:00 to 7:00 in the morning
02:50 when you preaching.
02:52 You know, I've discovered this.
02:54 There's a miracle in the speaking
02:56 and there's a miracle in the hearing.
03:09 I've been involved with ministry,
03:11 but because of my involvement with Gospel Outreach,
03:15 it's really helped to spur our understanding of missions.
03:21 And the thing I like about Gospel Outreach is,
03:24 is that it really helps local churches be able to see
03:30 firsthand frontline missions
03:33 and to become excited about that.
03:37 I mean, this last Sabbath, we had the Melashenko
03:39 family here at our church.
03:42 The Melashenko family has come and they are going to be sharing
03:46 in our service today.
03:47 I am redeemed
03:52 by love divine
03:56 And it was
03:57 then that my 13 year old daughter
04:01 decides that she's going to
04:04 to support a Bible worker with her own money.
04:07 This is not mom and dad's money. This is her own money.
04:09 We're going to be here a long time
04:11 unless we get serious about sharing the gospel
04:13 in that part of the world.
04:15 And that is the exact reason that Gospel Outreach
04:18 was established 30 years ago.
04:24 My involvement with
04:25 Gospel Outreach has been fairly
04:28 You know, I think most people,
04:31 myself included,
04:33 most people don't really know what Gospel Outreach.
04:36 They may have heard the name,
04:39 but they just don't really have a clear grasp of
04:42 of what Gospel Outreach does and what they're about.
04:47 It's a personal thing for me,
04:49 because I was born in Taiwan.
04:53 I was raised in Hong Kong, and Communist China.
04:58 So I understand a little bit about foreign missions.
05:01 That's that's all part of the 10/40 window.
05:03 So that's when you talk about the 10/40 window.
05:06 That's my backyard.
05:07 That's where that was, where I grew up.
05:10 And so really, foreign missions
05:12 just burns like a fire deep in my soul.
05:16 And whatever I can do to encourage other people,
05:19 you know, to see beyond the limits of of
05:23 whatever city that they're in, that there's a world out there.
05:27 And not everyone has heard the name of Jesus.
05:33 And I believe that every person has a calling.
05:37 Not every person's calling is the same calling,
05:41 But God has a special purpose and a special
05:43 calling for every person.
05:47 If you really want to be truly happy on the inside,
05:51 it's living a life for other people in the center
05:56 of God's will.
06:01 Lonnie Melashenko, welcome to Adventures in Missions.
06:04 Thank you.
06:05 It is good to be back here.
06:06 Lonnie, you and your family, your brothers,
06:09 you're going to be leading out with the Melashenko family
06:12 Singers for the 30th anniversary
06:14 of Gospel Outreach and a rally event.
06:17 Tell us a little bit about your family history
06:20 with music as we prepare for this event.
06:23 Well, of course, the Melashenko
06:25 singers have been around more than the Heritage Singers.
06:28 We started when we were just
06:30 five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten and Saskatchewan, Canada
06:33 have been singing off
06:34 and on for general conferences and youth conferences and stuff.
06:37 And of course, the voice of prop family reunion
06:39 for 60 years plus.
06:41 And we're very excited this weekend
06:44 because we have another
06:45 new person who has never been there before.
06:47 He's over.
06:48 He's 15 years of age one, so he'll help make
06:50 the different generations and bring down the average mean age.
06:54 Oh, it's all good.
06:56 Yeah, but that's the neat thing about seeing,
06:59 like, your family, all the generations,
07:01 the music history that you have and all of that.
07:04 So what does it mean for you to be part of Gospel Outreach?
07:09 I get choked up.
07:12 I've been in pastoral ministry.
07:15 I was with George Vandeman It is Written telecast for five
07:18 Then H.M.S.
07:20 Richards Junior invited me to become the host of the Voice
07:23 of Prophecy and speaker director for almost 20 years
07:27 and then I went to Kettering Health Network
07:29 for I've been back in Dayton, Ohio for almost ten years,
07:32 Vice president for Spiritual Services Admissions.
07:34 And all of these have been absolutely amazing privileges
07:38 that talk about the other day.
07:39 I think of the places that God has taken us to Cuba and places
07:44 like Russia and Ukraine and New Zealand and Philippines,
07:48 you name it, Brazil, South America.
