00:01 For most people, about half of what we eat,
00:03 keeps us alive. 00:05 It's the other half that keep's the doctor alive. 00:08 Today's program is about 00:09 that first half entitled "E for Eating." 00:13 We'll be right back. 00:36 Hi, welcome to Abundant Living. 00:38 My name is Curtis Eakins and this is my beautiful bride. 00:43 In a few months... I'm going to say my own name. 00:45 Okay, say your own name, honey. 00:46 Paula Eakins. Did they hear you? 00:49 Paula Eakins. All right. 00:51 And coming up on, at least the time of this taping, 00:54 coming up on 25 years, almost silver anniversary. 00:59 I think we're gonna make it. What do you think? 01:01 I believe so. 01:03 I believe so too. I believe so. 01:04 I'm gonna make it. I don't know about you. 01:05 Okay. 01:07 What's that saying you always say? 01:08 You say, "If I go..." No. 01:10 If you ever leave me, I'm going with you. 01:13 Okay. Okay. Yeah, so... 01:14 You know, but that's a big if, but we're not gonna go there. 01:17 No, we're not gonna go there 01:18 because today we're talking about eating. 01:20 Yeah, so now, again, this is an acronym 01:23 we've been using for this series. 01:25 The acronym is Healers. 01:27 H is for herbal medicine. 01:30 E today eating. 01:32 A is adoration, music, praise, and prayer. 01:35 L is for liquids. 01:37 E is for exercise. 01:39 R is for rest, 01:40 and S is for sunlight and the Son of God, 01:44 Healers. 01:45 So we're now in a second letter, 01:46 E for eating. 01:48 And we've been using the references, 01:51 three references mainly. 01:53 Reference number one is God's Word. 01:55 That is the standard truth. 01:57 God is the source of all wisdom and knowledge. 01:59 So God's Word is the standard truth, 02:00 we'll be using that. 02:02 Number two would be using 02:03 also an aspired author named Ellen White, 02:06 inspired and also the second most author... 02:10 translated in United States, 02:11 but first in United States, second in the world 02:14 according to the Library of Congress, 02:16 and then third, we will be using sometimes 02:18 scientific literature as well, 02:19 the three tiers of credibility, we call that. 02:21 Now the fourth tier is everything else. 02:24 What you heard and what you read, 02:26 And what you said, 02:28 and you know, whatever. 02:30 So we're not gonna use that too. 02:32 Yeah, so today is E for eating. 02:35 And so because you know, 02:36 there's a lot of things about eating, 02:38 and we can cover everything. 02:39 We're going to be talking about... 02:41 also a webinar we'll be doing as well to get more in detail. 02:44 But you know, we've heard so much in our travels, honey. 02:47 I mean, should we eat chocolate for the antioxidant? 02:50 What about the fatty fish for the omega-3 fatty acid 02:54 for heart disease? 02:55 Is the Mediterranean diet the best diet? 02:58 And so you drink milk for strong bones. 03:01 And should we eat mostly all raw 03:04 since cooking destroys the nutrients and foods? 03:07 And should I eat according to my blood type, 03:09 and the paleo diet, the keto diet, 03:12 Flo-Jo diet, that's coming next, whatever. 03:14 There's one, really, there's one program on the web 03:19 called Integrative Nutrition. 03:21 It purported to be the largest web-based course on nutrition, 03:26 and they cover over 80 diets, over 80. 03:30 Yeah. 03:32 So therefore, with this in mind, 03:34 there are so many things out there for us to diet, 03:36 so what's good, what's not. 03:38 So we really have to go to God's Word 03:39 to determine what's the best diet out there. 03:43 Well, you know, once again, when we talk about the program, 03:45 we said, make sure you have your Bibles with you 03:47 because we are going to go to the Bible 03:49 and see what the Creator, 03:50 I call Him the Master of Public Health. 03:52 MPH. Master of Public Health. 03:54 I like that, baby, the Master of Public Health. 03:56 He knows exactly what we're supposed to be eating, 03:57 and He actually wrote in the Bible 03:59 telling us exactly that. 04:01 Yes, He did. So, let's go to the word. 04:03 Okay, the word, okay, let's go to Word of God 04:05 and if you have your Bibles. 04:07 And again, every time we go through the HEALERS, 04:11 the acronym, 04:12 we're going to be opening it up with God's Word. 04:14 And let that be our foundation for our teaching for this, 04:18 today's, program as well. 04:20 Genesis 1, you know, with creation now. 04:23 And I'm gonna look at verse 11. 