07:51 But, you know, it's kind of the frosting on the cake
07:54 When it came along, the opportunity to join
07:57 Gospel Outreach and I was a co-host with you
07:59 for a number of occasions there on the Adventures in Missions.
08:03 It's kind of like the cherry on top of the frosting.
08:08 It's changed.
08:11 It's changed our whole focus.
08:14 Bless your heart.
08:15 Jesus said, Yeah, in the very, very end.
08:18 In Matthew. Mark, it's right here.
08:20 The Gospel must go into all the world.
08:24 Now it's.
08:25 It's.
08:26 It's not enough for a person to come to church.
08:28 Not enough for them to keep the Sabbath
08:30 and to listen to good sermons, even on Gospel Outreach.
08:34 But Jesus and the Holy Spirit want us to do something.
08:38 Yeah, we must do something.
08:40 Well, how can I go into all the world?
08:44 I've been to a lot of places, but how can I go into that 10/40
08:47 window, which is the mysterious area
08:49 where people don't even know the name of Jesus?
08:51 Yes, well, I can participate by supporting.
08:55 Yes. Praying for.
08:56 Yes. Financially.
08:59 We want the gospel to go out there.
09:03 And, you know, we are so excited about what's taking place.
09:07 I mean, what
09:08 2,500 plus missionaries out there on the ground? Yes.
09:12 Sowing the seed in each of them, baptizing 125
09:15 per year in areas where they're they're.
09:19 They could be put to death.
09:20 Some of them have been for sharing their faith.
09:25 Jesus says it's not enough for you
09:27 to just listen to Gospel original on the you need to go.
09:30 You need to do.
09:32 And I tell my audiences now when I preach, it's not enough
09:35 to come here. A good sermon.
09:36 You must do something. Yes.
09:39 Yes, something. Yes.
09:40 This helps me do and go well, bless your hearts.
09:45 Well, we're
09:46 just so privileged to partner together with your family
09:50 and to have your family history and your love for the Lord
09:53 and your experience.
09:54 So thank you for taking this gospel commission seriously.
09:59 And for your witness.
10:00 And we thank you for that.
10:02 We can't wait
10:03 for what's going to happen in just a little bit. Yes.
10:05 Pulling together again and we're not getting any younger,
10:08 but it's nice to have a 15 year old and there's going to be
10:12 someone who's going to follow all of this, seven years and 18.
10:16 And I had he sat at a table.
10:18 Our table last week was blown away
10:20 when he found out who you were and that you knew about this.
10:22 It was all wonderful. So we look forward to it.
10:25 So I think we're off to your rehearsal as we get ready.
10:29 They're waiting for me to pick them up for the rally.
10:31 So thank you. See you in a little bit.
10:42 Hi. It's exciting here at Gospel
10:44 Outreach is turning 30 and we have an exciting weekend
10:47 here at the Melashenko Family
10:48 Singers are rehearsing and Lonnie has invited us.
10:52 And we're going to go on in and hear some great music.
10:59 Well, hello, Brent, president of Gospel Outreach.
11:02 Thanks for being here.
11:03 Thank you for being here, Julie. It's a pleasure.
11:05 We're going to go in and hear the Melashenko family singers.
11:07 All right.
11:08 Here we go.
11:09 Oh, my toes are tapping already.
11:12 His love is an endless
11:16 love
11:28 Push it out
11:31 Amen
11:32 Hello, everybody. Hello. Hello.
11:35 Lonnie welcomed me to come and to hear all of you
11:38 meet all of you and be here as you are ready to rehearse.
11:42 So we've been in the studio and look at you all.
11:45 Some folks are still on the way.
11:47 Well, this is good.
11:48 Well, Lonnie, do you want to run down
11:50 the family here and introduce me?
11:52 I will do.
11:53 The ones that are here so far, My wife, Jeanie.
11:55 We're married 56 years this year.
11:57 And the next brother right after me is Jody.
11:59 He directs the whole group and his wife, Judy.
12:02 And we're so tickled that their daughter,
12:04 who brings the age
12:05 limit down from Oroville, California, Joanne is here
12:09 and she's singing.
12:10 And the next brother is Dallas.
12:13 Dallas is also from Orville, but Orville Washington,
12:16 where he and his wife are teaching school
12:18 and we're so tickled that he drove
12:19 all the way over here to be a part of this.