04:26 It says here, and God said, 04:27 "Let the earth bring forth grass, 04:30 and the herb yielding seed and the fruit tree, 04:34 fruit tree, yielding fruit after his kind, 04:38 whose seed is in itself, 04:40 upon the earth, and it was so." 04:44 So look at God's Word. 04:46 During the Creation Week, 04:48 the first food group 04:52 mentioned in the Bible is not legumes, 04:57 is not whole grains, 04:59 is not vegetables, 05:01 is not nuts and seeds. 05:03 The first food group is fruit. 05:09 Now that had to... You know, now, okay. 05:13 I mean, there's a lot of new diets 05:15 and stuff in the market 05:16 where that's automatically eliminated. 05:19 Now that's a good point, honey, because so any diet, 05:23 any diet that will simply eliminate this food group, 05:28 the first one God mentions 05:31 is the automatic red flag 05:34 because this was aforementioned. 05:36 And you look at, I think, it's Revelation 21 or 22, 05:41 first verse, it talks about 05:44 the tree that bears 12 manner of fruit, 05:48 different one every month, all right? 05:50 And so therefore, God's Word is clear for us 05:52 fruit in the beginning, fruit in heaven. 05:56 Isaiah 65 talks about 05:59 we will build houses and plant vineyards 06:02 that means grape. 06:04 So fruit is from the beginning, in the middle, also in heaven, 06:09 in the New Jerusalem. 06:10 Fruit, now not to negate the other food groups, 06:13 but this one is really topping all the other food categories. 06:17 If we had to pick one, it would be fruit 06:19 because this is the first one. 06:21 You always say from beginning to end. 06:23 People say to me all the time, you know, God, you know, 06:25 "I'm gonna eat what I want to eat. 06:26 You know, I really enjoy, 06:28 God does not know what he's talking about." 06:30 Yeah, He doesn't. 06:31 Even though in the very first chapter 06:33 of the book, Genesis, 06:36 God, after He created everything, 06:38 put everything in place, the sun, the moon, the stars, 06:40 and He separated everything out. 06:42 Got the animals together, got the food together, 06:44 and then he breathed into man the breath of life, 06:48 and he became a living soul. 06:49 Okay. 06:51 So everything was in place 06:52 when we showed up, everything we need. 06:53 Absolutely. 06:55 And so I like the idea that here we find fruit 06:57 in the very first chapter. 06:58 It is. 06:59 Talking about the fact that how important fruits are. 07:02 Yes, absolutely. They are. 07:03 So it's very important for us. That's a concern. 07:06 So we also have a statement too, 07:10 the Bible mentions, 07:11 I guess you talked about 07:13 a particular type of fruits, though. 07:14 Yeah, but that's in the New Kingdom. 07:16 It says 12-manner of fruit in Revelation. 07:19 Isaiah 65 talks about the vineyards, 07:22 so we know that's a grape, 07:23 but going back to the Garden of Eden, 07:26 now it just says fruit. 07:28 It doesn't tell us what type of fruit, 07:31 just a fruit tree in the Garden of Eden. 07:33 Okay. 07:34 Now if you go just with God's Word, 07:39 there's a hint as to 07:41 one of the fruits in the Garden of Eden. 07:44 It's quite obvious. 07:46 A lot of people overlook it. Okay. 07:48 It's quite obvious. 07:49 So I'm gonna go with, 07:51 let's go with Genesis 3:7. 07:56 Genesis 3:7. 07:59 So this is... 08:01 We can really assume that 08:02 this fruit was included in the Garden of Eden. 08:05 This is after sin. 08:07 "And the eyes of them both were open, 08:10 and they knew that they were naked, 08:13 and they sewed..." 08:14 Oh, wait a minute. 08:16 "Fig leaves together, 08:19 and make themselves aprons." 08:22 Okay, now wait a minute. 08:23 Okay. So if they sew fig leaves... 08:27 Yes. 08:28 There may have been a fig tree. 08:30 Well, there had to be if there were some fig leaves. 08:32 Right, so therefore figs, more than likely, 08:35 had to be part of the fruit that they ate. 08:41 No figs, no fig leaves. 08:44 I'm just thinking out loud here. 08:46 Yeah, yeah, yeah. 08:47 You know, I mean, sometimes, we know that 08:49 but we kind of bypass, 08:50 "Oh, wait a minute, that's right, fig leaves." 08:52 And figs are really powerful for us, 08:55 antimicrobial, even placing figs on the wound, 09:00 in Isaiah there and on the boil as a poultice. 09:04 And so figs can be very powerful. 09:06 So we know they had at least figs 09:09 and we can assume other things too. 09:11 But at least I guess there's something about 09:13 the fruit that they had in the Garden of Eden. 09:15 So fruit seem to be king of all food groups, 09:20 but not to negate the other food groups 09:22 that's missing throughout the scripture as well. 09:24 Yeah, because he goes on to speak a little bit more 09:26 about the other ones too. 09:28 In Genesis 1:29, and then Genesis 3:18. 09:31 Oh, you want to read it? 09:33 Oh. 09:34 Yeah, okay, yeah, because He made the fruit tree. 09:38 Yeah, what did He tell man to do? 09:40 And he is speaking now again. 09:42 'Cause you always say, "If it wasn't important, 09:44 God will not put it in the first book of the Bible, 09:46 the first chapter of the Bible." 09:48 Genesis 1:29 says, 09:52 And God said, "Behold, 09:53 I have given you every herb bearing seed, 09:57 which is upon the face of the earth, 09:59 and every tree 10:01 in which is the fruit of the tree yielding seed. 10:04 To you, it shall be for meat." Okay. 10:07 Alright, so now we got the seed. 10:09 Right. Okay. 10:10 We got the fruit, we got the tree yielding, 10:12 and I said the other one is really funny 10:14 'cause had to study a little botany 10:15 to get into that one. 10:16 We get a lot of stuff on that one also about people saying, 10:18 "A bell pepper is a vegetable, right?" 10:21 It said seed yielding. 10:23 So that means tomato, cucumber. Oh, so a lot of them. 10:25 Yeah, sometimes we have a good journal, 10:27 is sometimes referred as fruit vegetable. 10:29 There you go, fruit vegetable combination. 10:31 Yeah, we know it, yeah. 10:32 And then he goes a little bit further, Curtis, 10:33 and he says in Genesis 3:18. 10:35 Is it after sin now? After sin. 10:36 It goes in 3:18 and He says, 10:38 "Thorns and thistles shall you bring forth 10:42 and thou show eat the herbs of the field." 10:45 Okay, now, also the plant of the ground, all right? 10:48 Comes in the vegetables. The vegetables... 10:49 The vegetables and... 10:51 And full grains and legumes. That's right. 10:52 They're coming in as well. Okay. 10:53 Yeah, so, I mean, it was really important. 10:55 We always say it's important because God said it. 10:59 Okay, God said it. 11:00 I think we have a statement 11:01 from our second tier of credibility. 11:04 Our Christian author, Ellen White, 11:06 she talks about also the diet as well. 11:09 So let's go to the screen at this time 11:11 and see what she said about the diet for mankind. 11:13 Okay. Here it is. 11:16 "The grains, fruits, 11:18 and vegetables have all of the nutritive properties 11:23 necessary to make good blood. 11:26 A flesh diet cannot do." 11:29 Counsels on Diet and Foods, page 322. 11:34 Now we're gonna haste in here 'cause time is a factor here. 11:37 And we talked about God's Word. 11:39 Honey, now let's just highlight one area of food 11:43 and it's the carbohydrates. 11:45 So we're gonna talk about this a little bit 11:47 because there's a lot of confusion for some people. 11:49 Not for all of us, for some people 11:51 about the carbohydrates. 11:52 I shouldn't eat any carbs. Carbs are just bad. 11:55 So let's walk them through this. 11:58 And now this is in our workbook here 12:00 but there's more information in the webinar. 12:02 This will give you a tease right now. 12:04 Just walk us through the different types of carbs 12:06 and see what we can do about to straighten this out. 12:09 Well, I think and also to kind of set it up 12:11 and that is the fact that 12:12 many times people come to us are clients 12:14 and they're talking about, "I don't do fruit. 12:17 I don't do starchy foods, 12:18 I don't do potatoes, I don't do rice. 12:20 I don't do bread. I'm off all of that." Okay? 12:23 But when we study about the carbohydrates, 12:25 we discover that the carbohydrates 12:27 are actually the foods 12:28 that keep giving us the energy we need 12:31 to move and have our being. 12:32 Okay. So carbs can't be eliminated. 12:34 So then we actually talk about... 12:36 Let's talk about the carbs 12:37 'cause there's three types of carbohydrates. 12:40 Three, all right? Three, okay. 12:41 The very first one is the simple one. 12:44 Now know when I said simple, 12:45 right away, you started thinking about 12:46 potato chips and cookies and candy. 12:48 No, that is not considered simple. 12:49 The simple carbohydrates are the fruits, 12:52 which God talked about already in the Bible, 12:55 and non-starchy vegetables. 12:56 Oh, see, people don't know about that part, 12:58 just know about the fruit but not the non-starchy, 13:01 that's in the simple category. 13:03 And the reason it's called non-starchy is because 13:05 when you cook those foods, 13:06 they does not give off a thick residue 13:08 like you would if you did your beans 13:10 or something that has a flour or potatoes, 13:13 they give off a starch, all right? 