12:21 Eugene is not here.
12:22 He's back east, but his son is represented
12:26 here in the person of Matthew, who's on his way.
12:29 And he lives up in where Tri-Cities
12:33 and his son is going to be singing here.
12:36 He's going to be the 15 year old
12:38 Then Rudy is the youngest brothe at the far end.
12:41 Rudy. Rudy is from Orville,
12:44 California,
12:45 and his son tell us about his son.
12:48 My son Jay is in Southern California
12:52 and his son, Jayden,
12:55 We have four generations represented up here.
12:58 Jayden is now the fourth generation of Melashenko's
13:01 praising the Lord.
13:03 You know, we've always been short on ladies in this family.
13:05 We would be happy to adopt you to come in sometime.
13:08 You start learning the music and you can join with us.
13:10 Well I can certainly toe tap. So this is good.
13:13 So, Joanne, what's it like for you
13:15 to be here with the family and?
13:17 Oh, man,
13:19 it's always a great time
13:20 to worship with the family and to be able to.
13:21 I mean, it's just such an honor and a privilege. Honestly.
13:24 I've been singing with them since I was, what, three?
13:26 Well, how neat is this to have your daughter here?
13:28 I love it. I love it.
13:30 Yes. And Jody, thank you so much for all that you do.
13:33 You know, we retired a few years ago
13:36 and when Ken Crawford approached us and said, hey,
13:39 Gospel Outreach really needs fam
13:41 that can out there represent Gospel
13:43 Outreaches churches and camp meetings.
13:45 And it really has given us a whole new lilt in our step.
13:49 I honestly can tell you that
13:50 I thought at this stage of my life,
13:52 my singing career would be over.
13:53 But God keeps giving us the voices to sing and
13:56 and we keep doing it.
13:57 And what is it like to have grandson here?
14:00 It is just a joy to have Jaiden singing along with Grandpa
14:05 and Jayden has developed some great musical talents
14:09 himself personally, and just to have him here
14:12 with me just chokes me up a little bit.
14:16 And I love you pop.
14:17 It's a new meaning to poetry in
14:19 When you watch this guy singing
14:22 Jaiden Loves the
14:23 Lord and he will show it in his singing up here tonight.
14:27 He is.
14:28 He is filled with the Holy Spirit,
14:29 and he's ready to share his love for God
14:31 to everybody out here tonight through his music.
14:34 I'm very privileged
14:35 to be able to have this experience again.
14:38 It's such a joy to like, this.
14:41 Coming to college
14:42 and leaving my family was a little rough,
14:44 so this is a little taste of home.
14:46 And it just it's it's really wonderful also to just like,
14:50 have this opportunity
14:51 to come together and sing for like a purpose.
14:54 It's great
14:55 having you here and have the enthusiasm of all of you
14:58 and to see that in you Jaiden.
14:59 So thank you for being here.
15:01 And Jeanie
15:02 To have you hear all these years
15:04 and you and Lonnie in your ministry.
15:06 We just want to say thank you to you both.
15:08 Thank you.
15:09 You know, we we have enjoyed working with Gospel Outreach
15:13 so much in our concerts, but also financially
15:18 supporting those out there in the 10/40 window.
15:22 It has been such a joy and pleasure for Lonnie and me.
15:26 Well, thank you to both of you, Jody and the whole family.
15:30 The whole family.
15:30 And got to get Brother Dallas in here.
15:33 And what's this like
15:35 for you to think about your mom and your dad and the legacy
15:39 that they have of not only loving the Lord but music?
15:42 Yeah, the music was such a big part of their legacy.
15:45 And I love coming with my brother to sing with my brothers
15:50 And that
15:51 is a legacy that will continue until I die.
15:55 Well, please continue on with your rehearsal
15:57 and we will get some footage here
15:59 because I know people who can't come
16:01 will enjoy seeing all of you.
16:02 So great blessings to you and thank you again.
16:12 What?
16:19 As I walk the road of life
16:23 toward heaven,
16:29 hills and valleys.
16:31 Seems so hard to climb
16:37 And if victory seems a little slow
16:42 in coming.
16:47 Remember the
16:49 hands that held the nails are holding mine.
16:55 So I'll keep holding on to Jesus
17:01 I'll keep holding on to Jesus.
17:06 I'll keep holding to those precious
17:10 nail scared hands.
17:15 I can't see the way too clearly
17:21 my steps become so weary.
17:25 I'll keep holding to those precious
17:30 nail scared hands.
17:46 Though sometimes the
17:48 pathway seams so narrow
17:56 Fear and doubt tend to cloud my mind
18:05 But then I feel the
18:08 gentle touch
18:10 of Jesus.
18:15 He says just keep holding
18:19 to my hand.
18:23 To my hand.
18:27 I'll keep
18:32 holding on to Jesus,
18:36 I'll keep holding on to Jesus,
18:40 I'll keep holding to those precious nail scared hands
18:45 nail scared hands.
18:50 Oh, I can't see the way too clearly.
18:56 My steps become so weary
19:00 I'll keep holding
19:02 to those precious nail scared hands.
19:10 I'll keep holding.
19:14 I'll keep holding.
19:19 I'll keep holding to those precious nail scared hands.
19:29 Keep holding.
19:38 Amen, amen!
19:41 So beautiful all of your songs are so beautiful.
19:43 But that was especially sweet.
19:46 And thank you for including me on that.
19:48 So Dallas, you said you had a hard time
19:50 singing that song and you do have a hard time.
19:53 And you know, when we talk about Jesus, it is emotional.
19:57 Why is that hard for you?
19:59 Because it is so personal to me.
20:02 The trials
20:03 that I've gone through in my life,
20:04 some of the things that have happened,
20:06 it's very touching for me to sing this song
20:08 and a lot of times I can't get through it.
20:10 It's that simple.
20:12 And Jesus, what does he mean to you? Everything.
20:17 If we don't?
20:18 If I don't have him, I have nothing.
20:19 Simple as that.
20:20 Thank you for all of you for sharing.
20:22 Because I know that this runs deep with all of you.
20:25 So thank you.
20:26 Okay, we're.
20:28 We're getting ready to go to the supper that the Gospel
20:30 Outreach group is coordinated.
20:32 We have a tradition in our family.
20:35 When we get together,
20:36 we have a musical prayer that we do,
20:38 and we're going to do it Now.
20:40 I, I don't know what part I don't know what part you guys
20:43 are going to sing, but we'll just see what we see
20:44 can do with it.
20:45 God is great and God is good
20:51 Let us thank Him for our food.
20:57 By His hand we all are blessed.
21:03 Give us Lord our daily bread
21:10 Give us
21:11 Lord our daily bread.
21:20 Amen.
21:31 Amen!
21:32 Lonnie,
21:33 thank you so much for sharing
21:34 your family once again with all of us.
21:38 It's emotional
21:40 We never get to see each other.
21:43 Well, we do.
21:44 Some of us are fairly close to each other,
21:45 but this is very sacred for us because it
21:48 brings back memories of the way we grew up
21:51 and we look forward to every time we have a chance,
21:53 because most of the time we sing.
21:54 Now it's for Gospel Outreach
21:56 and we have another big one coming up next spring in March.
22:00 What was the date there?
22:01 22 and 22, 22 and 23 for the Greater Chattanooga area.
22:05 It'll be in a couple of different churches.
22:06 And if you have any friends or people
22:08 that live on that side of the country,
22:10 please tell them.
22:11 And these will always be live streamed too.
22:13 So wherever you are on the planet,
22:15 there are people in the middle of the Pacific
22:17 Ocean who have watched our programs,
22:19 like at Loma Linda,
22:20 and they have sent sizable
22:21 contributions and people can do that
22:23 and still be a part of it and help to lift
22:25 what Gospel Outreach is all abou
22:27 And we want to say thank you
22:28 to all of those people who have made it
22:30 through prayers, support and all of that.
22:32 So we just talked with Jaden and then your other
22:36 relative, Matthew.
22:37 And this is the next the fourth generation here.
22:40 You know, my dad,
22:43 he was the one
22:44 who, after singing with Kings, Heralds wanted his kids to sing.
22:47 And so we put together this Melashenko Family
22:48 Singers who've been together for over 60 years.
22:51 But we're getting a little older, too.
22:53 Some of us are going to be pushing 80 in a couple of years.
22:56 We'll sing as long as we can, but Matthew
22:58 is already teaching his kids and Jaden here.