13:14 So now we're talking about things like green beans, 13:16 okay, peas, 13:18 they don't have a starch that comes off of them. 13:20 Okay. They're called the non-starchy. 13:21 Carrots, non-starchy, that's the first one, simple. 13:25 Second one is so important and key also to our body 13:28 is the complex group. 13:30 Complexity, that means that 13:32 if you were to take any of these foods 13:33 and put them under a microscope, 13:35 you would see a lot of webbing 13:37 and exchange is going on there, okay? 13:39 Which means it takes this food, 13:40 then a longer time to get through the body system. 13:42 And these foods will actually include things like 13:44 your whole wheat bread, whole grain, whole grain rice, 13:48 you know, sweet potatoes, okay. 13:50 Legumes, peas. 13:51 Legumes, they're all a part of that complex 13:54 because they stay in a system a longer period of time, okay? 13:58 And so the last one, that's very, very important 14:01 and very, very key to us. 14:02 Well, when I say key, 14:05 let me just straighten that one out. 14:06 Yeah. 14:07 When I say important to us, 14:09 I'm talking about the ones that people just like, 14:11 "I ain't getting off of that, Paula," but anyway. 14:13 Important for us to know but not to eat. 14:16 The refined group, 14:17 refined or processed, or process. 14:20 Now we talk about refined or process. 14:22 We talk about the fact that these are your... 14:26 I'm getting mixed up. 14:27 We were talking now about potato chips 14:29 and cakes and pies and cookies and candy. 14:33 Refined, they say, 14:34 "If it's made from a plant, it's good for you." 14:39 But if it was made in a plant, 14:41 you might want to rethink that one. 14:42 Okay, so let's recap that. All right. 14:44 So, again, number one, 14:47 you got the simple carbohydrates. 14:50 Fruit, non-starchy vegetable. That's right. 14:54 That's one. Yes. 14:56 Second, complex carbohydrates, 15:00 whole grains, legumes, peas, etcetera, all right. 15:03 Then you got the third group, the detrimental kind, 15:06 refined carbohydrates, 15:09 white bread, white rice, 15:13 potato chips, cookies, cakes, 15:14 you know, all that, that's refined carbohydrates. 15:17 A lot of people, 15:18 they put carbohydrates in one boat. 15:21 I'm not eating any carbs at all without making a distinction 15:26 between the three different types. 15:28 You know, I know in our program... 15:29 So we have a conference called Defeating Diabetes, 15:33 and you do that part 15:34 where we have a lot of carbohydrates, 15:37 a lot of foods on the screen, 15:40 about 10 of them, 15:41 and you ask the audience, 15:42 "Okay, how many of these 10 foods 15:44 are carbohydrates?" 15:46 Some people will say, "Oh, six or maybe eight." 15:49 All those foods are carbohydrates. 15:51 I know. 15:52 Cut my oat, the greens and all that 15:54 and carrots and things like that, 15:55 and people may not be aware 15:57 that these are carbohydrates. 15:59 They're absolutely surprised when they see that. 16:00 Number one, they are thinking, 16:02 "Well, I don't think spinach is one. 16:04 Oh, I don't think nuts and..." 16:05 But we do that just to get them going, 16:07 get them start to understand. 16:08 By the time you're done, they understand the simple, 16:12 complex, and the refined, all right? 16:14 Yes, okay. 16:15 Now I think the time to go to kitchen, but again, 16:17 those who want to get more information about this, 16:20 just email us for the webinar at info@AbundantLivingtv.org 16:26 and we'll be doing a webinar that goes more into 16:29 this E for Eating in the near future. 16:31 What about my garden? 16:32 Well, I know the time is of the essence, 16:34 maybe we will put up there. 16:36 Okay, well, I was looking at the time. 16:37 I'll tell you what. 16:39 Let's show the picture of the garden 16:40 and then we'll go in the kitchen. 16:41 I'll talk about it out there. Okay. 16:43 All right, let's go to the screen. 16:44 And this is a project that my wife has. 16:45 So let's go to the screen and look at... 16:47 I said my wife's garden, 16:48 but it's also our garden as well. 16:49 Let's go to the screen at this time. 16:51 You owns the garden. Y'all garden. 16:53 And so that is my garden, and I'm in a special project. 16:58 And so when we go into kitchen, 17:00 we will talk a little bit more about that 17:01 as we're preparing our Angel Hair Tomato Toss. 17:06 Yeah, get your paper and your pencil 17:08 and meet us in the kitchen. |