23:02 The next generation evidently plans to carry on this ministry.
23:06 Well, praise the Lord, and thank you so much.
23:08 And we want to say
23:09 thank you so much for partnering with Gospel Outreach,
23:12 being a part of Adventures in Missions,
23:13 and may the Lord bless you today.
23:17 Destination 10/40 is a show that my wife and I have
23:20 had the privilege of producing alongside Gospel Outreach.
23:22 Now, the goal of this new Gospel Outreach show
23:26 is to take you into the mission field with us and show you what
23:29 it's like firsthand to be a Gospel Outreach Bible worker
23:33 working within the 10/40 window.
23:35 Today, I want to show you a promotional trailer
23:37 that we have put together for season one of this show.
23:41 But before I do,
23:42 I just want to mention to you that I am nobody special
23:45 but the Lord has been able to use my talents for His honor
23:49 and his glory.
23:49 And I am so thankful for that.
23:52 And I want to encourage you
23:53 as a Christian,
23:54 it should be our ultimate goal to find that talent
23:57 and to use those talents for the Lord.
23:59 And so
24:00 if you don't know what that talent is,
24:02 if you're still a little confused
24:03 about what your mission field is,
24:06 I want to encourage you to get out there and to find that.
24:09 So that's what I have to say today.
24:10 I want to show you this trailer
24:12 and I'm going to leave you with this.
24:13 So until next time, God bless and here's the trailer.
25:02 When I
25:03 see the great need, both spiritually and physically,
25:05 I can oftentimes become very discouraged.
25:09 People living in the dirt who can hardly afford to eat,
25:12 still spend money that they don't have on idols
25:15 for their homes and offerings for their temples.
25:19 I believe that oftentimes foreign missions is
25:22 romanticized.
25:23 The idea of traveling for five months,
25:25 visiting multiple countries. It's exciting.
25:27 But the reality is, as we are fighting
25:29 against spiritual forces.
25:35 The challenges that Christians face
25:36 within the 10/40 window are tremendous.
25:47 I'm just going to be brutally honest with you.
25:49 The devil is working
25:51 really, really hard right now in my life, in Lexi's life.
25:55 And so we definitely need prayers.
26:09 We are on our way to Nepal.
26:11 We are here in the countryside of Rukum.
26:14 We're going to see the church.
26:15 We're going to visit another one of our Bible workers.
26:18 Today we are headed to go harvest some rice.
26:22 So that's the boat that we're taking to the island.
26:24 We are here visiting a church members house.
26:26 So we are here at the school.
26:27 We are out here fishing.
26:30 I'm trying to figure out how to capture this and show
26:33 you the experience that we are experiencing because
26:36 it's phenomenal.
26:38 You know, as Christians, we
26:40 are supposed to be a different kind of people
26:42 when we go out into the communities
26:44 here in India and we mingle with Hindus
26:46 and with the Muslims,
26:48 they recognize
26:49 that our Christian brothers and sisters are different.
26:52 They can see that.
27:07 You know, sometimes I wonder if Jesus
27:10 was walking among us today,
27:11 what would he say to those who stayed the course,
27:14 to those who have been his hands and feet?
27:17 When we go out into the communities
27:19 and they recognize that our community here
27:24 and the people who come to church here, they are different
27:28 and they can see that.
27:30 And that is the most effective discipleship
27:34 method of all.
27:44 And we hope you've enjoyed that special concert.
27:47 And behind the scenes with the Melashenko family
27:49 Singers as we celebrated the 30 years of Gospel Outreach.
27:54 And we want to encourage you to continue
27:57 to be part of the ministry here at Gospel Outreach.
27:59 You can visit our website, which is
28:01 goaim.org
28:03 And while you're there,
28:04 along with a donation, which we want to say
28:06 thank you to you in advance,
28:08 you can sign up for our newsletter and it's free,
28:11 and you'll receive this in your mailbox
28:13 with great information
28:15 about what God is doing in the 10/40 window
28:18 We thank you so much for all that you're doing.
28:20 As you share
28:21 Jesus wherever you live
28:23 and as you share what Jesus is doing through
28:25 Gospel Outreach and our Gospel Outreach workers.
28:27 Thank you so much for being a part of the ministry
28:30 and may the Lord bless you today.
